Title: Like it’s the 1920’s or something
Post by: Freelancevagrant on October 15, 2021, 09:24:56 AM
Based on @ok boomer @Seventyfuhkinseven and me constantly posting shit in the post your fit thread I thought we should have a dedicated place for cool work related type shit. Yeah, work blows but sometimes you get to do cool shit.

So if you got a new fork lift, or new boots, got a raise, or some other cool shit happened, post it up! Also, if you’re needing to vent or wanting advice on how to deal with shit related to work, also please share.

Not new but some random old job I had was basically just breaking shit.
It started as doing landscaping/cleanup on building sites but somehow turned into I'd just turn up and they'd point out like curbs, retaining walls, footpaths etc that they wanted gone and I'd just put on my goggles and headphones and hulk out.
I had this big duffel bag full of different sledge hammers and crow bars and these two big crowbars one about 3-4 feet and the other almost 6 feet with a point on one side and a ball on the other end like the size of a softball. I never bought a single tool they were all found when I'd cleanup sites after construction had finished.
Unfortunately the job turned somehow turned into bushfire prep for schools and the boss fucking sucked so I stopped

New favorite thread! Where I live you got to get creative to keep the lights on..here's some things I did this past year. From my food truck, to remodeling the bank in town with my wife into an Air BnB..concrete foundations and a timber frame gazebo at a campground. In years past I was a logger, equipment operator, truck driver and even a bus driver. Unfortunately at 44 years old all this shit is destroying what I have left for tricks, I just want to skate while my body still works.

^ that is awesome!!!!!

I just happen to have my detachable-sleeves-hi-viz jacket here from my previous job (the brewery I worked at in NZ).
I worked in the warehouse initially - shipping (all forklift certified work). Then I had the options of team leader or inventory controller - went for inventory control and loved that. I was basically an alcohol detective. When counts were off, I'd have to re-count all inventory of that product and then go through past orders to see where the errors were made. Also, I was in charge of the fleet of forklifts - daily checks and getting the maintenance done on them all. Love this jacket - took this home and still use it for cold ass outdoor work

Cabinetmaker/installer by trade.. but now I’m mostly just protecting walls and building stalls.  All that random stuff you see in non-residential buildings and wonder who the hell even does that?

As far as tools go, my company thankfully supplies all the fancy Hilti/Milwaukee laser levels and saws and whatever I need.  But I swear this Olfa knife with the metal tab on the end is the most useful thing;

And for work boots, Blundstone is the only option anymore.  I know they don’t fly on some job sites, but I never want to have to wear big clunky lace up boots again.  These are so much more comfortable;

What's the work situation like up in norcal

I don't know, man. Used to be pretty easy to get work on a farm and it paid well too. $20/hr was starting rate for labor. If you connected with someone and were a good worker, it was too easy. Since prop64, there's actually been a pretty harsh economic decline in the already declining economies of the emerald triangle. No more logging. No more fishing. No more weed.

Where I'm at is gentrifying pretty hard and in the next 10 years, as it becomes more and more a part of California as opposed to a rural outpost, it could very well end up a techier sort of place. Unless you're already well off and work fully remotely or live off family $$, there's not much here other than the beauty. There are some folks working for the last vestiges of the timber companies- lots of folks get out of the local university and end up working as biologists whose findings prop up the timber companies legal abilities to clear cut what have the potential to be the greatest carbon sinks on the planet (redwood forests).

Anyways, there's not a ton of work. Plenty of cashier, server, store type jobs, but other than that, I don't really know. Seems like most of the people working on the books farm work are making $15 or less without bennies.

Honestly, I don't know what the fuck a lot of people do to survive.

Some more logging pictures. Working 80-90 hours a week was tough and very very hardcore but fun. The last picture of a jackknifed truck shows how easy things can get fucked up. Looks like a 1/2" of snow but it is glare ice. In that case the truck came down a hilll backwards at about 30 mph. I will find my collection of rollover pictures somewhere. If you fuck up in the winter in the mountains where I live, there's a good your getting hurt/killed or at causing hundreds of thousands in damage. I have more trucking stories than anyone would ever want to hear.

