-
pretty sure he has had some really really serious injuries the last few years, and as recent as 12 months ago. my guess he is injured really badly again. probably his time to retire.
put out your pabst for gravette, boys.
**moment of silence**

Yea he seems to be pretty fucking over dramatic even when hes healthy. Sucks if he is done, although it wouldn't surprise me since he always slammed hard.
-
My guess is that he was forced to skate Andy Mac's skater cross again. Jokes aside, I've always loved Gravette's skating. I hope he's just being overdramatic
-
Pretty deep for a carcass tosser. +1, mister Gravette.
-
His hip has popped out of place several times now. I was imagine this is a reiteration of that. That seems to be what he's been complaining about with the whole #captaindislocate campaign he's been on.
-
I got bloody like that trying a wallride for over an hour and I don't think I posted about it shalom
-
A bright light in the dark tunnel that was skateboarding my freshman year of high school. Everyone was wearing that pac man all over print tk kr3w hoodie and tight pants with huge shirts. Then I got black and blue volume one and learned back 3 no complies. A tip of the hat to you my good sir

I lied in my previous post
-
Damn he’s my second favorite skater of all time and was really hoping he was gonna come back after his most recent hip surgery.
Blood and dislocation seem like a bad combo though.
he had enough for three parts for the last creature vid and that was during all this dislocation madness. Sigh, this is depressing, it seemed like he was just getting his groove back with his recent insta clips.
-
hopefully ty evans was there to film him laying on the ground in HD
-
"one injury to the next, man!"
-
That guy is tough as nails and has abused his body into disrepair. His hip injury(s) sound like hell on earth. Respect to him.
-
hopefully ty evans was there to film him laying on the ground in HD
Thank you for my new signature.
-
His hip has been bad for most of his career but i think the last year or so he could barely skate. All that blood from a hip dislocation (presumably) does nit sound good at all
-
Gravette is such a rad dude and a great skater and really entertaining too. It's a major bummer he hasn't got his dislocating hip sorted. I'd really like to see him get it fixed for good even if he never came out with any more footage. I just want the guy enjoying himself without constant worry about dislocating his hip. :-\

He was doing his signature scorpion fall to avoid slamming on his hips all the way back when And Now came out. I am surprised he has lasted this long. Love his skating and hope he can recover. He may be dramatic but nobody has gone harder on KOTR.
-
My favorite Gravette-fact™ is him denying Jordan Hoffart his imaginary-skater-of-the-day-award out of spite when they were on a tour together
-
Saw him last weekend killing burnside, super bummed he’s hurt, sending positive vibes
-
David has had hip problems since before he was 17 and several surgeries to try and fix it, hope he can bounce back. He’s the scorpion king
https://youtu.be/YVHzERjk90c
-
Hopefully he's feeling better soon , I always liked him.
-
Damn, sad to hear this. He's one of my favorites. Tough to keep a skateboarding career going when your hip doesn't function.
-
Here's yet another example of a skateboarder becoming irreverent and not realizing it.

Gravette has always been irreverent that’s why he is awesome

;D ;D ;D ;D. Made my night. Cheers.
-
Gravette is the fucking man. My eyes were opened very wide the first time I seen and now. Also i would put gravette very high on a list of most influential skaters from the era. He paved the way for all these fucked up 5050 grinds. And he did a fuckin backflip

Blew my mind when I first saw that
-
It's crazy what people put on a the line for skating. Once your hip goes you're pretty fucked. They won't do hip replacements usually until your later stages in life because they only last a short time and you're fucked if you break the replacement.
If I was Gravette, Dollin or similar I would of peaced on skating long ago and taken up bush walking or something a bit more chill where you'll actually be able to walk into your 50s.
Skating is cool but not this cool

I'm not trying to be a dick, schralp pal, but the image of going up someone and telling them, "Yo, you're my second favorite skater!" and they're like, "Oh sweet."

Dude, I had the black version of said hoodie my freshman year. Call me a kook but that hoodie was sick as fuck! 2006 w was a great time in skating, the golden era imo. I got bag of suck with that hoodie as well for my birthday from stratosphere skatshop, GTs dads shop.

There was a kid we would skate with who got the black and gold one. He wore it to school with us once and they were banned the next day. I'm very grateful that happened as I'm sure we all would have gotten one too.

