Title: Relation between stance and hands? Poll
Post by: Easy Slider on March 07, 2021, 10:41:27 AM
I have wondered today if there is a relation. Only one way to find out: Vote!

Thanks in advance.

I am right handed and regular.

My brother is right handed and goofy.

Kinda cancels each other out but he was always better at backside airs (grabbing right handed) so go figure.

Not very conclusive yet but then maybe that‘s the answer... I also wondered why I grab my board with the right hand to pick it up, throw down or for a boneless, when I am left handed. That‘s for another thread I guess.

Thanks for the votes so far, I still don't think the result is representative with a majority of goofy voters....

Are you assuming that the real world split of regular/goofy skaters is 50/50?

No I assume there are more regular riders than goof, approx two thirds regs, one third goofy.

Polls have definitely been done on this before, and they always come back with 0% correlation. Handedness and stance are independent.

Safety dance = safety stance = safety hands

OK then I suggest we let this one die...  :D

There is a relation but it doesn't matter because you can either have your best foot be about power (back foot) or finesse (front foot). Also there's the one where you can balance better on one leg.

But if you're right handed...you commonly put your left foot forward when using the right hand.... Ie any sport....

I‘m lefthanded and goofy, but I use my right hand to throw my board down or grab it on a boneless (guilty pleasure). So grip thumb is on the right hand.

Yes, but what foot do you punt a soccer ball with?

For me it is my left foot much like Daniel Day...

I absolutely suck at football but yes, left.

Loosely related but I recently learned a friend of mine snowboards goofy but skates regular. Does both with ease but isn't great at switch on either. Anyone else in this boat?

I am right handed and regulargoofy.

My brother is right handed and goofyregular.
My brother quit skating like a bitch learning kickflips, I outshined him at most street skating but he was really good in a bowl.

Only thing that bums me out is him being a quitter.

Ha yeah same on the brother quitting - kind of sucks more, he was younger, was always better, but just couldn't handle it when he ate it.  I recall one time in particular we were at a local school just rolling around, he hit something and came off, cried and lost it, walked home without his board or anything and didn't want to touch it for about a week, until I got him to come skate a ramp or something.

Yeah I am not a sadist in slamming but it comes with the territory of skating.  I think that’s what turns some people of when they’re beyond talented and just can figure out tricks within a few tries they have no discipline when it comes with the craft.

I’d consider myself average at best and I’ve had to earn my 360 flops (it’s taken me over a decade to figure out the secret)I can do some switch tricks and slides but flip tricks not so much, it bugs me that some are annoyingly too good that it’s stale and over exaggerated think Nyjah Huston. Sure he’s good but after a while being too good equals no challenge as with anyone who is too good that just quits like a bitch.