Edit: added a picture of someone that panicked and used his brakes, that's a rookie move. That fool made that 14 hour Saturday day into a 16 hour day. I was so pissed.

Working two jobs currently to pay for school, one in food service and the other is a maintenance position at the University’s parking division.

Usually just doing janitorial work, repairing gate arms, setting up road signs, etc etc.

Here’s a pic of me on this wonderful Sunday morning tasked with cleaning up the messes tailgaters left behind yesterday. Shoutout the Bearcats for being #3 in the nation tho!

I wanted to take a video cause they were jumping the crane today, I always like watching that

What they do is the crane grows with the building, they wind these hydraulic things on the crane and manually raise it, then the crane lifts up some mast from ground and they put it together again

But I got 86’d from up there pretty fucken quick lol, the whole place is an exclusion zone when they’re doing that stuff

They’re mad hammers ay
Haven’t got one but seen their website and saw ONE in the wild here maybe five years ago
Those good light ones are like $500 here, no shit

Are they heaps cheaper in states maybe someone could send me the nail puller/prybar and a hammer if I pay upfront

What are some other dope USA hand tool brands?
I heard proknee make the best knee pads, we don’t have anything here like that

excellent thread all--and i love the photos...so much integrity and who would have thought there were so many rugged, hard-working hunks lurking in the forums.

i love teaching, so i'm not going to say i miss the industrial/warehouse/manufacturing jobs i've fleetingly had over the years, but especially in a fall semester, when i'm teaching multiple classes, at different universities--and sitting on my ass in my office/bunker way too much--i do miss working with my hands and body.

i also really miss just good everyday working people...fuck, are academics--especially in the Humanities--a drag and self-absorbed, unhappy, attention-starved, and they have no sense of humor....

...like when you ask an oldtimer working a manufacturing job, if today is Tuesday, and he answers:

"all day"

i miss that kind of genuine, down-to-earth talk that goes down when people take pride in themselves, their work, and their coworkers.

Factory mechanic here, I work for one of Canada’s biggest furniture manufacturers. Love this thread.

Since last Friday, I’ve been working a big maintenance and saftey overhaul project on a giant 20-year old Holzma panel saw affectionately known as “The Big Bastard”.

Bascially had to change every single air hose (close to 100 of ‘em), change every sensor inside and out (both lasers and ultrasonic), had to change some wiring, did some maintenance on the 5 hydraulic lifts, added 3 extra emergency killswitches and the worst of all: we changed the computer and have to re-program everything in AutoCAD.

I’ve started reprogramming all the plans in AutoCAD one by one with an engineer today, the worst part is the testing. Some are easy and can be nailed on the first try. Certain things have a tolerance of max +/- .5 mm, so you have to be quite on the ball or it can take a long-ass time to get it right. If you fuck up, chances are your sensors aren’t right so you have to re-tweak them ever so slightly. Most likely will still be working on AutoCAD tomorrow and Thursday as well.

It’s a lot of work, but I love what I do honestly.

Your friends are right, the major pain in the ass is the testing, especially when the Big Bastard can do three different operations at once, so three different kinds of cuts, three different quantities with three independant exits. There’s also a question of the trimming as well, you trim off 1mm too much then all your pieces will be too small and won’t be accepted, and each plan has a different trimming proccess. Lots of trial and error honestly. MAJOR pain in the ass, at least the engineer is cool as shit and looks like Otto from the Simpsons.

Sick pool Matty, is that the Broadbeach Casino ? I used to drive in front of it all the time when I went to skate Pizzy.

Logging looks heaps interesting

I am working on this casino in Broadbeach, I went up top for photos just now

That view takes me back, I used to live around there (Swingin' Safari) working a door-knocking job. Desperate but fun times, even spent some nights (though not a dime) at that very casino. Had my first surf a stone's throw from there too, when a surprise storm arose and I nearly didn't make it out of the water. I thought I was a goner and my mad Kiwi friend nearly died laughing at my panic.

