Here's some middle of the road action* type shit that I liked:
Assassination Classroom
Darker Than Black
Erased*
Ergo Proxy
Promised Neverland

*Murder mystery type shit

Judging from your list you're probably not into comedy or slice of life type shit, but there is a tone of that out there.

Doublesteveburger is right. I delayed watching that My Hero Academia because of its swelling popularity, and even more so because of its subject matter (hero school? get the fuck outta here with this shit) butt fuck me, its actually real good. Worked out for me because it gave me the opportunity to binge the shit out of it.

I'm a serious Akira nerd. To the extent that I've spent the last 20 years building up one of the world's best collections of original production art from the film.

Looking forward to Otomo's upcoming anime series, based on the original manga. Shame the live-action movie keeps hitting the skids.

Perfect Blue its a bit of amalgamation of several different thriller/drama wrapped into one. The summary of it is a expop star turned actor deals with a stalker and it is genuinely creepy.

If you can stomach it Junji Ito is another great artist whom sometimes get turned into anime.

I just got back into watching Anime as I watched all the B action movies available on hulu on Amazon.

AKAME GA KIRU!
WORLD TRIGGER (bit childish but I got hooked)

and currently watching
ONE PAN MAN (first season was better than the second)
KIMETSU NO YAIBA
VINLAND SAGA

Heaps of others that I have watched an episode or two or season and then given up
GOLDEN KAMUI
DR STONE
JOJO
KINGDOM
etc.

My girl started getting me into anime. Perfect blue was the shit. It’s really hard to find something interesting because I don’t really know where to start. We watch one every couple months if we find something good, they are usually like classic family ones though. I liked wolf children I won’t lie.

Elfen Lied is my all time favorite anime series.

Death Note is great. Newer movies suck though.

Akira is the GOAT

Summer Wars is a pretty fun one.

Popotan is weird but kind of cool.

Neon Genesis obviously.

A lot of good shit out there
Title: Re: Anime

hoping to lean on yall for more suggestions

agreed on akira(yall know about bartkira?!)
samurai champloo, fist of the northstar, for some reason i read flcl or one part of it? ninja scroll was the most violent cartoon when i first saw it, cowboy bebop and space dandy are dope in my book
dbz was huge for me growing up
ive been told terror in resonance was good
my girl does all the studio gibli shit because her sister turned her onto it, which im cool with to an extent but im a dude and need blood guts and sex from time to time

i put on the assassin (80s anime i think) on amazon the other night-their selection seems ok-was all stoned and passed out, woke up to a gnarly sex scene haha

really want to read akira though, probably watch that film once a month

Not an anime but if you're into blood, guts and sex and like a good story Blade of the Immortal is a great comic. There is an anime version but it doesn't go into enough detail to get me hyped. I got my wife into it (the comic) and by the end of it she was crying even though it's brutal as hell with all violence that goes on

I get those being reluctant to finding a good anime to get into, I always try the classics Robot Carnival, Ninja Scroll 1 & 2, Akira, Perfect Blue, Joes Apartment, Studio Ghibli, try to lurk on Reddit I know thre are some uber nerds about which is what and what is true or rad or whatnot but if you are into a specific genre they've got you I have found some solid recommendations.
Title: Re: Anime

Ghost In The Shell
Death Note
Pyscho Pass
Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor (really dark anime about degenerate gamblers)
Code Geass

Pyscho Pass (season 1) was easily my favourite. Dark, twisted show that deals with themes like morality, death, justice and technology

Also, do you guys watch subbed or dubbed?

As a kid I hated anime, but about a year ago I forced myself to watch all of DB and DBZ in one summer, and now I feel much more open to it so I’ve been just pressing play on anything Netflix/Hulu that seems interesting.

Attack on Titan is brutal emotionally but so good.
One Punch Man is funny to me, and I agree first season was better—the manga is good too.
Similar feeling with JoJo’s, first two seasons were great but I’m losing steam now.
Death Note was good. Not much else to say. A classic.
Enjoyed Seven Deadly Sins a lot, except for the constant groping of Elizabeth by Meliodas...
Sword Art/Gun Gale Online were v enjoyable too and I watched all three close together so it was a nice experience.
Wish they had made more Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet.
Baki is okay.
Netflix’s Castlevania was good but idk how it relates to the games.
Currently on my first run of Hunter x Hunter and I’m a huge fan—got my roommates hooked on it too!

My favorite might be FMA: Brotherhood though. Where do y’all stand on Brotherhood vs Original?

I prefer dubbed bc I can work or do other stuff while it’s on the background, but if I’m into it and no dub is available I’ll do subs.

OPM was awesome, first season way better.

Baki is good. Same note, Kengan Ashura was good as well, a little annoying but I liked it anyway.

I keep a copy of Ninja Scroll on my phone and watch it using VLC if I have to do a lot of waiting anywhere. Still fascinating.

