I've seen a young 8 year old skateboarder with around 30k followers on instagram at my local park once or twice. The only reason i remember him is because his dad would curse at him repeatedly when he doesn't land a trick. I've seen him on the ground crying from eating shit and his dad would call him a pussy. I've also seen the poor kid crying in the corner of the park trying to stay away from his dad and being too shy to speak up when other kids close to his age would ask if he's okay. This kid's rad dad is a fucking monster and puts his kid through hell for instagram popularity, etc.
When you see the slams this little kid takes on instagram, you know damn well that any other little kid would have stopped after eating shit so badly. Instead, his shitty ass dad forces him to do it again until he either lands it or gets hurt, and then writes on the posts how "passionate" his son is to keep going and land it. This kid never seems hyped to be skating and keeps trying stuff as a result of his fear of his dad. Almost everytime he lands a trick, he looks relieved to finally have it over with and not have to deal with his dad instead of being hyped that he did something hard (like any other little kid would). I honestly hope child services takes custody of the child from that terrible father of his before he gets severely injured from being forced to try something that's too gnarly for him.

Do you think an 8 year old really wants to retry a trick after slamming like that?
TLDR: 8 year old kid eats shit hard, cries in pain and has to re-try tricks because his rad dad forces him to
Some #raddad will get charged with child abuse after forcing his tiny kid to rack himself on huge rails and slam on his face down huge stairs way beyond his ability and level of strength. #thankyouskateboarding #skatecoach

so for people that don’t understand minor league baseball, to put it simply, this dude played at a level just above college. AA is the second lowest level, and for pitchers it’s make or break time. if you can pitch well in AA, you’ll get bumped to the majors at some point. if you’re pitching in AA for years, your shot at the majors was gone in the first year, and you’re just too stubborn or stupid to see the writing on the wall. also, AA players make like 15,000 a year in 2020, can’t imagine how little this moron made throughout his “career”Expand QuoteExpand QuoteHe played professional baseball for ten years and has not enough money to let his kid enjoy life?pretty sad!!!

I can guarantee from personal experience that this kids body is gonna be completely fucked by the time he's 18. He can barely flip his board and he's jumping down 20's. Nyjah was talking about kids like these in a recent interview. How they don't bother to learn the basics which are the building blocks for every other trick. That's why nyjah never got seriously hurt, because he put in so much time practicing every trick and getting really consistent. This kid is gonna be a flash in the pan, another Carlo Ruiz. Still, ollieing a 20 stair at that age is crazy. There's not a lot of pros that can do that.a lot of pros don’t weigh 70 lbs either

If slap raised a kid they would be the greatest skateboarder ever for their given natural abilities. They would have the big cat to train them, that’s all that needs to be said. Now on top of that they would have the rest of Slap which there’s a lot of smart and good skateboarders on here interspersed with all the shitheads, plus there are non great skateboarders on here who are mighty fine people and would raise them to be a good young man/woman.

It reminds me of John Cardiel's Epicly Laterd, where Phelps tells a story about how John's dad was an ex-Marine I believe, and made John jump off a 70-foot bridge or something when he was seven or eight. Obviously it's water instead of concrete, and it's not skateboarding, but in my opinion it's still not the right way to raise a child. Not talking badly about Cardiel's family, I just don't agree with that.
Furthermore, it also reminds me of a PhD candidate who wanted to make her kids "strong" so she would show them horror movies...her kids were 5-8 years old. These backwards-ass misconceptions of parenting continue to be used. I don't get it.

Dude of course his dad's running his account. He's probably not allowed to have crayons at a family restaurant because he might scribble for help.
i saw a very young Nyjah with his dad several times a week when i worked at vans skatepark. Little nyjah never skated with any other kids, only his dad. little nyjah could also heelflip board slide the rail, and do other tricks that seemed to involve skill. trea the tank is young and could still develop skills, but blasting ollies and doing 5050s isnt really progressive skating. remember how good and tech young louie was or young bledsoe. they did real tricks. hopefully dad is just biding time until young trea is ready to lean to throw a curve ball. all the money is in baseball. $15,000 a year to be in the minor leagues beats getting flowed boards as an eternal AM.