On topic, I'm one of those glued to screens for money as well, envious of those working outside with their hands. Romanticizing their toil, no doubt. Considering a logging side-gig at the moment, as it happens. Plenty of demand for it, what with gas prices surging. Pays well too. Would you loggers out there recommend or no? Nice thread.

I'm not forklift certified, but I am a Certified Legal Video Specialist (CLVS).  Which basically means I've been trained to videotape depositions for civil litigation, and some criminal stuff but not much.  I work mainly in office for a court reporting company (Stenographers) assigning other videographers and doing post production work on depositions they've covered, but occasionally I'll get out and shoot one myself.  Meet some interesting characters, and some not very interesting, and my boss lets me buy nice video gear occasionally (he said it's not to get clips though for some reason).

the boss left a bunch of new barspoons and there's new liquor to try out.

i made some apple-cinnamon sirup to mix em up in rye old fashioneds, it's gonna be sick.

i'm not gonna be working like the 20s though, i think i fucked my back up during work and got to see the doc after the weekend. actually worrying about it being a disc issue. i have to let my coworkers handle the heavy lifting for now.

probably going to get in 20 hours of work between my two shifts from friday to saturday. i really hope i am not too dead by sunday haha. i have this vague hope that i might get promoted to manage the bar instead of standing behind it all the time. well i told my boss i need to take a step back due to health and school and he understood but also said he doesn't know what to do if i'd quit. i wrote the drinks menu, invented two house drinks, chose the liquor, basically determined the opening concept in so far there is any. we are super understaffed. i unsuccessfully tried to get one of my friends in, which sucks. the boss and him have a troubled backstory and it's not happening.

Nah I get that for sure and that's how it is for everyone but the way my nervous system reacts just makes it unbearable and I can't drag myself into a work situation even though money obvsiously helps. I've been in work bathrooms cutting myself and I force my way through a lot too but it reaches a point where it's just unsafe.

Lol seeing a post like that would've got me through a shift but I took the day off and got fired without warning or a talk or anything.

that fucking sucks.

i did call center jobs and got fired, too. i wasn't too mad, since i hated it. but those situations when you can't really go to work due to anxiety or depression, then you get fired and then you have even more anxiety because you are broke and can't even leave the house to look for another job. i know that shit, it's so frustrating and has been a big part of my life for periods.

i found that working in public as barkeeper or in retail has made me more resilient so i can handle the anxiety 95% of the time and my longest kept job is at this bar i've been working at for 5 years now. i'm not really the type extroverted barkeep, but i am so familiar with the place and its guests by now, which makes it very bearable for me.

i had a seasonal stint as a commis de range that was basically me having a 4 month long panic attack due to crazy shifts and sleep deprivation.

I think call centres are tough

Full worked for Telstra back in the day it was pretty good just answering phones nah it was actual sick, they had api bar upstairs on fridays, tennis courts on the other roof and a fat gym
Pretty much got in on the tail end of the last hurrah of a particular union
They ended up just sacking everyone and setting up call centres in ph as you do, but after that fully did a couple years in like mid 2000s in shitter call centres, was ringing up cunts for ge money like when they hadn’t paid their credit card

I was used to a particular way of doing that job I suppose and they were always like you’re not making good payment arrangements and I never said it but I though fuck it’s not my money these cunts owe and they pay was shitter so I didn’t care it was a full shitter job they sacked me just after New Years like fully walked me off the floor I was spewing cause I’d spent all my money on New Years and they said we were gonna sack you last month but it was Christmas
They probably did the right thing walking me off the floor, protected me and them with their rows of computers lmao
I was so upset ay it was fully humiliating

After that sold $80 phone plans to pensioners, outbound for like a fifth of what Telstra were paying me
That job fucking sucked

I look back at that shit I mean I probably blacked a bunch out but I was pretty much on le bender the whole time back then I’m just trying to say I see you Sila
Those call centres are horrid mate

What are your expenses can you just get on cennos for a bit do some courses that are in line with what you want to do and go from there
That’s what it’s there for, ay

I uhh edited it cause I said they’re instead of their

That's my job, too. We get monitored for schedule adherence and I shirk as much as I can possibly get away with. Being on-call constantly is anxiety-inducing for sure. Can only imagine having to cope with that in your case. Sorry to hear it, but you'll find something better man!

