suciu rules. its kind of unfortunate that he will never be able to top Verso, but thats just what it is.

Courthouse>Blubba line is fun and oddly rare considering they're like the two most iconic NY spots and right across the street from each other.

i feel like he is still going to drop one more little thing. there were multiple photos in the mag that weren’t in this, such as sw flip bs lip the black rail on bricks that he sw back tail shoves in this and, a back rail hippie jump at afro banks. some other stuff i can’t remember at the moment.

blubba session made me yell at my television, i don’t think the last trick was even necessarily the best. definitely his best part of the year.

Courthouse to Blubba was so spicy. Also loved that he ripped a switch front 180 off the second drop, so few people have done anything off the second drop aside from him.

That being said, I’m also liking his skating less and less these days. That second line was brutally calculated and rigid feeling. Like, just ease up and cruise around man, not everything is a fuckin literary math equation. You don’t have to ollie on to each little step because you can, just push and look fluid instead.

It's funny you say that because that actually stood out to me as really dope lol like obviously he could've just ollied straight onto that ledge from flat but he chose to ollie onto the step to quick ollie up the ledge instead and i thought that was cool as shit haha i get why it might seem a little too prescribed for some folks but that shit's tight as hell to me. i think there's enough room in skateboarding for both people like mark who skate very intentionally and people who have a more fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants spontaneous vibe. different strokes i guess!

This is how I’ve felt about his skating the past few years. I like the quick feet lines, but I swear he used to do it more tastefully. His Cross continental/sabotage era parts are really good.

I haven’t gotten hyped on this fool probably since Sabo days and I disliked everything about the audiovisual perpetration that was Verso, but this part had a lot of extremely dank skating, hardly any boring clips and more than a few mind-blowing ones. Miss me with the b&w mirror lines and Twister shit, this was dope.

So many neat little surprises in this part! And some bigger ones, too. Love the fast and casual Bs 180 to Fakie Manual after the Fs Boardslide down that sketchy handrail. Courthouse destruction was unexpectedly heavy. And the ender is the trick Blubba has been waiting for without anyone knowing. Except Mark, apparently.

I feel the opposite, it looks free flowing and fun. It’s often not difficult stuff but looks like it would be enjoyable to do. Tom Knox does the same thing sometimes and it feels more relatable to me than 3 tricks in a row on 3 of the same ledges.

Damn, reading through this thread, it’s like his obvious plan of putting out two throwaway parts followed by one really good one at the end of the year worked on everyone.  Forget the fact that Dilo’s had like 4 gnarly no-filler parts this year, and another on the way.  Or the fact that Louie’s FA part was 10x more tasteful and stylish than this one.

to this point, and no intended degradation of Tom Knox (who is a personal hero)... Tom Knox openly plans out/calculates his lines with painstaking detail.  it's something I actually enjoy about both Suciu and Knox.  somewhat related:  didnt Suciu have an interview where he said Busenitz sat him down once to tell him to quit stressing out about plans/ABDs and to 'just skate'?  I just dont think he can... which isnt a bad thing.  skaters plan stuff.  from pants, to set ups, to lines... it's hard to be completely spontaneous in everything--especially when oftentimes the filmer at least needs a general idea of where the skater is gonna go/do so as not to miss something.

I can’t believe it. I’m finally warming up to Suciu’s skating and other people are accusing him of being too calculated

go figure

Damn, reading through this thread, it’s like his obvious plan of putting out two throwaway parts followed by one really good one at the end of the year worked on everyone.  Forget the fact that Dilo’s had like 4 gnarly no-filler parts this year, and another on the way.  Or the fact that Louie’s FA part was 10x more tasteful and stylish than this one.
[close]

Speaking of, can anyone link to all the Dilo parts from this year? I can only think of two - the 561 part and stage fright

he had parts in Flora Ep. 2 and Almost's Rosario too. def deserves consideration and I would be stoked af if he won it but I think it's pretty unlikely

Certainly finished strong here. Courthouse Nollie FS flip was heavy.
Only thing missing from his SOTY campaign is a Thrasher cover. 3 parts and no cover would be a little questionable for a SOTY.
[close]

I know it's been decades since then but Chris Senn won SOTY without ever getting a Thrasher cover including the issue that announces he got it.
[close]

Is this actually a thing? Never really considered the cover aspect, have all the other SOTY winners gotten a Thrasher cover during the year they won? (Not including the actual issue announcing the winner)

It's not a must, as there are no rules but if a magazine is showcasing the best/ most prolific/ most talked about skater that year, they've generally done something coverworthy. Certainly part of the vague criteria.

besides milton and mason, nobody has had a cover the year of winning since ave. and even before that, wes and ishod didn’t have one the years they won either. i’m sure there’s lots of other years that were just the same.

Atiba posted a Insta story a few days ago of a photo of Suciu with the caption 'great session' with a mind blown emoji and piano music playing the background. Suciu had a photo of him at Atiba at a six stair hand rail in LA. Obviously just a guess, but I wonder if Suciu was going for a cover shot. Thrasher will probably show one more cover before SOTY is announced, so I think there is a chance Suciu still does get a cover that comes out with his new mega part.

I know it's been decades since then but Chris Senn won SOTY without ever getting a Thrasher cover including the issue that announces he got it.

That was a real treat. I know people can't help but be extra judgmental towards those that are at the top of the game, but I really don't get the talk about him having bad style.

Sure, he's not going to be my first choice when I want to watch ~style~ skating, but he's constantly doing difficult and awkward tricks in a nearly impeccable way. He could use some help in the clothing department, but that's apart from his actual body movements.

Yeah, he should have just done 50-50s on it. Front 50, back 50, nollie front 50, nollie back 50, switch front 50, switch back 50, fakie front 50, and a fakie back 50. That would have made so much more sense.

Yeah I saw this thing in person for the first time a few weeks ago. The broad ass edge scared me off from hopping on and is the only fear factor relative to someone who would already easily skate a ledge/hubba that size. Its below average height, smooth marble and and the kink is pretty mellow. Fakie back 5050 on any hubba is sick as fuck imo

Also just noticed that during the courthouse to blubba line he had to time it when traffic had a red light so he could cross the street and do that switch fs heel.

Did any catch the video with Mark and Adidas for Paradigm Publishers or something closet to that? I saw it appear in at least one instagram story from somebody i know, but I can't find much about it. Theres some stupid berrics post and a few odd press releases. I looked up Paradigm and found their insta and a book they made, so like, does he contribute writing or photo or something?

Idk I just saw a insta story of him doing a few ollies over orange barriers and was thinking there was another part sort of secretly floating around there. i think the article i skimmed mentioned a video or something to promote an adidas capsule.
