The "bloards falling onto freeways-discussion" might get rekindled (see 47:45).

Midler is kind of vanilla but he has done some of the sickest tricks in skateboarding(back 3 carwwash, that 5050 on the curved rail, kf back lip double kink).

I think I'm twice as old as the target demo, and had to skip most of the interludes, but damn, can't hate on dudes out there getting tricks. Midler seems like a lovable idiot. The extra kinky 50-50 with the swoop and the curved rail lipslide were wild.

as if ishod wasn't already my favorite, then he goes and gets an individual thought patterns shirt

I’m wearing a “Human” Death shirt atm and that got me so stocked ahah Ishod is a man of culture!  :-*

I found Kevin White footy really enjoyable and had that “feel good” vibe to me, Ishod is living in his own reality, no comments needed, Zach is smooth as fuck and incredibly talented (I hope some good board brand pick him up, or is it IC a board brand now?!). He’s obviously really good but I hate Robert Neal and I don’t really know why, Ish Cepeda’s front heel in Sidney was bonkers! Noe Solis might be the tallest midget I’ve ever seen, he did some fucked up stuff tho. I already forgot every Nico clip, Zion is good (that heelflip was nuts) but goddamn, he’s 1 step away from looking like the US version of Aurelian Giraud. Midler’s last trick was insane but I feel like I find Milton’s flip gnarlier. The fact that it was less “in control”, he popped way higher, the flick, catch, shifted the fuck out of it, that takes the cake for me. Still, the whole part is mental. That rollercoaster grind had me shook. Overall, the video was really enjoyable and much more memorable than other Illegal Civ stuff I’ve seen before.

I expected the same thing.  I don't like IC edits at all, but I'm pretty sure this is a IC funded homie video.  I'm 37 and was amazed how much I liked this, minus a couple cringe parts.  Pro tip: if you're supposed to have a full part and don't come through, just ask Louie to get some clips and he'll fill that shit out.  Sheesh!

Ishod has been one of my faves since, uh, Since Day One.  Loved him skating to Otis.

Zion is gnarly but has robot/snowboarder style.

Alex Midler should lose the Red Bull hat (ahh, but the check) and get on Deathwish.  Ender was fucking crazy and the front smith, and front 50 on the WHOLE Nyjah rail was nuts.

2020 has been an incredible year in skateboarding.  So many surprise, feel good vids dropping.  Shalom!

It was the same guy/spot - was it the Baker video maybe? And that spot where Robert Neal should've been smacked was in another clip a while back where Nak was being incredibly wack in the same fashion.

I’m definitely not going to complain about getting to watch another great full part from Ishod, but isn’t it weird that all these dudes that ride for other companies have footage in a video for another brand?

Or is Illegal Civ less of a board brand than I thought? I know it started as a crew making a few homie videos, but I thought they were trying to build a legit team with pros centered around Midler.

Or is it just clothing and some boards with no pros but also a half-assed Hollywood production company?

Robert Neal with earnest intensity telling that guy "We're trying to get clips!" was downright hilarious. Some awful music in there, and the filming mostly sucked, but there was really good skating. That dude with the bizarre body was going off. Ishod is one of the few people who get called GOAT who can easily hold the title. Midler doing the trick of his life in those shoes is pretty funny.

Ironically, I watched the whole thing on mute after the sad intro song.

woah midler! the red bull hat gets him checks, but IC gets him cred.

what's up with carhartt wip? everyone in this vid loves them but im pretty sure max palmer is the only sponsored pro. seems like they could have a more expensive dickies team.

never thouht id see an illegal civ video i didn’t hate. also ever thouht id see frank ocean licensed in a skate vid.

some of the editing surprised me in a good way. the cut to black and white and cut back between parts worked really well. along with some of turning songs down to hear a convo and then going back to the song. it carried.

also midler is such a little troll it’s actually kind of endearing.

Really liked the whole vid. Wasn't expecting to be into it/never seen another IC vid but Davonte Jolly is a much better editor than Mikey Alfred. Only thing I really didn't like is how he uses a lot of roll-up in his clips.