This thread is straight gnarly. I wonder how this will escalate....I bet the dad won't actually fight, but if he did my money is he would whoop ass, he just looks like that. As for the kid, like I said earlier he could be pro in a few years or playing a different sport.
The nastiest thing about all this is the thread. To be calling someone a child abuser online from a different state or country is fucked up. I can't imagine what would happen if the skate dad's and mom's in my state got accused of child abuse because of a still frame or because *gasp* a kid cried and a parent swore. This shit reminds me of the bbq 911 bitch or that other bitch calling 911 for the kid selling water bottles.
Go hang out at grocery store all day or a mall. You'll see mom's and dads go crazy on their kids all day. Call the cops and hang out waiting for them to arrive and file a report for a parent yelling. 🤔

I dunno how people can believe the dad for simply denying these claims.
You know how easy it is to ask somebody over social media if they did something wrong and for them to answer "nah"
If you approach anybody for having done something wrong at any time in the past, they're most likely going to deny it. Not saying that this is in the past, but this has been an ongoing thing with this dude and his child for the last few years at the minimum

Just watched his most recent revenge compilation on YouTube. Kid broke his leg skating a stair set not super long ago. Shits depressing. I will say though that he has quite a few fucking tricks he can pull down 10 stair rails which I was suprised by, in that vid I saw bs board, fs board, fs lipslide, front 50-50, front 5-0, front smith, back krook, and back feeble on 10 stair or bigger rails. As much as we want to shit on his dad, kid has a decent amount of tricks he can do on big fucking rails for his age. I wanted to watch and see if this kid was just doing Ollie’s and boardslides on giant shit before I came on here with a comment. Kid can kickflip, shuvit, and 180 down good sized shit as well. If I were this kids coach, and I’ve coached enough kids, it’s obvious the kid has the balls to skate whatever he wants, so it’s not really in his best interest in terms of getting hurt to really push him in that direction anymore. I do think skating bigger stuff when you are younger is actually the time to do it because if you are small and can skate a 10 stair handrail, it definitely will age better then learning it later so long as you don’t suffer major injuries. I would say at this point kid needs to focus on developing a flatground game, getting his switch skating down, and learning how to play on box’s, manual pads, and also learning as many tricks as possible on flat round rails. This kid actually has the potential to be a really good skateboarder, but if his dad keeps pushing him in one myopic way with his skateboarding, there’s no way this kid becomes great. He should also teach him how to carve and do some slalom. Some slalom would really open this kids style up. I could write a literal manual on how to make this kid top level and the exercises he would need to do. The Big Cat has had so many people over the years ask him how to make their kids good skaters and have been willing to pay good money. If this dad was serious and wanted an actual opinion on how to make a great skater, he really should hit up cheetah. I don’t want to see this kid get hurt when he has good potential, and someone as good as me could rationalize with the father and make him be like yo this isn’t the best route for your kid. Straight up hit up cheetah if you’re reading this Matt.

He's too small to get a flatground game.
Smaller kids need drops/ramps to do flip tricks because they can't jump high enough to do them on flat. I'd suggest that now is the time to master transition.

are you smoking crack? Little kids can do any flip trick. The fact you think flip tricks require strength and not board mechanics/leverage tells me a lot about what you know in regards to flip tricks/skating in general. Learning flip tricks at that age is the best because it ingrains the muscle memory before 13, then when the kid grows and gets the strength to pop that shit he’s already consistent as fuck. I’m saying this not to be a dick but because people have literally begged me to train their children. There is not a single flip trick a kid would not be able to do with proper technique. Where this is more true is technical manual/ledge skating because you need power to flip in and out correctly, but just for base flatground flips, no son, you’re fucking wrong, so fucking wrong. Plus learning how to slalom would be so much more beneficial for this kid then learning how to skate transition but that’s a whole different story.

