I'm thankful for Indys because as someone with truck madness, going back to Indys  from another truck feels like going home.

Agree. The best thing are the confused looks when you bust some flips and 180s. "Damn, I thought you were hurt." "Nah, I am just a pussy and fear for my ankle"  ;D

chocolate shape with deluxe reliability. if they really wanted to have complete control over the industry, they could just make all the popular shapes and keep their current customer service and wood

What size were you riding prior? I went from 7.75 to 8.06, life changing. Now I'm thinking of going up to 8.125, 8.25 or even 8.5.

Where does such a unicorn even exist?

Deluxe shape and wood with average man proportions?

I just pop and flip the board better when it’s got a normal wheelbase and length

I’m not 6+ feet tall and want my legs spread like a cowboy to ride my board now

I’m thankful for this hockey deck I found, re learned tre flips and it feels good

I went from 8 to 8.5. It was awesome. Had to get new trucks of course - 149’s. Now I’ve gone back down a bit to 8.375 with the 149’s.

Last summer they started doing maybe one or two boards a season. The one I have now is a Krooked Bobby Worrest. In the current DLX catalog TNT has an Anti Hero with the shape. I’ve also seen a Brian Anderson and a Busenitz but pretty sure they only do one per season. My local shop got this one in and I scooped it up right away. I’m 5’8 so I like a smaller wheelbase so it’s perfect for me. Im probably going to have the shop start special ordering them for me from now on because I’m ruined for anything else.

I bet

The pop must be nice, always nice reliable and solid

And don’t even get me started on how it flips, your tricks gotta be too easy and comfortable to throw out and catch

Did you also get a deeper shape or one of the mellow ones?

What are the dimensions on the Hockey you’re skating? I liked the DLX 8.12 x 31.38 but felt the kicks were a little too short when skated with Thunders. Trying a crail g052 next- 8.25 x 31.875 14”wb.

Always thankful for a good shape with a short wheelbase which is why I’ll probably support crail well past their heyday

Its a faux pas in some circles,  including mine but I do rotate my trucks to prolong their life. They are equally tight/loose so it works well enough.

Dynavap, Stfs, Ace or indy, single fin surfboards, wetsuits, my bmx bike.
If you're going wider you may want to go with smaller wheels then what you're on now.  As a truck gets wider, wheel bite increases and so does swingweight.  52 mm is good for park anyway if thats your thing.  A wide board with big wheels and risers is just a big piece of shit imo -better off with a bike.

Been skating a long time.  Listen: godspeed with you and I wish you a long life in skating but chances are stats show, you wont be skating as long as I will have at the end of this shit.  The majority of people quit and they don't skate for 33 years straight. But yah kudos if you can have fun on a board like that.  -Plenty fast and smooth I suppose-

I remember before when that mattered was the board width. Then it was like "ugh, 31.875? This shit is too short!". Now you're like "life is shit, can't find a good 8.5x32.25 WB 14.25"
I miss the good ol'days when you were like "is this 8? Great! Thanks, bye"

Oh the good old days. “Sweet it’s a 7.625-7.88,  I’ll take it”. Now it’s all “8-8.125 but maybe if it’s an 8.25 but oh shit never mind the wheelbase is over 14” and maybe I could do that 14.25 but only if it’s a 31.5 or less.  Maybe if I switch from venture to thunders it will help with a longer wheelbase but oh no what if my shit turns different.?”  The more I know the more stressful it is. I’m about to just say fuck it and go with an 8.25 baker or deathwish since the shop always has those in and they seem to be more consistent with their wheelbase and lengths than deluxe.

Then you hop on Slap and read even more and get even more mindfucked. The deck width + WB + trucks + wheel shape & size is getting talked about because there is actual "science" behind it that can make a break a setup; but I also do miss the earlier days of chancing upon that dream setup where everything works and you couldn't explain it.

I got a barely used Habitat setup for cheap 2nd hand and put together a 7.75 setup but both weren't working for me at all after riding my first DLX Real board. I feel like shit especially for setting up the 7.75 one because on the first session I knew it was not working for me, even after swapping out the trucks and messing with risers.

But discovering wider boards for sure and Spitfires too. I used to ride whatever blank wheels the shop sold, maybe Bones if I had a couple of dollars spare.

Gear aside, getting my nephew and wife into skateboarding. I was listening to Reese Forbes on The Nine Club and he talked about how his uncle got him into skateboarding, hope I can be that for him too.

Formula 4's
Thunder 149's. I took an 8 year hiatus from skateboarding, used to skate 8" Ventures, Thunders are similar when it comes to pop, but the turn suites me better.
Adidas Busenitz pro's. Skateboarding used to fuck up my back, i skated a lot of Half cab pro's and loved them, the Busenitz fixed my back problems, while still being a solid feeling shoe.
The only gripe i have with current gear, is that i can't find boards with a flatter feeling concave anymore, back in the day i used to skate 8" boards that felt like a plank.
I would love some recommendations of flatt boards in the 8.25-8.5 range.

I hope the guy with 50 completes lists off every part he owns
It’s just nice to have a solid board under my feet, thinking about my setups or what to change has become a fun way to clear my mind.
Gonna try to ride one setup for all of 2020 and not change anything the whole year

After spending about 5-6 months on thunder 149 I’m feeling good going back to Indy 149s they just feel better to me. My only issue is from riding thunders I really liked thunders with a 14.25 wheelbase. And the Indys feel good but the setup now is 14.25 and it don’t feel as good so I may go to 14.5  on my next board.

Also tried jessup on current set up.  Found out i like mob more.

Sizing up in dickies is a game changer.

