Title: Christmas Traditions
Post by: theSketchLord on December 06, 2020, 04:38:15 AM
Every year me and my brother would get the 2 week Xmas TV guide and each go through with a highlighter and mark off the shows/movies we'd want to watch over the Xmas break.
For the 17 years I've been living overseas I get a package with the UK TV guide already marked out with what he plans to watch and despite not loving in the UK I'll still message and tell him what I'd end up watching.

I got the message today that the guide was once again on it's way...

Anyone else got any odd xmas traditions?

My wife and I get drunk and watch Friday After Next. It has been our tradition for over a decade now ever since my buddy accidentally gave me a DVD of it in the navy when he was getting rid of a CD folder with CDs in it.

Generally I am working when our family does it’s big get together on a weekend near thanksgiving.  So I always get whatever leftover white elephant/nasty x mas present is unwanted or unclaimed.
Last year I got an apology and a work light(theme was “w,” niece picked a letter from a hat).  The apology was as not necessary as the work light is awesome.
This years letter is “j” with a limit of $30 ish bucks.  Found a $60 skil jigsaw for $30 so I’m really hoping nobody wants it and I get left with it but let’s be real, imma end up with a jar or something

I've always associated skateboarding with Christmas since I was about 6 years old because that's how I got my first boards. Especially Alien. there is something about them that feels like the Cali equivalent of like sledding with your friends or something.

for the past three years me and my SO have a piece of winter cake on Christmas eve.

used to do the church stuff every year until last year and doubt we will this time for obvious reasons.

and we listen to the Killers christmas songs.

I dont think we have any long standing traditions other than the standard stuff in my family I'd have to think about it.

Every Christmas is an emotional rolercoaster for me whether I choose to spend time with my family or not. I used to look forward to having drinks with my friends every Christmas afternoon or evening but i've lost touch with most people. This year i'll likely be hanging with my dog feeling relatively lonley.

Not doing it this year, but my family is Italian, so we always do the seven fishes on Christmas eve

The last two years around Christmastime, I've gone with friends to see Edward Scissorhands at this theatre by me. Not doing that this year either  :'(

Fuck that Elf on the Shelf.

My wife and I have to dress these fucking dolls up and hide them around the house every night. This goes on from Dec 1 through Dec 24. Kids love them though.

What a racket.

I love Christmas and everything that goes with it. Without it we’d all just be cold and miserable—like Jan-Mar 17 when I celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

My immediate family was poor growing up, so my mom got stoked on Xmas and it was the only time during the year when my sister and I got new stuff. It was super special like that.

My extended family is pretty big, so everyone would get together and eat food. The adults get wasted and gamble. It's pretty much been the same thing my whole life. It was really fun once I was allowed to drink (18), but then I stopped and after seeing some folks, it got pretty weak hanging all day with a bunch of people getting continually drunk and high.

I've spent a lot of Christmases during the past 17 years away from home- working with the group home kids or in the middle of a traveling thing. My partner and I have been together for 6 years and have only been able to spend a couple of those Xmases together. Last year we ate some mushrooms and hung out in the forest. If the king tides aren't still crazy I think we'll eat some mushrooms and go to the beach this year.

Go skating in the morning. Go to my uncle's house for a couple hours. If I didn't eat too much go skating again in the evening.

Generally eat indian food on christmas eve. spend all of christmas day with the family and eat chinese. Me and my bestfriend used to always go get a beer on christmas eve, but now that he's married it doesn't happen anymore.

Classic village on the mantle top, I’m sentimental about it/in general like my father.

Happy Holidays to you and yours no matter what you celebrate.

It’s not about Christianity, consumerism, or putting others views down, but spending time as a family with us.

My sentimental post of the year, mods please note that on the record

ever since moving out i still go sleep over at my moms on Christmas Eve. get drunk as shit with the fam, and usually once mom passes out with chardonnay in her hand my brother(s) and i get high/extra drunk as shit and stay up late playing video games. in the morning mom makes a big meal and grandma comes over. somehow even though we're all in our late twenties/early 30s, the living room is full of fucking presents and we go around the room unwrapping all the shit she bought us from Kohls that may/may not be needed. we drink and watch christmas vacation (grandma's fav).

sucks about covid this year but hopefully won't be too far off from the norm since its a small group and we all work from home.
