I can’t say I was the biggest Ellington fan back in the days but I love him now.
http://youtu.be/D8ngEVZ0DlA
-
Good watch. Was never a huge EE fan when I was younger either but appreciate him more now. Always super humble and positive
-
Likewise with above, modern day Ellington I'm really into. From the skating to projects to the way he holds himself. The Out There series is really good.
-
Ellington was always the coolest Baker Boy. Still is, too.

These are sort of filling that gap that Epicly Later'd left. Love EE.

The piano rendition of South of Heaven was a nice touch.

awesome

Add me to the list of people that weren't into Ellington bitd, but love him now.

Up there with "Alright gang, let's rock n roll!"
Love EE and how he has always had a non-corny fresh/hesh vibe.
-
He always seemed intimidating but I'm surprised how mellow and approachable he is. The story in the end was crazy. Im glad to see him skating again.

Met Erik ten or so years ago. He was wearing Lakai’s and was nursing some stitches to the face. Apparently from a bar brawl the night before where he had his shoes stolen. Love you Erik you fucking handsome mule.

I distinctly remember seeing his ad for his first Emerica shoe, loving it, and deciding that I would stop at nothing to get that shoe. Been a huge EE fan ever since and have really enjoyed his evolution. The bar story was crazy but glad it motivated him to get sober and improve as a person overall. I wonder when that was, since he was at least drinking a little later than most of the other people in that crew.

Question for americans : Do you see a lot of Supra shoes in the wild ?
-
I had a dream a few years ago that EE came to my local park, i watched from afar but i noticed as he got closer that he was inhumanly tall and had a plastic action figure chest.
i dont know what that means but plastic chest or not Eric fuckin rules
-
I like how Ellington still has the Baker 3 chainsaw. Switch flip switch tails like it's no thing.
-
Erik: *Glasses guy in the face and nearly kills him*

long story short. all my homies know I'm a huge EE fan and always have been. already watched this twice before someone sent it to the group chat to watch and tagged me directly being like, yo it's your boy EE. I posted the thrasher IG post to my story last night w/ EE tagged in it and woke up this morning to a DM from him that said "much love!" If I already wasn't an Ellington fanboy, this fully sealed the deal. Not sure why I felt the need to share this, but here we are.
-
Question for americans : Do you see a lot of Supra shoes in the wild ?
back when they were a thing, yeah
-
Question for americans : Do you see a lot of Supra shoes in the wild ?
I own many pairs of Supras. Currently rocking a pair of Ellingtons right now. I know they have some terrible shoes but also some really good ones. The Cubas are super comfy.
-
I love current EE. That was sick, but if I were him, I would not let the cameras zoom in on my address.
Question for americans : Do you see a lot of Supra shoes in the wild ?
Not anymore, but the Skytops were the current generation's D3 for a bit.

Crazy to hear people weren’t feeling him in his heyday - do you mean Baker 3, TIS era? Cause Misled Youth EE skating to Slayer is absolutely all time to me.

I got into him during Baker 3. Wasn’t too into him before that but probably cause i was more into Crailtap style vids and not anything Zero related.

Same. At the time, I liked clean skating and didn't like how wild his style got. The more we're flooded with generic/forced style, the more I appreciate his loose skating.

Surprised people said they weren't stoked on him. I always thought he was sick. This was really nice. I will watch this again.

This has been my favorite Out There so far, EE is like a really good dude... On a weird side note i live next to the house he grew up in (shown at 6:29 in the video)

I wasn't a big fan of his til I saw an early berrics game of skate, and his flat ground game was incredible. I've looked for it since, but can't comb through all the junk on YouTube forever. Anybody remember the clip I'm talking about?

Have tried googling Erik Ellington battle at the berries?
-
I'm a huge Ellington fan but have never been down for this "I glassed a guy in the face for being annoying... and it was a learning experience for me" bullshit. The turning point isn't "I could have lost all this", it's "I stabbed a person in the face with a glass".
-
No surprises here. EE has always been one of the goats.
This series is so great. Seeing him still trip out on Penny's fs flip over the rail in Huntington was rad.