I photoshopped the pictures on the screens just dicking around, but the gear in the photos is real. I don't own it personally but I got to pick it all out and spend my bosses money on it.  We just videotape witnesses being asked questions by lawyers,  but sometimes I get to produce video ads for the business and other projects so I can let the creative juices flow.

I worked a call centre job for 3 weeks, I was the annoying prick that called you about your insurance.

It’s been 5 years and I still have dreams about it, I hated it that much even if the money was good. I showed up one morning, sat at my desk with my coat on, didn’t turn my computer on, and just left without telling anyone.

I got my factory job a week later, it was supposed to last a few months so I could find something better, but it’s been 5 years and don’t see myself leaving anytime soon. They even paid me to go to trade school so I could become one of their mechanics.

I was in retail from 16 to 27, worked 3 weeks in a call centre and almost went nuts. Factory work may be a little boring at first, but I’ve never had such a stress-free job. Never once have I gotten up in the morning thinking “aw fuck not again”. I will never return to a customer service job.

It’s crazy what a change of scenery can do for someone.

I worked in inside sales from 23-33. My last day my 4th manager in three years printed out a binder’s worth of website searches (no porn) and plopped them on the table in front of me. I was fired and then he escorted me from the premises. He was let go less than a year later when the office moved to NE. Inside sales is a mind fuck. 100 calls, 10 conversations, 2 closes. All day , 40 hours a week. Im going to throw up now…

I been carpooling with a mate that’s doing this job a couple blocks away, cunts job got shut down so he went home early

I finished 2.5 hours ago but put off the public transport, now I’m wasted and I got this tram to a bus stop, headed to a train station to take me back to Brisbane

This some 1920s shit for sure, 3.5 hours of public transport to get home
If I didn’t have a dog I woulda just stayed at one of those backpacker joints and dealt with going home tomorrow

Got the rums but so it’s chilling
(https://i.ibb.co/2gwbZYs/CF0-F123-F-6-DF2-41-BF-8621-72-A4-A8862-F47.jpg) (https://ibb.co/0hkwsVF)

Don’t even have a Wendy on me, pretty shit ay
That’s a joint

Edit

Fuck man, I’m on the wrong bus wtf

Get yourself home in one piece Matty.

I wasn't even doing sales on the phone it was market research but they got on my case for logging out two minutes early and stuff like that what a sad world

I’ll be right cheers mate I got off and got Uber to train station

Call centres and qa was a long ass time ago but the shit they like to see is low aht and low wrap

Best bet is just make the cunt wait on the line while you do your shit
Spin some bullshit to them like I’m just initialising your shit you gotta stay on the line so the changes go through properly, I’ll get back to you when it’s done
If you properly sold em on the features and benefits you got em and they’ll wait
Pensioners 100% used to believe that

Fuck this brought back bad memories I fully attempted to unlearn all that sales bullshit a long time ago

I don’t wanna talk about call centres anymore

Fucked my trainer or well she fucked me more like, I went to hers one arvo and fully got blackout drunk
She wasn’t even that pretty I fully thought she just wanted to buy weed
Call centres are shit as
I’m not having a dig but I’d go to jail for doing that to a young girl
wtf
Don’t do it, Sila

100 calls lmao last time I checked still got the tsa national record for the most phone plans sold on outbound in a day
I had no money that day and I bet the team leader 100 bucks i could do 20 recontracts in a work day, ended up on 41 that was over fifteen years ago and ten years ago it still stood
Cunt didn’t even have money I lost my shit and made his missus get it out on her credit card

I walked out of there feeling like I was on drugs
Couldn’t sleep that night just rushing
That shit makes you manic it’s fucked

Outbound wed just burn leads you can tell off how they answer if it’s gonna be easy or hard you wanna cherry pick that shit, if the answer and they sound like a fuckwit best bet is to hang up and log it as an answering machine

