fuck.
why is Alexis Ramirez not the skater of the year again?
-
Stephen Lawyer’s pants have become decidedly less silly.

Stephen Lawyer’s pants have become decidedly less silly.
We need Stephen's Lawyer to confirm or deny this statement, ASAP.
-
Lots of work put into this one. Jeezus Brand Turners S/w hard flip set it off perfect. Marshalls, JP and Lawyers last tricks were craze. Surrey is extremely graceful on the board. Tiago lopes probably gained some new fans and definitely shut down the PB rock spot. Wes and Alexis keeping up the steady pace the last few years.
No complaints with the exception of the missing Javier Sarmiento part.
-
holy shit that was amazing. the edit and segue into Brandon's switch hardflip to kick the whole thing off almost brought tears to my eyes. epic.
-
Too exhausted from the slam section so had to pause this after a few minutes, but I did watch the Sw Hardflip. It’s surreal to see a proper 90s execution of this trick with that much airtime. And the catch was so proper! There was a hint of old skater steez which made it even more awesome.
-
No complaints here. Holy shit they went in.
Tyler Surrey is possibly the most underrated pro right now.
-
The mafia always comes through. Great video!
Psyched for Turner. Legend.
Surrey and Palmore got me hyped!
New kid is fun to watch and Willms is on another level.
Alexis is one of my favorites. Definite SOTY contender.
-
Brandon Turner is a goddamn legend.
-
Everyone went hard, no doubt.
But that sw hf was on another level. That would have been an ender ender in the FTD video back then. And in the year 2020, at this age. I dont even have words for this.
-
can we get some of these guys consistent shoe sponsors please? there is too much good skating to have some of these dudes bouncing around.
-
as someone else said, tyler surrey is criminally underrated. he's never put out a weak part. Also i loved alex's tailslide to sw crook. two great ones in the same week (john shanahan)
also, i think when slap was hating on sw front 180's they were thinking of them looking like the one at the 5 minute mark hahaha
-
Ha just noticed the SLAP Pals sticker on the 2nd step of Wallenberg.
This was a treat. Sk8Mafia output has been great this year, I gotta rewatch Promo and Wes' 420 part.
-
Looks like DC found a replacement for TFunk with that new kid. Short and scrappy ripper with shaggy hair who you can't tell if they're 15 or 22.
Sk8Mafia to me embodies that family vibe that Baker tries to say they are. It's like they all stayed in that mentality of being 22 in a skatehouse, they've passed the age of doing hijinks and being a menace but still out on the streets daily.
I wish Alexis had killed it this hard next year because he deserves a SOTY but it's Mason's year.
Also BT switch hardflip wallenburg is mindblowing
-
That was beautiful.

These. Skatemafia's output is insane. They just put out whatever they've got every 4-6 months or whatever. I can't believe Promo came out this year too. They just don't stop.
I'm guessing here, but I think part of it is that it's truly a local board brand. Most board brands have dudes spread out across California at least, if not split between coasts. Almost everyone on SK8Mafia is in SD, unless i'm mistaken. So they can truly just get the whole crew together every weekend or whatever and stack. It's beautiful.

Was just coming to post that... favorite part.
Willms and Ramirez are top level gnarly also.
-
Here's a salty twist for yall
it's Peter SMolik's birthday today
-
mods can you merge the fit of the year thread into this one
-

Toby was a regular at the indoor park I worked at in Vista when he was little. Always signed up for the skate camps. Would never have expected him to go to Sk8Mafia - he didn't skate anything but the bowl back then.
-
Un fucking believable...once again.
While other squads are making zines, shitty art, and picking out clothing these dudes are on a nonstop rampage for almost a decade. Most underrated and its not even close

I will revisit this vid primarily for the Tyler Surrey part, he is a treasure
-
Loved seeing the set from Gareth Stehr's That's Life ender get grinded
-
SM video soundtracks always slap.
-
one of the best friends sections in a video ever
-
How is nobody going to mention the fact they used "Eminem My Name Is" for stephen lawyers part?!
Sk8mafia videos are awesome for the skating and genuine homie vibes but they have to have some of the worst music choices ever.
Alexis has had an incredible year and should be right up in the conversation with everyone else this year for SOTY.
-

I love Sk8Mafia, but I agree on the music. I figure Dan probably makes a lot of the music choices. They use a lot of weird remixes or just music that doesn't quite fit, like Slayer in the intro. I'm not complaining though, always stoked on their videos regardless. Only a couple strange music choices in this one.
-
Brandon Turner soty
-
Damn I was pretty blown away with that first dudes switch 50 on the double kink but that last one was wild.
-
I want a framed fucking photo of that switch hardflip on my wall
-
Big '2003 burned CD collection' vibes with this soundtrack
-
I thought Lawyer’s Mike Brady perm stole the show. Really hope this catches on.

