‘Skateboarding doesn’t have rules!!!!’1-1
Is bullshit. It does, and some of the rules and regulations are pretty shitty and in need of an update.
Rule proposal #1- Stop fucking littering

It's always crazy to me when I go to a known skate get down & see trash. I figure it must be "ravers" or something & not skaters because a your not an animal and b have some respect for the sesh. . Good thing my local is at a park & everyone takes their after session water bottle with them

+1 on littering. Leaving trash everywhere doesn't make you more gnarly or cool, you just fucking suck. The trash can is 2 feet away.
- Don't judge people by their setup (unless it's a bunch of Nazi/hate shit). It's a wooden toy, it's really not that deep.
- Don't judge by skill level. I've seen way too many people basically force beginners out of the skate park (out of all places) just because they were beginners. If you wanna act tough and shit, just leave the park all together and go skate street.

haha the trashparty name actually comes from this one time me and my homies stole some city trash cans and brought them to the skatepark as obstacles to put at the end of banks and do tricks over. anyways, some city officials/a cop showed up and one of the city guys said, "looks like a nice little TRASHPARTY you guys got going on here" we all burst out laughing at that phrase "trash party" and it has always stuck with me since. we gave the cans back without a fight but couldnt stop giggling. we got a stern talking to afterwards from the cop about respecting city property and city officials poor word choice.
me and the boys continue to steal trash cans and skate over them, and everytime we do we refer to it as a "trash party". one of my biggest accomplishment in skateboarding is ollie'ing one of those fuckers upright on flat. i love trash cans. 10/10 better than traffic cones.
im also currently working on a mini vx part that is entirely dedicated to tricks involving trash cans / bins / dumpsters / recycling posts/ all waste related obstacles. will definitely post on SLAP when finished. be on the lookout

btw in my expierence its usually not skaters who litter spots. but they get to deal with the consequences.
the place we skated as kids was also frequented by kids who didnt skate, all they did was smoke weed, litter, spit on the ground and vandalise.
in return, we the skaters had to deal with the result: frequent cop visits who took our weed, blame from the facility manager, a surveillance cam beeing installed etc. if there were ledges which could have been skated im sure they would have skate stopped them aswell.

If the owner of the property is nice to you and asks you to not skate/destroy their property, do not skate it.
I've had a few people at businesses be pretty friendly and honest, so we basically struck a deal to not mess up their stuff.
Example: This guy had marble ledges put in (for landscape edges) and we walked up, drooling at it. He came out and said "I know you guys want to skate here, but can I ask you to please not. It cost me around $8000 etc etc". And we told him "Thanks for talking to us like adults, we won't ever skate this " and shook his hand. Never skated it.
We had a lawyer's office that let us skate the ledges by their front door while they were open. Will never forget that, had that spot for years. The new owner however parks their car there to block the ledges, so that is what it is.

Reading this is interesting how everyone is addressing rules like we live at skate parks. This thread seems more discussing skate park etiquette but is about "skateboarding". Sad yet fascinating.
Agree with the litter, which is unrelated to skateboarding but more so Mother Earth, just don't do anything to sabatage future sessions at any spot.
Sadly we have to suggest normal human being rules since we have so many immoral fuck heads in our community....so other than that...just don't ruin future sessions and no rules are the rules.

I dont see any harm in keeping spots secret. Its fun if youre in the know and they eventually get found out.
Before you wax at least try 4-5 grinds to make sure it needs it, then ask if other people are skating it too. There is nothing worse than taking a piss or going to the cornerstore while a grom waxes the fuck out of something, only for you to come back and slip out hard. there's a dude with a car and drone that goes to my local like 20 minutes before they open on the weekends hoping to get 40 minutes to himself before everyone shows up and starts shit talking and he's one of the nicest dudes around. That very behavior is what kept my from skating my local until I was much older so I will not be continuing that trend or teaching my son to vibe people out either. If a dude shows up on fucking heelys I'd still dap him up after some cool shit.

lol this one time in the middle of the day park pretty busy this whole crew of those people riding the motorized one wheel things came thru and just did a lap around the park with glowing led helmets, motorcycle gloves, and 360 degree cameras and everything. Lots of unnecessary crouching and hand touching the ground bullshit going on.

Personally, always smoked weed outside of the park, in a car in the lot, bc it brings uneccesary attention that will fuck us over in the long run. No nicotine in front of lil kiddos, but if it mostly olders idc
that’s a pretty good stance to have, you’re better than most people who smoke. The guys at my local bring their own ashtray which I can respect BUT they have no qualms smoking in front of kids and/ or skating around the park with lit ciggies which is infuriating at times. My kids will usually just say, “dad there’s some smoker bitches over there let’s run away!” because they can’t stand the smell either.
Idk though, if we’re going to go down the whole “as long as it doesn’t infringe/ harm other people” route, then smoking needs to be included in that logic imho and if the smokers litter, then they should be put in the same category as other people who litter

smoking is an interessting topic. havent been in a situation where it bothered me at a skatepark. i guess it comes down to rules set to individual parks. usually people smoke in the chillout areas. you cant really be smoking and skating at the same time, at least that what my lungs tell me.
smoking weed at parks should not be done, at least not in an exposed way. same with alcohol. if the park is basically empy it happens and i dont mind. obviously you dont do it in front of kids imo. for me personnaly im to anxious to smoke weed in public and be able to really enjoy it. :-\

I'm down with the no littering movement. We had this little park the city put in on a rarely used basketball court about a five minute skate from my house. Just smooth ground, a couple QPs, and a box/manny pad. It became a big hang out spot for HS kids that didn't skate. Like 40-50 people there on Friday/Saturday nights. I used to go super early in the morning. There were several fast food places and a 7-11 nearby.
So much littering when there were pleanty of garbage cans and kids asking me to buy them cigs or beer when I'd go at night. Never did. I was walking my dog by there one morning and two city workers were loading all the stuff into a truck I asked them what was up and they just said, "Kids trashed this place."

If random tweakers and homebums are allowed to be a weirdo's and act like a goon so should a person being frustrated, I don't condone acting like a baby/focusing your board and having a full blown meltdown but a good proper fuck or goddamn it at ones self is motivation I think.

Depends on the spot, some places you can smoke crack in them and it really wouldn't make that much of a difference.

I am very anti-spitting at the park, when I was like 15 all the stereotype "hang out and smoke and sit on the ledge and don't skate the entire day" guys would be smoking and spitting between their legs. One of them left and someone sat down and chit chatted got up and didn't realize he stepped in a giant spit puddle and then went to go skate and there was a giant spit stain on his griptape. Guy had a massive freakout focused his board and went home.

Skatepark spit talk reminded me of one random, funny interaction I once had at mine with a kid who didn't skate at all yet just showed up one day to give the captivating single player experience of repeatedly spitting into the quarterpipe from the platform a try. I didn't notice he was actually aiming for the ramp the whole time until the bottom was covered in spit and I almost rolled through the whole mess trying to skate it. I give him a warning, he denies the act altogether, fine, I reckon he won't be doing it again regardless. I start skating off to the other side of the park but still half a second later I look back, only to make eye contact as he is again leaning over the ramp with a four feet long slimy thread of spit hanging off his lip that he seemed to be struggling to cut this time. In reaction, kid doesn't break eye contact nor posture and just yells 'it'f not me!'.
