I got a pair of blazers about a month ago and I've only gotten in about 2 1/2 weeks of skating around the ball of my switch is already bald. It seems like it always goes first on all my shoes unless they canvas then that goes first. I'm kinda pissed because everything is else is pretty good ( suede has barely marks, laces are only a little bit of fuzz, eyelets are perfectly fine). Its probably the way I set up all my tricks ( scooching on the tail) but the ball of my foot is fucked. I'd say I got a couple more weeks ( 3 at the most ) so I started looking at thick cup soles. I don't know where to start I got a pair of Nyjah 2's but that's it ( sorry I've been skating for about a year so if there is some really obvious I'm sorry).

Whatever Etnies with Michelin sole.

I never thought I'd spend $50 on insoles. But Ive had a couple pairs of the king foam orthotics from footprint now and they're amazing. I'm actually skating blazers currently, and I know exactly what your talking about. This is the first pair of shoes I haven't used the footprints on in a while, and the difference is huge. My feet hurt way more after sessions, and I get pains in my knees that I didn't before. The arch support is a huge plus too. Other than fancy third party insoles, I'd say vans pros have the best stock ones. Emericas g6 shit is a joke, es "sti" w/e sucks, lakais with the deluxe lite stuff is ok, but they will collapse relatively quick.
Edit: you're talking about outsoles, not insoles lol. Nvm I should've read more.

I think converse have the most durable sole imo but I stopped skating mob earlier this year and my shoes last way longer now
-
I skate mob too and I second converse. The sole on some of the adidas Vulcs (the one on the adi-ease and the matchcourt) is really durable too.
-
Thirded on cons. Pretty much committed to skating them since they're the only soles that seem to last memory than a couple weeks.
-
Puma lows lasted me forever and I always go bald on the bottom before I lose a shoe to holes. Cause all I do is ollie and skate the mini, no flip in flip out here.
-
I'm on my 4th pair of NB 440'S and have not worn a sole smooth yet. Used to skate nike or vans and would always wear them smooth in a few weeks.
-
You can also try sanding down your grip on a new board, all areas of the shoe last longer making the grip feel 2 weeks old.

Most durable I've ever skated was Adidas Samba Classic, wasn't super grippy but lasted forever. Haven't skated any other Adidas though.

Came here to say converse too. Skated a pair of JP mid pro w mob for two months straight and the sole isn't balding at all. The suede was actually super durable too. Took about 20 hours to get a hole in the ollie area.

Yeah I got some insoles for my work boots but I will say they help especially in blazers. My first day wearing them I had to stand up for an hour and afterwards I couldn't walk for a good hour. Yeah the blazers with the stock insoles are too thin like I can feel pebbles when I walk. Yeah thanks my knees have been giving me problems as of late I might look into those insoles.

Forgot about my Adidas all stars, those were far and away the longest a sole lasted on any shoe I've ever skated. Ridiculous

Yeah I watched a ben degros video on the allstars but they seems TOO bulky. How long did it take for you to break them in? ( It seems like a good shoes but they just seem to bulky and look a little bit like clown shoes)

Etnies Michelin?
Guaranteed this is the correct answer. I highly doubt any sole lasts longer.
-
Do you wear the shoes you skate in when youre not skating? I only wear the shoes I'm currently skating when I'm skating. I'm currently wearing es accels og's and theyre still going strong after 2 months. No balding at all so far

Not too long at all 2 or 3 sessions. The grip felt amazing off the RIP. I just never find all stars on sale since then. I for sure get off on skating shoes others would kook so you maybe right about the clown comment

I’m super impressed with the quality of wafflecup.