This. I was as little put off from his style when I first saw it because I'd never seen anybody skate like that but he's just been more and more fascinating as his career has progressed. His Emerica part really made me see the beauty in his skating and he's become one of my favorites. Even the epicly later 'd episode conflicted with how I thought he'd be in everyday life because he's super down to Earth. Level headed. That bar fight shit sounded super crazy though. Dude probably deserved it.

to be fair he didn’t stab anyone in the face, he smashed a glass on someone’s head and the guy got sliced. But yeah didn’t sound like he felt very bad for the guy

That line in the puffy jacket in the PD montage of Baker 2G is one of my all time favorites. I wish they’d reuse the song too.
I wonder what happened to his Brazilian wife Luciana. It’s rare to see fathers get custody, so it always perks my ears up when it happens.
-
Glass smashing aside, is EE a top 5 well-adjusted aging professional skateboarder?

I know people say this about skaters a lot but honestly in my eyes, no-one skates close to how Ellington does. He just does tricks differently, I dunno what it is.
Low key I'm still hoping my facial hair grows out more though cause mine currently looks like EE's haha, anyone here ever used a derma roller?

That was an awesome piece. Been a big EE fan since Baker 3.
-
Like everyone else here pretty much, I wasn't always a huge EE fan but as of late have been really into him and his skating. This video solidified those sentiments. He seems like an awesome person and I back him.
Side note, I DM'd him on Instagram a few days ago to ask him about what he's doing with that Li-ning shoe company. He was very personable and again, seems like an awesome person. He said he's doing a line of skate shoes for them and they're going to be sold through a site he's affiliated with. I don't know what site that is though, but something skate related I'm assuming. It seems like those shoes aren't sold in the usa normally so it takes a little fandangling to get them sold here. If they look decent and aren't $100+ I may grab a pair of I can.

That kind of behavior usually comes from people that are overdue for a reality check. EE obliged. I'm not advocating for anybody getting slashed up but he stood up for himself. That's literally a case of getting bullied in an adult setting. He's no punk and let dude know.

Man cant believe how many of you weren't down for Erik.
Always been on of my favs since first seeing him around the Misled Youth/2g days. Such a unique style both on and off the board and has always had a sick trick selection too
-
Been a fan since I first watched Baker Has A Deathwish and saw him at the Deathwish demo.
Weird how calm and genuine he is. He just seems like the kind of friend you can vibe with and have real conversations with. I like that he asked that random what kind of camera he was using, probably made his day that Ellington cared enough to ask.
-
So Antwuan gets a three year jail sentence for violating his probation and EE doesn’t spend a second locked up after nearly killing a guy. That’s fucked up. I know on his nine club Antwuan said he felt exploited by Baker/Deathwish. The judge gave EE a pass bc of all the good he did in the community, anger management, sobriety, 40 character references oh neat! Perhaps race played a part.

"It's not stabbing". There's a few fucking chumps on this thread who don't know what smashing a glass into the side of someone's head, face and neck physically involves. A lot of cunts who either know nothing of violence or have learnt zip from the violence they have experienced, or done. And self defence doesn't apply when you don't like the way someone talks to you. Talk shit, get glassed, my ass. Ellington will forever be a king of skating but glassing cunts is and will forever be scumbag shit.
Seems like he was bragging about the whole thing honestly. Not sure why anyone would like him more after seeing the potential consequences of such a short temper
People who get in physical altercations are dumb as shit. There's nothing admirable about it. Maybe thousands of years ago it was necessary for survival but today that's just putting your life in danger for no reason.
-
Judge clearly didn't see his Baker 3 ender.

