can’t think of any other company he’d fit on

Real?
Also it's a real shame that Clive is of but Loy and Clint are still cashing checks for nothing

Darkstar?

I love me Tony and Birdhouse but I highly doubt anyone's been cashing checks there since the late 2000's.
-
Darkstar?
he’s definitely got the darkstar look
-
Santa Cruz?
-
Essentially Clive of professional skateboarding in general just like that? Can’t think of another company that he fits in on and he’s just getting flowed shoes.
Maybe Clive joining D Loy on Nigel yes men crew?
-
My source says he’s going to Toy Machine.
But fair warning, my source is a pathological liar.

Deathwish?

He’s going to Anti Hero, a perfect fit. He is the brand personified.

Love seeing my alma mater in skate clips.
When I went there almost 20 years ago, I would look at those thin ass rails and wonder if anyone has skated them. The most I'd see anyone skate the campus was the science lecture hall 9-stair.
Now the place is in a ton of clips and videos.

Don't know much about dude--I remember there have been some examples of him being a kooky jock here and there over the years--but what I can say is that at a Birdhouse demo at my local park circa 2013, he landed some genuinely psycho shit that astonished me in a way I don't think I've experienced before or since.
-
I couldn't see him on Krooked

Dead ringer for Brolin in Thrashin'. If I had a company called Hunk Dude Skateboards I'd put this guy on.
-
Man, honestly Clint went as far as he can on birdhouse. I could totally see him on Toy, but they’re pretty stacked these days. I look forward to seeing where he ends up.
Kotr era birdhouse will forever be legendary.
-
He was the 2nd post on Solus and first was Cj so maybe Toy
-
Santa Cruz?
[/squote]
This sounds right. It’s where people go when they don’t fit in anywhere else
-
I've always found him boring but not offensive or distasteful.
-
I’ve spent way too much time coming up with theories about his hair. It just always looks weird to me, no matter the circumstances. It even looks weird when he’s bald, somehow. I don’t think he has any confidence walking in to the barber shop/salon. No idea what to ask for. I know what this feels like because I have it too.
-
Dude can stunt! I can’t think of many that have bangers on staples center, el toro and death defying tank to tank gaps. There has to be a reason dude can’t get a shoe sponsor
-
Bummer he’s of birdhouse and loy is still on.I don’t mind Clive so I hope get don’t get on disorder. I could see him on zero, real (there all kinda Jocky vanilla dudes for the most part. ) toy would be cool. Maybe skate mental revamp? Uma killing it with sleepers?
-
Of Birdhouse on Andy Roy's workout routine.
-
I could see him on Arbor
-
on VIOLET confirmed
-
Toy would definitely make sense. I think his skating is super sick. Always been a fan

I don't understand how you don't know anything about Clive when he's arguably being doing the most death defying skateboarding stunts outside of maybe Milton Martinez. He's a perennial SOTY candidate.

I don't know much about him personality-wise, which I assume is the determining reason as to why he never had a top-flight list of sponsors. I'm well-aware how gnarly he is on a skateboard.

Never forget that he wore a brown belt with black shoes. What an asshole.
-
Toy would be rad. Foundation would fit a little better though.
-
Pretty surprising. Can't really imagine him moving to a brand that wouldn't be a lateral move or a downgrade. Think Clive gets a lot of unwarranted hate, all the interviews he seems like a nice dude. His career would probably look a lot different if he didn't come up through Clint Walker and Birdhouse
-
I heard he’s takin a break from skateboarding to play a young Mitch McConnell for Tubi
-

I kinda have this too. He just has shitty white guy hair. It's not thinning or a weird hairline or anything actually bad there's just nothing you can do with it that looks particularly good.
Also while toy machine historically is cooler than birdhouse I feel like they pay less these days. Do his boards even sell well? Maybe he just got let go but in a nice way.

just have to jump in and say that i’ve met him a few times at parks and he’s honestly such a good dude. like, my judgmental self was fully prepared to not like him but he was so nice & went out of his way to have a genuine convo with all the kids there, not in a corny way either. will forever be a fan.
-
. I could see him on Zero or Black Label
-
I like Clive personally, his recent parts have been insane.
Wonder if he left or was gently pushed? If he left of his own accord I wonder if he has something planned for his next move? A Birdhouse sponsor seems like a safe bet to stick with in terms of getting a cheque.

There's no way he was gently pushed, he puts out more shit than the rest of that team combined
-
Hope he lands somewhere decent, I think he deserves it and I want to continue seeing him do death-defying stuff. But yeah it's hard to see where he would fit. Santa Cruz would at least pay him.