Well no shit bud, you're raising him like a commodity instead of a child. How do you expect a child to show you any respect or even have self respect when all you've instilled in him is a purely risk reward mindset. I know single A baseball teams don't teach Social Rule System Theory but this poor kid's entire existence revolves around you exploiting him for your own gratification and gain on social media. Deny it all you want but the way his entire social media presence is crafted is out of his control and everything in those clips and pictures points to a kid his been coached and managed and conditioned into something simply to please his failure of a father.
Let him be a kid and actually skate with other people away from the camera. Just the sheer volume of content alone on these pages you've made for him is disturbing. We all skate, we know how time consuming it is traveling from spot to spot and the time it takes in between these trips to rest up. Not to mention the fact that he's in elementary school and spends his entire day in school. Like what time does he actually have to be a child and develop normal relationships and learn about life the way kids are supposed to?
Imagine having to explain to a social worker why your small child is covered in bruises and black eyes on your IG. This guy is building his own case. Foster care would probably be a relief for this kid.Or maybe it’s a great alibi. “No I don’t hit him this is from skateboarding”

I did my first tic tacs and rode a board for the first time when I was 3, and could you know ride around the driveway on my little world industries board. I then quit like 3 weeks into it and didn’t become a “skateboarder” until like 10, although I rode a board on and off in my driveway not doing tricks every summer between then, which I credit with making me realize the importance of not doing tricks.

Now I definitely ate some shit at 3 years old, and to be honest the younger I was, the more shit I was willing to eat before giving up, I found this to be true even as I aged. Like if I get smoked now it’s fucking over, so I don’t agree with that shit. I also had a similar experience of having a black eye from jumping off my roof as kid and the school thinking my dad or mom beat me as a kid, so putting this out here like this is definitely not shalom because little kids do crazy shit, and my dad or mom definitely did not beat my ass. But when you look at the things we have to go off I definitely think it's fair to call the dad "exploitative". You're absolutely right about social media being a means to an end in regards to sponsorship and shit. However when you look at hashtags like "grandeur" and "instafame" and read comments from the guy it gives serious credibility to the stories about him being demeaning to his son in public and makes the overly managed social media accounts look weird as well.
Most of us were under age 10 using some form of social media. I had a fucking geocities page dedicated to Korn at that age (and was deep into skateboarding) so you'd think there would some form of personal expression from Trae on his own pages. These pages just feel like a marketing tool from the dad more than Trae's own outlet which again reinforces the "exploitative" nature of everything.
I just think it's sad. Is it uncommon? No and unfortunately because of social media this stuff is more prevalent than it's ever been. But in this case being skateboarders we know what "normal" is in regards to how somebody skating at that level should be. I mean just the way he slams like a wet mop alone gives the impression that his entire time on a skateboard has been about being a hashtag. Playing the devil's advocate here, but if a situation is becoming uncomfortable to watch as a family member there's no reason to keep quiet. I mean, sure, you're trying to judge the severity of the situation but at some point (sooner than later) it's worth speaking up to stop things from getting completely out of hand if you can.
Yeah, not everyone is a total psycho about a family member speaking up. My two sisters stopped talking to each other over the dumbest shit. One was being a little shit and cut the older one off, they are both adults at that time. I just happened to talk to my mom about and was like wow, she's totally fucked up. After all the times we get her back for her dumb shit she never does the same. How lame. I guess my mom told her what I said and she felt like a shithead and they made peace right away. I think just being the only guy in the family, and being very level headed helped. When my mom told me they made up she might as well have told me I had the juice now.Expand QuoteExpand QuoteNobody here would say shit to this kid's dad's face.

