He was def. one of my favorites in the past few years :'( Rip in peace.

Wtf

This is awful if true. He seemed like a smart, young pro, couldn’t even be 30, right?
-
Fuck! R.I.P
-
I'm fucking gutted. I got to kick it with him a couple times and he was a solid dude. He was really close with one of my best friends. Fucking bummed beyond belief
-
Holy shit, this fucking sucks.
RIP to one of the more creative skaters out there, dude ripped and was a super down to earth guy.
-
damn...his newer graphics looked so sick too. Young dude. Rip In Paradise
-
What the fuck...i just watched that bronson video last night. One of my good homies best friends as well, Zane stayed at my house for a night a few years back. He was a super good dude and an absolute insane person on a skateboard. RIP to one of the recent greats
-
Whaaaat. I was just starting to discover his skating. Hell of a bummer.
Peace and condolences to his family and loved ones.
-
Damn rip to a real one…
-
Fuck this!
R.I.P.
-
His part earlier this year where he skated to Teeth Like God's Shoeshine got me so stoked. One of those parts where I immediately wanted to go skate when it was over. Just rewatched it and the feeling remains.
RIP
-
Fuck... RIP. Can't believe I'm reading this.
-
I'm heartbroken, one of the most original skaters of our time. Didn't know him personally but hate it and feel for his friends and loved ones. Gone WAY too soon. This part will always be a favorite of mine and I'm sure many others:
https://youtu.be/2t3SgFmg4eQ
A true original
-
Fuck. Got a text from a friend about this earlier and didn't want it to be true. Will go down as one of the most creative and gnarliest dudes of all time. RIP

his pro model graphic shouted p spliff
now he’s gone too
sf will really work you if you aren’t careful

Far too young. Rest in peace

-
RIP
this man had it all, creativity, extreme gnar, good posture on the board.
condolences to fam, friends and anyone on here connected to him.
-
What in the actual fuck dude! Just watched that whole thing Bronson did on him a few days ago. He seemed like such a sick down to earth person and obviously insane on a board. RIP to a real one, this sucks. So young and full of life.
-
Damn, awful. Dude seemed really gnarly and just a generally good and positive force in his scene. Harsh. Very sorry for his friends and family.
-
Unreal. Rest in peace.
-
Can't believe I am reading this today. Truly terrible news, far too young for this to happen. His Awaysted part is incredible and a constant rewatch for me. RIP Zane and condolences to everyone who knew him personally.

This is hugely fucked. I have been a fan since his warco part. Followed his career since. Was stoked in everything he did and I made a zine the first and only issue I reached out to him for an interview for it and he was down and seemed very well spoken and intelligent and just cool as hell . This one def hurts.
-
RIP
-
RIP to an awesome skater and human in general. Gone too soon.
-
Hope he’s skating weird spots in the gnarliest ways wherever he’s at now. Fuck man, another board for the wall.

R.I.P Zane. A creative force on and off the skateboard. This one hits hard.

I only started paying attention with the front 360 into the sun dial. Wish we got to see more and that he got to live until he was old RIP

Major Bummer, I lost my shit when he FS 360'd into that statue, what a wild trick. Major, major bummer.

Fucked up over this one. Zane was one of my favourites out, and this is way too soon. I'll miss his hammers, but I'll miss the man much more.

Absolutely fucking devastating news.
He was truly a gift to skating
Long live ZT.
-
first saw this dude when that insane fs 360 into that steep yellow wall, sad news, rip
-
Fuck I really didn't wanna read this. He has been my favorite skater of the current generation since his Earth Goblin part dropped. Rest in peace Zane, hope you're bombing hills with Pablo.
-
This is horrible. Anyone know happened to him?
His front 360 into the yellow sculpture is permanently seared into my memory. I’ve been skating for a long time and my heart doesn’t skip a beat at tricks very often anymore, but that was one of them.
Rest in peace, Zane. You left an impact on me and I’m sure countless others.
-
I just watched the Bronson vid a few days ago too. Probably just a weird coincidence but when I watched it I immediately noticed his shirt said “death is coming” and thought it was an interesting tee.
Ah man, such a bummer. I just had watched that Bronson day in the life video with him. He seemed very genuine and thoughtful and was such a ripper. We're losing too many good ones. RIP Zane

R.I.P. ZANE.
Skateboarding will miss him.

