So, they are trying to make a "conceptual" griptape brand? One of the most pretentious things ever. Griptape is fucking griptape man...

What could possibly be different about this brand? No need for another grip, unless it’s Deluxe getting into the game.

Looks expensive. I’ll just stick to my sheet of Jessup that the shop provides to me for free when I buy a deck, thank you very much.

What even is anyone basing their criticisms of this on? I went to their insta and there aren't even any real posts yet, I went to the link in their bio and it just took me to one of those "this domain name is available" type pages. I agree it seems pointless to launch a new grip brand but with a team like that I'm at least curious.

Also couldn't this easily be a complete prank? like couldn't you feasibly start an instagram for a "brand" just tag a bunch of pros in the bio and let people speculate?

Not a prank, unless they also hacked Ishod's personal website (https://ishodwair.com/pages/sponsors) and added the brand to his sponsors.

Because much like bearings, decks, wheels and hardware, if you get the right people to promote your product you can sell a bunch of it even if its exactly the same as your competitors and comes from the same factory.

How many times have you heard someone at the park swear their Antihero board is the best wood but their friends deathwish sucked or something to that effect?

Definitely gonna try a sheet if my local gets it or reviews are good  enough to warrant me ordering some.

I’m curious about how the grip feels, maintains grittiness, durability and cuts compared to jessup and mob.

Who’s behind miles and where it’s distributed through?

Are they all riders from mob and they all got on miles?

Why is the trademark on every logo?

What are horse shoes? Are their horse socks?

That’s definitely what this is, and it’s no different than what NHS did when they created Bronson Bearings (which I don’t recall anyone turning up their nose at). The big companies are moving to have an in-house brand for every skateboard component, so they can better control distribution and enjoy higher margins. Not really more to it than that.

Brown recycled backing paper, micro holes like MOB, but from the photos, the grip itself does look more like Jessup, it has a similar gloss/shine that Mob doesn't have.

From my sheet, I dont see any micro holes like Mob. I have a sheet of Mob that I compare it to, it's definitely less gritty than Mob & the Miles sheet on its own is very flimsy, it doesn't have that stiff/thickness that Mob does.

So more like jessup? How’s the grit  compare to jessup? Also after you skate it a while tell us how it holds up

If I had to compare it to something, it would be Jessup. I'm going to set up a half and half grip situation, half mob, half miles.

Just bought a sheet at my local shop. Looks and feels insanely thin compared to Jessup & Mob. not nearly as grippy or thick tho. Not sure if that was made intentionally so the plastic blade that comes with can actually be useful?

I got a sheet, it didn‘t come cheap at 13 Swiss francs (ca. 14 US dollars). I only rode Mob before but I like Miles very much. It‘s grippy enough but not as rough as Mob. Feels perfect from the get go. We‘ll see how long it lasts. The sheet was a bit short tho. Didn‘t even try the plastic blade.
Title: Re: Miles Griptape
Post by: goodatmeth on May 31, 2022, 07:20:48 AM
I fully agree it feels perfect from the start, BUT it's still the worst grip I've ever used. Gonna re-grip for the first time ever today because the deck is still super fine but there is zero grip left. Never had anything like that happen before. It's not a super long lasting deck either, just a standard krooked deck I've been riding for 3 weeks now.

This griptape does everything extremely well except actually being grippy for longer than 1-2 weeks. Do not recommend at all.
Great for pro skaters, shit for everyone else

It's thin and stretchy, grips about as well as jessup and lasts about as long too. If you want to buy it to support the team I'd say definitely go for it, just don't expect it to actually be some kind of massive leap forward in grip tape technology. I'm pretty sure it's the same supplier that shake junt uses (or used to use, haven't bought sj grip in a long while)

Personally if I want a thinner grip like that I prefer flypaper. It's a little grittier and has the only acceptable die cut punch out.
Title: Re: Miles Griptape
Post by: goodatmeth on May 31, 2022, 12:30:48 PM
It's apparently extremely easy to rip off too. I thought this is going to be a huge pain in the ass but it only took a minute. Super thin. That's kinda nice, but I'd prefer if it was just grippier for longer.

For real? I tried to take off a sheet of miles and heat basically just separated the grip from the adhesive.

I usually ride Jessup and didn’t have any complaints while riding Miles. The edges wore down differently but that deck (in my last post) has the unrouted top rail so the grip comes right out to the edge and is probably what caused the issue. I wouldn’t bother with the plastic razor btw.

I've been skating this deck with Miles for a week and a half. It's been hot here, the other day it "felt like 122" according to The Weather Channel. Jessup bubbles and peels, Mob eats shoes worse in the heat, and it seems Miles separates into layers. The board hasn't been hit on a ledge to cause the separation, as the concave and kicks are fairly steep on this deck. I have to be conscious not to rub my feet into the grip or it comes off. The grip on the tail is coming off as well.  :-\

Would anyone happen to know a heat-resistant griptape?

I don’t, but I have to ask, what hardware is that? Special tool? Never seen it before

Pepper is really good. It’s pretty close to Jessup ultra, just slightly less gritty. I haven’t had Black Magic in close to 20 years (just found out they still make it), but Pepper immediately reminded me of Black Magic when I first rode it. I’ve been riding it for about a month on my current deck and it’s still going strong

Alright, I'm a big fan and regular customer of Mob for the last 12 years at least. I've only dabbled with Primitive (tried the Reserve program thing for a bit) and Shake Junt occasionally. Hate Jessup, Grizzly is doo doo, and I remember enjoying Black Magic when I was younger.

If I'm a regular Mob enjoyer, would Miles or Pepper be better to try?

I can’t speak on miles. But I was a regular mob user. Tried pepper and it will be the first choice for me. It feels like mob when it’s in that sweet spot after it’s been on your board a bit. Like that mob Goldilocks zone. Where it loses some grip but still grips. It didn’t get bald on me like jessup either. I’m on jessup now cause it’s what I had at home setting up a new deck and after a few weeks the jessup is tearing and mob nor pepper wore down or tore as easy as jessup. But after skating pepper I realized how I have to flick harder with mob than pepper or jessup.

Long story short. Pepper is like the love child of mob and jessup it lands somewhere in between

Definitely the best bang for your buck in the grip game.

It's grippier than regs jessup but not as grippy as Ultra, sort of in-between; as it relates to mob, it's very reminiscent of Mob M-80. plus perforations!
