i've seen various comments all over slap that logan, cyrus, and max are starting a new company called 'Limosine' under FA. is this true? who has the info - i haven't seen any sources or cryptic instagrams hinting at this.

This was cool. Really dug the vibe and it has me excited for what comes next. I’m hoping they’ll be able to capture some of that early 917/John’s vid magic; I love that stuff. if i were to buy a new deck and had to choose between for example fa, polar, real and limosine i'd get the limosine because all are bbs boards and limosine has my favorite skaters out of all those brands. i couldn't care less about the graphic as long as it isn't downright bad, and all of the boards posted in this thread are ok. my fav one is the painted over 917 but fuck it i could skate any of these, especially the one that's the max palmer pro model

Graphics are cool. I think it has a unique aesthetic, but every brand grows into its identity as it progresses. It’s always easiest to judge a company at its start, and as mentioned, it’s only like a day old. I feel it has potential though; maybe we’ll see when the video releases.

Cyrus and Max killed it as always. Nelly is the fuckin truth. Hugo stole the show for me though, dude fucking rips.
I will say, my only critique is that for a team that was bummed on their lack of creative control at 917, I really expected a strong brand identity/aesthetic in the video. Was some super good skating and filming, but nothing about it screamed "Limosine".
All in all phenomenal video though.

Cyrus is great, that last trick was pretty rad, and I'm glad they didn't abuse that zoom in/out filming style too much. However, the overexposure thing is played out, that music was fucking atrocious, and nothing about that made me want to buy a board with a washed out mustang covered in barbed wire.

Edit- Watched the vid, solid stuff. Not a real exciting brand though, seems a bit more concerned with saying “fuck 917” than it does with making something unique. Which is disappointing because good “fuck you” energy has made classics like Video Days, Baker Bootleg, and Goldfish.
We won’t see this brand 2 years from now.

Cyrus and Max killed it as always. Nelly is the fuckin truth. Hugo stole the show for me though, dude fucking rips.
I will say, my only critique is that for a team that was bummed on their lack of creative control at 917, I really expected a strong brand identity/aesthetic in the video. Was some super good skating and filming, but nothing about it screamed "Limosine".
All in all phenomenal video though.
I think thay had more problems with the board graphics and overall organisation than with the video. Both of the 917 vids were done by Logan Lara I think so makes sense that it feels like 917 third video.

One of the last 917 drops with max and Cyrus signature slick boards - the cyber series maybe? - had shapes with that same14.129 wb and sub-32 length. I copped both dudes' decks and were some of the best I've ridden this past year.

Feels like 917 2.0 to me and not at all in a bad way. If it enables more footage and more frequent product drops then I fail to see something to hate on. There are a lot of brands that don't cater to what I like, but they all have their place and it's kinda dumb to expect every new brand that people are excited about to be exactly what you want.

The L logo looks like a middle schooler tried to make a logo for his imaginary metal band based off the logo on his moms Lexus. Big fan of the team I just hope they change the logo to the Peace Sign on the DVD

Graphics are meh and I can’t unsee the Yoshi egg in the logo. The video was just okay. I hate to say it, because I really like his style, but Cyrus needs to change it up. The back smith, back tail, fakie manny thing is getting a little stale. I was more excited to see him do a switch tre on flat rather than another steezy back tail backside flip. Max however, still manages to amaze me with his ability. He’s still pushing himself and learning new tricks (backside flip switch manny 180 out shocked me) whereas Cyrus seems stuck in the same tricks. Gimme a switch back tail or a back noseblunt or a front crook Cyrus! I don’t care about the rest of the team. Aaron Loreth seems like Max-lite, he did some good manuals tho. They are really doing a big favor to that dude with the second part and that gensis dude by starting a brand for them. They didn’t really match the skill of Cyrus and Max. Wouldn’t count on this brand lasting either.

for me, its cause the video sucked. if u treat it as full length u gotta make certain parts pop with contrast, it was like a 9 min same theme edit, think how well cheffed the best videos are, they got flavorfull parts in em too. whip u a good batch n that can carry a brand for years. this taste like microwave nuggets.