My kids' minds were blown with Death Note series (the japanese live action movies are ok, but the netflix movie is unwatchable)

Attack on Titan (with my kids, too)

Gintama

Ghost in the Shell

edit: also, no dub ever. My kids read really fast because they grew up with subs and now they are just like me and can't stand dubbed movies.

The last season of AOT was BEAST! I can't believe I have to wait another year to see the true final season lol.

Since you are getting into anime and liked AOT i would recommend Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (story hits hard like AOT) and it is one of my favourite animes.

I'm currently watching season 4 of Attack on Titan and its pretty insane. I won't spoil anything because holy shit.

I bought bluray of the Bubblegum Crisis OVAs since it all fit nicely on one disc and was a steal. It looks and sounds incredible compared to my worn out VHS.

I also bought the Record of Lodoss War series because I never got a chance to finish watching it, but I was able to get the whole series now for less than $20.

good anime: akira, mob psycho 100, full metal alchemist brotherhood, deathnote, stein's gate. one punch man is ok maybe. deathnote falls off when someone important dies. AOT is not bad but it just gets so weird and some characters are straight annoying.

Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans, saw it on netflix and was hooked after the first ep. im a huge fan of Cowboy Bebop, and even though its very different it reminded me of that a lot

I've never seen a Gundam series before but apparently its nothing like the main ones, and i found it real easy to pick up. its 50 episodes in 2 seasons, definitely worth checking out

i enjoy Attack on Titan as well, i read the manga though, i honestly feel like maybe the ending could be saved if its paced right, but im hoping by the time they get to it the writers could be allowed to change it entirely lol

watching the first season of mob psycho 100. goddamn, it's pretty dope. wouldn't have thought it would get so graphic a few episodes in. i was watching with a friend and she was quite shocked haha. still she thought the show overall was dope and besides watching one piece on tv when she was young she isn't even into anime.

Also, if you like gundam wing i would recommend checking out to anyone here the Gundam Origin series, its super short and needs no background info unlike most UC gundam stories.

Gundam Origin is like one part Star Wars one part game of thrones. Check it out.

absolutely agree, probably my favorite ghibli. saw someone say that ghibli doesnt have enough blood and guts, you should try princess mononoke. some really cool themes and definitely some blood and violence in there for you.

Been watching Demon Slayer for the first time and honestly its overhyped. Its just monster of the week with no real character development and real story. The animation is really good and its cool that you get some background on the demons.

Ranking of Kings is fantastic

I truly cannot recommend it enough
Quote
This isn’t a story with many simplistic heroes and villains. The result is a chopped salad of fairy tale structure, Game of Thrones castle intrigue, Lord of the Rings brotherhood, delicate domestic drama, and some of the most breathtaking moment-to-moment animation this side of a Ghibli film.

Here are some of my favorites: Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Fist of the North Star, Gundam, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Full Metal Alchemist, Dragonball Z, The Animatrix, Fooly Cooly, Sailor Moon, Lupin the Third, Howl’s Moving Castle, Pokémon, Samurai Champloo, etc.

Friends have suggested Berserk, Parasyte, Lain, Perfect Blue and Trigun. Will probably watch those next (not big into modern anime and the animation tbh).

So I started watching the Netflix version of Neon Genesis Evangelion in early 2020. A friend of mine told me to ditch it and watch the original English dub instead (sorry, I’m a dub guy). My Netflix subscription expired and I totally forgot about it.

Fast forward to May 2022 and I’m now dealing with all sorts of personal/family drama. I had a strong urge to watch it all of a sudden. Then I found this awesome site

https://4anime.gg/watch/neon-genesis-evangelion-209?ep=4784

(It is chock full of anime, subbed or dubbed btw)

I binge watched and by far it’s my favorite anime of all time. It totally broke me down. I put it up there with Alan Moore’s Watchmen, George Lucas’ Star Wars and Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 as one of the best, finest science fiction stories ever told. Hideaki Anno is a master storyteller.

For anyone who has depression, bipolar disorder, suicidal thoughts, or schizophrenia, be warned that this series may trigger you or bring back bad memories. That being said, as someone who’s been 5150’d and been in mental institutions, I gained so much from watching this anime.

Going to watch End of Evangelion next. What a fucked, brilliant story.

Anyone here watched the finale for Attack on Titan?

I watched it last saturday and rewatched it this friday and I'm still amazed at how it all panned out... I'm not ready to move onto a new anime just yet I'm still mourning the end of it lol

I saw dropped the subs on Hulu, I'm mad excited since I thought S4 was engaging and suspenseful, but I'll need some dedicated time to watch 2 sittings of over an hour of subtitles.... imo, the main drawback to subbed anime is you can't be in the other room following along...

My anime mourning is Toyko Ghoul. The first season was so fucking dark and grimey, but I could not stay with it once they changed the main character (classic complaint, anime vs. manga, etc.). That torture scene w/ Kaneki and Jason was fucked up.

Lots of good recommendations in here!  Thanks!

One I didn't see that I really liked is Dorohedoro.  Only bummer is that they've only made one season of it.

@Coldpizza seems like you might know some good stuff.
