Just seen a few people post on their stories "R.I.P Henry Gartland". Went to his instagram and on the last thing he posted there were lots of comments referring to that. From what I've seen it looks like it was a suicide. Very sad if true. My condolences go out to his friends and family. Dude was extremely talented. R.I.P
-
We don't need details on the cause. RIP Hank.
-
Damn that is so sad to hear. The dude was so talented and was going places. I feel so bad for his friends and family. Please Pals if you're having a tough time mentally and emotionally reach out to anyone even myself if need to. Im always here to help in whatever way I can. I hate to see skaters go out like that.
-
goddamnit. that's heartbreaking. RIP
-
So sad

He was on tap to be Santa Cruz's next pro
-
Jesus fucking christ. RIP
-
I'm at a loss for words RIP Henry
-
RIP
So heartbreaking :'(
-
i remember when pals were clowning him about how they were "excited" that he got on mob. rest in peace, none the less. im seeing suicide? either way, suicide is not a solution. even ozzy said so. tomorrow you all should go skate for henry, cuz he now cant.
-
RIP Henry. The MN skateboarding community is hurting right now. So fucking sad.
As was said above, there's no need speculate on cause of death, especially this soon.
-
RIP .
I ran into him and his homies a few months after that am scramble . They were stoned as hell walking out a Trader Joe’s with munchies and back into the connected upscale apartment and I remember thinking to myself what a life , cool to see him enjoying what skating was bringing him .
Bummed to hear this.
-
Didn’t really know much about him until this video I watched which made me love the dude. What a fucking bummer, RIP.

Awful news. I wish the best for his family and friends. This is heartbreaking.

I am NOT saying this has anything to do with anything here, but worth noting regardless:
If you are in suicidal crisis or emotional distress, use the contact info below to get help.
United States: Contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (the Lifeline) at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Crisis workers are available 24 hours a day. Calls are free and confidential.
PALs are also around if someone wants someone to talk to in tough time. I struggle with depression and I know how hard this pandemic can be.

Big ups on posting this, I’ve always been too scared to talk to friends and the lifeline has helped me out of a rut a couple of times. Here for you PALS too if anyone ever needs it!

RIP Hank. Devastating.

Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to someone you may think is having a rough go of it! Just that act alone can do wonders.
-
I'm heartbroken to hear this R.I.P. Hank to his family and friends,
Pals and lurker's I have said this many times beforehand so if anyone ever needs to talk I'm always down for a chat and if you want to text PM me I'm always here to listen.
Seriously though suicide is never the solution and you're a special person and deserve happiness. Shalom.
-
Fuck this bums me out. This kid was next in line to go pro for SC and had such a bright future ahead of him
RIP
-
Rest in peace.
-
So fucking sad, dude was so sick and seemed so awesome off the board also.
Dont be afraid to get help. Many of us, including me, wouldn't be here without help of our close ones and/or professionals.

Came here to post this too, took a beating and kept coming forward.
-
so young! condolences to his family.
-
Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet.
Absolutely gutted by this, absolutely loved this kid and was a huge fan.
Like so many others have said, if you need someone to talk to or just a sounding board, don’t be a stranger, I will drop what I’m doing to talk. I’ve attempted it before and there’s no judgement at all.
-
Heartbreaking, gone too soon. I really liked he's style and was wondering were he was doing these days. RIP
-
RIP , check on your friends folks
-
Terrible news..RIP
-
FUCK.
Dude this is brutal. He was my favorite up and comer and one of my favorite active skaters in general. The dude had SO much potential, I genuinely think he would have been a SOTY candidate in the next few years and I'm not just saying that to lionize him in the wake of his death. He was super gnarly, had style, good trick selection, and just overall had that "it" factor that makes someone hard to ignore. A really interesting mix of early 00's rail chomper, unorthodox tech-gnar, and modern park rat. He seemed like he could skate anything and skate it well.
Fuck man this is a rough way to start the year. I was 100% sure this dude was about to get a board and now he's gone.
-
Fuck this is so sad. He was extremely talented and was definitely the next SC pro. I was stoked for his new until the end part. I been keeping up with thise SC YouTube videos where they film for it. He seems like a genuinely good guy. So sad. RIP Henry
-
Rip so sad he was so young
-
Dude was so damn talented. Rest in peace.
-
What a huge bummer. He was seriously amazing and looked liked he was having a hell of a time killing the spots put in front of him. Big ups to the pals offering help, thats fucking awesome.