I think these are genuinely unoriginal designs in the same way that 3D, Business & Company, and Numbers had weak early graphics that eventually bricked their companies. Whereas Polar, FA, Palace, Magenta, Quasi all had interesting product out the gate. Even more jarring when you consider 917 broke up over everyone on the team complaining about the direction.
I don’t think the problem is that there’s too many new companies either. There’s just an over saturation of deck brands to the point that anything new has to at least look different than everything else. I think Frog has corny graphics, but they’re the only company that looks like that so they have real staying power. Someone tell me one thing Limousine is bringing to the table that I can’t get elsewhere?
But I have the reiterate that I thought the video was good, and it is a basis to build on. I like the dudes, I just don’t think this is going anywhere.

You're putting way too much stock into the image of the company, when it's literally just friends out skating and having fun. The main reasons why those companies bricked is purely on the people behind the companies, and their various reasons for not wanting to run a company. Here, we have an actual organic team, that hang out together, and skate, everything has come together in a more natural way. Also you're re-writing history if you think all those companies came out firing.
Limosine will do really well. Bookmark it.

admittedly, i was predisposed to liking this based on max palmer alone. but they didn't disappoint. to launch with a full length, boards and other shit all on the same day actually seemed pretty novel and exciting. and i dug the video a lot. the cyrus opener, long max part, and heavy hugo ender were sick. the rest of the gang peppered in between were cool too. good intro to the brand and the team. just kids having fun and doing their own thing. i'm a fan.

the art direction itself is very 90s. lots of 90s films like Batman or casper the ghost used this black/blue bright white lights from behind style so did plenty of old vhs covers or techno and house vinyls from that era.

I think they fucked up a pretty good thing by leaving Alex to do their own lower-concept version of 917. Now there's just no there there. The 917 team was a little bit excessive and incohesive before, now this team is equally so but with less star power. It lacks gravitas. It's like a film sequel without the original lead. The name, logos, board graphics, musical selection have all fallen off to different degrees. Nothing about it is more interesting or exciting, it's just less interesting and less exciting.

I’m not saying they ripped em off, theres lots of other cultural reference points here. The DVD cover gives off Dystopia vibes (also those mashed up rap album covers from No Limit) There’s a 90s revival across all of culture and these guys, along with bands like Candy, are just hitting on lots of notes from hardcore, industrial music, and techno like others have mentioned.

also reminds me of the aesthetic a lot of the hyperpop scene has been using, especially since they used a SOPHIE song during one of the homie montage parts in the middle of the video. Shit looks kind of like what SOPHIE was doing when she released PRODUCT, Charli's POP 2 aesthetic, and the more A.G. Cook influenced shit on PC Music too.

Haven't had time to watch the video yet, but based on the first product drop and general aesthetic, I really hope Andrew Wilson and Stu Kirst get on. They're both into hardcore and would fit in perfectly, especially since they seem to be part of that friend group. I feel like they're too talented, entertaining and relatively marketable to not have board sponsors.

Hell they should put Stu on just to do the graphics. The small run he did for Baker looks way better than anything from this drop or the last 917 drop.

Im relatively new to slap but I don't doubt that thats true. I think b roll can be really hit or miss for sure but if were talking about limosine, I think that logans past 917 b roll (minus the excessive drinking) has been interesting at least to me and I might've expected a similar amount of it this time.

Shops are getting the boards now. My shop is selling them for 70. Their direct to consumer is pricier to encourage people to go the shop route.

917 can stand on its own as a brand with image and could have done it without riders, probably without the same impact, it’s just a matter of presentation.
I cannot funnel all this in a single word but it made sense for what it is, or at least more than Limosine does right now.
I’m sure that the boys are not going to stop and will probably get there as the launch is surely an overwhelming task, but I cannot unsee 3D, Numbers etc all over for now.
Think that John’s vid was a lot better and it was just promoting them as riders, this video didn’t communicate much.

Agree with the too part but Thomas and Reynolds were only about 22 when they started zero and Baker. Alex may have actually had a more substantial career before starting his company than them.