Ishod skating to Otis then Nudy was amazing. I watched the Nudy part like five times.

Nak was actually funny and was saying some real shit at that double set, dunno why people are mad.

Kevin White is wonderful, man skates like he tries and I feel that. Breaking your board and still landing in manny is absolutely wild.

I think the reason why I never cared about Midler is the Red Bull hat, even the car wash bank hates it apparently. Dude is an absolute killer.

Music supervision was really good.

Kevin White had the most cohesive parts that I can remember watching. The pop-shuv noseslide revert around 8:05 was one of the most aesthetically pleasing tricks in the video. He’s a tall guy, so maybe you don’t like tall skaters styles.

For all saying this was an IC video. It wasn’t really. Jolly works for IC, but Mikey told him to just make his own video with whoever he wanted in it.

Seems like Red Bull is pretty strict about placement of their logo? I've noticed Red Bull riders seem to always be rocking headware, but Monster dudes can place the logo on other locations? Think there's a payment tier depending on where it's palced, or is it dictated by who the rider is? Does Ishod get paid less than someone else, because he's somewhat subtle about how often he flashes the logo? I've spent to much time today pondering about shitty tasting beverages. Drink water.

Relapse is still printing them. The labels have picked up on this demand and are just constantly screen printing new ones for reasonable prices. Was Three 6 the first act to touch off the trend of wearing shirts repping heavy music?

I definitely get annoyed when Travis Scott or whoever else makes it impossible to find something for a reasonable price. Supreme permanently warped the market for Akira merch.

Ishod is the GOAT and it's not even a discussion anymore.

Sat down intending to watch the whole thing. Could not do it. Some great skating in there. Some real awful music too.

Arguing with property owners about skating on their property is the dumbest shit ever.

I gasped when the footage turned black and white after that guy did the bs flip over the grass gap thing at like 38 minutes. Can't believe you would actually do something so corny.

Most of the songs were really bad imo. Just something about it where the 'coolness' of the music comes off as arrogant and pretty self absorbed. If you're gonna use a hard ass song, it better be like Tyshawn in blessed where his skating was as intense as Rick Ross on BMF,
not edited way too slow for the track. I think that in most cases, understated music is just way better suited for skating. gives off humble vibes.

Big collection of whack kits in a video too

My girlfriend chilled with me for a second while I was watching this and then Nico Hiraga's part came on the song immediately is just some misogynistic crap about video vixens "fuckin rap stars". Not sure how that was supposed to mesh with some pretty, rich kids skating. I could look the other way if it was Kool Keith Sex Style shit, but I honestly was confounded by that song choice.

My girl kept watching and laughing when people would storm off running at their friends when they landed a trick and then look at me, sort of wondering why I'm stone-faced. I eventually was like, "Sorry, it's just that this is a huge cliché in skate videos so I don't find it amusing."
(Stick in the mud award).

It's also bizarre that on the Thrasher "Deadline" video Jolly was all, "I just want to showcase how loving, and caring and funny my friends are..." but most of the B-Roll was either self-congratulatory or them being dickheads to security guards.
Hiraga to the mild tempered maintenance guy at the church, "Could you not man, for like five fuckin minutes..."

Anyways, I'm trying to re-watch some parts of this and am just thinking about how immature skaters act. I mean Ishod is paid very well to do what he does and he's mocking the fuckin church guy. And then Nak rolls up and powerslides to try to fake the guy out (who doesn't even flinch by the way). Whatever, but why include it in the video? Babies.

it's SUPER entitled behavior and watching skaters act tough and intimidate people over not being able to skate somewhere is nothing but self-absorbed, adolescent shit that makes all skaters look bad

I’m going to say this in the most respectful way not to you but the overall reception of these parts of the video, but what made this different than all the videos we grew up on (as older dudes) specifically baker bootleg-baker3, a ton of transworld vids, 411’s, zero etc... that everyone praises around here? I’m not saying you worship those videos but maybe it’s more kids are gonna be kids and act up and we’re all just getting old. Greco literally was punching security guards and civilians to get his board back for years yet he’s a legend “on here”. Heath breaking down fences or kalis/stevie both at love scrapping with under covers. IMO all are okay but stop worshipping the dudes you do because they skated to mobb deep and Metallica in a video you saw 20 years ago and can’t get over your lost dream. Maybe I should’ve put this in the unpopular opinion thread. And yes I’ll see myself out now and “tell me how you really feel” comments are expected.