I feel like the few people I talked to always say they don't like him and then continue to describe things Clint Walker did on KOTR, thinking it was Clive. Poor guys career got sabotaged by his shitty friend.
-
santa cruz, enjoi, zero, creature
-
Awkward fits aside I'm starting to really feel bad for Clive. Seems like every year he puts out a solid part with a few legit, memorable hammers yet somehow he's losing sponsors. As someone said he probably puts out more watchable content then the rest of the birdhouse team combined so that makes this move seem all the weirder. Honestly hope he ends up in a better place.
I know slap's concerned with his fashion or music choices but to me his parts are always a fun watch. He is one of the few skaters skating right now where when you see a new part of his posted you know there's going to be some scary shit going down. He's not afraid to go big. He's no Heath but he's in that mold.
What's up with birdhouse anyway? They've been pretty half-assed for years now but the company feels practically inactive at this point.
-
Could see him on Toy or F, maybe Creature too

There's a small part of me that feels like Clive was always just kooky by association due to the current Birdhouse roster. When he was on the Nine Club I was surprised at how reflective and mild mannered he was and was even more shocked to hear that he was several drafts into writing a book (which of course Chris made about himself so there was no follow up information, but I digress). He seems like an alright guy when he's not surrounded by obnoxious assholes like Clint Walker and he's clearly a hard worker so I hope he can flourish without that Birdhouse baggage.
-

I will give them credit for being the last board company that I can remember to put out physical copies of a video. Not too much credit though because the limited run made it so hard to get.

Well they aren't selling like pies however he has 4 boards out right now. I bought his last deck last night

Not hesh enough for Creature. But, IMO, he does fit Santa Cruz.
And with what he's been putting out. He deserves a board sponsor that pays and a shoe deal.

fuck it, i'm saying he goes to deathwish.
he'd fit in! el toro, the water tower, staples center, etc
clive has a deathwish IMO

Clive on Penguin Classics.
-
Could see him on 1031
-
This sounds right. It’s where people go when they don’t fit in anywhere else
That was my first thought. But seriously, the SC is stacked with good skaters right now. They've just got a weird vibe going on...less a team and more just sponsored dudes.
Who's buying Birdhouse decks these days? I'm sure they are selling somewhere.
-
I don't just see him on Santa Cruz. I WANT him on Santa Cruz. He's gnarly and for some reason could see him doing product reviews with Ron Whaley (don't ask me why I can just see it mentally).

I dont get the clive hate. He's seriously so talented on a board and has undeniably done some of the most fucked up things on one. I've ran into him a few times and there's seriously nothing to say bad about him. He's friendly, not socially awkward, intelligent, and seems like an all around good guy. Whoever picks him up will be stoked and i wish the best for him.

in all seriousness, there’s gotta be something about dude that holds him back in a really big way. you don’t get the amount of coverage he does and not ever have a shoe sponsor. dude got multiple thrasher covers and couldn’t get out on a team. there has to be something up with the guy. deathwish and santa cruz seem super far fetched. DW is really trying to highlight a team vibe. imagine clive hanging out with jamie foy or taylor kirby, it just seems so awkward. the only companies i could see him on are zero or flip or some other completely dead in the water brand

I think Tony is on record in saying that Birdhouse is a passion project, and that any money that is made from sales goes back into the company and the riders, so he's not really taking any profit. Birdhouse has been weird (not in a good way) for 20 years.
-
i feel like everyone on birdhouse but lizzie disappeared

i’m betting on disorder. toy/foundation don’t make sense or fit and definitely don’t pay more than birdhouse. if anything else darkstar, blind or santa cruz maybe.

Someone else mentioned Deathwish above, I like that idea, could see him fitting in well with Dickson etc
Plus with Lizard King gone that frees up a pro salary...

switching from Hawk to Nyjah would be a downgrade...

I wouldn't be that surprised if birdhouse started phasing their whole team out (apart from Lizzie). They've done it a few times in the past and I think hawk kinda likes being seen as a mentor/supporting the next gen.

It's kind of amazing that Raybourn is still on the team. I hope he dusts himself off and comes out swinging. I am not yet tired of the "sober skater" redemption arc.

Looks to be riding a blank board that says hard body at Tampa.
(Altho I could be wrong it's mad early here and my eyes hurt)

Uma if he chooses the righteous path, Disorder if he chooses the dark path

I still think about that flat ground kickflip in his last part.
And the Staples noseblunt is one of the heaviest tricks to go down ever.
Hope he goes somewhere he gets paid well, deserves it.

Elliot Sloan and Shawn Hale are sick, I think Jaws deserves his name on a board forever whether or not his body will let him skate, and I hope and pray every day that Ben will make a return (although it's pretty easy to tell that he's over skating professionally for good since he ghosted the industry so hard that Tony fuckin' Hawk needs to publicly reach out to people on social media to be able to contact him), but yeah I wouldn't give two shits if the rest of 'em lost their boards

I can see him on Black Label ,Blood Wizard or Slave

Can confirm.

