Is there a thread for stuff like this? High quality, cinematic, or thought-provoking/well-written pieces about skating?

I can think of a few examples plus some excellent articles like the Willy Staley Jake Phelps one.

This was a very good watch; every time I saw footage of this dude I couldn't help but wonder why he never broke through, since he just kind of has "it" like few people do.  I'd heard him tell bits of his story elsewhere, like on Loveletters, but this offers a lot of insight I had previously missed.  Also, Birdman got EP credit.  Good for him.

That was really good from all angles. Heavy subject matter, and a very dark part of Canadian history. I’m glad that he made it through many of those battles, and by all accounts is living the life he’s proud of now. He sure has been through hell a couple of times.

His name should be brought up whenever anyone talks about skaters over 40. He’s skating at an impressive level.

Small detail, but I loved that long backside 5-0 at peace park. A balanced 5-0 on a long ledge is one of my favourite sounding tricks.

He was a legend to us as youngsters in the early 2000’s hearing all kinda of crazy shit. Always one of my favourites growing up. Them he moved to Vancouver and I got to know him through the chateau boys when i moved back to Vancouver. Joes is one of the most genuine people innthe game, his kindness and his drive have made a huge difference in native youth culture through Nations. Joe will always be in my top 5 skaters and just humans in general.

Also if anybody feels up to it you can always make a donation to Joes non profit Nations Skate Youth.

Yeah, plus the speed and the IPath's-- so good. Great watch overall-- will try to get ahold of one of those boards.

Those residential schools were so fucked. The fact they discovered 1,000 children in unmarked graves this year alone says it all. Mad respect to Joe for cleaning up and getting back on the board. Great watch.

To my knowledge that was the first trick done the full length of the ledge, and back then nobody much skated the high ledge that he hits right after either. Very epic.

Joe’s pop and power is phenomenal in person - so many spots seem too small for him. He’s also one of those guys who often just does something on the first attempt and then if anyone wants to film it etc it’s hard to capture lightning again. I know that can be frustrating but it’s also a testament to natural ability. In Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and BC there’s endless spots with a Joe Buff legend attached to them. It would be amazing to see a well filmed, full street part from him cause he still has it in him for sure, and I’m pretty sure he’s 45/46 now. I know he’s older than me and I’m 44. This doc was filmed almost 3 years ago, for age reference.

Incredibly powerful. I really appreciated the music selection to tie the past to the present.

Looks like everything is sold out. Keep checking back to see when they re-up to contribute.

Amen.
Meet him once in Vancouver - from the first look you recognize this is an incredible and outstanding Skateboarder.
How natives still got treated all over America - from North /Canada to South /Argentina is a shame.

Really like the new stories told about skateboarders,  the full picture and not only some marketing campaign from
a brand to sell boards, fashion or poison.
