Recently had a very fun and nerdy conversation with Tom Knox talking about a discipline he's mastered more than most: line skating.
Tom picked out a selection of his favourite/personally influential lines then I flipped it around and grilled him on a few of his own from 'Eleventh Hour', 'Vase' and 'Atlantic Drift'.
"Once you get into a bad rhythm with a flatland trick it’s so upsetting. I see lines as a percentage game. You can land all these tricks, say, 80% of the time but once you put them together maybe you can land the line about 4% of the time. So you’ve got to try for hours upon hours to link all these things which [separately] you can do consistently." - Tom on lines in general.
"I’m not good enough so I just take what I can get. That’s what makes me skate the way I do. It’s not that I’m ‘choosing’ but because it’s like, “This is all I’ve got.” With him, it’s all there just fucking waiting." - Tom on Mark Suciu.

Another great interview. Has always seemed like a really good dude. Thanks!

This is pretty much the only kind of skate interview i care to read these days -unadulterated skate nerdery. Delicious.

Top stuff as always!
That nick trapasso part is so good too!
Can’t wait for the next part

One of the best skate things I've read in a while. Perfect amount of honesty and depth about a pro's process, articulated without coming across as too over the top or up their own ass. Nice one.
Only thing I will disagree with is he says Dill's line's have never been that memorable. Maybe it's just me but his hooded ditch spot line in Mindfield is pretty iconic, maybe it's his fits in Skatemore that make them memorable to me, those yellow socks boi haha

One of my favorites for sure.
Also,on a sidenote, how amazing is that backsmith on the iceblock photo!?

Really good read. I’ve always enjoyed the lines that Tom and Jake film together, they’re constantly connecting spots in such unique ways. I’ve loved all the videos since I first saw Eleventh Hour so this was awesome to read. Got me so stoked!

This interview and article is absolutely tops in skate journalism. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Seriously, one of the best articles for those who want to dive deep. Tom is so well spoken and thoughtful of his craft.
Definitely bookmarking this article and rereading soon.