Zane
Was
The
Definition
Of
A
Skate
Rat.
Plain & simple: the man was one of us. One of OUR people. In the absolute realest of ways.
Only met him a few times, but I can say without hesitation… boy, was it a pleasure to watch him ride.
That 360 into the Sundial up at “the Dish” is an entire mountain of Gnar. Mind melting scale type of shit.
If you’ve ever seen it in person, you know it’s just NOT actually a skateable obstacle.
Until THIS Zane dude came along, that is.
Deepest, heartfelt condolences to his people.
-
Been a fan since New Pollution days, the kid was good back then, and just got better and better since. He truly would have been one of the greats, his parts were always so fucking good. Rest easy, big dawg
-
Dude just went pro.. This sucks. RIP
-
Unbelievable, saw a few people share some stuff of him on Instagram stories today and just thought it was sick he was getting more exposure, didn't think anything of it. Tragic whatever the circumstances were, this dude had a bright future.
-
Fuck, that's terrible news. Coincidentally I majorly chipped the front of my ZT Heroin board this weekend and thought about buying a replacement, I wonder if there will be a benefit sale or anything to help his family. If so I'll definitely buy another.
-
Gone too soon, the way he skated was simply amazing. He seemed an incredible person, collaborative, kind and sincere.
RIP to a true one
-
RIP
-
In his short time Zane left such a heavy impact of tricks that stuck with us all, I mean we'll all remember the front 360 forever. He just had one of those minds and the skill to pull off the impossible.
The last few years have been incredibly fucked for losing skaters and it has to be so hard for anyone who was really around a lot of these guys to lose so many friends.
-
Dude fucking shredded, RIP
-
wtf this dude seemed so young and gnarly r.i.p my full condolences go out to his family and friends

R.I.P.

Such a bummer

rest in peace.

Been a fan since camp Woodward days, So bummed, Rest Easy Zane🙏🏼
Same man, so horrible, thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. RIP, gone too soon, way too young
-
Terrible. As someone reconnecting with the wider skate community over the last few years I was really drawn to his skating, it instantly stood out.
-
Way too many RIP posts lately.
-
I thought this was the guy that rolls with the GX1000 crew but that is another guy.
Pretty bad year with so many deaths this year. RIP.
-
woah what the actual fuck.
-
Hope he’s skating weird spots in the gnarliest ways wherever he’s at now. Fuck man, another board for the wall.
A-fuckin-men.
-
I thought this was the guy that rolls with the GX1000 crew but that is another guy.

Zane was pretty close with a bunch of the gx guys. He lived in San Fran and was homies with Pablo
-
I want to get one of his decks and actually ride it because I feel it would do it more Justice than hanging it up. Does anyone know if he has a model out that is smaller than 8.75 because that's really pushing it for me I can do 8.5. Thanks. Just trying to support. RIP.
-
This just doesn't feel real--can't wrap my head around it. Dude was so fucking gnarly, and every bit of footage I came across of his over the past few years was nothing short of a treat. Seemed like a great guy off the board as well. RIP.

He left sf because of all the shit that went down with gx.
-
Like some my first introduction to Zane was the front 3 into the dial, that trick among others will forever be ingrained within our culture, he has cemented his place in skating.
Through watching the Bronson and New Yorker pieces it was obvious he was intelligent, humble, and kind. Way too many loses over the past 5 or so years in skating.
Zane Timpson = Absolute ripper
All the love to his family and friends.

Way too soon.

RIP.
The sound of board tapping ground.

Sorry to those who knew him, sorry to skateboarding. Terrible news.

This is a terrible thing to hear, skateboarding lost a great person today. Condolences to his friends and family.
Just rewatched his most recent part and it started with a tribute to p spliff and ended with a tribute to henry gartland :'(
-
This is horrible. A sad day in skateboarding. The SF scene has seen a lot of deaths recently even though I know a lot the guys came from other cities, but skated a lot in SF. Zane T. Max Van Arnem, Abbas Glass and Dave Abair.
Is the scene very unhealthy there or is it just a coincidence that all of the above skaters have had great connection to SF? I know every death are unique circumstances, but are their something in the skate scene of that city that isn't right?
I am sorry if I ask this question to quickly after this horrible news. I ask in a respectful manner, but still wondering.
I wish their friends and family best.

What a tremendous loss. Condolences to his loved ones and anyone on here that knew him.

Tragic. Such a gnarly skater and seemed like a rad dude.
Anyone know what happened? I think it's important to let people know, esp if it helps anyone deal with their own current state of affairs to avoid another instance
-
I heard what happened. It was a random health event. Like Michael Brooks
-
I heard what happened. It was a random health event. Like Michael Brooks
Who told you that if I may ask?