Lots to question here -- red bull fucking everywhere, god tier cringe IC spot arguments, way way way too many interludes with dudes talking about absolutely nothing where it is unfunny to literally everyone on the planet except for the people who were there etc -- but ultimately you can't deny the skating.

Midler, damnit!!! those last few tricks were on another level.

personally I really like the video, I spent months talking shit on IC and saying it was gonna be bad... but god damn you can't deny the skating in it. Fighting security guards is lame (Jesse v sent bad vibes for those clips) and young white kids acting hood rich is rancid, but holy shit all the bad in the video is an easy trade for Ishod and Zach parts along with millers last three tricks. shit made me want to go skate at 3 am when I watched it, which is rare.

I’m definitely not going to complain about getting to watch another great full part from Ishod, but isn’t it weird that all these dudes that ride for other companies have footage in a video for another [board] brand?

Agree. Not complaining but strange indeed. Can’t think of another board company video with so many parts/footage from riders not on their team. I wonder if Real/FA knew IC was going to relaunch their board team on the back of their skaters. Especially with footage coming out of your team riders that you didn’t release - but I think the Real skaters repped pretty good, FA not so much. I remember an interview with Jim saying before fully backing new riders, he wants to see them skate, push, style, move, not just about tricks, see what they look like just skating. That’s why Ishod is a legend, and Midler is a Real reject.

Sick to see a proper full length skate video come out of nowhere in 2020. Music and some of the skateboarding are not exactly my style, but I can respect a good portrait of a crew when I see it. It ticks all the boxes of a solid skate video for me—most importantly, it has a good variety of parts, including the surprise, the legend, and the hammer time. I was missing long lines, but I can say that about most videos. Also good to see some classic shitbag behavior and heartwarming friendship moments. Let’s be honest, both are essential experiences when growing up as a skateboarder.

Damn Ishod truly is the greatest of our generation. Does he film like 5 clips a day or something. Think about how much footage he already put out this year and then dropped a two song part on top.

Also, do you know about the culture of skateboarding?

At least they'll have a whole catalogue of parts, vast amounts of tour footage from multiple companies and even masses of contest runs to scrawl through.

Illegal Civ is what it is... but I've gotta say I think all these homie vids that Ishod's had parts in are what have kind of shaped his career in a way. It proves that he'll always put down without the pay cheque telling him to.

Midler has always had those good bs 360s, his best flatground trick. Didn’t expect that to be the next one at the carwash (expecting nollie, switch ollie, 180 etc), probably the trick of the year with Lil B switch hard. Congrats Milder, good for him.

many people had enough decorum to mention midler's ender was fucked without saying what it was

after the 50ft quad kinked curved rail i turned off assuming that was the mega-fucked trick

later saw someone on here saying he 360'd the carwash

laughed assuming they were trolling people who hadn't seen it yet

only just watched the last 30 seconds of the vid

Kevin white part was good. It’s nice seeing y’all dudes kill it.
Milder(half assed pun?) killed he’s just so dorky looking.
Nak is cringe.

From the trailer I was really hoping for a tyshawn part filmed by jolly.

Also as someone that isn’t from California and only visited. All the cringey yuppie looking shit is what I feel like is LA and Hollywood.

Also was stoked to see Ishod in a death shirt
Then bummed  it was the death metal version and not the punk band death from Detroit.

I’ll add to this. The coolest thing about ishod and the many clips he get is the amount of people he films with. I seen him go up to a kid who obviously was using his first camera setup and filmed lines with him to learn how to film my heart warmed seeing that hopefully I can find that footage floating on the net it was at Jkwon of all places so it was dope to include that kid and his friends. A theory in defense of the red bull hat....isn't that both zion and midler's first sponsor?   I mean when you're a little kid and you get the offer most little kids would take it.   Then as you get older they keep paying you when nobody else does and providing opportunities for you.

