Who cares.

He's got a bit of a Michael Cera thing going on in the middle of his face, doesn't he?
-
First to ever quit Palace???
-
I'm going to lose a lot of sleep over this divorce.
-
Please don't go to isle. I love isle.
-
Maybe he's starting his own thing or something. Makes very little sense to quit Palace. It has to be one of the best board sponsors you can have right now.
-

tend to agree, interesting move to bail. must've have something else locked in no? or maybe dude has such much going on outside skate he doesn't need it. still, would be like if say nak left FA. wonder what's next...
-
could see him on krooked
-
Has his own brand taken of enough for him to even try anything on it himself board wise? It wouldn’t surprise me if he just made boards and was the only pro/rider on his own team.
-
My money is on him making his own board company
-

I'm just wondering, was Blondey ever turned Pro by Palace? If not, it would be pretty funny/kookish to have your own brand with you as the only pro. Only recent case of that was Sinner.
-
Of Palace, on dentistry?
-
Opens a spot for Chico??

Full time fashionista?

full time barista?
-
I hear him and Kate Moss are gonna break off and start their own board brand
-
Never heard of him so you know what? Good, I'm glad he got the boot

Yeah I don't recall ever seeing his actual name on a board but maybe he had some pro graphics? Powers (can't recall his name on a board either) and him get so much hate but their styles are so dissimilar seems haters gonna hate. I'm down with long lines and charging Palace and Bronze 56K all day. Interested to see what he does next.

I doubt he'll go and ride for anyone. He's basically an IT girl now and can do whatever he likes and there will be people into it.
-
Most prominent am to board company association to never go pro?
-
Possibly thames boards but I don't reckon..
He doesn't need Palace anymore I figure..

from london here. not a fan of blondey at all. that said hes a nice guy, very mature for his age, and despite lack of footage is actually pretty amazing on the board.
he has a seperate fashion brand , not thames just titled blondey, which is sold at selfridges. must be doing alright cus that place is full of the rich and famous

Don't know what this means?
What I mean is that Palace videos are some of the best skate videos of the last 5 years and they documented/interpreted Blondey in an interesting way, but whatever he does next, it's not going to be like Palace, that's for sure.
Also, dude is filthy rich and does not need to make $ from them so kind of a weird departure...?

Part time skate tourist Thomas goes in search of new edgy subculture to appropriate.
-
thames is on the backburner. he won't be riding for anyone else. i've also heard that he is turned down a board on palace twice now. there's obviously more to this departure.
pretty good recent interview with him - https://www.ssense.com/en-us/editorial/fashion/blondey-mccoy-with-the-thorn-in-his-side
on a side note, funny how palace didn't add anybody for over 5 years, and no one really noticed. you know they are doing shit right.

They went awhile without adding anyone to to the team. Did they add anyone between Danny Brady in like 2012 and Lucas in 2017? All I can think of is giving Rory the bump up to pro, and maybe putting Poptart Pete and Blondey fully on.
-
Blondey sucks and I haven’t even seen palace merch in the wild in years let alone a board. They have a billboard for an LA pop up right now that reminded me they even exist still. They do dope videos but do they even sell boards anymore? Is it still huge with hype beasts?

Check his post before the leaving Palace one. It seems he realizes that his focus is shifting from being a skateboarder to something else. He seems really interested in more Art and Fashion kind of things. Good for him for pursuing what he cares about instead of "falling off".

sounds weird -- he would hardly be the first skater to have trademarked their name(or in this case, stage name).
is the implication that Palace refuses to promote him or his name? or that Blondey was trying to get them to pay a licensing fee for usage of his name? either one sounds equally braindead.

If he is doing his fashion/apparel thing I guess it makes sense to split with Palace which is basically an apparel brand also, I assume that is where 90% of their revenue is from.

I’m sure it’s been covered ad nauseam, however Anyone kicking about with a fucking ‘stage name’ needs to have a word.
His lust for associating/aligning with working class culture is jarring and painfully transparent.
He makes surface level art. Toe deep observations that only early twenty somethings that have endured no real strife can think important.
Ultimately he’s searching for his forever identity in the public eye, not enviable.
Lev knows good skateboarding he was given a great opportunity and has prospered. A great impossible and a fantastic back three are tools to get you some where in the twenty teens.