HardBody is one of the last boards I would have expected him to be riding, but can't imagine he's skating it ironically.
-
I think a lateral move to DeathWish would be smart and work, he coule take Rowley's empty spot on flip. I feel like he can only move up
-
if he gets on Hardbody that would be the funniest/sickest shit ever
-
Goddamn, are we gonna see Clive Dixon skating the TF with Kevin Tierney and going on double dates with Chachi?
Only time will tell.
-
I really like Clive and he's generally not the type of skater I follow. Defintely deserves some solid sponsors.
-
Could see him on Monarch.

Flip would be perfect if he were 15 years younger

Anyone seen that new mysterious Zero ad in new Thrasher? The pants look like that’s our former Birdhouse pro, his last graphic for BH looks very Zero-ish. This Slap poster thinks we cracked the code but inside sources confirmed otherwise. It could be a red haring story to get us off the trail. Zero “Painkiller” video will be a rad one, either way.

Zero “Painkiller” video will be a rad one, either way.
i cant imagine youd ever want to leave birdhouse for zero. your chances of getting paid more are crazy low, even if bh doesnt have the zero image i feel like youd be able to do more with tony as your boss.
I would absolutely prefer Tony to Jamie as far as the boss situation goes

I'm not a big fan of Jamie Thomas personally, but have to say he's been pretty smart about reissuing boards and with his garage days stuff. I've seen full drops of boards sell out at the local shop too.If he's putting that money back into the company and the riders, I'd say the riders do OK. Not sure where the argument for 'crazy low' comes from. Zero was on rough ground for a while there, but they seem to be doing much better now.
Also Tony is an incredibly busy guy. He's not on the phones brokering deals for Reese Salken & Shawn Hale.

If I were a hammer style skater, the likes of Clive, it would be high water mark to be a company like Zero or with Rowley at Freedom. Not unlike if you’re a tech skater you’d want to be on Girl. Birdhouse is right up there too in its own way. It’s probably time for Saulkin and Ed Duff to go pro and Clive will get to enjoy a jolt of new sponsor energy for some fresh board sales.

All’s I’m saying, in regards to the Birdhouse to Zero theory, is Birdhouse is maybe a little more a Classic Rock, and maybe Zero is Heavy Metal, and that’s more Clive’s style. And I based the high water comment on the body of work of the companies as a whole. So maybe I’m not living in 2002, but I look at skating from when I started in 1990 til now, and base said claims on this.
The hard copy skate video age shapes what I base these claims on. The digital content age is good and all but doesn’t pack the same punch. Birdhouse is a high water mark company too, see The End. It’s like Robert Trujillo switching from ST to Metallica. Awesome talent takes you awesome places. We will see the same with Clive.

I kinda always liked that Duffel didn't skate famous spots that much. If you go back to the parts he put out in his prime there are spots that still haven't been touched to this day. Or some that took a really long time to one up. Obviously there are examples of this with Clive too but as far as "gnar" skaters go they kinda take up two different slots in my mind.

So maybe just skating for himself, and just enjoying life and skating in private?

Hold the f up, do you actually think Clive's noseblunt was done with bad style? Holy shit, do you need to be locked up in the psych ward for that! Clive did it with power and style, that not many others could offer with even 5050ing or nose sliding Convention Center (it's next to Staples, not Staples as a general FYI for people) Hubba. Is his style on a board everyone's cup of tea? No. But I'll be damned if Clive's workhorse hucking in skating doesn't get some respect it deserves.

nah, corey duffel and clive dixon have both done things that wouldn't/won't be touch(ed) for years to come but in the early/mid 2000s every third kid wanted to be corey duffel. he had an influence on the trajectory of skateboarding during that era and contemporary pros are still claiming him as an influence. clive could never match that.
edit: i would honestly compare him to jeremy wray if anything
Corey is great but Clive Noseblunt down staples center that's some legendary shit.
Corey duffel 50'd a 20 stair wooden hubba that took the life of a bmxer... there's a bench at the bottom in memorium. The whole walnut creek/ eastbay area is called "duffland". Kids dressed like him for 10+ years.
One trick with bad style at staples center is nothing compared to duffel's legacy.
gotta be trolling lol the guy wears costumes when he skates.
can corey duffle even do a noseblunt? every part is just 5050's and lipslides. basically clive dixon warm up tricks.
-
you seem like the type of person who’s a terrible person
-
By this logic, jeff won song is on the same trajectory as reynolds... with 0/5th of the style or charisma.
sure it was clean, but clive dixon's skating is gross.
.....Nah

Anyone have a clip/video of this?

I don't really care who is the better skater, because that's irrelevant to the question, but come'on - Dixon's impact and legacy do not compare remotely to Duffel's. Duffel was a gigantic figure in skating at one of the peaks of the sport's popularity, and there were a number of years where every kid in skating dressed and attempted to skate like him. Duffel is just more popular that Dixon ever was or will be, no matter what you think about whether or not he deserves to be.

