Hadn’t heard of Jeremy Klein in 2 years I believe and now he is all artsy. At one point he had a post up there that was just pictures he took of his dry cleaning reciepts and someone was seriously asking for full prints or scans I’m not 100 percent sure. I understand art is subjective but fuck if dry cleaning slips are considered “art” where is the line drawn? Not that any of this is bad at all but from how Jeremy presented himself doing things like selling his boards with anamie girl graphics at a korean bbq joints (I’m pretty sure if it wasn’t Korean bbq don’t kill me) to becoming a New York art hipster it just seemed to come out of nowhere
EDIT: I found my answer on this thread. Someone told me I was confusing Jeremy Klein and Jeremy elkin. That is why I thought Klein became a New York hipster.

He’s reached the age where all white men become invisible/irrelevant
-
Up until a couple years ago he was regularly posting clips on IG but now it's just occasional product posts. I wonder if he's still skating as much.
-
I'm pretty sure he's still in socal just running hookups and jkindustries full time and skating in his free time. He hasnt posted anything in a few weeks, but almost all the decks on both websites are sold out. I would assume he's slowed down production because of the pandemic.
-
Just bought my Bros a couple decks and sets of wheels for their birthdays. Shipped out quick and even threw in some free stuff. Personally emailed me too thanking me for my order. I see product drops from time to time with shops, if you check the hookups IG tagged posts, hooks ups/jk industries product is out there just seems to do business with select shops. The BBS wood is very good from what I've seen. Might get a Deck myself later on to try.
-
He just makes big titty anime girl boards now.
-
He’s still ripping as hard as he ever was. And making great boards that are screened at Squeeges. Positively not gone “artsy” just one of the few skaters who never changed who they were since Rubbish Heap. If you go back and read any interviews he’s always been into making things. He was the creative director for Birdhouse for years etc. so back to the drawing board for you. Maybe you’re thinking of Dill?
-
there's a small legion of anime nerds that hate him, and give him flack in the comments section. This probably why they're off. A lot of early hookups traced(or referenced) from Japanese shit that was more obscure in pre-internet culture. He doesn't want that heat
dream girl, for example, is from the game gear game psychic world... obviously a not well-known game.

In that era a lot of graphics, especially World, were blatant rip-offs. Hence all the cease and desist letters.

Jermey Klein is the sort of creep that would have been in Epstein’s flight logs.

Nothing, but yet it’s still true. Is there anything more ugh than middle-age white guys?

He was looking fairly proper in that Greco/Sinko piece a few years back.

A pretty slick Rubbish Heap deck signed by Jeremy Klein.

Where all white STRAIGHT men. If he was homosexual he'd just be tapping into daddy status and getting laid several times a day if that was what he was into.

Sounds like transitioning into a homosexual sometime in your 40s is a good way to tap into life... Noted.

I legitimately didn't know that dream girl was a straight up rip of.
That's kind of lame and cool at the same time he was able to create an entire company of of biting shit.

like I said I never knew him on a personal level maybe he has always been this way, he didn’t seem to care too much about east coast skating and hip hop as much as it seems with his new documentary coming out. A documentary complete with a book of pictures from the looks of it and being entered in TriBeCa film festival. Wasn’t he on the west coast during most of that time with world and birdhouse? Yes it seems to mention la too but look at all the names in the video. It is mostly east coast heads including Rosario Dawson but he didn’t live out there. Is all of this combined With him just taking pictures of his dry cleaning reciepts not “artsy”.

Homophobia
-
Bought a few decks from him the last 2 years. Quality was top notch. Was 100% better than a Traffic deck I had. Mostly 8.25s now. I max out at 8 so yep. But , would buy again

Homophobia
And was bros with Dan Rogers early in Roger's social climbing career. Probably the reason dude was able to be "pro" on Birdhouse.

Klein is problematic. He’s an O.G. World dude who always ripped, went fast and did big tricks, and was homies with Ron Chatman but he also jerks off to anime, lives on candy, is a homophobe, and is somewhat responsible for introducing Greco to the world.
-

Same wood bub
Once a park owner thought I was Jeremy Klein, fanned out and let me in for free, gave me a free park shirt after session cuz mine was sweaty. Next time I came back I was expecting the pro treatment again so I wore basically the same thing and same dude charged me and totally didn’t “recognize” me, so I never went back.

I don’t see how posting dumb pictures of your dry cleaning trying to pass it off at art isn’t a hipster, I don’t see how having a film in the tribeca film festival included with an art book isn’t hipster. As for New York his last 9 posts are all black and white and tagged New York. We get it everyone is on lockdown u don’t need to tag where u are everytime. Also every photo being in black and white, old photos of Harold hunter huf and a pic of rb umalis old cassette footage don’t help his case of not being artsy. His posted some New York plates saying next mars this morning then him skating some crowded park in nyc. And the film he has coming out focuses on hip hop and skating from 87-97, I haven’t seen it yet but from all the guests he has including Ricky oyola, Rosario dawson rb umali and a bunch of ny heads makes me believe he is focusing on New York mainly in that time period but he was in so cal filming with birdhouse and world during those times so I don’t see why he would be the person to make a documentary on that subject. That is where I am “pulling this New York hipster thing from” is this not acts of a ny art hipster?