Just to clarify, In Britain the appropriation of working class is less fashion based and more affectations.
E.G gold teeth, many rings, the romanticising of comfort food cheap food and or drinking cups of tea, speaking to the man on the street, calling women love, knowing and using people’s first name an unconfortable amount, hinting at but never taking part in violence or petty crime.
Cutting about in a cardigan and a pair of gym shorts is his own try hard thing.

If he left Palace for skating purposes it's really weird. I don't really see his shit selling as a lot of it is still there when the sales arrive so I doubt a board company would float. He has a big following but they aren't skateboarders.
My guess he's just focused on modelling and art shit which makes me question: did he leave palace or did palace leave him?

It didn't bother me, but I was like 5 or 6 and I was pretty tripped out that I had no idea what my actual first name was. I go by whatever now, I don't care what anyone calls me. The guy who works at the liquor store thinks my name is Colin and I think of him as a friend of mine.

"i no longer represent Palace Skateboards" is a super weird way to put it.
Weird like being educated at a $50k a year school and pretending you're a chav named 'blondie'...
yep, rich kid that made his money from working class culture.
what does this even mean?
Working class is like when you wear Dickies and Carhartt and in reality have never worked doing manual labor.
But have you heard about being core?
i've always found a little weird comparison between skaters who'll slate people for wearing skate shit and not skating yet wear work pants, overalls etc but have never been on site or done manual labor etc. or maybe im just reaching just seems kinda funny to me.
on the subject of blondie, was he considered pro for palace? i don't recall any pro board aside from some thames collab. regardless hes probably got something in the works as jumping ship from Palace is an odd move, thames boards? or maybe his influence in the hypebeast fashion edgelord world is bigger than we think and he's making a killing off tshirts and rings.
What kind of grown man wears rings, aside from maybe a simple wedding band?
I wear rings, whassup?
If he left Palace for skating purposes it's really weird. I don't really see his shit selling as a lot of it is still there when the sales arrive so I doubt a board company would float. He has a big following but they aren't skateboarders.
My guess he's just focused on modelling and art shit which makes me question: did he leave palace or did palace leave him?
I guess rings can be cool if you won a major sporting title or something. Other than that, I have just never been much of jewelry guy. Don't often wear a watch and forget my wedding band half the time. To each their own though.
-
i use to work with a bunch of dudes who wore thumb rings. heinous.
-
Thames is half owned by the Palace guys (Gareth Lloyd Skewis, Levent James Tanju - GSLT), with the other half being Thomas Elben Hage AKA Blondey McCoy . GSLT holdings is the overall owner of the Palace brand. https://blondey.com/pages/blondey-club So i guess he`s put Thames to bed to pursue his trademarked Blondey label.
-
Well shit, then I'm bout to trademark the name "Thomas Elben Hage" and release a line of affordable, tacky dress clothes.
Your move, Blondey.

I just feel like if he’s trying this “working class” thing rings wouldn’t be worn. I work in a machine shop as a machinist. No one wears more than a wedding band and most guys take them off or have silicone ones. Because if you’re ring gets caught on anything you can easily get your finger taken off. It’s uncommon for most working class to wear a lot of jewelry. Because it’s dangerous to have on for most “working class” industry jobs.
Long hair is also rare to see. Dudes have beards but no Zz top looking shit that can get caught in something and get you pulled in to a machine.

People hit up palace all the time to ride for the company and they say no all the time. Lev Tanju talks about his favorite pros of all time hitting him up and him saying no.
"I don’t wanna give some kid boards and for him to think ‘maybe one day I’ll ride for Palace?’ When to be honest with you, you probably won’t unless like you live near London and you’re fucking hilarious and I love you. You know what I mean? If I don’t wanna hang out with you and all the skaters don’t wanna hang out with you, it’s never happening."
This is a quote from Lev from Free Skate Mag. Then in that Palace mag they kind of alluded to Miles asking to be on the team and them not wanting him.

I recall we were discussing if he was a chav sometime back on the forum, but I didn't know the extent of what can make him cringeworthy (i.e. what you've raised here). But to me at least he's fun to watch skate, his Reebok Loop footage is the first I saw of him and I was real hyped on it. His spelling and grammar are also excellent.

Heitor Da Silva got on because they saw his name on an order he placed, asked if he was getting any boards, and then refunded his order and put him on the team.