Honestly, it didn't sound like he was bragging about it. It was an experience in his past that he was sharing to explain how he arrived to where he is at now. He didn't sugar coat it but he also didn't glamorize it. It sounded like he took the whole thing seriously. He admitted to throwing up from stress on a regular basis.
That night he smashed the guy in the face he may have felt justified which would explain why he didn't understand what he had done was so serious. It didn't sound like he rewrote his history saying that he was instantly regretful for what he had done. He pretty much explained his whole thought process throughout the situation and onward.
It sounds like he recognized he had issues that he needed help with and got it. Hopefully he really learned from them and changed for the better.
The story doesn't make me like him any more or less. It just gives me a better understanding of who he is.

Nah. He didn't intend to stab anybody. He meant to smash something on a dude's head that was bullying him in a public space. You sound like somebody that hasn't been bullied before honestly. Imagine a bigger dude pulls up on you. Has no problem putting his hands on you. Talking shit to you. Invading your personal space. More or less publicly emasculating you. I'm not advocating for the way Erik stood up for himself but I do advocate him standing up for himself. Clearly he let the alcohol get the best of him and he made a bad decision but he didn't let somebody punk him. Like I said, the other dude needed a reality check. I'm glad a lapse in judgment didn't fuck up his future. Cheers to him. The experience clearly made him better and he's demonstrated that.

After 5 "PTSDesque" events before 30, i can relate to EE on a few levels, eternal gratitude for Erik being a part of professional skateboarding, we are luck to have him.
he's come a long way... people make bad decisions under the influence of drugs and alcohol, who's to say my non violent moves are that much different than other bad decisions i've made while requiring opiates to get out of bed for five years.

Yes, because of the relationship with Krew he was asked to be on the original Supra team. I think riding it out with Soletech was the right move. Early Altamont was sick.

I’ve always been a HUGE EE fan. Top 5 for me for sure and that’s saying a lot with (Reynolds, Penny, Heath and Tony being the other 4). I remember when his first shoe came out I dropped around $200 bills for two colorways without hesitation. To this day, still my fav skate shoe of all time. Glad to see he is doing well and a very humble and grateful guy. That piece was great.

This is really interesting seeing how many people share the same view of Ellington - myself included. For me, I was into cleaner skating and stuff like Girl/Chocolate etc during EE's prime, but when I look back at his parts I like them a lot. I know his dance after the bigspin down Carlsbad gap is legendary but if I had done the picnic table line with the switch flip front tail and amazing flip front nose fakie I think I'd be dancing for days. That's his best ever clip in my eyes.

While my first video was Misled Youth, I grew up mostly a Crailtap and Sovereign sect fan as I found the stylish tech ledge stuff more relatable than the big sets/rail Cali spots of Baker, Flip, Zero, etc, especially compared to the mostly east coast spots that make up a lot of Photosynthesis. Probably also helped I was a big 90's hip-hop fan.
Either way, I still really enjoy EE footage, and the longevity of his career is astounding. Very few have transitioned as well as he and Reynolds have from being known primarily as big gap and/or rail skaters.

EE is the truth. I’ve been very lucky to kick it with him a bunch absorbing those positive vibes.

I got glassed once. I can honestly say that I did not deserve it. The guy didn't do a great job of it though and I sustained minimal injury. A bartender jumped the bar and started beating on him. Funny night.
Just remembered I got glassed in the back of the head once also. It just smashed. No injury. Copped a few punched after that however.

KOW, nailed it, you gotta stand up for yourself, was how he did it stupid? Sure, but clearly it absolutely humbled him. And I respect him even more than I did before watching this.

I’m a fan and I wish his ventures the best, but I can’t stop thinking his shoe company is called Human Resources Services.

Tony? As in DaSilva?
Surely you jest. Who would put Tony DaSilva of all people in their top 5? It's ludicrous. No, it's clear that he's talking about Tony Silva.
Interesting points but it's Tony "Japan man" Manfre
Here I was thinking Tony Tave.
For sure talking about my old roommate Tony aka Tone The Bone.
I believe he meant Tony Ferguson
I really just assumed Tony Cervantes