Captain dislocate has less followers. You know how that goes...
-
Hip dislocation sounds just horrible. Crazy how much shit some people can go through and come back killing it. I've never had anything more serious than ankle sprains but even those have always left me scared to do much for months. Having to worry about my hip dislocating would probably make me only do stationary flatground.
Hopefully Gravette can make a comeback, been one of my favorite skaters since and now

Well that’s why I told you guys - my only skateboarding friends.
To be honest leo Romero and gravette flip flop for my number one spot sometimes. So if I ever met David I would tell him he’s my favorite and I’d only be half lying. I’d also tell him he had one of
My favorite graphics - 2 otters passing a joint.
-
Best wishes to Gravette. The dude rips. Him and the Duffman seem to be the most plagued by injuries. Any other names that one of the first things you think of is broke-off? Delfino maybe?
-
He’s grinding the never ending rail.
-
So sad to see. Gravette has always been a favorite of mine ever since I read his Skate Anatomy article in the November 2007 issue of Skateboarder. His body was already wrecked back then, over 10 years ago.

Jerry Hsu in bag of suck, nick trapasso in suffer the joy, Jon Allie in it’s time, and let’s not forget Dylan Rieder in a time to shine. Sounds pretty golden to me. His ‘And Now’ part will go down as one of the best TWS parts of all time, despite Chris Ray
-
Dude's an amazing skater that deserves his due. Core as fuck, buck as fuck and destroyed his body for the shred gods. David brought huge light to the PacNW skate scene and will go down in history. The guy warmed up on a 12 foot vert wall then went and found the biggest rails. Hopefully the dude can get a sick job in a dispensary or something that makes him happy. So bummed to see him get chopped when he could've had another few parts despite the injuries. Nyjah, give this dude you're Lululemon ache gun thing and some of those Nike painkillers!!!
-
My friends and I watched him break his arm once while we were skating Ed Benedict park in Oregon. He was cruising around for an hour or so before attempting to take a long nose manual across the park and down a 7 when he fell forward and landed with his weight on his arm. He actually walked right up to me and yelled out “I can’t believe I just broke my fucking arm on that!”
Definitely a drag to have to put your career on hold for any duration of time as a result of basically dicking around at a local park. I felt for him.
-
dudes always hurt but it doesnt seem to stop him like it would stop nost mortals.
he was at the CPHPRO a few years ago wth his arm in a sling and still managed to jump a kicker gap over a stripper cake on a mountain bike haha

There is no 7 stair at Eggs Benedict park! Only the big block 3, long three, and the 5 stair with the rail and hubbas.

My bad. You know how you may refer to a tissue as a Kleenex or a cotton swab as a Q-Tip? I refer to medium sized sets of stairs at skateparks as 7 stairs.
You know which one I’m talking about though? The landing is over the by strange mini ramp.

Most don't think of 2006 AKA "the era of bad fits" as a golden time in skateboarding but claiming Gravette "pulled us out of the dark ages" when he came up at the same time as Jake Johnson, GT, Brandon Westgate, Wes Kremer, Alex Olson, etc is some next-level revisionist history. So, y'all are both wrong, but feel free to keep arguing.

I know a really good older vert guy who had skated 30+ years and quit cold turkey after breaking his hip. The injury put him in a hospital bed for a good while and I believe his thinking was something along the lines of "I'd like to be able to walk for my next 40 years on this planet."
The older I get the less crazy that sounds.

I love the older transworld, habitat, alien, and eastern exposure stuff but that was a little before my time so I couldn’t relate to it as much. I think the singular thrasher part/instagram era we are in now as far weirder but maybe I’m a little biased.

a lot of videos from 2004 are horribly dated and don't have any shelf life. the videos before that are a different story.

I love how people on slap like to make a point without providing any examples or context. For one, do yourself a favor and order bag of suck. That video is the shit. Start to finish. I think That’s Life came out in 2004, another good one. I just want to know what you are referring to.

you want me to give you examples of completely banal and forgettable skate videos from that era? i literally don't remember. hence the post.
of course some gold escaped, but there is a lot of shit. so much of the skating and filming is so unimaginative.
also when i say from 2004, i'm talking 2004 onwards.

If you’re going to make a bold statement, have some evidence to back it up. Use all the pretentious adjectives you want, still sounds to me like you don’t know what you are talking about. I’ve got dvds for days from that time period that would get you siked. Unless you’re some Ricky Oyola type purist that shuts down anything that’s not raw street skating to slow jazz and in that case, good day to you sir.

Those digital videos were early 2000s so your still proving to be out of touch with the period I’m referring to. I’ve lived on the east coast my whole life, love that shit. Was just making a point that you sound like one of those bitter Ricky Oyola types. Guess that’s most of the people on here though so I guess I should get used to it. Thanks for the more in depth reply though, the white tee/cords comment had me rolling hahahaha Is this a gipper 2.0 account?