100% agree

I’m in total shock rn. Their crew has been through the ringer with some losses of people way to young. TBH I never was super into Henry but I did watch him grow up to be an amazingly talented skater. Damnit man, this is fuct. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. I cannot imagine the pain his Dad is feeling rn.
-
Always such a bummer to lose someone so young. I remember not knowing much about him until that Santa Cruz video where he skated to a Nothing song and instantly becoming a fan. Amazing skating and solid music taste.
R.I.P Henry
-
Horrible, RIP
-
Nooooooooo his nose blunts were so sickkkkk. Rip in pease
-
Horrible situation. Rest easy Henry.
-
Never knew him personally, but damn he was amazing. Being from MN, I'm always excited to see guys coming out of MN and just killing it. RIP Henry.
-
I’ll be honest, I suffer from depression and anxiety and this past weekend I kept looking at my closet and thinking about taking my clothes off the rack and just using my belt and hanging myself. I’m not suicidal but sometimes I feel really alone and the dread is insane. Before in the past when I’ve thought this or once when I just wrapped the belt around my neck to see how it feels I texted my cousin. This weekend I downloaded an app. It really sucks that however Henry died he might’ve been feeling that feeling too. It’s an incredibly painful feeling and I hope he longer feels it. RIP
-
Rest In Peace, and my condolences to his family friends and loved ones.
We need to do what we can to destigmatize mental health issues. Far too many are too afraid to come forward and talk about what they are going through and feel isolated, especially during these times.
Be a kind friend, reach out to your brothers and sisters.
-
God this hurts. Such a young, promising dude. I can't imagine how his family is doing right now.
As others have thoughtfully stated, check on your friends, be honest with yourself and know that it's okay to ask for help.
-
Forever young my dude. who would of ever had known. We are all gonna miss you man, especially here in minneapolis. You sure held down the color purple , just like prince, and the mn vikings. You made us all proud. Now rest easy and throw down a front noseblunt on those pearly gates .
-
Fucking RIPPER forever. As we say in the Greek religions: EONIA I MNIMI ! Everlasting in your memory. Rest in Peace Henry.
To echo the gentle & brilliant compassion of Atiba Applebum,
PALs are also around if someone wants someone to talk to in tough time. I struggle with depression and I know how hard this pandemic can be.
We bicker and banter & get our kicks, but the SHALOM CODE extends to EVERYONE ! We all want you to be safe and healthy and happy , and you deserve NO LESS !
If you need a helping hand or just an ear to lend , we are here , always :)
I love you all.
To echo a beautiful sentiment of yore , in Henry's honor LET'S LIVE :) and to add a new element for the tag-line: take fabulous care of each other too 8)
-
Getting a little teary eyed thinking about this shit. I love Minnesota skaters and get hyped on them more than anything. The dude was going to go pro sooner than later and had the gnarliest trick selection. Crazy how he had the biggest smile in the world but maybe was hiding a lot of pain. Definitely marathoning through his parts after work.