Yeah, agree for sure, Bianca Chandon started strong and the 917 split from that (I have that hat). I don’t see 917 as just a rebrand of Bianca Chandon, because BC is still going. I’ve bought 917 decks and some cool stuff, but it seems to go with AO mood/motivation or maybe it was clashing with riders idk. Sometimes stuff is interesting and sometimes just phone number boring. 917 seems to have more in common (brand wise) with Sci-fi Fantasy than Limosine anyway.

you got this backwards. the max/cyrus crew already had a platform thanks to all of john wilson's vids, alex just co-opted that popularity by putting all those dudes on at once. he needed them more than they needed him. any success 917 saw was a fluke and with the benefit of hindsight, it's pretty clear AO never had what it takes to run a successful brand. how many years has it been since everyone quit and what has he done in the meantime? a couple of forgettable graphics and a radio party?

I saw those John Wilson videos but I still thought the crew was starting to take things seriously as a group as soon as somebody gave them boards. it seems like if it wasn't for 917 they'd all be on different companies without the insight into how to run or not to run a company. they should thank him for that. that guy taught them a lot whether they like him or not.

This video, along with the very untied graphics and image, made me feel that they were more like a homies production with a bunch of gear than an actual brand.
I hope that they make some adjustments in the near future because the team is sick, filming is great but get someone who can do branding.

Fashion, techno, appropriation of gay culture and random small businesses images, a weird number related to a answer machine.
917 can stand on its own as a brand with image and could have done it without riders, probably without the same impact, it’s just a matter of presentation.
I cannot funnel all this in a single word but it made sense for what it is, or at least more than Limosine does right now.
I’m sure that the boys are not going to stop and will probably get there as the launch is surely an overwhelming task, but I cannot unsee 3D, Numbers etc all over for now.
Think that John’s vid was a lot better and it was just promoting them as riders, this video didn’t communicate much.

This will be my most watched video of this year for sure. Always been a huge fan of these dudes and although I'm not a huge hardcore fan I found the music fit the skating very well and made the video exciting start to finish. Watched it 3 times already.
I don't understand why the brand is getting so much criticism here. They dropped their new brand with a dope full-length video and original designs, why make it more complicated than that?
I'm no economic genius but I assume they don't have the same budget for all the extra bs that some more established brands can do. Plus they are pro skaters, not artists, I can't imagine they have the time or resources to come out with the perfect graphics quite yet. I think they are creative and have a solid vision and will do some really cool stuff.

I like Cyrus but I feel he’s a budget Hjalte in that he has the same massive power but doesn’t diversify. I’ll still watch him do the same 5 things just like I watched so many other pros do throughout their careers, but let’s not act like he saved 917 in any way. Outside of Slap I don’t think these riders are as popular as people think. Maybe Nik or Max, but that could be a stretch.
There’s a lot of way shittier local brands that survive in pockets all over the country. They don’t need a huge contingent of customers to stay afloat and if they’re going BBS and less boxy shapes they will become an alt FA/Hockey for people that don’t like those shapes but like the image somewhat.

definitely. these graphics are basically the same, but crappier. color schemes and proportions are just a little bit off. here's hoping they hire a design consultant or something to tune things up on their next drop. just a little improvement would go a long way, imo. i want this to succeed.

I really enjoyed the video. The team is stacked, everyone has a distinct style and it's clear they're all just homies trying to make something together; which I really respect. As far as the graphics and imagery, I've said this before but I think the brand's unique and just needs some time to grow into itself. It's clear they have a vision and I think the video outlined that well. I agree they should find room for Stu Kirst and Andrew Wilson. Stu can contribute some great art for graphics and new Andrew footy is always a treat.
If they had the "Nice to meet you, I'm an artist" guy do some art for guest boards I'd buy them all.

Nobody stole anyone lol. They all quit because Alex Olson sucked to ride for. I don't get why anyone would feel sorry for Alex when he admitted he was completely absent from the actual skateboarding side of it for the last few years. He couldn't even turn up to his own companies video premiere despite living on the same street as where the premiere was being held. Also the whole graphics thing just seems like one big joke when Alex himself said on his Nine Club he literally does not care and will just send clip art through to get printed on boards.