I used to picture how sick it would be to have Duffel riding with the baker guys.
Duffel deserves his flowers.

that era of dudes wearing leather jackets and listening to weak entry level punk rawk was so washed…

exactly. dudes in here acting like this was rad
the clive/richie belton comparison is spot on

Lol what?! That's one of the most inaccurate exaggerations of someone's influence I've ever heard. Sure, lots of places had a few kids who were into that Tum Yeto look (California obviously had more), but in all my travels (during that era as well) that was never the most prominent look and I would also never credit that look solely to Duffel. I saw way more kids who were clearly influenced by the Baker dudes dressing in that style vs Duffel. Duffel is a fucking beast and he's hit some unreal spots, but dude actually had super knock knee style and an air of kookiness hanging over him, partially due to the infamous racist quote fiasco. If anything I'd say he's gotten more respect post-prime.
"every kid in skating", c'mon. ;D

all the best to this dude imo. just a really good skateboarder.
- was it clive or clint that 5-0'd that unthinkably huge University of Florida Hubba that goes straight into the ground? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? it was in some random edit. Whoever did that I respect unconditionally for life

there were plenty of people who did the tight pants thing in the 2000s but if you're looking for a single name, it's corey duffel. the fact that you have to pit his influence against an entire team kind of proves how massive he was.
also he does a noseblunt in his osiris part
He also does a FSNB in his Destroy Everything part. Saving those noseblunts for the shoe sponsors

The pants that started the tight pants era were the krew Reynolds pants and Greco pants or the volcom Dollin jeans I’ve never heard of ppl wearing duffel pants. That’s not even a debate it’s simply facts.

Maybe duffel wore his pants a bit tighter…he didn’t wear underwear, he mentioned that in an interview. I can’t believe I remember that and I’m still talking about this topic like 20 years after.
-
Maybe this belongs in the awkward skatepark encounters thread, or some such, but I’m gonna put it here anyways, on account of it seems relevant to this here discuss.
Back in the early 2000’s, when I was still working for a bay area based manufacturer/distributor, I used to stop off at the Alameda skateboard gymnasium regularly as part of my post-work decompression routine.
I have a clear recollect of a couple of occasions, within a week’s timeline, that I came across a young lady, in her early teens, wearing tight, girl’s cut pants, a short leather jacket, Joan Jett hair & heavy eye make up, blasting insanely floaty l, glue footed ollies all over the park, laying down wild tricks all over the place. This kid was gooooood. She had style and exhibited supreme board control. Shit was wild.
It wasn’t too much after that, I realized that THAT young lady was, in fact, Corey Duffel.
Imagine my surprise.
Anyways, Duffel is an extreme corn dog, but I will always hold a modicum of respect for that gnarly girl who absolutely crushed that shitty park like (s)he owned it, when there was nobody else but me around.
I’m not even trying to compare Clive & Corey, just adding that little seasoning to an already amusing thread topic.
Peace be with you.

I remember that era pretty vividly because I was a Baker Boy and my best friend was Corey Duffel’s #1 fan and Duffel’s look was well solidified before the Baker dudes started having signature pants. I’m not saying he started the tight jean thing obviously but it was a phenomena well before those guys had signature clothes… I know because we had to buy girl jeans because no one was making pants that tight in men’s sizes (Lolol). When the Reynolds jeans finally started coming out I had already been getting bullied for wearing girl pants for like two summers. Obviously people weren’t wearing Duffel’s actual signature pants, he didn’t have a clothing sponsor until well after that and when he did it was on Split and no one wanted to buy their pants because it was Split, but go back and watch his clips in that ‘01 and ‘02 era, his punk style is in full effect and a lot of those dudes were just transitioning into their tight jean style.
This is the gayest thing I’ve ever posted by far, can’t believe you guys baited me into this

He should rebrand his image. It worked well for TJ Rogers. I was thinking that it would have been way sicker to see him switch 360 Wallenberg now than a few years ago while wearing a RDS tee and some ill fitting pants.
I think Clive could do something like, idk, Cromer-like. Switch up the pants, the brands, the music, and go fuck up New York spots. Not to say Brad Cromer was ever not cool, but maybe it's the making it out of Florida, away from California, and into New York thing that got me thinking that.

Haha I get it and but I think the pants work out for him. I think the big tee, tight-ish pants phase of the mid to late 2000s was goofier though. I'd rather watch him now than then.

It begs the question: should tony just can birdhouse? I’d say it’s been around long enough, tony certainly doesn’t need the money (if birdhouse is even profiting anymore, I doubt it), and it’s image (whatever it was) expired long ago.

Being a guy with shitty white guy hair, it kinda sucks. Anything between shaved head and long hair looks stupid. I’ve always envied the guy with cool shaggy hair