Some of you are gonna freak out at this can of worms and I'm sorry to reveal this to you. But Trae the Tank and company are nothing compared to what happened YEARS AGO. Look up Jett and Jagger Eaton, Tom Scharr, Minna Stess, Brighton Zeuner, and the list goes on. FUCK. Possible child abuse, WineCoolersinthePriusGate, from Bob Burnquist 🤯 , the X Games, the Berrics, Woodward and many more industry heads are all involved. FUCK. FUCK. FUCK. The only way to stop this is put a LEGAL AGE RESTRICTION on skateboards in 2020, in the United States of America, create serious legal fines and LAWS for underage skating, and skate parks must be closely monitored by life gaurds and CERTIFIED parental supervisors. FUCK. SERIOUS BUSINESS. THERES TOO MANY GROMMETS GETTING GNARLY. FUUUUUUUUUU WE NEED A GROMMET VERSION OF ICE IN SKATEBOARDING ASAP. LOCK THEM UP. NO GNAR GNAR FOR YOU. amen 🙈🤮

do you by chance remember that interview?
Nigel: So Trae - what was the scariest thing about trying to ollie Rincon?
Trae: Me clipping.
Nigel: You clipping?
Trae: Yeah. And that actually did happen.
Nigel: Yeah. That was pretty crazy dude.
Nigel: Alright Trae - so when you tried Rincon - that was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. But I did see in the comments that a lot of people think that your dad forces you to do it. And I was there. I know your dad doesn't force you to do anything...But we were all about to leave, and me and my filmer actually got outside the gate, and then they didn't come. And I was like, "Wait, where are they?" So I called, and Trae's dad was like, "Hey - he's trying it again! He's trying it again! He just already tried it once." So we rush back in, and Trae decided to want to try it again after we started to leave. He's like - what'd you say?
Trae: I said, "I'm just gonna get this. I don't care if I fall or hurt myself." I just wanted to get it.
Nigel: And then after that first slam too, like, you weren't even, like, hurt. So - it looks gnarly. It does. I'm gonna admit that.
Trae: It did hurt, but not enough for me to stop trying it.
Nigel: 'Cus you just wanted to get it that bad, right?
Trae: Mmhmm.
Nigel: So these haters - they just don't understand how tough this guy really is. He's a freaking tank. Trae "The Tank." Handlin' biz bro. And if a kid is really hurt - we know when they're hurt, and we're gonna have them stop. Any skater. Period. I don't like seeing anyone skate hurt or get hurt. He's rolling out info like the QAnon of the skate industry, but what's he/she/they getting out of it? I let my son do things he wants to do and try to avoid pushing him. I'm becoming that guy but I actually did DM Andrew Cannon to get his opinion on this when I first saw the thread. No response so far. I like Andrew, he seems levelheaded so I'd like to hear his thoughts.
I don't get it.[close]
my guess is that LPQ is SLAP admins drumming up content for threads to boost user activity here so they can sell ads for the bedazzled John Dixon Emerica shoe.Expand QuoteExpand QuoteExpand QuoteLPQ is impartial motherfucker. put some respect on that nameExpand QuoteSo which is it LPQ?

If I'm wrong please tell me, but I'd say that the reason it's not widely spread amongst homeless people is that A) homeless people don't travel to other countries and don't usually fraternize with people who do and B) they aren't usually frequenting enclosed public spaces. And that's assuming that homeless people aren't getting affected; maybe they are.

I feel like this is just encouraging towards all of the rad dads which is a bummer. They could have at least interviewed the kid and his dad or have the dad interview the kid, idk but this seems whack as fuck imo

Also kinda odd that the dad mentions that his parents kept him from doing what he wanted as a kid by forcing him into sports, but this seems to be the same behavior he pushes on his kid with skateboarding from what i've seen of them in person

Either way, I try to check in with youtube's trending videos tabs every few days. There are at least 4 "Youtube Families" posting "We're pregnant/having a kid" videos. Again, it should be obvious, but these sociopathic parents are going to raise children with a camera in their face from the moment they're born. It could be argued that (considering the fact all these "Families" are having kids at the same time) they are breeding for the sole purpose of building their "brand".

An aside, MTV wanted Bam to have a kid for Unholy Union and he was so disgusted by this idea suggested by the producers he quit. Or, gave up. The idea his moral code is stronger than these ultra-conservative, religious, youtubers is saying something.

