Then again, Israel and Northern Ireland have segregation walls and they seem to work for them. I think the environmental issues would be the real tragedy, animals that have dual citizenship would be trapped on one side or the other.

I’m from Northern Ireland. It wasn’t a solid boarder wall. It was British army check points along the boarder you had to go through when entering the south from the north and vice versa.
The soldiers at these posts were shot or blown up constantly for 30 years. They are all gone now and things work just fine.
Point is that a wall will not stop people. They will just get more creative ways to bypass it. Hopefully not with car bombs like here.

That doesn't mean that a majority of the country doesn't want border security, just that this is a shitty way to do it. The $5B is only a small percentage of what is needed to complete it. Estimates seem to be that it will be $25B, but I have seen $70B. Maintenance costs could be $500M a year.

This whole border wall government shutdown is fucking theater. The walls are closing in on this crooked ass administration and there aren't many half intelligent people left in Trump's orbit. All of this is a distraction and a pointless gesture for the benefit of his increasingly shrinking base. Everybody who actually cares about accurate information already knows that a wall is a waste of money and time.
Anyway, I'm hungry and my food stamps are about to run out so maybe I'm just cranky.

Somebody saw Sicario 2...
I heard this woman on the radio on my way to work this morning saying the shutdown had been exceptionally difficult on her because she owned 10 rental properties that she rented to poor people because the government gave her X amount of dollars to make up for it but now she is falling behind on her ten extra mortgage payments. I just thought about how her tenants should eat her.