A bright light in the dark tunnel that was skateboarding my freshman year of high school. Everyone was wearing that pac man all over print tk kr3w hoodie and tight pants with huge shirts. Then I got black and blue volume one and learned back 3 no complies. A tip of the hat to you my good sir
Yeah, Thomas probably called you a kook right after you walked out the door. 2006 was not a golden time in skating dude. 2003, 4, maybe, but 6? That's gonna be a no from me dawg
Jerry Hsu in bag of suck, nick trapasso in suffer the joy, Jon Allie in it’s time, and let’s not forget Dylan Rieder in a time to shine. Sounds pretty golden to me. Plus, I said era you dumbass so I’m pretty sure two years before would count towards my point. By the way Thomas was cool as fuck and gave me a poster of Grants welcome to alien ad of him grinding the 18 stair at Mercer college in Atlanta. Don’t go poking your nose where it don’t belong, I live for this shit. Shalom
You have 5 posts and you're trying to shalom me? I like jerry bos but none of those other parts had a lasting effect on me. I don't really care about mid 2000s stair and handrail skating. Like I said, I felt like gravette helped pull us out of a dark era. That kr3w jacket was terrible, you're misguided but I forgive you
When in Rome dude.....I may have 5 posts but I’ve been on this site for years and skateboarding my whole life so don’t try and cool guy me. You all bringing up peoples post count is equivalent to Ritchie Jackson bringing up his number of followers. if you think those were the dark ages than you are as dumb as you sound. Go find some other newbie to pick on because I’m not the one.
Never said dark ages like it was some ancient history or anything, just saying 2004-2009 was pretty weird. Gear and music was pretty goofy
I agree with 2004-2009 being weird

I started skating in 06 so I will always have a soft spot for that era. Looking back I agree that things were kinda off. If I am not mistaken this was around the time shoes started to slim down? Which was a big deal in my middle school. Sooo many great videos came out around that time, it seems like those were the last days of having decent music for parts.

Sans a few parts, That's Life is horribly dated. The mid-2000s were my formative years, as well, but for every Bag of Suck or Lost and Found, there are three Digital videos, a Jereme Rogers' Neighborhood, and an Elementality floating around. That's not to say cool stuff didn't happen, but I wouldn't say the period was defined by the cool stuff that was happening as much as a lot of the mediocrity we saw.

It just doesn't compare to 00-03, which saw the release of:
Photosynthesis
Sorry
Sight Unseen
Yeah Right
Mosaic
PJ Ladd's Wonderful Horrible Life
Baker 2G
This is Skateboarding
Man Down
Menikmati
Dying to Live
Bon Appetit
Cash Money Vagrant
The DC Video
7 Year Glitch
Real to Reel
That list is stacked. Of course 04-09 has good stuff too (Mind Field,Fully Flared,Static 3,Bag of Suck, etc) but I just think it was a step back from the previous few years.

Never said dark ages like it was some ancient history or anything, just saying 2004-2009 was pretty weird. Gear and music was pretty goofy
I agree with 2004-2009 being weird
So what do you all prefer? I feel like you all are probably close in age to me so I’m interested. I agree with the gear being a bit strange but the videos that came out of that era are my favorite. Can’t beat that late vx footage on dvd format with random bonus features and tour footage. I love the older transworld, habitat, alien, and eastern exposure stuff but that was a little before my time so I couldn’t relate to it as much. I think the singular thrasher part/instagram era we are in now as far weirder but maybe I’m a little biased.
I started skating in 06 so I will always have a soft spot for that era. Looking back I agree that things were kinda off. If I am not mistaken this was around the time shoes started to slim down? Which was a big deal in my middle school. Sooo many great videos came out around that time, it seems like those were the last days of having decent music for parts.
yeah man, we need more the delgados, peter bjorn & john, the organ & thao & the get down stay down in 2019
I refuse to hear any blasphemy against this masterpiece.

great part. fun fact - between his lost & found, make friends, palasonic, full flared, lotties part he has over 250 tricks, not a single switch flip trick, in fact all 4 of his sw tricks involved a sw fs 180. the more you know. also i dont recall a single 360 flip either

Oh come on. You all know the only wack era of skateboarding is the early 90s. Big pants, small wheels, and lame ledge combos. I'll happily watch any era except that trash. Freestyle primos is better than that. After 99 every year got better, and continues to get better. Today is always the best time for skating.

I thought he couldn't skate switch for years until I saw him doing a switch crooks on Daniel Wheatley's instagram, now I feel like my whole life is a lie. I knew I had seen him do a 360 flip, though, so I went on the hunt and it's in a line with a nollie 180, one of the only nollie tricks I've ever seen him do. 15:50:

So many triggered tough guys on Slap these days. Mickey Knox and contrarian are either the same person or closet wannabe lesbian lovers.