Cyrus & Max Palmer were skating together for a long time before Alex started 917. they were always on Quartersnacks and in low key indie edits. They also haven't really bad mouthed him - just said they were over the company and he was pretty lack lustre in his attitude to running it - which he himself confirmed.

I have no problem with these graphics. But I think I'm at the point where as long as they aren't embarrassing or awkward, then we good. This first run of graphics is nothing to scoff at, really, and it seems like an image is being established in its early stages.

I really like the "blank" board, I've honestly hoped that more board brands would do heavily minimal graphics like this more often. Also the Glam board isn't really too bad either, it would be funny/entertaining to see some machismo/hesh dude skating one of those, and you're gonna boardslide the graphic off anyways so why even choose to ride a board with a graphic you really like? Whenever I did that it made me avoid boardslides so I can look at it longer, which is lame. Skateboards are meant to be destroyed so buy something that skates well and you don't mind destroying. If you like the graphic hang it on your wall.

I only paid $10 shipping on a deck and dvd. Also the boards are screen printed, which $70 isn’t really all that steep for. And it comes with free grip. Plus if $10 shipping is still bad, orchard has $5 shipping to the lower 48 and free shipping to New England

Pink Glam board is sick. I skated it it's the Brophy 8.5 14.75 Girl shape but BBS. Tiny mellow tail. No one (not even AO) understood 917 as a weird shape company. Skating the 8.5 14.1 917 slick rn. Hard to find in other places. 917 and Limosine might just be rounded-kick FA shape companies

Same. I really like the whole minimal 917 art as well; it was a breath of fresh air compared to FA/Hockey. Nothing like skating boards that look surfy, shits fun. I kinda like Frog for the same reason even though their graphics suck, they have a chill vibe going on. The FA vibe sorta bums me out since they're so gloomy/edgy, I was a fan as a teen but I find skateboarding to be really fun and totally not depressing these days.
Those blanks shoulda been price points tho IMO. Maybe not tho, it might be like pennies in difference between having an actual graphic.

I think at least on SLAP this brand was hyped up so much leading up to the release of the video that it created expectations that were gonna be impossible to fulfill no matter what you do, but I wasn't a fan.
The music wasn't good. And I say this as someone who has a pretty open mind for music in skate videos. The songs by and large are hard to listen to, and full parts from Cyrus, Hugo, and Max Palmer are weighed down by the heelflip jean shorts dude and Aidan Mackey's sister.
I thought that Karim guy was cool. Loved Aaron Loreth's section. Genesis Evans footage was chill, but good lord the song was rough.
For being a little over 20 minutes the video feels super long.
Definitely a step down from the 917 videos, but hopefully the next video offering will have a better soundtrack at least.
Not that it's a comparison, but I liked "Hit Video" way more and it has a lot of the same skaters.
I will still buy several boards from them most likely lmao. Cyrus and Max Palmer pro models = take my money.

The Polar hanging roller skater/longboard graphic and the dude with the scooter through their chest is still pretty corny imo. I'm not a huge fan of the font on the snake pit and cyrus board but other than that I think the Limosine graphics are fine so far.

well actually his skating is driving me nuts how his back toes always hang over his tail and are about to toe drag on anything and his stupid trucks shaking around. his ability to grind for 1 second and the editor putting It in slow mo so it looks like a decent grind.
he also makes some insane shit grinding on walls and stuff but most of the time it pisses me of that everything gets hated on except this core New York hipster crew. its not fashion lifestyle hipster its just pure skateboarding hipster. people that like him will hate on anything so I won't shy away from criticizing it the same way as others.

I think you dont get what Max is giving "us" (= people that love his skating) by skating the way he does? It is about flow, creativity and fun (at least for me) like he doesn't plan most of his tricks. On top of that, he comes off as such a mellow, down-to-earth character and seems like a skate rat (e.g., building DIY spots).
I bet you're one of the dudes that sees skateboarding as a meritocracy (which it is obviously not)?