LOL

That’s why they got so pissed, cause the dialler just kept trying to call them!
Feedback loop lmao

Call centres are like facehuggers
Nuke the site from orbit
It’s the only way to be sure

Edit

This is fucked but I was a kid, so I needed an abn for those dodge call centres
Fully didn’t have one just looked up the registry for a cunt with my name and used his abn
Yeah, never paid any tax on that shit, ever
Other bloke would have though, he must have

I tried to block a lot of this out but this thread got some shit coming back

I got a bonus in cocaine one Christmas
Thought it was cool at the time, jokes on you Matty

I am in technical sales for a manufacturing company and it’s not all bad. I get to visit production facilities and work with engineers. If selling is helping someone select the right product then you feel better about yourself.

Always be nice to telephone sales people that call your house. It really helps them get through the day.

Just got a 13k raise because I found out another engineer I’m training got hired at 10k more than my salary. Always discuss salary with coworkers.

It actually sucks though because I hate my job and finding something tolerable that pays the same is going to be very difficult.

Be careful, some people are actually really fucking good and although I have some skills as an engineer, I lack in other areas that I didnt want to work on.  I got hired as one with no formal engineering degree, and I always kept being told it was because I didnt have a degree which was the biggest crock of shit

A week away from finishing my 3rd year carpentry apprenticship course, one step closer to that Red Seal status (Canada).

Back to the rainy coast in November to finish framing the second floor of a sizeable house and get the roof on, almost wished I had set it up so that I could be in the warm classroom/shop for a month and a half during the cold wet season but with all this free time I have been able to skate for upwards of 3hrs every day and my skate game has gotten significantly better as a result. Coming back to a raise is always nice as well.

I seldom leave the wooden toy banter forum so I'm stoked to have came across this. Cheers to my fellow 1920's workers.

Can't argue with you there.

It’s feral out of the bottle, used to save money and just get the bottle and mix it myself with coke but by the end of it you’ve got the mixes backwards, just like all rum and a bit of coke for colour and you’re fucked

That time I lost it on here went nutty on everyone I was on them and it was a mad storm, I ran out of booze and the dog wanted to come for a walk so I walked through this estate to the tavern and it was dark as fuck and storming, full made it through this flooded creek thing in my thongs like holding the hand rail as hard as I could and I had the dog in other arm it was probably up to knees but coming back was sketchy cause I didn’t have enough hands for the bottle
It was all good but if I dropped my dog maybe she would have been gone, idk if I could have got her
Only fuck with the cans now

The cans are much safer
They make some much better stuff like with a cork instead of the screw top, it’s way better you can drink it straight

Their ginger beer is pretty good too hey @DaleSr

hell yeah, brother. head popped right off. push rods seems straight too. shouldn't have had to do this but the previous owner did a bunch of dastardly shit with the exhaust there was a crack in the head top rear drivers side stud, so off comes the head. took about 90 minutes. now I gotta clean the carbon outta the piston. compression had been real low in cylinder one, so the build up is thick as a brick. real easy fix on the compression tho. tuned up those valves a 1/4 turn and it went from 60 to 140. wasn't really looking forward to the 1.9 engine swap during rainy season. hopefully this head swap works out a little easier.

Dope jumpsuit, things appeared to come apart ok huh?
[close]

hell yeah, brother. head popped right off. push rods seems straight too. shouldn't have had to do this but the previous owner did a bunch of dastardly shit with the exhaust there was a crack in the head top rear drivers side stud, so off comes the head. took about 90 minutes. now I gotta clean the carbon outta the piston. compression had been real low in cylinder one, so the build up is thick as a brick. real easy fix on the compression tho. tuned up those valves a 1/4 turn and it went from 60 to 140. wasn't really looking forward to the 1.9 engine swap during rainy season. hopefully this head swap works out a little easier.
Perfect man.. Gotta love it when a plan comes together! I'm vaccinating 50 bison today with my wife's cousins, I can't wait to show you guys some pictures tonight. This is fucking insanity!