I'm not saying I like it but I can respect it.   Its not the same as if ishod starting hawking red bull.
[close]

Seems like Red Bull is pretty strict about placement of their logo? I've noticed Red Bull riders seem to always be rocking headware, but Monster dudes can place the logo on other locations? Think there's a payment tier depending on where it's palced, or is it dictated by who the rider is? Does Ishod get paid less than someone else, because he's somewhat subtle about how often he flashes the logo? I've spent to much time today pondering about shitty tasting beverages. Drink water.

Red Bull sponsored part of an event we organised a while back and yes they are VERY specific about their branding. They paid for us to build an extension box and gave us a list of colours we could paint it, and even sent a guy down on the train just to place the logo sticker on it himself as they couldn't entrust us to do it ourselves. He got a few bubbles in it while putting it on and was shitting himself

I think after what went down at Black Rock a couple of years back, people maybe collectively realized, maybe we shouldn't be glorifying this anymore.

Ishod's part was great, but I was surprised they would re-use a song Howard skated to in Goldfish, I say this while acknowledging probably 90% of people featured or involved in making this video was born after Goldfish was released.

Ishod is unreal. Midler is probably Guy's illegitimate kid. Saraceno stood out for me. I'll never not see that Sunny kid as Atreus from God of War. KB has Tom Penny vibes in that you never know how much footage he'll put into a project, and seems like he could not skate for months and then do something mind-blowing.

Good video, and better than I expected.

Im open to having my mind changed.  Who else since suffer the joy has done this like that?  Mike Mo in forecast was 2005, suffer the joy was 2006.

Clint Walker in the ambiguous video maybe?  Clint hasn't aged well
Cory Kennedy's Beware of the Sasquatch, don't think he had a full part drop prior to that. Some Berric's stuff but that was about it.

Maybe I’m just getting older but it’s so cringe arguing with adults who are actually doing their jobs, or own property. And the skateboard argument of ‘i Have to do MY job too’. People I work with contracting would beat the shit out of these kids
[close]

That part blew my mind when it came out. His career has taken an interesting path.

Footage was so good but kinda felt half assed put together with the music?

Also Nakel comes off as the biggest person when arguing with people at spots, cringing so hard

Love me some nakel but I hate to see him acting foolish... he really doesn't know how to rationalize with pedestrians. Some of his older footy on day with the homies is even gnarlier.

After thinking about this, Jack O’Grady’s Kisht part. I had no idea who he was prior to watching it and was probably my favourite part in 2019.

Ishod and Midler were sick but seeing Mikey Alfred's face at the end kinda ruined the whole vid for me.

Videos like this always remind me that skateboarding is truly for the kids.

Not my cup of tea, but what do I know...I'm just an old fart now.

Good skating.

This video was full of way more great stuff than bad. Really amazing skateboarding from just about everyone.

That said I had to skip certain parts because the 2010's sad boy R&B gave me second-hand embarrassment.

I would really love to see mikey alfred do a kickflip.

As much as I back this video there’s plenty of footage of him skating over the years. You can Jonah hill him or whatever and question his “core integrity” in skating but as corny as he is he ain’t the one to come for in skateboarding lol

I back this video too. Mikeys cool and all, hes kind of like doritos, so closely connected to skateboarding, our culture wouldnt be the same without it

I had no idea that kid from mid 90s could skate. Kickflip Back lip was surprising to say the least

I'm kind of conflicted when it comes to Kevin White. On the one hand he seems like a great dude and i love that you see how he struggles with tricks and isn't the next robot-skater, on the other hand i expect harder tricks with a better style from pros these days.

In the end of the day his parts make me wanna go skate because of the imperfection, so maybe he did his job and the pro status is deserved.

I liked this video well enough, I skipped passed all the non skate clips but it was a chill video. Don’t really expect to rewatch it much but there was some good skating.

Watched this again and Ishod is so good he's one of the few that can get away with reusing a song (the Otis one.)