To settle the debate, Max Palmer's specialty is doing tricks that blur the lines between tricks. Like, "did he mean to wallride into that? Was that a nollie tailslide or a nollie 180 switch crook and does it matter? Did he just noseblunt a rock? Willie grind to back smith the other side of a ledge? Angle iron on a bank is a spot? How does he ollie hippie jump things with such ease?"
Some of what he does is only possible with his super squirrelly trucks. Sometimes, he just looks out for squirrels. Sometimes subtle, but definitely an artist.

Seems a bit silly. There's no company on the planet that nail every aspect of running a brand. Sometimes they have weak graphics, dodgy edits etc. As a whole Polar is God tier compared to 95% of the industry.
Also We Blew It At Some Point is a masterpiece. This dope is fried.

Not that it will ever happen but wouldn't it be great if, after all that, he ended up riding for like Flip or some shit like Darkstar. And was genuinely like "this...this is what I'm talking about" pointing at his basic pro model in a non-ironic/non-money chasing way. Would melt minds.

Im not hating, not everyone needs to be a jolly good time 24/7, but i can understand why someone might quit. Some of the graphics are kinda busted too. Funny tho bc Limo graphics are not much better… maybe even worse depending on your taste. I still skate a lot of polar decks tho, it doesn’t have to be that deep.

Never heard of them, but I just tried to watch their last video and couldn’t get past the first minute. The tricks were good but they just looked so uncomfortable on their boards I couldn’t take it. I’m sure it probably got better, but that was my experience anyway. Lots of really wavy arms and wacky inflatable man moments in that first minute lol

Im not hating, not everyone needs to be a jolly good time 24/7, but i can understand why someone might quit. Some of the graphics are kinda busted too. Funny tho bc Limo graphics are not much better… maybe even worse depending on your taste. I still skate a lot of polar decks tho, it doesn’t have to be that deep.
Was it by chance while filming for that clip where they had the shopping trolley with the sheet metal and pole etc? I can understand that being a stress fest for Pontus trying to make a specific type of video. Regular sesh tho fuk that.

I enjoy Jenkem on the whole, but basically any of their "analysis" is painful to read; Beachy especially, who I don't find to be a remotely compelling writer.

I think you're essentially correct. I have read the book, and while it had some really good moments that I appreciated and even at times enjoyed reading, I came away from it thinking mainly "Man it must be really hard to write well about skateboarding," because there were times that it fell so completely flat. It seems to me that writing about skateboarding and writing about music should have a lot of similarities, but skateboarding has yet to produce someone like Griel Marcus, someone with considered opinions and the ability to express them concisely and with some erudition while remaining mostly free of writerly pretension.

And regarding Kyle Beachy… I’m glad he helped break open the genre of skate lit but I agree with everyone above. If you really want the full experience without reading anything you can listen to Vent City and notice how sort of like bitter and self-critical he is. It's really hard to think seriously about skateboarding and write about it in a way that goes beyond the ordinary puff-piece type of skate media, so props to anyone who tries, even if they don't quite nail it all the time. That said, Beachy is like an underdeveloped creative writing professor character from a mediocre indie film about people who cheat on their partners and feel bad about it or something. He seems like the kind of person who would say "I am an author!" as a flex when he got all worked up.
Pardon the expression, but Beachy is more or less the “tallest midget” in the field of skateboard writing. It’s usually so terrible that anyone with a BA can stand out. With that said, I haven’t read the book yet and it got pretty good reviews from a number of places, so maybe I’ll have to revise my opinion at some point.
I think you're essentially correct. I have read the book, and while it had some really good moments that I appreciated and even at times enjoyed reading, I came away from it thinking mainly "Man it must be really hard to write well about skateboarding," because there were times that it fell so completely flat. It seems to me that writing about skateboarding and writing about music should have a lot of similarities, but skateboarding has yet to produce someone like Griel Marcus, someone with considered opinions and the ability to express them concisely and with some erudition while remaining mostly free of writerly pretension.

I get that entirely. I'm in the minority of liking longer boards, but being 6'1" with long ass legs and big feet, it just feels comfortable skating a longer board. Either way, I might just go for it and buy one.