I was wondering if or how many people would bring up the griptape thing, eg if you have a new board every couple of weeks or less and use raw or unsanded griptape, your shoes are not going to last very long.
Those Michelin soles and the super soles, or ultra whatever DC shoes a while back are probably the longest lasting I have heard of, but I also think a lot of people will skate anything they can get for cheap, so that two pairs of sale shoes of Vans might last about as long as a pair of super soles and cost the same or less overall.
If you dust off your griptape, then shoes would probably last a lot longer as well, but if you take too much off then you might have other issues.

blazer mid soles last a while unless you are skating 6 hrs a day every day. Don't use brand new grip or sand it down a bit and just be lighter on your feet. You don't need to rub your sole into the grip to get them in place to do a trick. Your technique/ style/ where you are skating might be causing the sole to wear out quicker than it should. But really if you are skating a lot you will just need to buy shoes every month or 2 because shit wears out

Yeah I wasn't skating six hours a day but i have scoochy set up if that makes sense. I used to sand the shit out of my grip but I forget why I don't do it anymore. My gripe is that everything is all set I wouldn't mind switching if the uppers were blowing out but alas. Thanks for the advice though I appreciate the advice.

I've tried to skate the 440s a handful of times, and the soles are so hard in those shoes. How do you get used to them? I've been skating off my stash of Reynolds G6s, or Etnies Maranas primarily. Occasionally some kwalks or some Adidas, and I've wanted to like the 440s, but I've struggled to get used to that sole.
Any suggestions?

absolutely. I've got some Michelin Maranas and if the upper wasn't worn you would think they were still new.

My local doesn't seem to stock them on their website. Fingers crossed and if not I have to just wait a couple of months. Thanks for the input but have you skated the joslins yet? ( IMO they just look cooler than the maranas and plus I could do with the toe cap)
-
Etnies Michelin. No contest, in my experience.
Definitely the sole that's on Marana and Joslin 1. Haven't had as much experience with Joslin 2 (fiber lite Michelin one) or the lower tier sole on the Veer/Score models. I'm guessing those will be nearly as durable though.
Worth the break in period if you're not used to slightly stiffer cupsoles
I've skated 2.5 boards (mob on all) one pair of Joslin 1s. The upper was getting mangled but the sole had barely any wear/balding. Even as they bald a little you barely notice any change in grip. Skated park and street, too.
-
Can’t speak for every new balance shoe, as I only skate the 868 but the soles on those last forever. I usually change to a new pair when the soles bald and by then the shoe is pretty done anyway. I’d say they last me 3 months of frequent skating. More as I don’t skate as much as I’d like these days.
-
I burn through soles really fast. Switching to dunks helped a lot (all of mine have the old sole sole though, haven't tried the redesigned sole with the smaller grooves). I still burn through them before the upper though but they last longer than other shoes I've worn.
The Michelin Etnies are probably a lot more durable though. I had a pair of pre-Michelin Marana's and they hurt my feet a lot so I gave them away.
For vulcs, the Converse's with the Chuck Taylor sole with the diamonds on the bottom is the best I could recommend. The harder the sole the longer it will last in my experience.

according to the website they are supposed to last 3 x the regular sole ( same as the other michelin soles). It may be all marketing bs but still the precedent has been set. everybody on this thread has said etnies except some outliers so I'll probably pick up a pair when I pick some pads soon. Thanks for the help dawg.
-
The Nike dunk high elites had such a crazy durable sole I bought like half a dozen pairs at a time (a couple years back they could be found on new eBay for $70) I never made it through even the tread which had never happened to be before.
-
I would agree with everyone on the etnies recommendation. Another shoe with a durably sole is the berle pro from vans. The treat pattern is thicker and lasts a lot longer for me.
-
only on my first pair but the ave pro have been lasting extremely well. the vans ultrarange pro was good as well.
-
I usually go through soles really fast and I must say the DC Kalis S has the sole that lasts the longest out of the shoes I've tried recently. Definitely recommend those.

my Seeleys lasted forever

Whatever rubber compound NB# is using... that lasts forever.

Which is interesting because the pairs I saw and tried on in the shop seemed very thin underneath and I could feel everything, even more so than new Vans, which is all I skate.
I wonder if that is the key, finally someone is making board feel sole that lasts?

The NB#440 has impeccable board feel and I can easily get the better part of 2 months of skating daily for at least an hour out of the soles. I don't even get them fully flat before it's time for a fresh pair, there just comes a point where the midsole gets a little too packed out in the forefoot to be very protective. Could probably squeeze a couple more weeks out of them with those thin footprint insoles, but a different midsole that doesn't get so squished (like the Emerica G6) would be better.