Blondey is still salty about how he entered the UK fashion game with the skate focus only to find that there were a dozen other brands using lo-fi grainy VHS skate footage to advertise their clothes
I know personally that he's invested a ton of money into marketing/fashion agencies to try to get his brands afloat, but there's only so much dad's money can buy (it's not style or originality)
as someone else said here, the dude had a decent back 3 and impossible, would have been enough to get him far along in the UK skate scene
watch the rest of his projects pay their way onto high snobiety features for the foreseeable future - he's an absolute joke outside of pay to play media

Bummer, I like Blondey and Palace fucking rules.
I have a feeling I’ll like Blondey a lot less now though...
Learn the (unwritten) rules
Wonder if he'll go the way of AO and make a board company with a fake female french name like Haagen Daz or Leticia Sitonmyface
unwritten rules as in why can't people just accept "of" for what it is and stop asking why its not off....

He wasn't good enough to be on one of the most popular board brands. I think he's doing the right thing by sticking to modeling and fashion. He's not getting another board sponsor.
Youre pretty wrong. Palace wished Rodrigo Tx on the team, but he said no because he supposed Miles Silvas on the team too. Palace team manager said Miles level was too high for Palace.
Definitely calling bullshit on this
People hit up palace all the time to ride for the company and they say no all the time.
Here's a link to that Free skate mag interview, it's actually a good read: https://www.freeskatemag.com/2018/02/22/palace-skateboards-lev-tanju-interviewed/
Lucas is on the team because everyone on the team likes him. Palace chooses people it's not the other way around. If they don't think you're funny or want to hang out with you, you'll never get on the team. The guy Lev says it pretty much all the time. He makes fun of people in their catalogs for asking to ride for them and stuff.
Seriously for dudes who nerd out on skateboarding all the time, I feel like lots of you don't really get it.
in a recent interview alex olson said that dill reached out to palace when he left workshop to try to ride for them and they wouldnt go for it.

Doubt it. They only put on people they like and are homies with. I can't think of any connection AO would have to the team outside of briefly being on Lakai with Danny Brady and Lucas (and Lucas got on way after AO started 917).
Here's how Lev summed it up.

I couldn’t even finish the Palasonic video when it came out because the soundtrack was so wack. The musics almost as bad as that Life Extension video.

I understand that it’s all subjective but I just wanted to talk some shit.
Andrew Reynolds skating to Jimi Hendrix Or Van Morison . AVE skating to the Stooges, the Adolescents and Nugent. Gerwer skating to ODB. Kalis skating to Like Woah. Drehobl in Free your Mind. Kirchart in Sight Unseen skating to Moody Blues.
All of those parts are epic and it seems like all of those dudes picked their own songs. A good song makes the part more memorable.

how the fuck is an ltj bukem tune the british equivalent of 90s hip hop? uk had plenty of rappers in the from the early to late 90s (london posse, demon boyz, roots manuva, tricky, hijack, task force, jehst, braintax, skinnyman etc) and its a reach to say jungle tunes are the uk version of hip hop when the uk had multiple scenes breaking out at the time.
that tune (ltj bukem - atlantis) is somewhat of a classic uk tune and a staple of club/underground culture hence why theyve been used in palace vids, same with palasonic that had a few classics like gabriel by roy davis, valley of the shadows by origin unknown, killer by adamski etc.
yeah its subjective but a uk brand rooted in skateboarding culture with uk riders using uk tunes, who'd have thought it

lol, there's no parity between US and UK hip hop in the 90s
from a nostalgic/cultural point of view, 90s UK jungle/grime is the same to 90s US hip hop in how it's used in skate vids
amazing, you know all the songs from the palasonic vid, Im sure it's very impressive in person

Alright I guess that makes sense, I know nothing about 90s UK club culture or their techno music scene . Sorry but a 90s club themed skate video? Why?. I can imagine Sinner defending the LE soundtrack like “this is actually a classic from the American Dubstep Rave scene.” Shalom.

I really respect Palace and their whole thing in terms of doing skating their way, for the most part. But I do think the biting of 90s American urban culture lacks a bit when you have very soft people like a millionaire's bratty kid on your team. So I I say good riddance to Blondey.

Dill claimed to backside flip El Toro in some Thrasher interview, but turns out it wasn’t a make. Fairfax stomped it but didn’t really roll away. I believe AO even has some attempts posted on The Berrics somewhere.

I doubt his family is as rich as Vinny Ponte's and I don't think that hurt Zoo York's rep.
