Excellent skating, excellent edit. The grind that made the Thrasher cover was nice, but the last 360 flip was the real winner.
-
not sure ive seen a pop shove fs noseblunt before. I LIKE THAT

Was just about to say the same thing. Looked real nice. And it wouldn't be a Thrasher part without the last trick blown in the thumbnail photo!
-
damn that really hits the spot, just what i needed and that monster nollie heel on flat at pulaski kinda gave me kalis photosynthesis fakie flip vibes
-
A lot of people don't know that that's actually John Shanahan in the stroller at the beginning of Kalis' Photosynthesis part.
-
cot damn
homie went on a straight killing spree
-
thats some tasteful skateboarding, actually a week of tasteful skateboarding. tom knox, mason silva, john shanahan.
-
A lot of people don't know that that's actually John Shanahan in the stroller at the beginning of Kalis' Photosynthesis part.
AHAHAH
but yeah, dude is GOOD!
-
The Kalis worship gets a bit much for me but i'll take it.
Shanahan is great.
-

Shanahan is great.
The thing is Kalis never really skated like him. Not to be confused as a diss. Kalis skated really fast but never did wall rides or some of the bump to bars John does. Both are sick. This part rules.
-
He's no different than those 50s doo-wop greaser dudes who listen to The Skyliners and work on their hot rods.
-
Super super sick part. Odd ender choice though
-
I've come to appreciate east coast skating so much more. It seems like the vibe is better than the west coast "Hey we're all having fun everyone smile" edits we're bombarded with.
-
this dude has great talent, i’ve seen him skate the skateplaza in PA in person and he’s mental
-
Damn, started off a bit mellow but got dope quick. Lots of cool shit in there.

I don't think Kalis ever skated as much crust as John Shanahan does, either. Dude is out there when it comes to his spot hunting at times.
-
Wonder if DGK could replicate a Stevie and Kalis part with Shanahan and Dwayne Fagundes. At least the clothes would be similar.
-
Didn't care for him past the funny/awkward Kalis impersonation but for some reason this part made me a convert. I feel his skating got more solid, for the lack of a better word, and now the excellent trick selection really shines.
The Pulaski line at 02:10 stood out: Bs Nollie Fakie Manual Revert was proper and seemed perfect for that corner, Nollie Heel total winner as someone else already said, and the way he tilted his back foot after landing the Heelflip Crooked was a nice touch.
-
wow, dude has immaculate trick selection. the line that started off with the tailslide to switch crook was so damn good. he's always been sick but his skating got so much more proper

That tailslide sw crook was standout for me, he held it for so long. Also the fakie varial flip/ fakie v heelflip line was sick.
-
Great part!
I wonder who inspired him most? Hahaha
That nollie heel was fucked
-
Surprised that grind made the cover with so much heat dropping this month.
-
I'm a fan and his skating is amazing. Beat choice and edit just felt kind of redundant and stale to me though. I'll rewatch again later or tomorrow and see if I change my mind.
-

The spot is just so fucked, footage doesn’t really do it justice. Plus it was a great flick. I drove past it the week before the cover was announced and thought how fucked it’d be to see someone ollie in or pole jam up. Was really weird/cool to see my thoughts become not just a reality, but a cover shortly after.
Seen someone compare it to AO’s ollie into pole in Fully Flared but this is way more fucked imo.
I appreciate how he mixes your traditional tech truckin’ with a lil extra huckin’.
-
Really good. He made pop shuvit noseblunt slide look nice.
-
Was not expecting the wallrides or the pop into the pole jam gap.
Smooth operator.
-
he's the best.
-
Damn, the Seek video is gonna be sick.
-
damn that was sick. I really liked the fakie bigspin wheelie bigspin out.
-
Damn, the Seek video is gonna be seeeeeeeeck.

Alex Carolino just dropped a sick part last month.

Is landing on beat the new wave?
Is this the first part you've ever watched ?
-
No one mentioned that OG Zoo York head Eli Morgan Gesner is channelling Muskabeats to make the music?
Sick part though, Shanz is a talented dude whether you dislike the cosplay or not.
-
I love how much pop and board control this guy has. The way that he perfectly balances long nosegrinds and 5-0s is so pleasing
-
(https://e.lvme.me/ullaqld.jpg)
I guess 2003
I’m 14 again
-
He did some really sick shit, but that nollie heel was the main takeaway. One of the best I've seen.
-
not sure ive seen a pop shove fs noseblunt before. I LIKE THAT
That trick has been done on curbs 30 years ago..the great Dan Peterka
-
Manny combos stood out for me.
-
not sure ive seen a pop shove fs noseblunt before. I LIKE THAT
Adrian Williams used to do them a bunch
-
Can we stop calling it “cosplay” when a skater actually dresses like a skateboarder.
-
nollie bs 180 fakie manual half cab out on the corner of the ledge was awesome and stood out for me