This kid was so gnarly. There has been to many skaters dying in recent years.
-
Absolutely heartbreaking. I was so excited when him and Maurio and Knibbs and Jake were all put on SC. He seemed like a real cool dude esp after watching his true grit video. RIP.
-
RIP, my heart goes out to his family and friends.
-
This seriously sucks.
He had such a good vibe whenever I ran into him at Familia or 3rd. Fucking ripper.
Rest easy Henry
-
Worth noting here in Minneapolis we have lost two of our most talented up and comers with the loss of Henry and CJ Tambornino. RIP to a couple of legends
-
Rest in peace. Was always stoked to see him ripping.
-
My condolences to his family, his friends, and those he affected. Rest in peace.
-
Rest In Peace Hank, very sad day today, go skate in his honor and please, to those who are going through tough times, you are not alone. We love you. Rip❤️
-
Damn, RIP. Breaks my heart seeing guys younger than me pass on.
-
Heartbreaking, RIP Henry.
-
This is rough. I was really rooting for him to do well and he seemed like a genuinely good dude.
-
RIP.
Call or text a friend you haven’t talked to in a while today, never know who needs that little bit of connection/love.
-
At a loss for words, he was easily my favourite AM out right now.
If anyone is reading this and is suffering from mental health issues PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take it seriously. I've lost multiple friends this year, and this is another tragedy.
-
This is truly and deeply heartbreaking. Give the people you love their flowers when you can. RIP Henry Gartland, an incredible skateboarder and a person with unfathomable guts.

Eonia Hank , and thank you S C for spreading the most courageous love in such a moment
-
Damn i swear this lockdown is killing more people than the actual virus :'( Ive lost 3 friends and family to suicide in the last year and i keep hearing about others. RIP HG, We're all thinking about you
-
Didnt see much of him besides the Am Scramble a couple years back. He was sick. Definitely SC's next pro. This sucks.
RIP Henry
-
R.I.P to a talented Skateboarder. If anyone is going through some bad times and struggling with mental ilness feel free to send me a PM, sometimes you just need someone to talk.
-
I saw him and Jack Olsen skating a classic minneapolis spot over the summer and I'll never forget how much more powerful his skating looked in person. Truly a brute in the local scene.
-
So heartbreaking. Dude was in a path to glory. Super talented/gnarly skater and seemed like such a nice kid.
Check on your friends guys, most people suffer in silence but it doesn’t have to be this way.

i hate this. too many reminders this year to check on your friends. kick in the door and make sure they know you care. I'm the worst at this so I'm not preaching but just a reminder to myself. terrible terrible shit.
-
This is so sad. Another fellow skateboarder leaving way to early. There has been too many deaths lately. The average life span of a skateboarder has to be lower then the average on a national scale; either sickness, overdose, accidents or suicide. it is so sad. I really hope we as a community can be better at reaching out to people.
RIP Henry - you ripped!
-
Rest in power.
-
RIP
-
Just terrible. RIP.
-
He really shined on this trip where I first discovered him

-
Got to show Henry and some other guys around my city for a few days awhile back. Not knowing anything about him before that, I remember being really impressed with how he carried himself. Very approachable, super polite, lots of smiles, and just an all around genuinely sweet kid. It goes without saying he was also ripping and amazing on a skateboard.
Very sad to learn this news today. Hope everyone at NHS/Santa Cruz is doing ok.
RIP Henry Gartland
-
terrible news. RIP!
-
One of those dudes you can’t help but smile while watching. Tragic loss. Especially with his recent Thrasher interview I thought he was really about to get his shine. RIP Henry.
-
i wonder how Santa Cruz is gonna handle their new video, i know he had some crazy footage in there based on his thrasher interview. wonder how his teammates feel rn :(
-
It’s snowing in Portland right now. Taking it as a tribute to one of the kings of MN. Rest In Peace.
-
Everyone hates Santa Cruz, but I like them a lot. This is devastating, he was such a good young skater
-
Tell your friends you love them.
RIP
-
Whether or not this is the right time or place to bring this up, suicide among the youth has skyrocketed since the pandemic. It's a national tragedy, please take care of your heads pals. You all all loved.
-
I really hope S C drops a pro board for him and donates a good amount of proceeds to his family or a suicide prevention organization. I don’t know him but damn this really fucking with me. He seemed like such a great person and I’d get stoked when one of his sponsors would post a YouTube video with him. Like he single handily made me give a shit about NHS YouTube. RIP Henry.
-

