Title: Thoughts on Adidas, Nike, New Balance?
Post by: BlindForLife! on December 11, 2019, 07:23:54 PM
I'm 18 and a beginner, but skaters are arguing about the whole core vs. corp deal. I currently have Adidas and should I get a core shoe next time like Emerica, Lakai, or eS? Do you think non-shoe companies are bad though?

Although urban legend has it that the word "Adidas" is an anagram of the phrase "all day I dream about sports," the athletic wear company gets its name from its founder, Adolph "Adi" Dassler. He and his brother founded the company that would become a worldwide brand, but their history as members of the Nazi Party isn't as well known.

Beginnings of Adidas Shoes
In 1920, at the age of 20, avid soccer player Adolph (Adi) Dassler, son of a cobbler, invented spiked shoes for track and field. Four years later Adi and his brother Rudolph (Rudi) founded the German sports shoe company Gebrüder Dassler OHG—later known as Adidas. T

By 1925 the Dasslers were making leather shoes with nailed studs and track shoes with hand-forged spikes.

Beginning with the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, Adi's uniquely designed shoes began to gain a worldwide reputation. Jesse Owens was wearing a pair of Dassler's track shoes when he won four gold medals for the US at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

At the time of his death in 1959, Dassler held over 700 patents related to sports shoes and other athletic equipment. In 1978, he was inducted into the American Sporting Goods Industry Hall of Fame as one of the founders of the modern sporting goods industry.

The Dassler Brothers and World War II
During the war, both Dassler brothers were members of the NSDAP (The National Socialist German Workers' Party) and eventually even produced a weapon called "Panzerschreck" an anti-tank bazooka, made with the help of forced labor.

The Dasslers both joined the Nazi Party prior to the war, and Adi supplied shoes to the Hitler Youth movement, and to German athletes at the 1936 Olympics. It's also believed that Adi Dassler used Russian prisoners of war to help at his factory during the war since there was a labor shortage due to the war effort.

The Dasslers had a falling out during the war; Rudolf believed Adi had identified him as a traitor to American forces. In 1948, Rudi founded what would later become Puma, a rival shoe company to Adidas.

The second key factor for the shoe firm in the early 1930s was the role sport played in the racial-nationalist philosophy of Hitler. With the rise of the Nazi Party, athletic teamwork was prioritized. The Dassler brothers did not fail to see how their economic interest would benefit from politics; all three Dassler brother joined the Nazi Party on 1 May 1933—three months after Hitler was appointed Chancellor.[16] Rudolf was said to be most ardent believer of the three.[2] But it was Adi who decided that becoming a coach of and supplier to clubs in the Hitler Youth movement was essential to expanded production, and he joined in 1935.

Here’s why I personally don’t skate Nike or Adidas, everyone and their sister has a pair of janowskis or adidas.
Those brands do good things for skateboarders and skateboarding.
I like to wear stuff that I usually don’t see other people in my area wearing.
So honestly just buy what you like. If you love a certain color of a Nike Sb shoe, go for it.
If you see a DC or eS shoe you really like, go for it.
If you can buy the shoes you like from a local skateshop, they would appreciate your financial support.
If you're poor or only buy shoes when they are on sale for super cheap, fuck it, buy from 6pm or amazon.

Dc makes my favorite shoes right now.
eS is my all time fav shoe brand.
Sorry if this was not any help. Shalom

I'll say this much, getting a pair of Adidas Ultra Boosts is one of the best things I've ever done for my feet.

Look for a pair of Sheep shoes if you really want to impress the local skateboarders at your spot.

I think there needs to be more options in the shoe department, like imagine how boring it would be if everyone wore blazers? I'd be bored of them, Nike and Adidas are cool but I think they should leave room for other shoe companies to grow that way there's diversity on the shoe wall. I don't think I've ever seen anyone skate NB's in person. I mostly skate vans and Adidas but I would totally try sheep, or a pair of DC's, I just don't want a super chonky shoe. I like a medium built shoe with some meat but not a whole lot.

Publically traded companies don't think like this unless they are about to run into an anti-trust suit. Nike, Vans, and Adidas. They have a responsibility to their shareholders to maximize profits. DC is back in private equity, and NB is privately owned, but they both likely operate under this mindset.

I don't really care, as long as companies are hooking good people up. All sponsor a bunch of amazing pros, and many hire ex-pros into decent jobs. Its not like "core" companies haven't fucked over good skaters over the years.

Nike makes decent product

Adidas makes decent product

NB makes decent product AND has 12 factories right here in the good ol’ USA. NB employs actual Americans to do work, not just to be sitting in an office while China pumps everything out. Not all NB shoes are made here, but I believe buying from them helps a lot of Americans get a pay check.

New balance is NOT an east coast new England or Boston shoe.

Its lies when they say that during q and a.