I'm becoming that guy but I actually did DM Andrew Cannon to get his opinion on this when I first saw the thread. No response so far. I like Andrew, he seems levelheaded so I'd like to hear his thoughts.

I'm telling you straight up my friend, I know former pros and many other skaters who can't skate anymore because they focussed on doing big shit when they were younger. You seem to be really hung up on the age when injuries happen, while I'm talking about the long term effects of this type of skating in general. Trae seems to be into huge drops. I barely fucked with gaps and rails and at 43 my body is a painful wreck, but I can still skate because I kept it more low impact most of the time.
But yeah - hit us with links to these rippers who blew both knees twice and are still ripping on the same level. Love to see it. That's inspiring. Something tells me you made that up though.

the arguement about gaps being damaging is kinda stupid - like, obviously jumping down big shit repeatedly isnt gonna be great for you long term BUT its not as bad as some people are making out. this kid is most likely not gonna be in a wheelchair when he is 40 - look at Jaws hes 30 now and still doing stupidly high drops.
Jamie Thomas, Andrew Reynolds, Rowley .. plenty skaters who were integral to the stair/rail era who are still skating at a high level
I think a lot of it comes down to luck (or possibly genetics) - I have a freind who is the same age as me - he never skated, or really did anything that would be considered physically damaging yet he is fucked, he complains about knee pain like a retired carpet fitter - some peoples bodies are just less sturdy than others, its pot luck imo

You are claiming that 5-12 year olds jumping down 10 stairs will end up in a wheelchair and claiming that's child abuse are fucking major kooks.
Also claiming that today's pros didn't hit big gaps when they were pre-teens and need assistance walking is major bullshit. There is not one pro in the history of pro skating walking with a cane because of a pre-teen stair set or gap injury. That would mean they went through their whole pro career using a fucking cane and could say it came from this specific session when I was 7 ollieing a 10 stair lmao.

If he continues on that path for much longer, he will be feeling it for the rest of his life, trust me. I barely fucked with gaps and rails and at 43 my body is a painful wreck, but I can still skate because I kept it more low impact most of the time.

Mike York!! Remember Hot Chocolate tour? His knee brace? He's not in a wheelchair. He's probably out skating right now. I'll try and think of more pros...not naming personal friends that's too easy. I like the puzzle/brain challenge of trying to remember.
There's got to be more recoveries than that, but I'm not sure. Eldy, Kelly, and Crob had injuries and have dropped new clips since their injuries. Kelly was out for a while then fakie tre flipped up the stage to fakie manual. I wonder if Andrew Reynolds or Jeremy Wray hit big gaps in their pre-teens, or went through any knee injuries? Same with Alphonzo Rawls. Probably not? Because their careers would have been cut way short (sarc.). Maybe it's in their Epicly Later'd. That's a trip Diego the Butcher just had that shared part drop a year or two ago, and he's still got it after years of skating big shit. But maybe these recent years are the first time in life when 8 year olds hit big gaps (sarc.)?

Trae skated in our contest and got 4th place and Matt confronted us in the office about it.
He yelled in our faces about how his kid should have won.
His wife told us "We have 30 thousand followers, you guys are done"