I can't express the amount of love id like to send to his friends and family right now.
Survivors guilt is real, and very dangerous. It's been 25+ years for me personally, but I get it still. Every single one from my original skate crew took that ride. But I constantly remind myself to help save others, it gets better. I have thoughts myself, wanting to join the homies in that smooth park in the sky, but staying honest and open with my partner, dr, and physiatrist help keep things in perspective. It's hard to accept the fact that I'm still here, when every single one of my brothers I held in higher regard than myself took themselves out in our youth.
-
I really hope SC drops a pro board for him and donates proceeds to his family or a suicide prevention organization.
Hope to see this too. This is absolutely heartbreaking, he had so much potential.
Sending love to all the 3rd Lair homies. Hope everyone's doing alright, don't be afraid to reach out.
-
I just saw that vans posted on their Instagram, but haven’t addressed Henry’s death yet. If they just sweep it under the rug and don’t say anything, that’s gonna be a deal breaker for me. I’m hoping they say something here soon
-
They put something about it in their story.. not exactly a heartfelt post, but something.

I know there are plenty non-US pals on here. Please post any suicide prevention details you can on here.

Do you know how many stories I’ve heard about the suicide hotline where the people are just heartless. The number of stories were people have literally been told that their problems weren’t important and they need to hang up and leave the line open for real people with real suicidal problems. I think I remember hearing some kid whose mom was sick in the hospital so they called the suicide hotline and the people in the hotline were not sympathetic at all. They were like everyone gets sick, just get over it. Etc...

Post alternate options or stfu. One or two bad experiences do not typify all interactions across all suicide help hotlines. Im sure you mean well, I just don’t think it’s the best time and place for this skepticism.

Hating on someone for a particular trick selection or style does not equate to a desire for that person to die.
This response is about depression and the effect of how you people act on these forums in general. I don't know Mark Waters but I know what it feels like to feel worthless and want to die. If he truly has committed suicide, then he most likely felt that for some reason life wasn't worth living.
To someone who is depressed, has anxiety, or other mood or behavioral disorders, enough criticism can cause someone to believe they should just die. A lot of people here are shitty on purpose, they think it's funny and others encourage the behavior. But you're not considering the damage it can cause. When someone calls you out for it, they're mocked and told to go someplace else. But for a pro or someone coming up, especially a young person... this shit probably eats away at them. People who are famous and/or internet famous at any level talk about this all the time. The negative comments stand out more than the positive ones. If someone makes fun of your style (the way your body moves) which is something most people can't control and when they do try to control they get called out for faking it... what the fuck are you supposed to do? "Trick selection" is directly tied to skill level. A lot of skaters equate skill level with self-worth. I assume for someone who is relying on skateboarding for their future its much more intense.

Everyone is different. Not everyone responds the same way to shit talking.
Someone's suicide is not 100% your fault but you still need to take a long look at yourselves and the way you act on these forums. Being an asshole, a bully, a smartass all the time... it's not as cool as you think it is.

Mark Waters passed from Covid. Henry is the one who committed suicide, but we get what you’re saying and thank you for it

Rest in Peace Henry.
Is there a thread on Slap where people can reach out to other pals in case of need, or where pals can indicate they're willing to listen? I feel that something like this would be a great thing to have around. In spite of the questionable stuff that goes on here, I feel that Slap is a real community and that many would be willing to lend an ear.
-
I remember seeing so much hate towards Henry by some of you posting here...now you’re praising him...

