for me it's ZIGRAM23 the first cyborg skater.

Jake Duncombe

Cross would have been

Pappas
-
Wade Burkitt.

it has gotta be shane.
lewis, dollin and dennis durrant worth mentioning though

Matt Mumford or Dollin

Chima
Lots good Aussies, but I’ll stick with him.
Shane is at that Daewon level where he’s doesn’t really get counted in things like this for me.
Always loved Dollin, but best would be stretching it.
-
Me, probably
-
Shane cross
-
My personal favorite is either Callum Paul or Dean Palmer
-
Lewis Marnell. RIP
-

That's fair.

Look at how many tricks his done on that library Bank.

Facts
-
Dollin is wild. Also love Boserio.
Jack O Grady is quickly becoming one of my favorites in this last year.
-
Jackson Pilz is amazing.
-
Jackson Pilz is amazing.
Dang excellent call; it’s way too easy to forget about incredible skaters these days.
Kickflip over a bump to bar in a Volcom video (I think?) is shocking. Also crushed on KOTR.
-
Shane O'Neill. Jack O'Grady is the most fun to watch to currently. Chima has always been great too.
-
Wade Burkitt.
Fuckin hell there's a name I haven't heard in a while...

Holy shit did not expect to see Adam Morris name pop up in this thread.
Respect!
My vote goes to Chima.
Good style and trick selection and always put out quality parts every year or two.
-
Shane for most technically skilled.
O’Grady, Dollin, and Boserio for most gnar.
Casey Foley or Phil Marshall for best style.
Callum Paul wildcard/personal fav
Edit: I forgot about Chima. League of his own fa sho

Casey Foley is from New Zealand
-
Japh C
Correct!
Dont think I've seen Mumford pop up yet.
Dollin and Chima have probably the most established US careers and Nugget too I guess. Chima is kind of the quintessential pro, always has good parts with good music, kills it on the board and has never dropped off, has a pro shoe etc
But yeah who am I kidding really it's Jaffa
http://youtu.be/W-G5OLMyhcg
EDIT: just rewatched this part. I always think of his kickflip melon down country road but never remember he does sal flip too. Fark me dead
-
Ok, need a legends division then
Cuzza
Cox
Kaehne
Davo
Cox
Burkitt
Skunk
Kekich
and people always bring up Ryan D and “Spin” Bondar (sp?)

Add Jason Ellis to the list for vert guys.

For real. Fun fact, he ended up with my Cab Dragon I had as a kid, apparently. There was this dude Alex... Smith? I think who was also an early 90s ripper who gave it all away. Anyway, life.
-
Tasty Taz Pappas:
No 1 in the vert world rankings, invented a graphite skateboard, coined the term "fuck hawk" and arrested for poorly smuggling cocaine between the ply in his boards.
-
Shane for most technically skilled.
O’Grady, Dollin, and Boserio for most gnar.

Did not expect to see this name, i thinks hes pretty underwhelming. Especially considering how gnarly he was when he was younger.

Alex Smith was the first guy (and only?) to tre flip into the OG pit at Martin place ... on tiny wheels too! That’s cool that Wade had your board, if you saw him skate it in real life back in the day it was mind blowing; I’ve seen him dent coping!
-
EITHER
Michael “DAVO” Davidson
Or
Alain “BOG” Boglio
There’s so many others from way back that were so dope, Cuzza, Alex Smith, Denereaz, Tierney, Kekitch etc...
But Davo and Al Bog stick out in my mind as the sickest at their time & pretty influential... If you were from Sydney and you went into the city to skate on Sunday you know how sick Davo was, he pretty much ran the city the whole 90’s...
only remember photos of Al, never really saw him skate in real life, did he have a part in the grace vid? Or may be it was the time vid? But yeah, Davo and his crew had the city, and chatswood to a lesser extent, pretty heavily locked down. We used to watch him and Phil Mackie session that westpac 10 in chatswood like it was a 3 stair, all on sub 50mm wheels. He (davo) was a mini-ramp champ before that too, never not ripped!
I have to say the same for Darren Kaehne though, not as well known as some others listed but he’s never not ripped in the 30 or so years I’ve been watching him skate, still aging like a fine wine too 🍷
You can’t talk Sydney skating without mentioning Gordo too!

Stoked to see all the love for Cuzza, Davo and Ben Cox. Especially Ben, he's a few years older than me and when he would turn up to South Newcastle beach skatepark we would whisper to each other"Ben Cox is here" and sit down and just watch him haha, so lame.
Best ever is too hard to say, my favourite Australian new kid is definitely Rowan Davis though. That kids got that 97 Knights shit.
On reflection my post seems routed mostly in homesickness. I haven't been back in 4 years, I should be there now but Corona fucked it up. Could be years before I get another chance.

lucky you! I saw him a handful of times in person and he always looked like he could literally do any trick he tried, he was that comfortable on his board! Him and Wade are neck and neck for 1st place for me.

