This is info I never knew I wanted to see. Props on this. Also, surprised neither did a switch tre at all.
I feel like this can be a section at Jenkemmag. You plan on doing any other skaters?

Yes I considered adding, but Appleyard's Digital part had a bit too much b-roll so I left it out to keep it even at 5 vids each.

good work captain duck

I did a breakdown of Menikmati awhile back.

This nerd shit warms the cockles of my cock.
Great stuff!

These are fun! Wild that they did nearly the same amount of tricks.
Was it you who did this with Fully Flared or someone else?

This is too rad, Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much Gideon 🙏

I did Menikmati, see posts above with the infographic on that one. I also did a quick breakdown (no graphic) Steve Williams The Reason
The stereotype is that Asians are good in math, well that's actually true for me as well.
I was re-watching Stevie's Transworld part in The Reason, obviously well-noted for his long lines and mostly filmed at Love Park. But this time around I couldn't help but dig a bit deeper and pull same interesting data from the video part. I had fun doing this and might make this a regular thing. Anyways, Stevie Williams part in The Reason:
- Time duration of part = 4m 34s
- Actual skating from Stevie = 2m 10s or 48% of total part
- Rest of video part (intro, Kevin Taylor & Josh Kalis) = 2m 20s or 52%
- Stevie's first line = 40s long or 31% of his skating or 15% of the total video part
- Stevie's total video clips filmed = 14
- 11 clips filmed @ LOVE / 2 clips @ The Pier / 1 clip @ Brooklyn Banks

Brilliant, Gideon Choi
Really good work.
These are top-tier infographics. Have you ever worked with any publishers? Sorry if you have stated before.
-
These are great. If things go the way they could I'll pick up a copy of your book at urban outfitters in ca. 2 years

I have not, I just do this as a hobby in my spare time and I really enjoy working in Excel. I started this one about 3 months ago and worked on it bit by bit. The idea with this one kickstarted when I noticed how few lines Appleyard films, and it went from there. I don't even remember why I added Janoski data so the fact they almost filmed the same about of tricks (238 vs. 237) tripped me out when I started working the numbers.

no worries! cool idea anyway- also loved the menikmati one

Appleyard had a part in photosinthesis.

Yeah looking back I should have added that one and Janoski's Alone part. But five is nice cleaner number haha
-
I’m impressed. Would gnar you if I could.
-
This is rad. Most commonly done/favorite tricks would be an interesting tidbit to add, like how many times janoski tre-flipped, switch flipped, or nollie frontside flipped, or how many times appleyard nollie heeled or nollie flipped into something, stuff like that.
-
yeah but how do you feel?
-
This is rad.
Gideon, have you ever used PowerBI? They've got me learning it at work and it's pretty rad.
-

I did the Fully Flared one forever ago. http://youwillsoon.blogspot.com/2008/04/fully-flared-statistical-analysis.html
After it came out even though it was shitting on Fully Flared, Kelly Bird posted on the Lakai site that he was looking to talk to the person who did it. I hit him up and did a modified version that was strictly numbers, no opinion and it made it into the Final Flare boxset book. For my contribution I got two pairs of Caroll Selects, as well as a pair of Lakai slippers, and eight Lakai shirts that I never wore.
Good stuff Gideon, I really like it.

I've looked into that one, but we use Tableau at my work. I'd viz the data through there but it's the company's license.

Whoa I've never seen this but it's awesome. Once you start you have to finish the work. That's cool you got product out of it. I've wanted to do one for Yeah Right as I feel like that video over-indexes with the amount of manny tricks in it.
-
These are great, Gideon (and Watson).
I'd buy a zine or book should you ever feel inclined to put something together. The format suits my attention span perfectly.
-
This is some of the most beautiful shit I ever witnessed. Gnar'd

But still interesting.
-
Woah, these are awesome man, great job.
I’m going to try and think up some other good ones. Maybe something with Welcome to Hell or Photosynthesis?
-
have you ever used PowerBI
Gimme your password I got a joke but it only works from your account
-
Great stuff. looking forward to seeing more
-
Nice, do something Mindfield related.
-
can you do a breakdown of all jerry hsu's parts and work out if he skates more regular or switch
-
The sheer nerdery. I luv it.
-
Consider a parallel universe where stefan rides for globe and element, and apples rides for nike and habitat. yeah weird..
Great job Gideon, tell me you counted apples' hippie swerve over the pole as a trick in a line, that shit is classic
-
I really hope you’re the Gideon Choi. My illegally downloaded kaZaa version of Round 2 ended right when you kickflipped up that three if so.
Remember when you did front blunt varial flip? That was awesome.
-
Gideon Choi, you are a god amongst men
-
This is rad.
Gideon, have you ever used PowerBI? They've got me learning it at work and it's pretty rad.
I too use PowerBI. That is all.
-
YES! This is rad!
I've got a bunch of similar things half made.. I actually made this account with the intent of finally finishing them off and having somewhere to put them. Better get to it asap before its all obsolete ;)
feeling inspired.
and yeah. keep making more!
-
Thanks Gideon!
-
Cant understand why Appleyard didnt put this ss 360 flip in his Extremely Sorry part.
https://youtu.be/iTKiQQkj9AA
-
best thread in a while. this is the autism slap needs
-
Another interesting parallel: both of these dudes found well-deserved financial success, but their skating suffered as a result of it.
Good work, Gideon.

Im guessing he didnt like the landing cause it was kinda stiff but I liked it.

Good work, Gideon.
I see what you're saying but both Mark and Stefan put out at least 5 solid video parts in almost 10 years which is a solid pro career so they're dip in footage and output is okay by me. Much better than the Baker formula for most of their riders which is go big, sell products, get addicted to something, skating suffers, get sober. Rinse & repeat.
-
Appreciate all the props from you Slap Pals
If you have any other ideas for skateboarding data analysis, shoot them my way.

I love this kind of shit. I'd gnar you twice if i could.

PowerBI? There’s a gay joke in there somewhere.

"This can most likely be attributed to the fact that Jeff Lenoce blows dong.." made me laugh
All of these stat are interesting and I'd like to see more

I've since changed my mind about Lenoce. Sorry Lenoce.

-
really dope

this would make for amazing coffee table/back of toilet book. i would be curious to also see how pros stack up against themselves in video parts over the years (compare the content of two parts equal in length X amount of years apart)