I hate how this bullshit comes up every time there's a tragedy like this.
Who gives a shit if some people didn't like his skating, style, etc? Nobody is going to be happy that he died because he dyed his hair you absolute fuckwit. You also have no way of knowing that the people in this thread saying they like his skating said they didn't like it in the past, unless you literally go into old threads and cross-reference every post.
Rest easy Henry. You'll be sorely missed.
-
A forum where people literally bully other people from behind a screen and then talk about how serious depression is and that they are there for each other. Unreal.
-
Not everyone here is a bully, some of us are searching for a connection with skating and a community. I see it often here and in social media, the harassment and constant negative commentary weighs heavy on some people, so much that they delete an account but it doesn’t remove the feeling that people are picking out all these things you already worry are wrong and obvious to the world.
We won’t know the cause of Henry’s death and like said before, it doesn’t matter and is only to satisfy morbid curiosity.
But it’s a real problem, I’ve seen it here since the early 2000’s and endured it myself. The people dishing it out are obviously built differently than those who take the brunt of it and can’t let it go. I don’t mind a little playful harassment but the aggressive hate has got to go. I saw it on Henry’s posts and having skated with him and hung out a bit, what kind a and thoughtful person not deserving of it.
Anyways, rip to him. My condolences to his friends and families who have to put the pieces together and go on without him. Have had multiple friends and family members take their own lives, it’s brutal to move past.
-
I know the people posting the suicide hotline numbers are just trying to help but one thing I have heard and take it with a grain or two of salt is that you may end up being involuntarily committed to the hospital which is obviously not free or cheap here in the good old US of A.
-
he was a young man, but he really had one of the best flip-ins of all time

Thanks Armin.
This is utterly devastating for me and I didn't even know him personally. I can't imagine those close to him knowing his talent and personality and losing him so young.
RIP. I was quickly becoming a fan of his skateboarding with each new part I saw.
Please find help if you need it. Bottling up your feelings is not coping. Staying quiet won't get you help and doesn't make you strong. Don't make me beg y'all to come forward.

This is such sad news.
I go to therapy every week. It's very helpful. I wish it wasn't so stigmatized. It's normal to need help, to seek help. We all need it sometimes.
Rattray listed some resources at the bottom of this post for those that may need to reach out. He highlighted suicide prevention/mental health lines from the US/UK/AUS, but also has a link to a global list.

I just saw that vans posted on their Instagram, but haven’t addressed Henry’s death yet. If they just sweep it under the rug and don’t say anything, that’s gonna be a deal breaker for me. I’m hoping they say something here soon
Thats a weird thing to go about the world. Every year im sure there something bad happens to people who work at vans whether is disease or death, but this one guy that wasnt a pro for them, and you expect them to say something? what bout every one else? thats some dumb fanboyism

i actually went to the instagram for vansskate and seems like they had a story saying "rip henry" but didn't see a post on their feed about him..
i didnt realize who it was, i just peeped his latest thrasher interview and when i first saw this thread i didn;t realize it was him.. seems so tragic.. hope his family can get through this
EDIT: they did make a post addressing the cause as well as the national suicide hotline..

We don't need details on the cause. RIP Hank.
this line of thinking really needs to fucking stop

I remember seeing so much hate towards Henry by some of you posting here...now you’re praising him...
Rip Henry

I am sure its rough. Shit, the world in general is super rough for a lot of people without depression right now so I can not imagine what having depression must be like. I am simply stating that people on here critique, its what happens. I would never want to read slap comments about a part of mine if skateboarding professionally was my goal, at the same time professional skateboarding is accepting critique by the public as youre essentially selling yourself. I totally get what youre saying though, I just wouldn't want to make anyone feel responsible on here for talking shit about his skating and thinking that could have contributed to his death, but I also agree that we must be much more conscious of what we say online to each other and how we treat one another on the internet.
This was a horribly tragic event and I sincerely hope those close to him can find some comfort thorough this awful time.
-
Holy shit ∆∆∆ I just watched the video Thrasher put out in regards to Henry I really do believe some people are scum in the comments section of YouTube.
I do agree with the comment above me saying we should be a bit more careful with how we treat each other online no matter the platform. I wouldn't want to have the comments section turned on if I put out a pro/am part for a brand or homies section.
-
Beautiful tribute. What an absolute bummer. He was not exactly my type of skateboarder but he seemed like a great human being and quite the talent. i sure feel for his friends, fans, and most of all family.
I've had suicide in my life and the devastation it leaves in it's wake is just not worth it, tomorrow can be better with help and understanding.
Tell your friends and family you love them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2BYWWMA0U8
I know SC would have likely turned him pro after his next part but IMO now they sell his board its a fine line between tribute and profit off of death. Whatever his family wants is my hope.
great idea here.
RIP Henry.
Damn that is so sad to hear. The dude was so talented and was going places. I feel so bad for his friends and family. Please Pals if you're having a tough time mentally and emotionally reach out to anyone even myself if need to. Im always here to help in whatever way I can. I hate to see skaters go out like that.
I second this sentiment
-
Fucking heartbreaking. My condolences to Henry's loved ones. RIP
-
rest in peace
hope your spirit is in peace