Well, the Traffic deck was a flexy piece of trash, which disappointed something fierce. Love Traffic. Would still buy Traffic to support Rick. Had other Traffic that were great but that one board sucked. I mentioned it as I went from 2 great JK decks to that flexy board and was sad

Jeremy's been a favourite of mine since his World days.

Best Fastplants, ever.

Hi Jeremy
We're all a little Jeremy.
-
I just remembered that Jerry Hsu said his favorite Asian skater of all time is Jeremy Klein. So that's worth something.
-
I have love for almost anyone who truly does not give a shit what other people think about them and you can't knock his skating.
That edit he did with Greco was cool, too.
-
That interview just screams “2001”.
Also his part in “The Beginning” is still one of the worst parts of all time.
-

Well, his haircut does.
Oh come on, there are dozens upon dozens of parts worse than 'The Beginning'.
Tough to follow up 'The End', it was always going to be lesser than, but still a good part.
Dude was in his what, mid 30's? Back then?
-
Was he the first person to ollie the Carlsbad gap?
-
I hope they put on his gravestone (after a long happy existence) "Great skater - he was no Willy Santos, but he was a great skater"
-
Was he the first person to ollie the Carlsbad gap?
I was wondering same thing.
I think he was the first to flip out? Of a noseslide? But he did it as a joke or something?
Also his backside smith on a handrail in Rubbish Heap was so far ahead of its time he must have used a time machine.
Love his skating, amused that he is essentially the same skate rat / video game nerd / candy eater that he's been for 30+ years, but he comes across perhaps challenging
-
Did Jeremy ever do any Evangelion decks? I would buy one
Felt like he was always just taking graphics from the Gundam style
Hookups honestly feels kinda fake sometime with its preferred anime art style and what it uses, like it's some old american guy cosplaying as a weeb

He definitely fornicates with plushies.

there's a small legion of anime nerds that hate him, and give him flack in the comments section. This probably why they're off. A lot of early hookups traced(or referenced) from Japanese shit that was more obscure in pre-internet culture. He doesn't want that heat
dream girl, for example, is from the game gear game psychic world... obviously a not well-known game.

no Jeremy is a bitch about it. It is because people mention he stole his logo. I saw someone ask why his comments were off on older posts so I mentioned this mans theory and was blocked.

At the beginning of this thread you didn’t know the difference between Jeremy Elkin and Jeremy Klein. Of course he blocked you. You’re an idiot.

since when does dyslexia mean you are an idiot? Also all I did was comment saying he probably turned off comments because people call him out about tracing a graphic. How would that indicate that I am stupid enough to block? You are saying I’m so dumb of course I was blocked because I confused Jeremy Klein and Jeremy elkin but he had no way of knowing that himself so I don’t see why he would block me for that. Are you Jeremy? Lol

About 5 years ago he asked what kind of Hook-Ups apparel would people buy. I said I’d for sure buy a Hook-Ups 5 panel hat. Then he absolutely fucking lost it. I come back to 3 paragraphs about how he hates 5 panels and they’re ruining the industry, yadda yadda, as if his shitty thermal prints do anything to contribute. Mind you this is when Huf is fucking massive and 5 panels are everywhere. You can see why this guy is choked. Then fucking Jeremy Wray chimes in and calls me an idiot so I unfortunately had to call the legend out on his shitty Wray Bro’s brand. My back was against the wall and two legendary Jeremy’s had me cornered (thankfully not Ron Jeremy), so I had no choice but to block them because they continued with paragraphs as responses.

Heard he was working at Nintendo Power
Jeremy did work for Nintendo Power at one point in the 90's. They used to have a phone line that you'd call if you needed tips on how to beat games and he was one of the operators giving these tips for NES games.

Are 5 panel hats still in existence? Is the industry? He might have had a point.

