Title: alternative bearing lubes?
Post by: OldCandy on July 11, 2020, 09:11:16 PM
hey so I cant traditional bones speed cream or any other type (lithium grease, sewing machine oil, etc)

This is stupid but I'm kinda desperate/broke

I have food grade silicon and Fluid film on hand. Which one would work better or am I better off sticking to dry bearings? (metal-on-metal)

Also what alternatives lubes did you guys use that worked with some success? thanks

olive oil? extra virgin olive oil? bacon grease? knife sharpening oil? hyrdaulic jack oil? motor oil? superglue? lay's chip grease? deodorant? bar soap? pencil shavings? wd40? aloe vera?

Sewing machine oil is tried and true. And cheap for volume.

If those are your only choices, I suppose the silicone. It will slow you down considerably. You may try motor oil if you're desperate. Still slow, but at least it's an oil instead of a grease.

Nah I definitely would not put powder in my bearings.
I think about like an old z roller truck. They made the powder mistake too. It didn't work in the streets really.

Fucking NASA scientist could be like yo way faster dood!!!

Id be like

Powder is going to push the bearings to move side to side on the race.
There's pits and bubbles in cages and races. I see this all the time.
I think it's going to collect in the cage imperfections and cause a crack to form just like crust from ledges and such.

Also what's the effect of wax on the powder?

What happens if it gets wet? Especially brackish river water?

Board goes in what then?

I got to rush to a punk house to borrow a hairdryer to tear down everything put more power in it so it doesn't bust my shit up?

That what I see in my mind is not good for these streets here but I could be wrong?

Let me know though I'm down to learn

You can just try vaseline.

It is cheap, usually lays arround the house and can be helpful when it comes to lubrication.

Try it out and lemme know if it worked.

I would try any graphite lubricant.  I believe dirt and dust doesn't get stuck to it like other lubricants