I spent at least 6 hours up on the staging corralling 49 other bison with this asshole acting like this within a few feet of me. I climbed down to take a picture before we put him in the trailer of doom.

It starts with my buddy in a skid steer pushing them (not physically) in the general direction they need to go then someone in a pickup continues to keep them running the same direction. Eventually they make their way into a series of corrals. As they enter me and my wife run along that staging opening and slamming close the doors to each section. Bulls can't be with calves etc. and ideally they should all be separated asap for their safety. So you must move extremely quickly. Mind you They are very very displeased as this process is happening and are fighting like hell to get out. The last staging area is a small "squeezing" cage where they are trapped for vaccinations and ear tagging , some are checked to see if they are pregnant as well. The act of taking these amazing creatures from roaming in 25 acres into a 10'x2' cage is phenomenal. It is hard to put into words what the process actually is, hopefully that kind of made sense. It is up there with some of the most dangerous shit I have ever done. And unfortunately my dumbass does that a lot.

They are very intense during this process, otherwise stoic is very accurate. Unless the bulls are in heat or angry, then all bets are off.

The one in this picture is a young bull, hard to believe but he is small compared to the two main bulls (idk what the actually call them. They are fucking huge. Yes unfortunately he was going to the slaughterhouse. I don't know how or why they pick who goes. So you are absolutely correct Matty they are for meat.
Edit: I just asked why they pick which bull goes and it's mostly if they aren't producing sperm. So if they ain't banging and growing the heard they are sent away. I usually don't ask much about that process because it's kinda disheartening.

At the end of the day i had to unload a semi truck full of pvc pipe for irrigation. Big bundles of 20 ft long pvc is already a nightmare in perfect conditions and it's currently pouring rain down here in socal. A complete nightmare. Dropped one but didn't do any damage.

Do you get paid for four hours if you get sent home? Like a minimum to show up or nah?

I’m not trying to flex bro it’s not like that but you should be billing cunts for 4 hours even if you get sent home cause they like, engaged you for the day
The weathers not your problem, ay

The best test is like am I doing some other cunts bidding right now or am I doing my own bidding
I don’t mean bidding like tender I mean like am I doing what I want or what my boss wants
If it’s what the boss wants then someone’s gonna pay for that shit it’s not gonna be me and it shouldn’t be you mate

i am again on the verge of quitting or getting fired, not sure.

i am constantly fighting with my boss over shift times. so i have two consecutive shifts that are planned to be 8 hours, but they come out at 10-12 every time. so in a timespan of 48 hours i am working almost 24 at the bar for him. i am a student now and students here are only allowed to work 20 hours a week. we are severly understaffed and i am doing overtime to no end. meanwhile my studies are suffering because my boss is stressing me out to run a whole place for him.

i've been asking for weeks to be taken out of this shift, and after initial confirmation, he just continues to leave me in there saying he hasn't enough workers to fill it.

my coworker and i (we are just two people running a whole club) are pretty burned out on this shit, thinking about just quitting together, which would mean severe loss of profit for them. they'd be unable to open the thing without us. it's like a cold war. he's not getting us people and he's not making any decisions concerning opening times to make things easier. he just expects us to just come, since in his head we are obliged to, i guess.

on top of that i got to get my spine checked out for a herniated disc, and it doesn't concern him that i have been in pain for weeks now. i still have to carry shitloads of beverageboxes and do storage logistics and shit. today i almost lost all tact and was about to just write "fuck you dude, i'm done"

This building has topped out so it’s like the final floor has been poured and the roofs on pretty much

They always have a mad party when this happens, I’m hyped

We’re gonna do four hours tomorrow and everyones stopping work to have a mad party it’s gonna be sick
It’s a good time for it, we all got Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday off so that’s heaps of time to recover ahaha

Haven’t been to one in a few years but usually after a couple hours everyone’s drunk and the bags come out, you see cunts smoking joints in the stairwells and shit

This is maybe a bit old school but they got these strippers coming in, too, like a full show
That’s a weird one hey cause there’s heaps of ladies that are tradespeople too
They’re not getting in boy strippers for them or anything

It’s gonna be sick!