My best friend who grew up with him. They were super close and were on camp Woodward together

Damn, fucked up if that's what happened. But this somehow seems easier to accept than if he died in a similair incident as Pspliff.
-
It is oddly more comforting to know someone died because their time was just up too soon rather than that they fell victim to a tragic accident or took their own life.
-
i don't usually get too worked up about the passing of people i didn't know, but this one really got to me
sometimes there's a person who seems like they're going to make a big impact over many years, and zane was one of them, to me.
some people just seem like they're going to help define an era, and it's exciting when that person with all that potential aligns with your own ideas about how things should progress in skating. it feels like there's something to look forward to, just for that person being around and having their impact.
Dylan was like that to me. in music, that was how i felt about Power Trip as well. Just people who are poised to put their mark on the culture for the next 10+ years, and i feel lucky to be around to watch it and participate, in my own small way.
and then when they're gone, it's like the rug got pulled out and the culture takes a slightly different path. the impact is still there but you don't get to see what acts 2 and 3 would have brought.
this is nothing compared to how their families and friends must feel, but it's my way of understanding why it can be really upsetting for someone to die, even if you didn't know them.
RIP zane, i think we should all keep him in mind while we rip some boneless, grab, and no-comply tricks

Man, what a bummer. Seemed like a real genuine guy

Saw this as soon as I woke up damn... RIP
-
Damn, I met Zane at the Element Skate camp when I was a counselor. I think the year was 2008. He had been assigned to my cabin. I was running the zine program at the time and he was instantly stoked on it. Asking questions about printing photos, markers, paper, etc. He inspired a lot of people to get involved with it that week.
He also pushed for the cabin to repeatedly sleep outdoors in the bowl, on the vert ramp, and street course.
I'd run into him over the years here in San Francisco and he was always the kindest most stoked individual. The level of skateboarding he was at was insane, just pure next level barging.
He will be missed.
-
RIP zane, i think we should all keep him in mind while we rip some boneless, grab, and no-comply tricks
Well said. When I first started skating all I could do was no comply 180s and a couple of locals gave me a lot of shit for it. When Earth Goblin came out, it was the first full-length video I ever watched, so Zane's part was the first actual pro part I'd ever seen. Seeing him do a fs no comply on a legit street obstacle really inspired me to not give a shit about what those guys thought of me.
-
Tragic loss. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and the skateboarding community.

Oddly same, just seemed like his future in skating was so bright and he had such a unique approach. Seeing so many people say beautiful things about how kind he was and everything. Made the mistake of going through Instagram comments on his posts last night and saw his girlfriend had went and commented on like every one of them sharing her memories of that day hit me really weird. I’m usually not so effected by ‘celebrity’ deaths so to speak but this one landed. Puts things in perspective.
-
RIP Zane Timpson . Been watching him skate since his camp woodward days. Very sad to hear and a huge loss.
-
RIP to a real one. This trick will forever be burned into my mind
https://youtu.be/53FVtRJlmvc
quoting to bump. one of the sickest tricks done in a while. creative, aggressive, gnarly, looks good. the piece on bombing hills was cool too. seems like he was a pretty pure skater, doing it for the love and also pushing himself hard. very inspiring.
descanse en paz