So yeah, the 'I know multiple people who have blown both knees twice and still rip' was made up, glad that's been cleared up.
And just to be clear on my end of things - I'm not even saying that someone who blew both knees twice won't be able to keep skating. I'm just saying blowing your knees in the first place is not a good thing, and no matter if you keep skating or not, arthritis is real and the majority of skaters who tear MCL's and ACL's end up cutting down on skating because of it.
I was not the one saying people are going to be in a wheelchair the rest of their life, and I believe the posters who said that weren't being literal. It's a way of saying 'I think this kid who loves big gaps and doesn't seem to take the landings well might be in rough shape later in life'. Everyone is different. I know plenty of people who had serious injuries like blown knees who still skate amazing. No one is saying you can't skate if you tear your knee or suffer some other serious injury. We're showing concern for a little dude who is taking a heavy gamble for his age/skill level - many posters are concerned about the part the dad plays (I'm trying not to focus on that too much since I don't know them) - and many of us are giving feedback from years and years of experience in skateboarding on what the long term effects of heavy impact skating/serious injuries are. Maybe you've been really lucky and haven't had any serious injuries yourself, or you're still so
young that you haven't started to feel the long term pain yet - but trust us, it's real.
I also never said he should stop doing what he's doing. Simply making observations on his technique and discussing injuries.
Edit: Were you around when Cale Nuske was in his prime? You remember seeing him skate any rails and gaps since? Kinda proving our point by showing clips of a guy who used to primarily hit rails and gaps, and isn't very old, and now he skates very low impact. His career ended when he got hurt. If that's not proving our point I don't know what is. If the injury was no big deal, why did his career end? You also used Arto as an example - well guess what? The main reason you stopped seeing coverage from him was... dun dun dun, INJURY. He transitioned into focussing more on photography because he couldn't skate like he used too. You gotta be young or something, really, Watido.

You said "can't skate anymore," and I disagree and gave examples of people skating. What the fuck you keep gaslighting me over what skaters I know, hella dumb.
Even Cardiel got an ad of a front 5-0 and Boulala got on a board at the end of his Vice interview, so whatever, you're wrong. People can still skate, there's growing evidence you can skate well into your 40's, 50's, and 60's.
Edit: Also this is a 20+ page thread giving medical advice based on style which is insanely stupid. If it wasn't such a dorky kid with a toxic father you guys would be like he's going to have the best career! LOL[close]
i ve had 9 knee surgeries in total all on the same knee...2 real big ones 3 big ones and the rest cleanups and the like... but i ve been without acl and mcl for almost a decade... first blew it out in 95 when i was 17...
i m still skating and learning new tricks though- i also gotta say people especially doctors want to put it in your mind that you can t skate anymore... my experience is that the body adapts to anything if you put it in the situation and invest the time
Yeah, you take things too literally so there's not much point in discussing this with you. If you think Cardiel and Boulala are "still skating", then you truly don't understand what I'm talking about. I'm not even sure what you're trying to argue.
You gotta be young or something, really, Watido.[close]

I'm telling you straight up my friend, I know former pros and many other skaterswho can't skate anymore because they focussed on doing big shit when they were younger.[close]
I'm replying to your statement of "CANT SKATE ANYMORE." Now you're saying they can't skate the way they used to? LMAO...no kidding? No one can do anything like they used to, people get old.

I would not doubt in my mind the opposite of what I'm saying which sadly would be a horror story. Like a 6 year old ollieing a 10 stair, slips and their knee bone breaks through their skin and the bone shoots through the knee pads with blood everywhere and they have to get their leg amputated at the knee.

All good. My point was not about going big young vs old, my point was about the long term effects of high impact skating at any age, and with Trae specifically, I’m talking about his technique which does not appear to be the proper way to take impact. Not trying to hate on you or bully you, c’mon.
I have a little thread going on a different platform regarding this query and there’s a lot of guys regretting the high impact stuff because they’re hurting now. Sheldon Meleshinski was one of the more notable guys who said his career was cut short by a knee injury, but I already knew that. Same with Hastie, and lots of others. Both of those guys can still do low impact skating but their careers ended due to injury, specifically. Lots of friends chiming in saying they regret the high impact stuff. I know at least two guys off the top of my head who would have been big if knee injuries hadn’t cut their chances short - Ben Demoskoff and Dave Miskowicz. Remember Josh Kasper? Injury ended his ability to keep skating at a pro level.
I guess we’re just talking about different things. I’m not the guy claiming people are going to be in wheelchairs. I’m just agreeing with those who are saying this kid might be taking more risk than necessary by doing basic shit down giant gaps that have had much harder stuff done them already, you know? Like, why risk a major injury that could change your life to do other people’s warm up tricks on blown out spots? And for the long term, there’s a good chance he won’t have a long career if he keeps hucking, and he may end up with life long pain from it.