He's disabled all comments on instagram. My guess is he kept getting harassed by sissies bitching about objectifying women in graphics or some stupid shit.
more like he got sick of blocking every single person that might have said something remotely non-Hetero. Our very own Tae owned him so hard in the comments one time that I chuckling to myself for days...
Shit do you have a screenshot of that?
I’d doubt he kept the comment up for long, but I did keep a copy of it for SLAP lore:
“Hugging Steve Caballero isn't gay. Okay, think about it like this; people are made up of 3D atoms, and when you die your 3D atoms go off and become other things. This means that every girl would most likely be made up of 3D atoms that were once in a dude, so if you bang her you are technically banging a dude, and that's fucking gay. Which is why I stick to your 2D anime artwork Klein, because women should embody the spirit of the Yamato Nadeshiko type of character. Loyal, obedient and always happy to see you 💯💯💯"

I rented that from the skateshop when it was new and dubbed a copy onto a blank VHS.
My impression then, as it is now, was that Jeremy's part was kind of a lark--dated skating from a rider of yesteryear. I think that part got better with age. Those Ollies were huge, especially on such tiny wheels.
Willy Santos's part was seriously next-level.
I know it's credited as a '93 release but it was definitely early in the year because I remember watching it on repeat waiting for snow to melt.

Love the Heath/ Jeremy era but I've always suspected that Jeremy wanted to (and has) stayed the same, and Heath got into other things (motorcycles and whatever) and kinda moved on to do his own thing.
I also found it weird that they spoke of the Beagle era in Heath's epicly later'd but not the Jeremy era at all? Whack.

Agreed and agreed.
Klein is the most unchanged skater I can think of. Exactly the same as when he was am on World Industries. Which might be the biggest compliment you could give him. He's an entity.

My guess is that at the time no one was ever near close to being on the same level of skating as Heath and thus he gravitated more towards JK because JK wasn't all caught up in tech ledge skating like a lot of skaters were.
They always seemed like an odd couple imho and I couldn't really imagine them having anything in common other than their desire to do big shit and wreck stuff. Maybe that was enough?
Or maybe it was like Flavor Flav and Chuck D dynamic and then one day Heath woke up realized that he didn't want to hang out anymore with a guy that wore big clocks around his neck (or in Heath's case: he didn't want to hang out with middle-aged weaboo that was still stuck 91 and absolutely refused to evolve anywhere beyond his teenage self)? as the poster up there mentioned: if you we’re going to compliment JK for anything -other than his skating in the early 90s- it would be for his stubbornness to remain exactly who he was when he first broke into the industry

A lot of current manga / manga isn't as edgy as the 80s -90s, there are some good adult titles but nothing hits like the female protagonists in battle angel, black magic m66, appleseed, or ghost in a shell.
Beserk and Gantz are the only titles I can think of that hits that hard

And here, for my contribution to this thread, is the obligatory response…
I saw Jeremy Klein at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
-
Probably still mad at the Boss for skating with his shirt off (while simultaneously masturbating to said image)

I always found Jeremy Klein's commentary on the End DVD hilarious, even though some of it was probably pretty off (it's been a long time since I saw it).
Sometimes I enjoy people being arseholes, if I met him and he was a nice guy it would ruin the idea I have of him being an arsehole, albeit an entertaining one.

He’s probably lived there for 20+ years. In his 411 it looked like he lived in a fake fancy socal condo. It’s probably his retirement at this point, property value is probably 10x from when he bought it.
There was also a period where he was eating at the same Chinese restaurant in SGV every night and you could pick up your board/product from him There that you bought. Not sure if he still does that.

Back in the MySpace days he hooked up with this girl I know and he flew her up to LA to stay with him for like a week, she’s half Asian with big ass titties in case you’re wondering.
His catalog as far as his Rubbish Heap part and The End part are unfuckwithable, definitely a legend for those two alone but his commentary on The End DVD were cringe worthy then and they sure as fuck are today.
I’m a middle aged whites dude that’s into Japan and Asian chicks myself but I have to draw the line already, this dude is a fucking kook nowadays and Hook Ups been wack for like 25 years and I’ve never seen a Hook Ups deck in the wild, ever.
-
I heard he's side slippin benches on simulated street courses.
-
Well one of those LA Kids' bought a deck with a Rebuild of Evangelion character on it so JK also bites from the new(ish) stuff too. I guess there's my answer. Shoutout Hockey kid
-
Probably still mad at the Boss for skating with his shirt off (while simultaneously masturbating to said image)
AYOOO?
-
Does anyone know if he buys or trades retro games?
I wonder if a TurboGrafx-16 is worth a box of decks?
-
just went on this dudes website and saw he's selling some boards with naked anime girls
given this information, why the fuck do you care what happened to him

If you really have them you might wanna pump the breaks on trading off any TurboGrafx/PC Engine games. At one point there were some of the most valuable retro games. Sell the games on eBay and buy your own box?

Still in the closet jacking off to footage of Reynolds skating with his shirt off

why so much hating on him?He ripped and was a street pionner.

Jeremy Klein doesn't give a fuck what anybody thinks about him and he isn't afraid to do what he wants to do. I'm not a fan of the hentai stuff, but a lot of people are and it doesn't affect me so let them enjoy it.
Without people like him the world would be a more boring place.

