I mean it’s not like Mason didn’t do the exact same thing last year. And Yuto’s Thrasher gear dripped December part is just as blatant.
I like the shit where Phelps said he gave Reynolds SOTY after seeing one kickflip (the best one ever done), but also watching these SOTY thirsty dudes go crazy stacking all year is pretty entertaining too. At the end of the day putting out this much good footage like Suciu or Mason in a year is impressive and SOTY worthy.

I remember a reynolds interview when he said that phelps gave him the award because he saw him do a single kickflip over a set in france. Oh how far (backwards?) we've come.
At least with Mason last year, it was spaced out enough to feel like a journey. Mark's campaign feels like the kool aid man busting into the wall of your room right before you are about to go to bed.

Yeah, that was completely ridiculously amazing. Like watching videos back in the 90s and you didn’t even know the trick was possible and had never seen it before like that. It’s like that, but in 2021. Which is really an incredible thing.
I don’t really really care about SOTY, plenty of my fav skaters aren’t SOTY (and plenty of my least fav are) - but at this point, Thrasher would be kooking itself by not attaching it’s brand to Mark. He’s unequivocally the best in 2021, and it’s not even close.

he's in the same getup for 2 of the 3 tricks on the same ledge in Blue Dog (@ 2:06). Same lighting, too.
So in that single session, he did blunt to back 50-50, back tail to back tail, and back tail bigspin. I guess he figured he'd save the best for last?

I think you’re a little confused. The spots where he’s going “slow” are just incredibly awkward spots and he’s doing incredibly awkward tricks. The spot itself requires fast feet and not full speed attack.

Mark just looks incredibly awkward in general when he skates lately. Don’t get me wrong I love a lot of things mark does I loved a lot of clips he put out this year but all 4 of these video parts just feel stale

Weirdly this reminded me of the Dylan. Gravis part in some way. Like a culmination of a person's abilities that finally becomes realized.
This was easily the best part he's ever put out. There's like 20 different tricks that made me audibly yell "holy shit"

mark is the type of skater that could win an unlimited amount of TWS awards, but a Thrasher SOTY still seems like an odd fit. But so does Yuto ... Chima seems like the best fit, so far.

SOTY literally has to be him. This year has been unreal, every single part is filled with mind benders and NBDs and downright scary shit on every continent. But also, you have to consider the consistency over the past 10 years too-- combine that with this year's literally inhuman amount of output, it can't go to anyone else.
You can say that Yuto or Dilo are ripping or whatever but nobody has been doing it at this level for this long.

I think Thrasher wrote up a little 2 page spread in a magazine because they both did this trick around the same time and got sequences of them too.

Had to rewatch the part to see these "slow" clips. Part ended and I didn't see any. What specific clips in this part seemed slow to you? Keep in mind you have posted videos you made on here that feature people skating about a tenth of the speed Mark skates. ;)

I know, right? Lol. Homie's eyes are broken or something. The second clip he hated on for being slow was literally a downhill line where he's flying by the time he's at the second trick, and everyone who skates there goes slower on the first trick because you gain speed so quick. He does a switch flip back tail going super fast, and this dude is complaining about it being too slow. Guess he expected Mark to skitch a car on that first line when he rolled into the street instead of taking a couple solid pushes, and maybe get towed into that downhill line. ;D

Weirdly this reminded me of the Dylan. Gravis part in some way. Like a culmination of a person's abilities that finally becomes realized.

I think this part had some more texture than his last few for sure, I like the skrelly clip and the back tail hippy jump mixed in with all that wizardry. I think I wanna see him have fun more often!
The barrage of insane rail tricks was fucked up but I'd almost rather them be sprinkled throughout the part and slowly building, but that's really an editing critique rather than one of the actual skating. I'll die on this hill... Suciu more than deserves to be recognized for his accomplishments, but I still wonder if he will get SOTY. And that doubt has NOTHING to do with what he's actually doing on the skateboard but everything to do with what kind of impact it's having on people. Skateboarding is weird, man.
I'd vote for him just because he takes it so seriously, but I'm afraid that it's the reason why he won't win it.

Does tricks few people have imagined before. It is all free. We can watch them all 400 times. He put out 11minutes in 2019 and it didn't work. So he films multiple parts with different filmers. He sees Mason won with 3 parts in 2020. He makes 5 parts to be sure. He seeks recognition from the monopolistic media agent of the culture that treats skaters with a brain like outcasts. It reminded me of Mark Johnson‘s rail destruction in Seven Steps to Heaven, blew my mind. It took years until people would do those tricks on bigger rails. The same applies to Mariano‘s Switch rail tricks in Mouse.
Different times now of course, so I suppose it won’t be long until Horigome, Shirai et al take Suciu‘s NBDs to a 8-10 stair rail in some California Skateparks training facility, but he paved the way (yet again).

Suciu already had 3 years where he probably should have won (2013, 2014, 2019). I just realized that Justin Albert is basically a career filmer whose primary job is filming one dude. It's not even like he is appointed to film a team; Mark skates so damn much that it's a full time job keeping up with him.
Albert filmed clips in each of the 4 parts and filmed the entirety of Blue Dog and Flora. Ridiculous productivity.

A lot of those rails weren't very small at all. I know I wouldn't be hitting most of those for a basic trick let alone some of the back-benders in this part. The backsmith front 180 out was on a longer rail.. anyways, fuck ya'll for hating on someone for wanting an achievement. This trophy has somehow become to be most respected award a skater can get. Like Silas said in his interview, this award can actually lengthen your career and cement you as one of the best of all time. If I had a shot at getting it - fuck yeah I'd try to get that shit and you probably would too.

I was listening to Mark's 9 club recently and he mentions that only the adidas part was slated to release this year (interview from August or something) with the other projects slated for 2022. Sound's like justin albert and his sponsors saw the stars line up and released everything in december. I think he's getting too much heat for being thirsty.

While this batch of parts individually have been less Composed than verso , if you look at them together they all bring different things to be table , and make 1 sipercompsed mega part. He may have out verso’d himself.

Feels like he was almost universally liked until he moved to NYC and his Jenkem “hanging out with” video dropped, then a lot of people turned on him. To be fair he was a little corny in the Jenkem video but it doesn’t justify the level of hate at all. People are definitely using his occasional corniness as an excuse to project their insecurities.
