what videos have yet to come out? Blessed is the only one coming to mind. Looking forward to see if Tyshawn actually has SOTY material as claimed by few. Baker 4 got pushed back I think.
Personally, I choose Rizzo or Austyn. If it was Thrasher and I only know the frontrunners get chosen, I'd choose Mason.

Can you win SOTY if you’re only am? Rizzo isn’t pro so I’d guess that’s not happening (deserving though—dude kills)
I would guess it’s down to either Mason Silva or Tyshawn Jones based off of skill/hype/sponsors
Austyn and also Glick are on par with them but I don’t think have the right sponsors.
Zion is too corp for Thrasher me thinks—Nyjah/Sheckler status—they need to retain some level of street credibility when choosing a SOTY.

Still got Blessed and TWS Duets coming out. Don't know if Tyshawn is going to be able to pull out one part that will destroy everyone else on the list. I have really been enjoying watching Franky skate this year and he has had a ton of footage. We still have one more Thrasher cover before the skater of the year cover as well.

I only know about it because of Skateline. It's not on youtube, it's for sunglasses and it's probably stuff that didn't cut it for Former but it's still pretty sick.
I think it's Evan Smith because Phelps is in lurv (and he's had great year) but I wish it was Mason because his skating is what got me most hyped and his Peace part is so damn good.

Agreed. I always enjoyed watching Evan in Street League, because he didn’t even make an attempt to win. He was just having fun and using the course in creative ways. His skating on KOTR was also pretty incredible, even though it was hard to root for Element over the other teams this year.

But saying someone doesn't leave the skatepark when they very clearly do isn't an opinion, it's an indisputable falsehood, and getting mad when people point out your bullshit fallacy or resorting to some kind of strawman argument about how "people are SO MAD! that I don't like the skaters they like!" doesn't really bode well for your "I'm more mature than a thirteen-year-old" argument.

Would love to see Tyshawn or Bobby D get it, they both did a ton of amazing stuff. Bobby put out a shit ton of footage this year. Unfortunately though, all of it is not in a single project related to Thrasher. Although, the 2 Cons videos - One Star World Tour and Purple perhaps, but nothing else I could think about really. He did get a cover and an interview issue though. Plus, he mostly only skates ledges and manual pads, so that probably doesn't help either.
Tyshawn's part in Blessed is most likely going to completely reprogram people's brains and change skateboarding forever. Just my guess. Mason Silva's part in Peace is probably the best part this year, but I just feel like Tyshawn's part in Blessed is gonna be that, but times a thousand.
Either way, if you think about it, it's probably Zion who's gonna get it. He's on the full DLX sponsor kit, he's tight with Thrasher, he was on KOTR and he had a bunch of footy and several NBDs too. Sucks for me, but whatever. It's not like I care anymore after Tiago and/or Louie lost it to fucking Jamie Foy of all things.

Evan definitely went above and beyond comparatively. I’m not specifically endorsing him, but he really did crush a lot of the challenges, traditional and not, and showcased a really diverse level of skating that made me respect him over my initial reaction of finding him annoying. I’m interested to see tj’s part in blessed. I don’t doubt how good he is, more just interested to see if this one part is enough to sway me for the year.

Liked Tyshawn's stuff more this year, but feel like Evan has won it for what he did in past years (even though it's skater of THE year, I like the idea of people getting it cause of past skating).

Zion has had a ton of gnarly falls this year but if you're referring to experience he's seems like the youngest of the bunch(him and Tyshawn are around the same age). TJ's parts are mind bending and insane but the dude didn't have a full part of diverse tricks. I feel like Tyshawn is a better version of Luis Tolentino.

I personally back Zion, but Evan probably deserves it more. TJ rips and is an insane talent, but in my humble opinion a skater of the year should be able to kill it on all terrains not just street, (which is the common denominator for the majority of past SOTY's and Zion and Evan). If TJ wins cool, but until I see him rip vert or go hard at FDR, Burnside, or one of the plethora of big parks out there, just can't fully back him. Ishod was sorta in the same place as TJ, but worked on his transition skills and bagged SOTY, so maybe TJ will do the same. I'm not making this call because I'm some insane ATV, making it based on his occupation as a professional skater and the public critique that goes with it. Said as much on Strobeck's insta post on TJ being SOTY and he deleted the comment.....

I think that Joslin is the one that deserve the soty award even if I don't feel his vibe or his sponsors are wack.

Zion won't win for the same reason Sheckler, Nyjah, etc. have never won. Evan and Tyshawn are both such better representations of skating. At the same time I always thought the rock n roll hall of fame was the lamest, least rock n roll thing ever, yet every year I get all riled up over the soty race. Maybe it's appropriate to give a trophy to a guy like Zion. It would be rad if Evan turned it down.

Do you see a bunch of guys do full speed kf wallrides in a run? What about the wallie to a 15 foot drop or the 540 off that bump in France(I think)? Tech + Gnar. I think we will see people catching up to what TJ is doing before they catch Evan. I'm a huge TJ fan but evan is on another planet and he wasn't just on KOTR he did all the nasty shit nobody wanted to do and then out skated everybody.

That's fucked Jake Anderson didn't even make the first cut of finalists on Thrasher.
Zion won't win for the same reason Sheckler, Nyjah, etc. have never won. Evan and Tyshawn are both such better representations of skating. At the same time I always thought the rock n roll hall of fame was the lamest, least rock n roll thing ever, yet every year I get all riled up over the soty race. Maybe it's appropriate to give a trophy to a guy like Zion. It would be rad if Evan turned it down.

This is were we go back to last year when Foy won over Louie. Louie has BEEN pro. already has miles of parts from when he was a little grom in extremely sorry up to the volcom stuff. Grew up with Arto, Geoff, and Appleyard, who almost got back to back to back SOTYs. He was the obvious choice as far as true skate representation and Foy, obviously gnarly, literally turned pro months before getting SOTY.
Imagine if bastien got SOTY over Arto for the sorry video, how disgusting that would have been...

Evan's one of the best to ever do it. TJ is an incredible athlete, king of pop and NYC fasho. But Evan is doing so much more on the board. Destroying any spot anywhere on the planet. Wallrides w flips, legit rails (w/flips), fast lines on complicated architecture, gnarly big gaps and drops, tranny, creative shit, and tech shit.
