Title: How to heal hands
Post by: Easy Slider on October 26, 2021, 01:45:41 PM
I always fall on my hands and the palms of my hands are constantly a bit swollen and hurt. Even if I don‘t fall or wear protectors for a while, one slam is enough to make them hurt again. I think there are some underlying contusions that never fully heal.

How to deal with this, what are some strategies or recipes, remedies etc.?

You could try giving your hands a break and use your face for a while.

Sorry easy slider this stuff just writes itself…

It’s like a swellbow in your hand. You have to avoid contact. Try tricks you can land w/0 falling for a few months. You hands should heal.

It's like a hipper. Gravity is magnetized to it and the ground will naturally attract it. Good luck. I had to wear Tony Hawk's miraculous hip pads for months to recover. You might have to do everything you can for months to get your hands fully healed.

I get what you are saying. Easier said than done tho. I often slam the worst on the easy stuff or even just rolling, hitting a pebble or slipping out. Perhaps I should only do super gnarly stuff.  ;D

Have you been examined by a doctor?

I usually wear one on the hand that hurts most but I hate to wear them on both hands, looks like a kook and you can‘t really use your hands anymore for taking a drink or wiping the nose or similar stuff you do while skating.

Have you been examined by a doctor?

Kinda. I showed it to a pharmacist who said it would go away and reluctantly gave me some ointment. I also showed it to a doctor who said the same. But they did not examine it properly.

It sucks but it might just be a forever thing. you may not be able to stop it happening but rather just have to find what manages the pain best after. Heat and or ice etc.
I have a similar thing with the side of my front knee. 90% of falls it's already hit the ground before I can do anything about it and will swell up instantly. I can even just bump it on something and it might swell up. Bags of frozen peas/corn are pretty useful

Wear gloves with a little palm padding. I use MechanixWear M-Pacts that I already had for mountain biking.

Good idea, it‘s glove weather anyway now.

Hands facing your chest, forearm on the ground(not all your weight on it though), rolling. Your hands are not supposed to be used in slams most of the times, at most you touch the ground a bit to regain balance, but not in slams.