how are people bitching about his trick selection. The dude skated everything and wouldn’t do a single filler trick. Every part he dropped was fire. Again I say RIP Henry. One of the few to make it out of Minnesota and live the actual skate dream. It was exciting to see a 3rd lair rat grow up and get last part in a Santa Cruz video. Everyone gets to be a critic on here and talk shit about Santa cruz or how he dyed his hair. But you get to dye your hair however you want when you’re kflip crooking whatever the fuck rail that is at the end of Santa cruz 4. Also if you don’t like handrail skating fuck you.

Only 21 years old. Tragic, RIP.

What a fucking horrible bummer. RIP dude, i hate seeing another skater lost
-
Was hoping to see more of this dude. As someone with bp2, it hurts to read about this happening because I know how hard intrusive thoughts are to deal with. In general it just sucks.
Much love to Henry. Seemed like a solid kid<3333
-
Got the Feb 21 Thrasher in the mail yesterday and saw his interview there. The "I just want to stay healthy and skate as long as possible" quote was so damn sad it hurt.
Rest in Peace Henry.
-
Like others have said, fucking ripping dude on the road to big things. I've been around here for many passings, but this one hit hard & close to home, just being a young guy with seemingly so much going for them outwardly but struggling on the inside.
RIP Henry, may you find solace.
-
Just found this news, such a bummer, he was a rail killer
RIP Mr Henry Gartland
-
Absolute heartbreaker. Was such a ripper and all smiles. Was looking forward to him rising to pro ranks after destroying it as an Am. Personally have lost too many friends to this. Hope the stigma is removed and people realize it's not always the person sitting in their room depressed that goes this route. Just takes the right turn of events, change in brain chemistry, etc for something like this to happen. It could literally happen to any of us under certain circumstances. So damn sad.
-
Huge loss for skateboarding and the Minneapolis skate scene. I'm still processing this..
I wanted to post this Jed Anderson interview that came out just a couple days ago, as I think there's a lot of overlap in dialogue, and I think both cultures have the opportunity to grow, learn and strengthen their communities at a time like this.
https://tormentmag.com/the-jed-interview/
I had only talked to Henry a couple of times, but have a number of friends that were closer with him, and let me tell you its difficult to watch your friends grieve and struggle through feeling like they could've been there more, or done something different.
I know SLAP isn't the greatest place to talk about mental health, but I hope one day people can feel comfortable expressing themselves if they need the help, or can at least be redirected to the proper resources.
Hoping this can be the first step in a number of many for our community and culture. Be good to each other! ❤️

Rest In Peace.

Someone I know has recently attempted suicide. He survived and is currently in a clinic. Also My brother has been not well mentally because he‘s basically been stuck in his apartment for a whole year, because he‘s in the high risk group for Covid. I suspect this virus has definitely made a lot of people’s lives with mental health issues even harder. Such a bummer all around.

You never know how you're words can effect someone. Quit being a lil' prick.