I'm thankful for:

- My silver skate tool. Best skate tool in the game.
- 7/8's Diamond supply co. hardware.
- Gulf wax.
- Super swiss 6's and the new Andale swiss (it's probably the only Andale bearings worth buying).
- 50mm Bones STF v3
- Chapman for making/selling 7.875 blanks
- Bearing press
- Thunder 147's because now I don't get wheel bite and I turn better. And because they slide.
- White leather Supra Elevates. They're exactly what I want in a skate shoe.

Switched from 8.25 down to 8.06 this year. The krooked 8.06 full with I concave is probably the highlight of all the boards I’ve ridden this year.
Definitely thankful for that one.
And conical/ conical full wheels.

Never skated radials so I couldn’t really tell you. Seems like radials have a more rounded edge and aren’t as wide ( just by a little). I like the conical because they feel a little more stable and lock in great.

Not gear - but discovering wheelbases this year changed everything. Or made everything more tedious, either or.

Ah geez the WB rabbit hole. I've got 3 sets of trucks and I'm planning on getting another 2. Gear madness is real.

But definitely finding out about WB and larger decks has made coming back to skateboarding after a couple of years out so much fun.
[close]

Wheelbase is the best/worst thing to find out about. It’s the main source of my madness and I often long for times before I knew and I could skate whatever
[close]
I remember before when that mattered was the board width. Then it was like "ugh, 31.875? This shit is too short!". Now you're like "life is shit, can't find a good 8.5x32.25 WB 14.25"
I miss the good ol'days when you were like "is this 8? Great! Thanks, bye"

True true.. Last time it was like "as long as its 7.75"..now its multiple type of trucks on this or that wheelbase 😅.. Luckily no skateshops in my country sells Ace trucks.. Only indy, thunders & ventures.. And the occasional theeves..

Smaller gear for getting some flip tricks back into my life.

I went down to 8.25 decks but kept 8.5 trucks, and there was noticeable change, but once I sized down the trucks too things really started to happen.

An electric screwdriver with the allen socket head attachments. I put together a lot of boards so this is a huge time saver.

Thunder 148 Titanium after struggling to love Ventures for so long. They are a touch too light but I like being able to slap them on most decks and not worry (as much) about wheelbase.

My ankle compression sleeve, studded foam roller, lacrosse ball, Everymile balancer, stationary bike I found on the sidewalk, arnica gel, Charlottes Web cbd, ( my rad physical therapists, ortho surgeon, Elm Drug Pharmacy, and my CPA groups. They aren't gear but I am so grateful <3 )
Finding Parade World with love to Labor, KCDC, and Orchard
After PT told me to wear mid tops until ankle surgery walking into the Vans store and buying some Half Cab Pros and the new insole is so nice and I'm so grateful to wear Vans again
The NYC LGBTQ+ Coda rainbow curbs Pat Smith and Mecos Roman make and place throughout the 5 boroughs. I finally learned back lipslides on one of them
My Fastcap standard easy half pro carpenter measuring tape. It's perfect and even has red markers for 16ths
Pelikan inks and Flashe paint
Slap for its wheelbase / truck madness helping me find my shape/sweet spot
I found a Toy Machine cruiser in the trash that was all tagged up and one wheel was fucked up-like cored like an apple and they had the bones bushing in the indy stage Xs upside down haha. I'm fixing it up for my friend's son. The search for the perfect wheels for his first setup is a next level madness as well as what Transformer to paint on it for the graphic and what kind of grip job to do.

Shalom <3

Thankful for good wheels. I kind of bug on having to choose between F4 and NFG/Loophole but it rules so much that wheels as good as either exist. I don't remember anything back in the day being anywhere near as good.

venture 5.2 lows
learned a ton on them this year, its a shame that the 5.6/8.5 combo has phased them out of rotation. might bite on the 5.6 lows if they ever come into production

new Thunder 149 polished.

had my old Indy's for like 7 years. They had no half a bushing in back and none in front. Kingpins were dented on both and trucks were ground to right above the axel. new trucks are a blessing.

Not gear per se, but I'm thankful for all the stylin' on you threads. They make my day every fucking time! More so on the days I don't get to skate, since it cheers me up in place of riding the gear I'm thankful to toy around on!

- Indys. No other truck compares and they work well and look good. Will never skate another brand as long as I can.
- Etnies Michelin cupsoles: Marana and Joslins. They're my reliable homebase that I venture back to after trying other shoes that don't meet my expectations.
- Bones STF. However, a F4 CF set I'm on may sway me to Spitfires to be thankful for. Hahah
- Slap's gear Madness! It's only affected my deck and shoe madness a little bit. Thankfully not wheels, trucks, or any other parts. But the insight on how and why my gear works a certain way is appreciated.
- DLX wood and Primitive decks (shapes only not graphics). Another reliable homebase when deck madness elsewhere isn't working out for me.
- Volcom pants: Fricken Modern Stretch and VMonty Chinos are the fucking truth! Flexible, durable, comfortable, and have a lot of good colors (khaki, black, mushroom, and dark green are my faves)

Thankful to nerd out on skating with other skate rats on here! I know I'll see some of you out and around but just won't put a username to the person haha!

Right now my Dickies pants. Love them and it kills me not knowing the model. Inside they only say "slim taper" and dickies flex. No number whatsoever. They have a weird pocket behind the right knee tho

Are these them? I've been thinking of grabbing a pair.

They look almost the same but that weird right leg back pocket is not that up.
I couldn't care less about said pocket but I'm afraid that I would get some pants and they won't feel like the ones I'm talking about.

Try contacting Dickies directly, their customer service is really good they'll probably be able to help you figure it out
