Title: @admin, undo the 'expand quote' feature
Post by: ticklefingers on July 29, 2020, 09:11:26 PM
IMO, the "Expand quote" functionality is a degraded experience. It's nice to be able to jump into a random thread and easily read the entire discussion. Can you put it back to how it was? Would be nice if the font size didn't shrink too.

Also, a real solve for this, but would be a major change, would be threaded responses, like in threads Slack or replies in Discourse.

PS.

Often times, when a user adds an image attachment, when expanded, the image can be very large, often wider than the content well or browser. Can you add this css to solve it?
this?

.attachments img {
    max-width: 100%;
}

PPS. the border color between posts on the light mode is really dark compared to the rest of the theme.

:)

I am currently working on an overhaul of the attachments function, and am planning on resolving the over sized img issue as well.

As for the expand quote function, as I mentioned in the "New Feature" global announcement post, you can turn it off in the look and layout section in your profile if you don't like it. My main issue with this is that I posted a topic about the function looking for input and demonstration what it did. I left it up for a week and only heard positive input. So I implemented it. I don't know how to continue to work on and implement new functions on the board if people are unwilling to provide input till after the change is made. Genuinely looking for input to improve the communication/improvements of the boards.

For threaded responses that would require a migration to a completely different system and would be a huge undertaking as there is currently no modifications available which would enable this. Considering that generally any changes I make to the boards are greeted with negative responses it doesn't lead me to believe that a complete systems change would be welcomes by the community.