Just want to take a moment to remind everybody that speculating on the cause of death for those recently deceased -- and especially insinuating that said cause of death is due to irresponsibility on the dead person's behalf -- is disrespectful to the deceased's family and friends and, most often and likely, incorrect.
Let's just remember that here and for every skater that unfortunately passes away in the future. If you don't have anything nice and productive to say, don't say anything at all. And there's a button called "remove" that will delete any posts you may regret.
-
Damn, damn, damn.
His skating and vibe was helping me get over @choadped's absence.
-
Yeah, don't assume, Zane didn't do drugs (besides weed) so his death had nothing to do with that. It had nothing to do with Covid or Vaccines either before anyone jumps all over that like somebody tried to in my instagram post.
I thought it was completely irresponsible and disrespectful to his family and his legacy of Figureitout to mention drugs in a post about his passing. I DM'd and asked him to edit it but had no response and it's still up and now people are skimming the comments and making their own assumptions. Out of respect for his family and friends please just use this as a tribute to honor Zane.
I saw some of that shit about the vaccine also. Disgusting that people would use someone's untimely death to push their bullshit disinformation.
RIP Zane.
-
That's why I left that disclaimer. People, more than we realize die everyday. A friend of mine said his "gx friend said it was an od" last night. I am not supporting this as I told him hes not the type who seemed he would dabble as I'm an opiate addict in recovery. My friend said you don't know what your friends do after they go home after the session. I still hold onto hope. Just bullshit I heard these are completely not my intuitions just hoping it was peaceful. I don't even care give it time but my friend last night his credibility isn't 100%. What matters is another extremely great skateboarder just peaking passed. GG Allin always said he wanted to be taken out at his peak so his soul would be at its strongest but stupidly died of an H OD like most 90s musicians.... only reason I say that is Zane was about to peak and was taken from us.
Dude, fuck off. This isn’t about you.
-
Let me be clear.
As you can see, there have been way too many losses in the skateboarding community recently.
Many of these skaters were close friends with people on this message board. Some of us are raw and worn down with loss.
If you can't share in the grief and memorialize those lost to us without badmouthing them, then go elsewhere to discuss your baseless theories there.
Any defamation or trolling on these tribute topics is an egregious offense in my eyes and ban worthy.
RIP Zane Timpson. I wish I got to know you because everyone you ever crossed paths with has nothing but great memories of you. Your skating was otherworldly.
-
What's with the agenda in all these posts to act like it's never disclosed and the aggressive "duh" attitude in response to a very natural question "what happened" . How would one know what bad taste is to speculate when it's not disclosed, if you act like it never is disclosed. People naturally want to know what happened, and when it's not volunteered, don't ask, that's something I do agree with from experience, but if you had a friend go down in a train crash and you say he died in a trane crash, that's not badmouthing. it's just what happened. so maybe check yourself on the assumtions, and if you were or are actually close to that person, you wouldn't be focusing on that anyway and let's get real if someone up and said covid, you'd be hard pressed not to correct them, and you forget that's the focal where all these 'off the wall "baseless" assumptions are filtered. It doesn't matter don't talk about it is the ultimate it matters don't talk about it. that's the slappers logic. the family just ain't gonna say that shit, but you're pretty presumptuous to think they care about your little post
rip ZANE

Zane was an artist by every definition. Everything he did was so gnarly & gorgeous — skating, poetry, film, photography, illustration. You could see in everything he touched how his actions and creativity were done in conversation with both the history of those crafts and the present moment, and more importantly it all had an ineffable quality that was undeniably himself. There’s not a lot of people who have such transferable and vast energy, but he did. The world has lost a true light with his passing. May his loved ones find peace. May he continue to inspire. Zane Timpson forever. Zane Cary forever.

Damn, damn, damn.

theres a difference between soft and showing respect.

Rest in power
Just watched the vice video about Ben raemers (had a hard time bc of my own demons) and now I read about Zane after discovering his stuff just a couple weeks ago. He became really one of my favorite skaters.

I don't understand the issue of wanting to know the reason for an individuals unfortunate passing. On some level that is part of the healing and coping process. I also understand that this discussion can come off as distasteful, taboo and unsympathetic but in reality it is human nature to seek the unknown especially when tragedy is involved. The term "sudden medical event" can mean literally anything and leads the mind down various paths. The fact is the past 2 years we have all faced a lot of loss especially within the skate world. Suicides and OD's have both broken records over the past 20 months and on some level it needs to be discussed. Perhaps this isn't the place to do so which is understandable but there should not be a stigma around it and instead of shaming and condemning people who care is the wrong move.

Well spoken, respect. The frontside 360 he did into that unbelievably steep bank doesn’t even seem real, impeccable style and execution. Rip to a true great!

This is the last thing i want to say about this. I put out the info i know as vaguely as possible because i didn't want to have a bunch of wild speculation on how Zane passed. I did not feel comfortable putting out every single thing that one of my closest friends told me and i also owe him a lot more than i owe a bunch of anonymous people on the internet. it's a fucking tragedy that he isn't here any more, and it wasn't drugs, or drunk driving or any shit like that. He died suddenly and it's not fucking fair.
-
https://www.newyorker.com/culture/video-dept/the-rush-and-risk-of-skateboarding-san-franciscos-hills
Now I'm reading the article and its kind of a huge syncronicity altoghether. I really don't know what is actually happening in my life right now, not alone others.
I just know some time ago this year I started discovering Zane skating through internet videos and I was amazed at how tech gnar he went on that fucking pool and just about everyting he did on a skateboard. I thought to myself, damm, another amazing talent on a skateboard that gets media noticed later in his career and peaks and then fades away in years time. I thought though, he was the kind of excellent mixed with carelessness and daring style. Just one of the greatests, I didnt know it would end this soon. I cried earlier this year with some alcohol thinking of the greatests passing, dylan, ben, lewis, shane, everybody. I think it really doesn't matter how or the reason someone passes away. The point is, it's a reminder to all of us left that life is temporary and some things like music, skateboarding or the bright light that human consciousness is never will fade away, as they are passed and carried on like the love and lust of our ancestors.
Just maybe, instead of getting to the last part of the day and musing away, fading, working our ass off or listening to the wind, we should just get our boards and go out and spend some minutes skating, for the sake of it, before death takes us to the ultimate pleasure of sending it without the ultimate fear of injury or pleasure, just the unending landing of our lives.

rip ripper

RIP to my fellow four eyed ripper. :'(

Gonna really miss seeing his slams where his glasses would go flying.
-
Rest in peace Zane, thank you for the inspiration.