First bolded part - Reynolds doesn’t skate high impact anymore, and also has not had a major injury that I’m aware of. So yes, somewhat of an exception. Hell, plenty of pros have commented on his unique ability to push his high impact skating longer than lots of others. Reynolds pretty much scaled it back after Stay Gold, which was 10 years ago. What pros who are 40 are skating high impact? Not saying they don’t exist, must be one or two... so let me know who you’re referring to.
Second part - every person is different. I’d say the people who escaped serious injury are obviously doing better than those who got broke off. Motivation plays a role too. Some guys are just down to skate through pain and keep risking it when others may take a serious injury as a sign to mellow out. Some people straight up quit after a serious injury. It takes a lot of patience, strength and commitment to keep skating at the same level after a serious injury. That’s why it’s far more common for people to keep their skating mellow after one. The risk of re-injuring is high.

This. One mcl strain that put me out for a month or so was enough for me to realize that if I can't ollie up it, I'm not gonna ollie down it. The difference was my psycho dad wasn't there calling me a pussy and screaming at me to try it again.
And it was only 7 stairs, not 20 ;D
Expand QuoteExpand QuoteYup clowns I know many that have blown out their knees and torn ACL, MCL, twice on both knees, rehabilitated and are ripping now.
Ask a medical expert about pre-teens and their bones, unless you are scared to.[close]
Are you 15? Lol.
If he continues on that path for much longer, he will be feeling it for the rest of his life, trust me. I barely fucked with gaps and rails and at 43 my body is a painful wreck, but I can still skate because I kept it more low impact most of the time.
But yeah - hit us with links to these rippers who blew both knees twice and are still ripping on the same level. Love to see it. That's inspiring. Something tells me you made that up though.[close]
Damn dude you're a headache...You are acknowledging I'm specifically talking about a certain age range when you're being general about big gap skating. There is no need to argue when talking about two different things, and you know we are?!? Jeeze.
It is cringy as fuck to watch a 6 year old scorpion down a 15 stair, so I reached out to someone in children medicine. Once I learned it's not as big of a deal as slap makes it out to be, it's no big deal to watch the footy now, for me. I've got little huckers in my area so I was definitely curious instead of jumping to the conclusion without any medical advice.
I also don't argue pounding my chest like you weirdos. So if you want to debate and not argue like a jock asshole, present some medical info on children skating high impact terrain. I'm told if they break a growth plate there will be problems, otherwise it's better at that age than when you're older. But if there's medical advice to wait to hit massive shit til you're x years old because of your bones then I'm interested. If it's just they gotta wait til they're more well rounded skaters then this debate is corny as fuck lol. I'm not scouting any fucking 9 year olds lmao.
As for the thread, I'm not that interested in Trae's skating compared to the rest of y'all. But I guess I would like people to understand in general groms hitting big gaps or ramps is no big deal other than amazing how young they are.
I'm having a brain fart on pros/ams who came back from knee surgery. That would be a good thread. I also can't think of anyone personally that absolutely can't skateboard after years of skating and injuries. Which I'm completely fine with your experience in life with "who you know" is different than mine lol.

As a parent of a D1 gymnast I can tell you I hope skating never becomes anything like gymnastics. I too feel bad for this kid, cause like for my daughter, the fun looks to be stripped away and replaced with a feeling of obligation. I don't really know shit about gymnastics, but once you're at the D1 level it's pretty much guaranteed you'll never be on the olympic team, right? So what's the point of continuing to do gymnastics at the collegiate level?

Expand QuoteExpand QuoteI dunno, kinda reminds me of those gymnast girls thinking they'll be olympians and waste their childhood years learning how to be like "adults"
someone said something interesting that a lot of those mickey mouse club kids fronted as if they were wholesome, when in reality they were doing crazy drugs and lived and most never became role models for future kids.[close]
As a parent of a D1 gymnast I can tell you I hope skating never becomes anything like gymnastics. I too feel bad for this kid, cause like for my daughter, the fun looks to be stripped away and replaced with a feeling of obligation. It’s sad to me that when gymnastics is on TV my daughter rarely will sit down and watch it. It’s not that she doesn’t enjoy it, it just becomes overload at a certain point. Shame on the tanks Dad, who’s clearly a knob trying to live vicariously through his son.[close]
I don't really know shit about gymnastics, but once you're at the D1 level it's pretty much guaranteed you'll never be on the olympic team, right? So what's the point of continuing to do gymnastics at the collegiate level?

