Rayssa went from less than a million followers to currently at 6 million because of the olympics and is about to pass Tony Hawk at 6.9 million. The new face of skateboarding.

On a smaller scale Alexis Sablone went from 70k to 93k in this week alone. I'm just happy a great representative of skateboarding is finally getting the shine she deserves.
-
Kinda surprising more people didn't see her before but I see where you missed out

Probably just people from Tv, when she was skating in a fairy costume I think people just thought she was cute. .

Similarly, Yuto went from 925k to 1.2mil since last week
-
The new face of skateboarding.
Seriously. Swept away a generation of contest skaters in an evening.

Kind of surreal that someone with a part in WHL is not only relevant in 2021 but still skating at an elite level. Still has one of the best kickflips in the game.

This!!, so sick she is still relevant today, having shoes, parts, good sponsors and even sponsors outside skating (Powerade), as someone stated on Vent city, what are doing now the rest of skaters from WHL now or how relevant they are today.

Checked in with my local shop and April boards have been flying off the shelf, especially Yuto boards. Not quite the case for Alltimers but I'd guess Alexis is being bombarded by media obligations back home. Older skater with a white collar job and competing in the Olympics is sure to garner lots of attention. Loving the career resurgence, right time, right place for the right person. Just wished she stuck with WKND instead of Alltimers.
PJ - still ripping but people still far less popular than the mid-2000s
Ryan Gallant - family man with Visit skateboards

I haven't seen a clip of her since Wknd, and she went from Nb to Cons. .but she was shredding up that parking lot

Right, Imagine dropping this one in the middle of a sesh with your homies. So did you see Rayssa Leal's followers jump from......
-
Consequentially, Nyjah went from 4 million followers to just Monster and Sinner.
-
This kinda representation is great for women’s skateboarding. Just a couple years ago it was rare to see a woman at my local park. Now it feels weird if it’s just dudes
I lurked on here for years. Whenever a female skater got brought up on slap it would instantly turn into a fight. “They all have shit style”, “boring to watch”, “no skill”. Now she’s one of the most watched skaters in the world, and some of y’all are still going to coolguy

Between fake woke grant grilling her on artwork and the johan incident, she had no choice but to leave. Also Alltimers is way better than wknd.

Also, who would want their 9-13 year old daughter out in the streets? In Brazil, no less.

Straight from Alexis:
“It was just kind of time. I was skating for WKND, and doing graphics. I think it was just me and Grant [Yansura] butting heads on some stuff. He’s a good guy, and a friend, but we just weren’t working well together. I don’t know; that was it. I was over it. We got in one fight too many. I loved being on a team with Trevor [Thompson], and like to think that I’m still cool with most of the people that skate for WKND now. But it was time for a change.”

Rayssa performed well under lots of pressure, in a contest that came down to simply sticking tricks, rather than performing the sickest shit. She still has that typical little kid style that’s always kind of annoying to watch, but I’m sure that will change over the next few years. Could definitely end up a real powerhouse, although decent chance she will be a contest jock like Nyjah or Leticia, rather than a more street-oriented skater like the ones most of us Slap users prefer.
On that note, I suspect that the next few years of competitive skating are going to turn into an arms race around a few key high-scoring tricks, like Yuto’s 270 boardslide variations. That’s what happened in snowboarding with the double cork 1270 or whatever the fuck it’s called. People are giving themselves brain damage trying to learn that shit because the whole media and judging apparatus around the olympics feeds on straightforward narratives: “teenage prodigy landed the trick everyone was waiting for!” Oh well.

Upon Rayssa's return home after the olympics, the local government in her hometown wanted to do a photo op with her. She straight up declined saying something along the lines of "you guys never supported me on my journey here after having reached out to them various times for support in the past and receiving no response. So no." This comes after some other Brazilian male skater kooked it by doing a photo op with the Brazilian President , which would be the US equivalent of doing a photo shoot with Trump. She earned her stripes as a "real one" for this move.

Honestly she makes me think a girls skateboarding prime when it comes to stuff like olympic competition is going to be 14-17ish, wether i'm wrong or right though it's going to be cool, either i'm wrong and she's just going to be insanely better then every girl before her OR she's just the first of many young girl skaters who we are going to see dropping hammers.

The thing is we won't have anything to compare to. By the time she is 17 there will be other 13 year olds to replace her. It's already how it's been in women's skating for a while. It will probably be the same for men's too. Turn into college sports or something if you don't make the NBA you just stop at 20 or whatever.

I just meant as far as competing. Sure there will always be guns in their 30s but it's gonna be like a new wave of talent every three years. Good thing is skateboarding doesn't actually need competition so hopefully it leads to trips and street parts and all the rest of stuff pros do.

Am I the only one completely uninterested in miniature groms, male and female, irrespective of how sick they are? I'd much prefer having adult-only competitions rather than watch a bunch of pad babies lacking in personality duke it out. The recent UK National Park Championships was a prime example of this: random groms edging out people like Jordan Thackeray just made for a much less interesting competition, IMO.

I doubt anything changes for the men, the standards are so high that only the absolute freaks could ever physically reach them and the longer primes ensure those freaks not only stay around but also gives them time to raise the standard even more..
With girls the lower standards opens up a lot more competition being able to reach them which you think would increase the standard a ton BUT because the windows are so much shorter they won't be around long enough to stay and raise the bar before they are replaced by one of the many others who reached the bar.

I think you're in the majority. I don't even watch Mariano's video days part. there's probably market research done into who the main groups of people watching comps are and I wouldn't be surprised if it's mainly kids/younger people. Its just becoming a more common trend of parents drop kids off at good skateparks all day. Kids then mainly care about skatepark skating, leading to an interest in contests. Parents don't really understand skating but want to support their kids and contests kinda make sense to them. There's always been these types it's just now there's tons of them.

Has there been any street footage of her? Until I see a street part I just cannot back her at all. Park footy is worthless