Well, the song in my part for sure, that song should not be in a skate video at all. I didn’t like the whole modern art vibe to it all, I didn’t like that Big Boy pants were a thing, and it almost all felt trendy in a way. Their graphics also felt kind of hit and miss, like I would like one graphic out of a whole season of boards. Towards the end Emile [Laurent], Paul [Grund], and Hjalte would do some of the graphics and those were cool, but everything else just wasn’t my vibe. Like I’m fully committed to my homies on the team, but I’m not fully committed to this company.

Yeah, nothing too crazy though. There would be disagreements from time to time on skate trips. Sometimes he would just put off a bad vibe and it would trip me out, but I’m also just a different person than he is. That’s my friend and I understand that at the end of the day you’re the boss, but it just never felt comfortable. I knew I wasn’t going to be there forever.

Yeah, there was. I saw the graphic that was mocked up for my pro board and it would have been a graphic that, if that was my pro board, I would have cried - and not tears of joy. I mean shoutout to Pontus for the gesture in wanting to turn me pro but I wasn’t feeling the graphic.
Seems a bit silly. There's no company on the planet that nail every aspect of running a brand. Sometimes they have weak graphics, dodgy edits etc. As a whole Polar is God tier compared to 95% of the industry.
Also We Blew It At Some Point is a masterpiece. This dope is fried.

deadass man, the only reason i continue to purchase is bc of BBS wood, i got used to the shape and i like having a lot of empty white on the board so that it's easy to see the wear on the board so you know how old the board is getting. just that 1/3 of the board with a shitty drawing or "modern art" really fuckin sucks

honestly, i didn’t really understand the hype behind the clothing because i bought the surf pants and they just don’t do it for me and i have a hat of theirs that i love because of how it fits. other than that i was like eh whatever. but i got a couple pairs of the 93s and my girlfriend got me this really sick shirt of theirs and dude the quality of their denim and their pricier shirts are so worth it.
as for the boards/graphics they make some really timeless stuff. that notre dame board and the jacob ovgren/oski board where the kid is sitting on the bike holding a gun are amazing. even to the point where i couldn’t even skate them just had to put them on the wall.

yes, that's what I recall, too, but having injuries isnt something unusual and with a certain level of loyality between brand and skaters this wouldnt cause problems. For instance, I doubt pontus is going to kick off oski when he doesnt recover as quickly as expected... but I'll guess the answer is just those guys werent marketable enough compared with the next generation

yes, that's what I recall, too, but having injuries isnt something unusual and with a certain level of loyality between brand and skaters this wouldnt cause problems. For instance, I doubt pontus is going to kick off oski when he doesnt recover as quickly as expected... but I'll guess the answer is just those guys werent marketable enough compared with the next generation

Polar graphics are consistently good, frog is an acquired taste in my opinion. That Jalba graphic with the cat next to the tree was so sick though.
So far, I've not been blown away by Limo graphics but they're a far cry from bad.

Limosine is rad, Polar is rad, Frog is rad.
I don't care much about graphics from boards if the shapes and wood are nice.
I like Limosine's output so far.

loved seeing kliewer skate in person. dude just has the sickest style. he even made skating the skatehalle looking real good and fun. once i kind of tried to trace after him just to understand how he'd hit this route. it wasn't like i tried to run a train with him, i had some distance, so if he'd bail, i could easily just go somewhere else. but the guy just never bailed anything. at some point i think he noticed i was following him and glanced back, smiled but shook his head. i was pretty ashamed lol. it was basically my way of showing my adoration for the dudes skating. i was just baffled how he approached the whole park because he took some wild transfers or swerves and such.

917's AI generated boards are all 6.75" wide with pointed noses and you have to set them up with rollerskate trucks. I saw Alex working on their next catalogue in a hair salon.

That's what I assumed. Maybe it's one less expense to have the website up and running after each drop has shipped. Otherwise they could've just used the Limo L logo and a "under construction" over a one color backdrop or something. Enjoying what Limosine has put out video wise so far. Glad to know its not going anywhere