The Birdhouse team did a commentary track over The End. Reynolds has a line he filmed shirtless and Jeremy starts loudly complaining that he doesn’t wanna look at a shirtless guy and his muscles, in a weirdly homophobic projection of what I assume he’s repressing. not sure about the jerking off thing, probably a joke.

Bought a board last year he signed it. Super mellow transaction
-
Probably mentioned this before... Klein's skating was awesome and influenced me immensely..
so I have bought a few boards from him and he signed a poster (the triple bench ollie) for me.
Very chill transaction. And the boards are good quality also (I got a few of his old Birdhouse graphics)
Actually, his boards and Business & Co. decks are the best boards I've used in the last 5 years
-
Would be funny to find out that Jeremy has never actually had sex with an Asian woman.

I wouldn't be surprised if the only instances of that occuring were both mellow and chill transactions of their own.

I have a soft spot for Hook Ups because I thought it was cool when I was 12, but Jeremy Klein is an asshole.

Did he ever actually work for Nintendo and Sega and in anime or was that just another made up story?
As far as Jeremy kleins parts go they're still all real good and interesting to see someone's body movements who never really bothered with switch and nollie.
-
Dude was gnar AF. Solid back 3s, boosted ollie's, crazy stunts, and skated to great songs (Cocteau Twins, MBV, Frank Black).
Paid his dues FR.

He’s still lurking around OC. I see him skating the local curb spot every now and then. He’s still got it.
Ran into him at a sushi spot in Irvine and he bought me and my friend shots of sake since my friend was wearing an akira shirt.

He was a fucking game tester. Trying to make it sound like he’s a consultant hah
-
Yeah. My brother was a game tester like eh 1998-2004. I think he got mentioned in some game credits and got to try a game for free, believe that was it
-

There’s no way he draws any of this stuff.
-
i was a game tester for 2 years, it was actually pretty dope. i liked a lot of the people i worked with. we played smash bros, street fighter, all types of shit on lunch break. also, there were like 3 people hired just to make the lunches every day. the head chef owned a catering business, and everything was served buffet style. It wasn't free but it was so insanely reasonable, it was like $25 a month or something for the meal plan, all you can eat. they also threw dope ass christmas and summer parties with amazing prizes, free booze. I really miss working there.
the pay was not great though. it was not really enough i could save up to buy a house. the job i went to afterwards was almost double...

I love Slap cause someone like JK who's made pretty much his entire career from skating and is still doing it successfully, gets ridiculed. For the past what almost 30 years he's owned the his own company, creates his own graphics and art, still continues to skate, does pretty much whatever he wants. Dude doesn't kook it with wack brand endorsemensts or beg for sponsorships like many other aging pros do and lives on the downlow.

i love slap cause someone with a Don Vito avatar can think criticism of all of the kook shit associated with jeremy klein can be invalidated because he runs a company and still skates. and he doesn't create his own graphics, a lot of the hook-ups graphics are by sean cliver or ripped off from anime/manga.

You're right, he doesn't kook it with whack brand endorsements, but instead chooses the road less traveled and does it with extremely poor taste graphics. I thought that shit was questionable when I was like, 12.

I also thought the aesthetic was lame growing up. Hook-Ups seemed like graphics for horny nerds and I always kinda laughed at their boards. However, as a lot of us know, anime is all the rage among this generation and has been for like 10 years. And as horny and nerdy as it is, JK hasn't changed anything he's been doing and it's still successful. I've never thought about buying a Hook-Ups board in my life and I'm not sure I ever would in the future.
But I mean, dude was in The End on fire with Heath. Hangs with current Greco. Dresses pretty cool and looks good on a skateboard. Anime porn isn't my deal either, but the dude seems cool / interesting.
And what company in skateboarding history doesn't rip-off old shitty past advertisements, corporation logos, cartoons, literally everything is taken from somewhere else. Even Quasi has a recent board out that looks like a Dill collage that looks like Dash Snow art

Everything in skateboarding is borrowed. Nothing wrong with that.
I mean even Quasi is just AW whole aesthetic diluted and repeated.
AW being one of the only truly original brands.

Ever wake up one day and think to yourself “today is the day I vouch for a guy whose career was made from jacking off to hentai”
-
I don’t think anyone on here is really denying his skills on the board, his legacy, nor the fact that he runs a brand out of his garage. Hell, even Mike V has those three things under his belt too and he’s not exempt from criticism.
JK’s robot girl deck was iconic at the time, but being an openly homophobic weaboo well into adulthood is just not a good look; some things should just be left behind in your teenage years!

According to an IG story, Jeremy Klein was took Tony Hawk and Steve Berra out to Korean BBQ in the last few days. Thought it was funny that he was hanging with the likes of Steven.
Being friends with Steve Berra, at one end of the spectrum of skateboarding and also being friends with Greco, almost at the opposite end.
