Whats the low down on these from people who have them / have tried them? All I could find when looked them up are people trying to sell them in the classifieds. I skate 55s usually and I am debating getting the new af1s or these. (I mostly skate transition)

I am interested in this too. I kind of liked Thunders like 20 years ago skating street, I'd be interested in them now. Had a buddy over to skate my mini last week on Thursday and he had them and loves them. They're a little higher than Ace, right?

According to their (Thunder’s) website, the cast baseplate (Team Edition) variant puts you at 53mm, so same/same when compared to Ace if I’ve got their height correct. 52mm for the forged plates.

The 151s with the team baseplate are 52mm, the 161s with the team baseplate are 53mm. I like the height addition, they know the wide boys want a little deeper turn.

I have a pair of 161 hollow lights. They’re actually really light at 344 grams, which is a little lighter than my indy titanium 169s. They’re good trucks; the pop on them felt really good, the grind felt good, and the turn wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. However, I prefer Indy 169s with bones medium bushings or Ace 55 classics, so I will be giving them to my younger brother.
I mainly skate transition as well, which is why I prefer Ace or Indy. Re: the turn.

I skate 161 Hollow Lights with 1/8" risers. The risers are to compensate for the lower height of the Hollow Lights.
Yes, they don't turn as well as Ace/Indy. However, they feel much more stable than Ace/Indys because of the lower height (edit: and extended axle position) and I like that since I value stability over insane carve (especially when coming back down from bs airs on transition).
It also helps with tech stuff, and grind doesn't feel affected on metal coping. With curbs and the like, the grind is definitely harder but it does help me feel like I'm in more control of my grinds.
Just like any other Thunder model, the bushings suck to break in and it takes time for the turn to really come in.
I guess it just really depends on what you're looking for. Going from Ace to Thunder is going to be a huge difference. You'll sacrifice a lot of turn for stability and more explosive pop feel. I think most people go for Ace/Indy for wider decks because it's tradition and the grind/turn.

Completely agree with your assessment on thunders. Before I skate, I try to remember that Jason Adams looked smooth as a mf when he was on thunders and doing all those slappy variations and I instantly forget about any sacrifice in the turn lol

Agree, have to account for the taper (learned my lesson with 161s and an egg).

currently hv 151s team hollows on the Couch.. saw the 161s hollows on sale, so i just give it a go.

I normally skate Indy 149's on an 8.5. This year I set up a 9' antihero classic eagle, originally set up with ace classic 55's.
I was interested in the thunder 161's so I bought a pair of the hollow lights and they haven't come off since. I have it set up with 56mm Ricta clouds 86a. Its basically a cruiser board that I can also skate street with. I run them stock loose, and don't have wheel bite issues despite being 200lbs.
Its a good truck, I'm enjoying it.