What’s going on, fellow workers?

I’m back from El Paso and back on route. Its good to be back for the time being. But, while I was gone someone was driving my truck and they fucked it all up, left trash all over it, and who ever was on my route while I was gone did a dog shit job and I’ve gotta get it back to how I like it.

But we did get new uniforms and they are hella comfortable. I also took some before and after videos of the mess that the dude running my route left me. I’m not going to lie. I’m posting this off one of those Balinese day beds

Should probably get up at some point and mow that grass and clean up a bit

The bro’s kelpie pissed on my shirt just now so I had to wash it the piss off and it’s drying on that chair

Gotta go to work tomorrow but it’s already gonna be Thursday so just two days and weekend again

But I reckon I got fucked over there like an admin mistake cause I live in Brisbane but working down here, I couldn’t be fucked complaining but other mates got the Friday off too for the show day holiday which was supposed to be in August but cause of lockdown they cancelled the public holiday and said we’d get it after lockdown

This jobs pretty flat stick anyway so it will be good to get in for two days this week and get some shit done

@matty_c Dude fuck yes!! In a lot of ways I’m pretty similar, but I’m just a big dude with no lisp and a mullet and I drive around listening to hardcore punk all day. I watched the trailer for that a while back and forgot to tell you how much I fucking loved it and can’t wait to see all of it. I think that dude does a great job of showing what this job is like, you’re doing a thankless job for people that do thankless jobs. But it’s job security, every day is different but still kind of predictable, you get to see your hard work that not many people would be willing to do, and you’re not micromanaged unless you’re seriously fucking up. I love it. “You’re a glorified turd burglar!” That’s what I say to my guys all the time and I call my truck the turd bird hahahah

@Seventyfuhkinseven Dude I don’t get it either, but for some reason people love just demolishing them. They love shitting in the urinal, puking on the toilet paper, shitting all over the seat and on the floor, and throwing beer cans, towels, underwear and all sorts of shit in the bowl. I sucked up a towel yesterday a few hours after that post and it clogged my hose up. I had to fix it and I got shit all over my new uniform. I bleached myself of and bathed in hand sanitizer until I could get back to the shop. It can be rough and it’s a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it.

I can buy 5 pairs of shoes in less than 10 mins, but when it comes to work boots, I spend at least a solid hour and a half trying models out and don’t look at the price.

These are my most important work tool, I’m on my feet at least 40h/week, and since I’m a mechanic, they have to answer to certain norms regular operators don’t have to.

I hate the ones I currently have, I’m sure they aren’t helping my back pain. I had ‘em last way too long for something I don’t like. Can’t wait to throw ‘em out.

Probably going to set me back a good 250-300$

Seeing that I don't know much about this man, I figured it would be appropriate to work it into my boys schooling today. Thanks for the inspiration @matty_c

i feel like i'm out of the workers club, since i cut down my bar shifts significantly.

then again my brain hurts daily because i'm trying to wrap my head around maths and physics now which is pretty overwhelming. it's sick when you get a eureka moment for something you've been struggling to get right. studying is dope, but it's pretty exhausting, too. i wrote about 20 pages down into my notebook today, all maths and physics calculation. most of the stuff i have no clue about yet and we are expected to figure some stuff out on our own or at least try and fail and then do it right. i've been having migraines and shit from excessive studying which seems pretty ineffective when that leads to me missing courses. my compulsive and manic behavior coupled with excessive procrastination due to anxiety and feelings of inadequacy left me as drained many days as i felt after overworking at the bar(s). i have to figure out a different and more productive mode of studying, just need to figure out how to manage my time better.

my next shift is tomorrow, and it's at the nicer, more chill place. love my coworker, she's so cool. i reckon it's gonna be a fun shift.

On the one hand I'm grateful for a reliable and non-stressful job. On the other hand it's extremely boring, I don't make much, there's close to no personal fulfillment in any way, and my co-workers are very annoying to me (they're fine, we're just very different). I really want to get recruited to another position because fuck looking for a new job.

