Hit up Community Push and People Skateshop on Instagram. They are both run by friendly, community driven people who can help you out.
I don't live in Detroit, but I hear that it is increasingly very difficult to skate downtown due to security. At the very least, you need to try Hart Plaza.

Marble ledges a plenty on Grand River just west of Woodward. Hot spot, foot traffic depends on the day.

Generally, downtown isn’t the best idea anymore. Hit me up on Instagram.

and after growing up skating in and on those streets, it's a fucking sin--fuck Dan Gilbert and his cameras and private police force, fuck the urban theme-park that he and his minions have turned downtown into, and fuck "New Detroit"

It's wild. 2012 seemed like the last year I spent skating almost only downtown and it seemed like a switch was flipped.
Edit for shameless plug: If you want to see what it used to be like through my eyes / the eyes of a GL2 on auto and just before Gilbert ruined it...

Skating flatground aimlessly on Fort street for blocks is a thing of the past :(

Not from there but download the skate savant app. They have a ton of spots on there with pictures and locations. Tons of other cities on there too.

A lot of that is no longer in play. Luckily Detroit is small enough you can get around quickly compared to other big cities.
