If you’re ever in need of a good laugh head right over to the SLAP boards. It’s non-stop over there.
One of the on-going chats is about the Jason Dill / AVE and Fucking Awesome beef with Steve Berra and The Berrics. Whether it’s still going or not is up in the air as some of the FA kids have been skating The Berrics lately, but that’s besides the point. Just like in Rap, there’s not much more entertaining than a good ol’ fashioned skate beef. It looks like it started back in the Alien Workshop days which they were all a apart of at one point. The cool guys – AVE, Dill, and Dylan – got Steve Berra kicked off. For good reason too – he doesn’t skate. Anyway it goes on from there, even including Steve’s association with Scientology and how he can’t even mall grab correctly, but the best part is hearing about Dylan’s confrontation with Berra at a Street League contest.
Dylan was just too cool for this world.

My whole thing with Berra getting kicked off is that he doesn’t skate. I don’t have a problem with his Scientology. My whole thing is, ‘You don’t fucking skate, you don’t ride for The Workshop.’ We’re trying to revamp the team where it’s just fucking skate and everybody rips, everyone works hard and hits the streets every day and he wasn’t doing that. So I was like, ‘Yeah, kick the dude off.’
So I’m skating up and down this bank ramp and he’s standing right there so I’m like, ‘I’m going to say what’s up to this dude.’ I was like, ‘What up, Steve?’ and he looks at me and is like, ‘Really? Really dude? You’re going to shake my hand?’
I’m like, ‘Yeah, you’re standing here. I’m trying to be cordial. Really dude? You’re this butt hurt over the whole Workshop thing?’
He looked at me and says, ‘Keep walking, bro.’ He told me to keep walking. I was so blown away. That was it; it wasn’t a full screaming match. I just thought it was really immature. You got kicked off a team, we’ve all been kicked off, don’t take it personal. But I hear so many stories about him just being a little fucking bitch. It’s funny; he shuns me because I’m younger than him and then he runs into Dill and AVE and they pretty much shut him down. He’s all nice to them. He treats me like shit but he’s scared of them so he treats me like a little kid.

Oh, of course. They thought it was hilarious. Dill calls him out all the time. I know Dill has run into him a couple times and Berra tried to shake Dill’s hand and Dill just looked at him and was like, ‘Nope.’ It’s great.

I miss Steve Berra's skateboarding, yes.
Great bs flips as everyone knows, but his style in general deserves a bit of a mention for appreciation. Even in his rare Berrics BATB or other appearances it was always nice seeing him on a board.
I don't rewatch this part often, but it's one of my favs of his. The half cab flip bs flip (that he would later go on to best in Mindfield), the 360 flip @1:56 and the ender kickflip 5050 are still great.

I've always been a defender of this part and won't stop anytime soon. The vitriol around the fake spots was so ridiculous (I remember seeing people decry it as duplicitous in some way) considering how open both Colin Kennedy and Berra were about it as well as the thought process behind it.
When I realised some of the spots were modified and added to how they were, I didn't feel deceived. I mean I'd already suspected the kicker to loading dock was a wooden ramp given the noise- but it all made the part more interesting to rewatch.
There's a clip with a flip nosemannual then a fs flip over a gap; the manual pad is just a plank of wood propped up by bits and pieces and doesn't have any set dressing like another manual pad in the part with some brickwork and lighting (pretty sure that one was part of the Berrics precursor). That's the one "fabricated" spot clip I dislike, and it's when it's obvious its a set up part to the spot.
Idk, I could probably waffle on about this more but instead I'll just encourage you to watch the two parts and see if you enjoy them.

I wouldn't say I miss his skating but I did enjoy it. His tre flips had a unique flow to them. I liked his Skatemore part despite the spot fabrications. He skated those spots with nice style and stringed together lines really well.
I def don't miss his personality. The way he mislead and gaslit The Hyphenate was a pretty shitty mark of character. He also at times, comes across as insincere when speaking at BATB games.

Always funny to me how everyone loves Heath but hates Berra - when they’re close friends and stuck together on board sponsors most their career. They both rip. I miss Berra like the one time I had hemorrhoids, paired with a rash.
The momentary intense relief from a fart scratching that itch was incomparable, but looking back it was pretty fucking miserable.

In a way I miss Steve Berra as a pro skater but that's more because I miss that era. The End-era was a great time, at least for me it was.