I get we're people come from this, but at the same time I appreciate the fact they like to mix things up.
Its Sk8Mafia and most skateboarders have a broad range music selections that crew will vibe on depending on the session or mood, I appreciate that they're not another company that bases their whole image of a set genre of music
I know not everyone will agree or appreciated it, but its better to be honest
-
Got damn they always come through.
Best sw hardflip ever.
Alex Willms' style is like a mix of Daniel Haney, Ben Gilley and John Motta.
Tyler Surrey is absurdly good.
Stephen Lawyers change of pants has also gone hand in hand with a slightly less gross trick selection, or is that a trick of the light?
Wes' casual hardflip wallride is insane.
I love the fact that they always have a proper friends section.
-
I love the fact that they always have a proper friends section.
And it's not just top level or crazy dudes, they include the normal homies that can just do a crook on a bench or a manual on a shin high pad.
-
I just want to chime in briefly here to remind us that Wes Kremer already had a full part in 2020 as well.
I'm on awesome skate content overload.
-
Where the fuck is Javier Sarmiento???
-
Where the fuck is Javier Sarmiento???
Spain.
-
Any Smolik footy?
-
Wow, a full-length skate video in 2020. Brandon Turner, Alexis Ramirez, Tyler Surrey, Tiago, Wes... there's so much to process. Throw em up for Smolik
-
Any Smolik footy?
he is done with da mafia. started his own new company (which did not went very well, I guess they are out of business) ... I guess he still skate from time to time. But it is sad to see, how he has fallen

Also surprised no one has mentioned the wacky We Are the Champions autotune track playing whilst Lil B does his switch hard at wallenberg

It's from an old rocafella mixtape track from like 2003 or 2004. It's just a sped up sample, no autotune. Kanye actually made the beat.

my hatred for Tiago Lopes is immense
besides him that was pretty good! fun watch, questionable song choices at times. It's Sk8Mafia! That's their M.O.!
-
Some amazing stuff. But pretty disjointed having legends like Turner and Kremer mixed in with Lopes‘ freestyle routine and Heath’s Ronson Lambert impression. At least Lawyer is more tolerable after his pant and trick change-up. He’s only at Tactical Manual levels of San Diego shittiness now.

Tyler surrey tellin it like it is
-
the vid was awesome
-

What's wrong with that? It was a fun choice. I'd rather have some interesting and fun choices of music in skate video parts than the same generic stoner rock that usually is paired with Thrasher parts.
Video was nuts btw. I know he's not popular on Slap but I thought Tiago Lopes really stepped up. Alexis part was nuts as usual. Kremer, Heath, Surry, etc all did their thing.
Great stuff as usual.
-
The first part, that song. Fuck...that was from around 1991(the original), and the first kid is the alchemist. Hes huge now and produced a shot tonne of amazing rap. The other dood is an actor now.
Super random but cool to see

Sk8mafia gets SOTY (Squad of the Year)
-
Wes front board a down a picket fence >
-
The only constant is change—and Sk8Mafia
Everything is in flux—except Sk8Mafia
You can’t go home again—unless it’s Sk8Mafia
-
Wes has been coasting for awhile since his SOTY but his last 10 or so tricks in here had some of that old magic.
I’m offended on behalf of the god Tyler Surrey for having to be sandwiched against the abomination that is Tiago Lopes.
-
Don't forget about Alex Willms. Easy to get lost in that sea of talent. Almost been a year since his welcome part dropped. So many hammers in that clip. I like seeing his progression, style improving and everything flowing better now

Might get some shit for this but Tyler Surrey is what we all wish PJ Ladd would be. He is on that level.
-
I don't disagree with people's comments on Sk8mafia's music selection, but I also don't want them to change a thing. They always have some sort of dorky music thrown in with the west coast hiphop, but it's sort of endearing to me.
With their videos I know I'm going to get an onslaught of footage with no gimmicks or cool-guyism.
They're the epitome of skate rats doing their own thing, and I really appreciate that in this world of meticulously manicured images/personas.
-
Okay just finished first part, pretty sick so far
BUT
The 16mm MUST END
This shit has me hot! 3/4 of the time it’s just a film reel effect they’re putting over regular hpx footage!!! Why must this be such a central theme in edits!?
That is all
-
Also make willms pro
-
Was watching the switch hardflip at Wallenburg & was thinking, "I wonder if anyone will ever grind that kinked rail there..." Then yep, there it was!
-
Sk8Mafia to me embodies that family vibe that Baker tries to say they are
couldn't agree more.
-
Most memorable and rewatchable video in years tbh
-
my hatred for Tiago Lopes is immense
thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I can't stand his shit either.

Incredible full length!

Here's some rough cuts of the clips I filmed in the video (Sorry, there aren't any Brandon Turner Switch Hardflip attempts. I wasn't there for that).

Seriously thanks for the outtakes vids.
-
Finally had time to watch the entire video. One of the best of 2020
Brandon Turner sequence perfect with feel good vibes.
Excited to see more of Toby Ryan in the future, so young.
Jaime Palamore nice mellow part, good to stick him in the beginning.
Marshall Heath does the same trick however really smooth.
Wrote about Alex Willms earlier in thread, future looks bright.
Longest friends section ever. Happy to see Provost, Figgy, & Milton sequence @ 25:26-26:00
Stephen Lawyer just having fun, goofy song fit with goofy guy.
Been sleeping on Tyler Surrey, need to watch more clips.
Tiago Lopes destroyed the rock. Also beautiful beach shot @ 35:47
Wes Kremer then Alexis Ramirez best way to end the video. The Kings
End credits very thorough especially thank you section. Happy to see The Muska & Penny on the list.
Thank You sk8mafia!
