I was always a fan but I've literally been listening to nothing but Ramones live shows over the past few weeks or maybe even months. Some YouTube channels like Slender 100 have dozens of them. The evolution of their playing style and performances over time is fascinating to study, especially because it's tempting to draw parallels with all the stress the group as a whole was going through from just being around one another yet still having to make it work. I love catching the occasional fuck-ups in chord or song progressions, there's quite a few instances of them fucking up and occasionally aborting songs live, which takes a heavier meaning when you know they used to punch each other after sets over one bad chord.
Also recently I ran into a live version of Blitzkrieg Bop sang by Dee Dee that was recorded pretty late, and was in disbelief when I realized how he actually didn't know the words to the song at all, despite so many years of playing it live with The Ramones.
-
I've found The Ramones "It's Alive" album on vinyl a few months ago and was super hyped about it. They've got so many good recorded shows.

here's one of my favs. Not their best live performance (Tony or maybe Geezer said they hadn't played together for a few months before this gig), but it's still kickass and has a few moments I always geek about.

I definitely wish he was singing at this time. I don’t think he would have cared about me stage diving and having a good time.

Before prison GG was the king of the underground.
After prison he was trying to be mainstream. I fucking hate talk shows
-
I've seen earl sweatshirt twice and he was great both times.
I was lucky enough to see frank ocean do a few songs at an OF concert.
Queens of the stone age did a good job but the venue sound system didn't do them justice.
Overall the best shows are local acts in small venues. Gotta hunt a bit and sit through some mediocre shit, but the diamonds in the rough are worth it.

I unironically think Sha Na Na's performance at Woodstock was great and some of the reactions from the audience are hilarious.
They performed despite their style being a trend of the past and no longer in with the new hippie crowd. Jimi Hendrix was the one who got Sha Na Na invited to Woodstock and can be seen watching them in this first video(1:15).

Really ? I didn’t know that . I knew he wasn’t from London . I know the Pogues for a lot of shit for singin Irish songs . It’s been years since I’ve done some history on them . About 7 years ago I took an art history class and the teacher talked about the rum , sodomy and the lash art but of course the original artist . I regret not saying “ hey I know that “ because of the Pogues cover .

Prolly not. Yah I remember her ripping the pic up. Prince whooped her ass one time, that's pretty cray, what a dick. I personally don't think she's ever done too much wrong. Her vocal styles are massively influenced by Siouxsie imo. pretty obviously. And that Cocteau twins singer. Who knows tho. I liked her 1st 2 records enough. Emporors new clothes is a really good song i thought., such a rythim.

^holy shit!! Shanes a scot, i dunno if thats commonly known.
Irish band but shane is from scotland. Bon Scott is from Scotland too, im not jus saying that. I haven't even listened to the pougues yet. I only know Dirty Old Town, but I love that. My bloody valentine is scotish and Ned atomic Dustbin, oh yah Simply Red.

He thought he owned her cause of the song. Invited her over to the house to indoctrinate her as a christian and told her to stop cursing in public (b4 the pope thing she had cursed apparently) she told Prince to fuck himself so he chased her around a car beating the shit out of her. All bad.

Thats her account and shes gotten press for being in delusional states. But im pretty much believing it. Being a woman in the 80s would be hard, still weird prolly. Id say this was Princes downturn. He still had the songs but he wasnt putting out all killer no filler albums after this period. Around the world in a day was the last solid one.

Watched the performance in the beginning and some the interview. Stoked Shane is still around and has a great story .
That performance is so fucking sad. I count my lucky stars I was lucky enough to see him live 15 years ago, although they didn’t play Fairytale.

I would start gagging and likely barf as if I was sick as soon as I got the bags in my hand. This happened last time I had to flush someones shit. I puked all over the bathroom I hadn't had a hit in over 2 years
If I had 2 bags of primo number one I would run barfing to the pharm get a wack and id run to the nearest laundromat bathroom. If push off with an ooops note in my pocket just in case so people would know it don't mean anything.

Hands down my best live show was MF Doom.
It was at a tiny venue, had a real Rock the Bells vibe (he was an hour late and people are saying dude wasn't even in the country). Comes on, no talking and blasts out an insane set, so much energy.
Literally finishes the last song and bails, you could see the DJ about to cue something up and Doom just reaches across and shakes his head and walks off.
I was hoping to meet him and get something signed but I later heard he was pretty much in a cab out of there the second the house lights came up.

