During the summer I was progressing really well, skating everyday, and I learned how to get on a small ledge. Then I got busy with work and social life and lost it. Any good tips for staying straight on the ledge and popping off the ledge?

Approach in a comfortable position at a slight angle or parallel to the ledge, keep your shoulders parallel with the ledge, ollie onto it, focus on the end of the ledge, and basically just manual out of it when the time comes. Worry about popping out once rolling off is easy.

I'll give it a shot this weekend!

Doing axle stalls on curbs/anything else also helped me. Eventually I changed my angle of approach from perpendicular closer to parallel and the stall became a grind.

Had a friend tell me to keep my mind on my back truck. That I could understand it's like a Zen Buddhism thing being one with your board.
Had another friend tell me that you guide it with your front foot. That I couldn't understand so I just go faster then I should and hope that I'm not bumming anyone out

I was just working on 50-50s today. What helped me land a few is making sure I open up my shoulders enough to stay parallel to the ledge when popping onto it. It’ll probably take some time getting used to an appropriate speed for hitting the ledge.

For really high ledges my front truck is gonna get on an instant before back one. Lower ledges I like to get back truck on first which i think is much better technique

i did the vlskate technique
placing the board into a 5050 position of the ledge, then jumping into it
cavemanning the 5050
and then ollying onto it

Don’t think of it as you approaching the ledge, think of it as the earth’s rotation pulling the ledge under you.
-
Ollie high enough so you can see the ledge under you and stomp it with your feet. You might miss or only get one truck in there, so try to aim too.
-
Just concentrate on popping well enough to get back truck on since the front will always make it high enough. I don’t even think angle matters that much but if you find a long enough ledge you can go at a slight angle as long as you want until you find the spot and angle you feel comfortable with. Curbs help

Don’t leave us hanging, clown!

This. Its all about the back truck. Smack your tail like hell to make the back truck stay glued to you back foot.

With front 50-50's something I see a lot of people do is not look over your front shoulder, they look more so between their legs.....
I also tend to hang my heels off a bit....back foot in heel side pocket, front foot a bit pointed....

front 50s are easy but i cant back 50 to save my life
ha.

i lock into back 50s with my front toeside wheel but back heelside wheel it feels weird and I cant pop out so i just kind of hold on and try to just ride off the ledge without falling off
weirdly scary trick

I found that locking in with the back toe side wheel and then trying to evenly distribute my weight across my back foot helped me get better control of bs 5050s. And while grinding, I put slightly more weight on my back leg. It feels like I’m using my back leg for stability and balance, and my front leg as a guide. That and keeping my shoulders parallel with the ledge. I practiced getting into the grind like that until I got comfortable enough to pivot off my back truck and essentially just manual/flop out of it.

just do more ollies.
a 50-50 is just an ollie.
maybe try a few shifty ollies on flat to get more board control.
then you can aim for the edge of whatever your grinding a bit easier.
if you want to ollie out of one, apply pressure/force towards the ledge and have legs crouched and ready.
NEXT: move on to 5-0's because we've all seen enough 50-50's on small shit.
edit: a 5-0 is just a manual.