Back in Mass the state guys were always loaded..foolish bastards, but they weren't gonna hurt anyone. The type of plowing I did you would want to be on your A game. About 50 percent of the woods roads I plowed were mountain roads. Nobody but you and the moose, no cell signal, nothing. If you fuck up your probably going off a cliff..Gnarly as fuck because you have to guess where the edge of the road is. haha crazy shit

no sweat, dude. none at at all. just figured I'd ask!

I feel you on the mountain roads. I was living at this spot off a forest service road, 4200 ft, and it would get gnarly once the snow came. Dudes went off those cliffs driving wasted every year, even when it wasn't winter. One night its snowing like a mofo and we're all sitting in in the Quonset hut when our neighbor, this Russian/Canadian dude Boris, comes in. He says his truck is hanging off the edge of the road. I'd just quit drinking and am the only sober person in there- everyone's drinking or eating some funny medicine. So me and this dude Ricky Ball, who was an engineer on a fishing vessel out in the Bering Sea most of the time, take a quad out there to see what's up and this kids brand new Tacoma is fucking dangling. We got this tripping boat mechanic trying to winch this shit up to a tree and and I had to convince these fools its a bad idea. if we tried to winch it up and slipped on the ice, which was inevitable, we were all down into the river bed. I don't know how that dude survived that shit to be honest.

I got some swat boots the other day, real cheap. If you aren't actually toeing anything in, and just need the caps, they are super comfy.
On the downside, there is a real chance you will be mistaken for an undercover.

...or was it? jk

My first time on a forklift was 6am unloading an 18-wheeler with a whole crew of day labourers standing watching me. Like a bad dream where you give a speech in front of the school in your underwear.

Nice one.

When I worked in a grocery store, I once dropped a pallet full of 12-packs of Coke cans from the top shelf of the warehouse, a solid 15-ish foot drop. The pallet was all busted up, crooked and badly taped, I should have never picked it up.

The mess it made... Jesus Christ.

Coke everywhere in the backstore in the middle of an afternoon rush. My manager was so fucking pissed at me.

Never got forklift certified but I’d probably do something equally disastrous if I ever had to use one.

Put in bathroom stalls on a coast guard ship today.  They’re plumb and level now because the ship was tied up solid.  No idea what’ll happen to them once it’s bouncing around on the high seas.

I love operating the forklift. It seemed really frightening at first but it's pretty intuitive and feels natural for me. Only thing i don't like unloading is pipe. Fucking giant bundles of flexible slippery sc40 in 20 ft sections, nightmare shit. I've done it in the rain and that is a new kind of hell. Sorry to hear that you had an accident on one @Paul Cicero . That shit always sucks and adds stress

Also the antiwork shit is embarrassing. Putting NEETs as the forward facing spokesperson for a movement of working people is either a massive fuckup (which would bode really poorly for our hopes of adding people to our movement) or some cointelpro type agit prop shit

Is that the thing that blew up on Reddit when the “leader” gave a shitty interview on Fox News and it went viral?

On a side note anybody know where @matty_c has been? He hasn’t been on in a while. I miss reading his posts in the narrator’s voice from the Outback Steakhouse commercials.

It’s pretty blatant that fox knees saw the low hanging fruit and just snatched the shit. A fucking freelance dog walker? I love dogs, damn near more than anything, but that is literally catering directly to the desire of the ruling class by providing a service that is inherently unnecessary and contributes to the growing fissure between them and us.

They are a freelance bootlicker and a freelance butler, they made a choice in providing a luxury service.

All of that being said, solidarity to all of the folks and comrades out there that work full time and still have to have a side hustle like walking dogs in order to just make ends meet.

I already talked about it a bit in the Stoked thread, but thanks to the union at work I got 39 weeks of back pay yesterday for the raise we were supposed to get on May 1st. Not gonna lie, it was a damn good raise, I wasn’t expecting to get that much in back pay.

Getting out of retail, for a blue collar-ass industrial factory job was the best move I’ve ever done. Hell they even paid me to go to trade school to become one of their only electro mechanics. Don’t really have a reason to work anywhere else.