It's a sad world watching people like you go 😢

I'm still having a hard time registering that he's gone....
I remember seeing somebody post about it the day after it happened and I didn't believe it was Gartland. I thought it was someone else in the photo that they posted. Thought nothing of it... then more posts filled the feed and I knew. On his way to 22. So young. I kept thinking he was almost mid 20s but he was a young buck and had such passion in his skating. Such energy in his persona and abilities. I've been rooting for him to go pro since I saw him come on the scene in 2018!
Something else that I notice with some of these skaters that take their lives or put their lives at huge risk beyond what's normal for skateboarding...
It feels like these rippers have such heavy demons or darkness plaguing their psyche that their outlet is to destroy everything in their path on a skateboard and have close calls with death just to feel something. Just to feel alive, just to feel something positive that's an escape from their troubles.
Grosso hit me hard and now Gartland is getting again. RIP to him. Hope his family and friends are finding peace during this tough time <3

I don't think we should put these guys in a box or stereotype which kind of skater. Van Wastell really didn't skate anything big by pro skater standards, and due to addiction issues took his own life. It can strike anyone. Raemers had some risky stuff, but nothing that really stands out as insane in a world with Jaws, Milton, and Danny Way. Those are the two most prominent pros I can think of who chose to end their lives prematurely. I guess Ben Pappas but that's a truly crazy situation. Hopefully, the skate industry never sees widespread CTE like we have in Hockey or Football.
RIP Henry.

I'm not personally putting anyone in a box with my comment if that's how you or anyone else perceive it. I should elaborate. I am, however, noticing that some of these skaters that end up falling to addiction or taking their own life have a penchant for an outlet like death defying skateboarding or extreme substance use to satiate/fill that void from troubles they were experiencing. Something that is not uncommon with those stuck in a rut looking for ways to escape their demons. I'm observing a trend that could help refocus our attention on those we aren't paying attention to and should. From the Raemers and Vans to the Gartlands.
Jarne is another good example of someone who is wild on a board and was recently close to succumbing to alcohol in a deadly way but he's on the road to a healthier life away from it now. I wish more people can turn their life around from the dark grips depression/addiction has on people, but it's tough.
Anyways, I agree about hoping CTE doesn't become so widespread since that could be hugely detrimental to the scene and general views on skateboarding.

Very sad:( What a legend.

Anyone have insight if there's going to be a future full length part for Henry? He was a monster releasing clips and parts so regularly and I can't help but assume a lot of great footage likely hasn't been seen yet. With TVV new park showing a bit and the Santa Cruz vid only having a few clips, I'm wondering if his footage will be sprinkled across projects among the closest to him or if he'll have a full blown part one day

Video was definitely bitter sweet and good to see they are trying to do something positive from such a tragedy. Will also scoop up his decks.
-
very touching and definitely will be buying one of his boards. much respect to SC for fully consulting with Henry's family about what they should (or should not) do and how they should go about doing it.

Can’t figure out how to post the screenshot but the Henry board looks sick. Can’t wait to grab one.

RIP E. Henry Gartland. One year ago today.

RIP Henry, can't still believe it.
Lost an old friend couple days ago to suicide. I wanna remind everyone to talk those who are close to you or seek professional help if it's too hard to talk to your friends and family. Or even here. As much as industry wants to point fingers towards SLAP always in a negative way, this forum has helped me through some lonely times.

That brought a tear to my eye.
Lost too soon.

That was rad. He had a lot of skill and talent and he was so light-footed. Some Jon Allie/Chris Wimer type flicks in there.. He had a penchant for big rails, but you can tell he was an atv.
R.I.P. Henry

I really hope it wasn't suicide. I can't lie I watched his footage and got teary eyed. Much love to his family and friends.

I'm not even exaggerating, I had him pegged as the next GT style great one and I was positive he was going to be all over mag covers and shoe ads for the next decade at least. He fucking RIPPED and had great style and just that certain charisma to his skating that always made me want to watch more. I actually credit him (and to a lesser extent Jake Wooten) with completely changing my perception of Santa Cruz just with how fuckin cool he looked skating for them. I guess he was one of those Minnesota skate rats that basically spent his winters locked in 3rd lair learning and mastering shit then once the weather broke he'd take it to the streets and do it even better than he did in the park.
I took it kinda hard back then and this stirs those feelings up for sure. It's one of those situations where you wish someone could see themselves the same way others see them...So much love and respect for the kid, and while he's hopefully at peace I selfishly wish I could see what amazing stuff he was going to do on his board. RIP Henry.