When your role model dies of an overdose, it shows that drugs are at the very least dangerous and frequently deadly, and therefore not a highjinx.
If your role model commits suicide, it shows that depression and mental health problems are ubiquitous, that people, no matter how gnarly, can be mentally unstable, and that both looking out for your friends and being open about it yourself is a way to avoid tragedy.
When your role model dies a natural death, it shows that no one is exempt from such blows of fate. And therefore one should celebrate life, one's friends, the here and now.
This fuss about privacy etc in such a discussion is completely wrong. Life is hard and mean and can be short. So let's also talk about death and deglamourise it. Especially when it comes to idols.

The “fuss” about privacy is completely right. While I agree your points -is is both disrespectful and entitled to think that everyone is somehow owed or have a right to know how he died. If those that loved him wanted the information public , they would have made it public. End of subject.

Asking what happened is natural, jumping to conclusions when you don't get an answer and making assumptions is not. If it was any of the reasons you listed (which I hope it wasn't) then I hope it comes out because awareness IS important, however the people throwing those out as suggestions without knowing anything about it are not helping, only spreading misinformation.

I think it is very natural to want to know the cause of death. Let's be honest it is the first thing that pops in our heads. The first question we would ask in person if a friend died. My supervisor had to tell me another one of our clients died last week. 'What happened?' A natural and understandable response IMO.
At the same time, have some respect for friends and family and be patient with their grief and the process. We don't all need to know immediately if we didn't know him personally.

Baselessly theorizing on a public forum about someone's passing sucks, but so does shaming and finger wagging when someone respectfully seeks an answer to a perfectly natural question. Surely there's room in between for people who cared about Zane to voice questions without people sanctimoniously jumping down their throat. Reading between the lines of Dale Sr.'s post helped me process this, and I'm grateful for that. RIP.

that is so fucking sad. like, how does that even happen? from a slam or from coughing too hard or what? and, just randomly out of nowhere on a trip with his girl that had been long awaited at that. fucking awful. life is bizarre and death is tragic. much love and condolences to his family/friends.

Rest in peace to a real one. The few times I saw him around the city he looked like a true natural on the board.
Gone too soon. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

so incredibly sad. these kind of heart problems really can just cause sudden death, some people close to me have had similar issues. they can be managed if you catch the predisposition early, but they often go undetected. docs say that if this runs in your family you should get CT scans of the chest starting at a young age to keep an eye on it... but most US insurance won't cover that until youre like 40 years old or so. healthcare in our country fucking sucks. not saying this has anything to do with zane in particular, but more as a PSA to anyone who needs to go check in with a heart doctor.

There have recently been two pro cyclists and one pro soccer player who had to leave their sport in their 20s after discovering aortic dissections. Doctors are getting better at detecting this sort of thing, but they're not likely to look for this in a 20-something having heartburn, as these sorts of things typically befall men in the 50s and 60s.

I think I said this with Dave, but everytime I log on I dread seeing another name at the top of the page. Another person I've been stoked on for a while, something not too common as I get older and skateboarding gets more homogenized. It's hard to stand out these days and Zane always stood out, a truly fucking Original Coors. My condolences to his family and friends, I'm out.

Zane was an amazing skater and also an amazing artist. I purchased his fffurther magazine and it blew me away how well put together and complex it was. His sufferlove magazine that goes alongside his part is even more intimate and beautiful, I highly recommend it to anyone, I would think the proceeds will go to his family. RIP.

He has a small part in this video that my friend made last year. It's at about the 18 minute mark. Along with Zane, its features a couple other homies that past away last year.
Hug all of your friends tight.

If you feel you have a health issue and go to the hospital, do not leave until you are comfortable. Healthcare in America is fucked, but your life is worth it.
Try to get on that Obamacare, get a checkup sometimes. If you think something's up, you're probably right.
Won't and shouldn't speak too much on Zane's particular situation, but this is all I've been able to think about.
Love you Zane

Thanks for posting this. I wasn’t able to go to the premiere in Tulsa and I don’t have a DVD player to watch the dvd. So I’m pretty stoked to watch.
Thank you.