Bahahaha.
For real this part was pretty dope, seems like his skating and style is more rounded now? Good to have another edit from Penny, too.
-
I tried dressing like this and it didnt work. Sick part
-
this dood my favorite who dress like that

i seen john boy & his gf at the dime events & they sum genuine love birds no cap i back that shit i wish he skated to a song that reflected it more like hospital by modern lovers but still good part ♥️
-
Plus plus on that track and spot selection. How did this ender drop to bank spot just pop up now? Seems like that spot would have been hit with other tricks or was this the grand reveal?
Very refreshing for a Kalis and Photo era fan.
No backtails of any sort and very likely that was intentional.
Proper JohnS

For real. While Kalis is a plaza skater, Shanahan hits some cutty spots. He also gives off Welsh vibes too!
-
just curious if I'm missing something about the ender. it's clipworthy but doesn't seem like an ender, but i think i can remember a couple other people having enders on it as well? is it steeper than it looks or does it have a really high bust factor or something?

Think it’s an instant bust

I did that trick to death in 1991 for sure, but this Shanahan one was super nice. Peterka had the best one no doubt. It's much easier to get into a front noseblunt by doing a pop shove into it than the full regular front noseblunt style...just easier to commit to in my opinion.
-
that back nosegrind really should’ve had a second angle
-
first watch on my laptop and thought the track was kinda blah but fine, second watch on my phone while hooked into my car stereo and i thought it worked really well
-
Ripping as usual.

Why ?

How did this ender drop to bank spot just pop up now? Seems like that spot would have been hit with other tricks or was this the grand reveal?
It’s huge bust. From what I understand you get kicked out walking up to it. Shanahan sort of has a reputation getting tricks on spots that you get kicked out walking up too.
-
Holding it down and skating some seriously cutty spots. Great part.
-
Is an ender at a spot that's an instant bust during Covid cheating or valid?
-
slayed it, again
-
We have Josh Kalis at home.
On the real though that part was rad. Getting Wenning DC video vibes from the edit
-
soty
-

You and everyone else at the spot...
-
I don't remember him being that good ... that was a real nice part

Kinda weird to give a trick the ended when you need background info on it
-
sick.
-
I watched this a second time, it is remarkable how many kalis "esque" tricks and or style is in this part.
That is not a complaint either. Great skater, so many amazing tricks.
I wouldnt say its SOTY worth, but its definitely my favorite part of the year. This could fit right into the reason or an alien video
-
Really reminds me of the old Wenning parts. Even the grinds sound so 2000ish
-
I wasn't entirely convinced when he got on DC but holy shit has he won me over. Fakie pop shuv nosemanual to fakie 360 flip out in a line?
Also, I have enormous respect for anyone who can come out of switch noseblunt to switch rather than turning it to regular.
-
The nollie bs 180 over the wall/barrier thing in PA is crazy. Gotta have hella pop for that.
Loved the fakie tre down the set too.
-
Is he wearing US40 Jeans at 1:31?

I think Dave Caddo kickflipped into it, and if he did that’s the only other flip trick I’ve seen and you can tell they’re kicking him out during it.
Side note: in its time Shanahan did a heel flip off this brick bank over a big ass railing and that spot is called forbidden banks

Beyond being a pain to get to, I think the massive bank is part of the Roosevelt Island monument itself, so it’s technically defacing federal property. Could be totally wrong though!

I cannot stand this fucking guy at all.
Have always hated his whole deal.
His style is awful.
His cosplay is embarrassing.
And even I can agree this part was actually really very good and a huge improvement on anything else he's put out.
Still skates like a dickhead tho.

skating was sick, loved the song, was he wearing a Sean John shirt in the front tail to switch crook line? incredible.

If I hated everyone who beat me at SKATE back in the day, I would hate everyone I've ever played SKATE with.
Also, I dig your use of "back in the day."
Back in John Shanahan's day?
So, 1998-2001 but actually 2020, you mean?
-
First long fs noseblunt on the steps had strong Kalis vibes.
Pulaski line was dope.
I get why they used the beats but they were kind of boring.

That was awesome. The thought of him hanging out with Kirby and Jake Hayes at a random sketchy NYC spot is great.
-
People that hate on this guy aren’t seeing the whole picture. He isn’t another ledge/plaza tech guy. The outfits might get hated on but his spot and truck selection are on point. He’s so balanced with so little effort it’s incredible. He would be eastern conference soty easy

goddamn this is a sick fucking part. Especially diggin' the Eli beats
-
Fuck yeah, dude rips. Def not just a ledge/plaza guy, he has some epic transition clips and can get creative on janky, crusty spots. Nice guy too, he's quiet but friendly.

Who knew the threat of eating cat food would be such a great motivator to land tricks?
