I don't live in Detroit, but I hear that it is increasingly very difficult to skate downtown due to security. At the very least, you need to try Hart Plaza.

and after growing up skating in and on those streets, it's a fucking sin--fuck Dan Gilbert and his cameras and private police force, fuck the urban theme-park that he and his minions have turned downtown into, and fuck "New Detroit"

It's wild. 2012 seemed like the last year I spent skating almost only downtown and it seemed like a switch was flipped.

Edit for shameless plug: If you want to see what it used to be like through my eyes / the eyes of a GL2 on auto and just before Gilbert ruined it...

Skating flatground aimlessly on Fort street for blocks is a thing of the past :(