Its crazy, I coach high school sports, we actually play Weymouth where that player in the Real Sports segment plays for, its insane the amount these kids play. There are rules in place at the Massachusetts level stating that they cannot play for multiple teams while in season, but they all pretty much play on at least one other team during season. It is just that horrible idea that I must play D1 and that scouts "go see my club team." Legit so toxic, it is really weird phenomenon where tbh these kid's high school team is less stressful than their club teams....
I didn't hate that. Company name is low hanging fruit and the music was pretty lame, helmet is whatever, but he's not untalented.
Real question from a lifelong low impact skater:
the way Trae lands his bigger stuff, like almost leaning/crouching/rubber-banding his legs upon impact...does that have a beneficial or detrimental effect on his knees in the long run? Basically, is it a technique or just bad/awkward form? Or are his knees already shot and that's just how it is for him now?

What we don't see is Trey's dad makes him do each trick multiple times, after every land making him chug a different energy drink as to solidify that energy drink sponsorship.
Even though we all know Trey's dad already has a huge Monster logo on his truck next to the Famous Stars and Straps logo and the Kottonmouth Kings emblem.

I was wondering why this thread was bumped.... Holy smokes. I struggle with the idea of my child skating (he's 13 months so it's a long way away ((8 more months.)) If I was pushing him past his limits and I heard him shout, "I broke my leg!!!" I would highly reconsider my involvement with his skating. Go break your leg by yourself but I don't want any record of me shouting, "you got this!!!" as I film with my Samsung Galaxy 6.

In looking for loopholes in the sponsorship pipeline, Trae’s dad noticed that Jim Thiebaud gives Real guest boards and coverage to hospitalized children.

13 months is a good age to start your kid off on massive drops. The low center of gravity and Michelin Man legs should absorb a large amount of impact. Also, Independent makes a onesie that is just darling.

Why the fuck are Santa Cruz endorsing it? They have seemingly normal people working in association with them like Kevin Braun and joe Perrin. Does no one step in a tell a TM that they shouldn’t be endorsing this?

He’s been off of Santa Cruz for a bit it seems like, but still on a bunch of other NHS shit. I’d bet a dollar that his dad blew that deal up.
The kid looks like he’s kind of growing up, and it seems like his dad is still writing his captions for him like it’s an account for the family dog.
Giving Tray's dad a run for his kid's moneyNGL, this kinda makes Mad Dog Montgomery look like a soft-ass mofukka.

My 6-year-old wanted to try skateboarding so I put together a complete out of old parts and told him tricks aren't important, just learn how to push and roll around and turn and tic tac a bit. Even that was too frustrating for him compared to riding his mountain bike or scooter so I just encourage those activities instead despite it also breaking my heart a little buying him a 'pro' style scooter for Christmas to replace his shitty little toy razor one but I'm not going to be a dick about it. I still bring his board out with us often or let him steal mine and practice pushing or just get some good buttboarding in. I might give another gentle nudge toward skateboarding when he's older if he still shows interest in it but I don't know how anyone could be as overbearing as some of these lunatic rad dads as you all call them.

I had one of those shitty sims boards with the plastic trucks growing up and didn't get my first complete till I was about 8 years old but I was more or less in the same position as your son. But no one was trying to force it on me, the board was just there and I finally picked it up out of my own self interests after a while. I also messed around on razor scooters too, but it was just that early 2000s time period, who didn't as a kid. I think what made me really get into skating was going to the skate shop and picking out my own complete. But I wouldn't invest in a new complete until he shows some sort of real solid interest. I know picking out my first deck and complete really set the fire for my skating interest as it just clicked that "this was my skateboard!"