Skunk in his prime was on another level in terms of being a ATV, maybe a little bit too early to get the shine he really deserved.

i was under the impression AP was living in QLD somewhere still, sunny coast maybe. he did that "duty now!" distribution thing with andy mackenzie but it didn't really go that well.
i have an unpopular opinion - i don't enjoy chima's skating that much. obviously he is a talented skater with great switch back tails. he doesn't excite me and seems to have enjoyed a very secure, almost instant legend status and international acclaim. i think there are plenty of dudes both australian and non-australian who are a hell of a lot more interesting to watch and seem like much more interesting people. is he anyone's favourite skater?
don't hate him, don't think he can't skate, just surprised he's as popular as he is and looks to be sorted for life as a skateboarder.
-

Instant legend status? Dude has been around 20 odd years and has consistently put out awesome footage throughout his career. His parts are always a good mix of tech and gnar and all have had good tunes.
I wouldn't say he's my favourite skater but he is one of 3 or 4 skaters whose personal Instagram's I follow.

I know he's been around forever, I was excited by him when he was 11 and on juice haha. You're not at all wrong in anything you're saying (which you already know). I guess he just slotted in to the US scene swiftly when he did is all I mean and has kind of seemed pretty reputable always in the eyes of skateboarding. He's not the busiest, most in your face skater that's in everything all the time and he never really was. Just seems like a nice ride for an Australian dude that didn't have to be a Dustin character or Shane O'Neil freak.
As I said, don't hate him, am well aware that he rips (hard too!...but so do lots of people). Just not that excited by him. Shit reply on my behalf but i'm quite stoned.

While we are repping Australian skaters i'd like to put a shout out to the Newcastle scene. For a smallish town a few hours north of Sydney it produced a tonne of rippers over the years. Heres a newly edited montage of the crew we filmed back in the day. Including the likes of Ian Gray, Darrell Goodwin, Russell Grundy, Damon Baker and more.

a little on the antithesis side of "best ever australian skaterboarder" but where else are you gonna say these things...
how did chad bartie get so big when no one ever has anything good to say? surely your dad owning a shop or whatever isn't THAT helpful. you could still buy his pro wheel only a few years ago.
how come jack fardell is still like a pro skater with sponsors?
australian skate media has been very kind to QLD skaters. i guess that is/was slam's headquarters. i'm thinking pat dandy, pee wee, jessee noonan, bugs fardell etc. all ok skaters (kind of) but really, not even moderately close to being pro skaters. i realise none of these guys have "made it" but fuck they've taken up space in the landscape of oz skating.
love seeing all those kids that skate for nike. those videos the last few years have been proper. it's about time!
-
Good to see some of the not so usual suspects mentioned in this thread. Jaff! Dave! Wade!
My head says Zigram is the best ever. He's killed it forever, even when he was little nugget, everyone knew he was special. And to find out he had a sketchy home life makes his rise even more impressive.
Meanwhile my heart says Buzza... the most talented skateboarder I ever saw in person. Bonus points for being such a dropkick - including the tales of robbing sponsors and getting into fistfights with The Muska while in the US to pick up sponsors.

What became of Jack Crook? I used to love watching this part when I was younger and seeing spots I skated all the time get absolutely murdered.
Jack plays in bands and works. Think he still skates a bit. Was always a natural on a skateboard and a really down to earth guy.
Here's a not so serious part of him from a local vid we made

a little on the antithesis side of "best ever australian skaterboarder" but where else are you gonna say these things...
how did chad bartie get so big when no one ever has anything good to say? surely your dad owning a shop or whatever isn't THAT helpful. you could still buy his pro wheel only a few years ago.
how come jack fardell is still like a pro skater with sponsors?
australian skate media has been very kind to QLD skaters. i guess that is/was slam's headquarters. i'm thinking pat dandy, pee wee, jessee noonan, bugs fardell etc. all ok skaters (kind of) but really, not even moderately close to being pro skaters. i realise none of these guys have "made it" but fuck they've taken up space in the landscape of oz skating.
love seeing all those kids that skate for nike. those videos the last few years have been proper. it's about time!
I don't mind Chad's skating, he was definitely good for his time.
Hard to say with Jack though, I would think it due to similar reasons skaters who have a similar amount of footage like Tommy Flynn and Chima Ferguson remain pro . On a side note, I actually feel like his skating used to be a lot more technical (and dare I say fun to watch) before moving to QLD and focusing more on transition, watching this part makes me wish he focused more on street skating -

Thought Appleyard was australian for a good five years.

Although not the best ever, Karl Truell was highly slept on. His part in the PD Dist "5 years at the bottom" video was off the hook.

Tas Pappas is actually the best skater EVER and everybody would know this except Tony ‘Kookman’ Hawk stole the 900 from Tas. Tas is the original inventor of the concept of spinning 900 degrees in the air. Even expert theoretical physicists couldn’t comprehend that anything beyond 720 degrees can physically exist. Skateboarding would not exist without the contributions of Tas ‘Big Cock’ Pappas. And Ben Pappas didn’t murder his girlfriend, Tony ‘Kookman’ Hawk did. This is all true because I watched a documentary on Tas Pappas.

Lots good Aussies, but I’ll stick with him.
Shane is at that Daewon level where he’s doesn’t really get counted in things like this for me.
Always loved Dollin, but best would be stretching it.
maybe not the best, but yeah he’s really fucking good.