I was never a huge Lady Gaga fan or anything, but have always been very moved by this performance. No tricks or gimmicks, just raw energy, emotion and vocal power. Sends shockwaves through my torso every time. Simply Divine. Bless her for this and bless those children:

Saw them in 2010 (I think?), during the set they said they wouldn't play The Decline because they were too tired from playing it the night before at the previous date. So later I looked up bootleg recordings of that former show and indeed, they did play that song... For 30 seconds before giving up and switching to a different song because The Decline was 'too hard'. Then on the night after the one I went to, they played it in full. Motherfuckers!
-
Saw NOFX in Toronto the first time they played The Decline (so they said)
It was really good but obviously exhausted the band the rest of the show was pretty low energy but they pulled the Decline off note for note in it's entirety. I was super impressed.
Also Nubs was there from the song She's Nubs I was super surprised to see her but I guess I should have been expecting her to be there.

Essentially had the exact same experience when I saw him back in 2013. It was the in the old The Forum in Kentish Town.
Big Benn Klingon came on hyping the crowd up, when these hipster type kids in front of us who already were doing my head in talking loudly, kept saying ''THAT ISN'T MF DOOM?! HE IS AN IMPOSTER!'' Then, DOOM came on and killed it. I don't remember if it was actually exactly the same as your gig, snce I don't remember an encore or anything..
He seemed hyped to be there, though. He really did have the stage presence with a red mask on and even did a little shuffle in one of his songs. It was a sick lineup as well; Bishop Nehru as the first act and then Badbadnotgood just before DOOM. I do have some really bad short mobile phone footy from it.
https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/mf-doom/2013/the-forum-london-england-53c4fb91.html - setlist if anyone is interested.
Since I bring up DOOM I just remembered a cool story my mate told me. So, Paul Carter has a photo with a DOOM outside a gig in a van and apparently the story was they were skating past, when DOOM called them over. Apparently he was asking about skating because his son skated at the time. and of course, he got a photo with DOOM.

Clutch live in Guild Hall, Southampton. December '19.
My mate's first time seeing them and my 11th time I believe. Got wasted and rolled my ankle really bad in the pit.
However it was a dope gig as per norm for them.

I vaguely recall an interview with Fat Mike where he said he'd only play it once per city, but I think he was exaggerating. Either way I would love to see this live, with the orchestra or not.
I wasn't there, but last time they played Riot Fest they did all of Punk In Drublic for their set, and at the end they were like "well, guess we only have time for one more song" and they kicked into The Decline.

Been on a Death kick lately (that's fun to type) - out of all the killer live footage on youtube, this video remains my favorite. It's the perfect blend between authentic low fidelity filming and sonic clarity. Some classic club gig moments too - mic stand malfunctions for instance. You get a beautiful glimpse into the raw death metal energy that lies beneath the polished Morrisound studio quality. Although, the production on Leprosy is probably my favorite as far as raw sounds go. Anyhow - enjoy!

I was also at Reading Festival (I think 2002) when the singer of Dillinger took a shit on stage, likened it to slipknot, wiped it all over his face/chest, threw up all over himself and then launched himself into the crowd.

One of the best live performances I ever saw was Frank Black, around 98.
Straight 1 1/2 or 2- hour set, no breast, very little talking, just grinding out song after song, sweating like a blind lesbian in a fish market.
It was glorious, and fuck can he rock when he wants to.
I saw them a few years later in Vancouver, 3rd or 4th stop when the Pixies reunited, and even though that I’d probably m favorite band of all time, it that performance didn’t really start to mesh feel like music until the 7th or 8th song in.
-
That’s funny, I was just posting about Frank Black in another thread.
I love Teenager of the Year. I think that’s one of the best albums of the 90’s hidden in a record with some clunkers. Take away some of the weaker stuff and you still have 15 or so bangers.
-
In keeping within the topic:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C1R3UwsfsPk
I’ve seen them a handful of times but they sounded HUGE when they were a 3-piece. They slowed and quieted down a bit in the intervening years although the last time I saw them around 2 years ago they had livened it back up a little bit.
