ill start by saying brandon starr is a skater you should stay away from. that man looks like he smokes and sells meth. well, that guy is from florida so he probably is. i even offered him a hit of my bowl one time he was like “i dont smoke”. moments later hes smoking a fucking joint. he also lies about not skating for supreme. he looks like he’ll stab or even SHOOT you just by looking at him. he does not like to be bothered and i made a mistake by doing so. fuck brandon starr for thinking im a bozo and a kook and for also removing me from his followers on instagram and making his page private.

This thread is now about steak. Best steakhouse I ever been to was in Calgary, Alberta- green salad, cheese stuffed double baked taters and mouthwatering slabs of beef. I was into cooking steaks at home a few years ago before the price of beef went sky high, just pan-frying them because I didn't and still don't have a proper grill. Wal-Mart was airing these great advertisement showing Hispanic families cooking these delicious-looking steaks at home, let's just say I wasted a lot of money buying crappy ribeyes and such from fucking Wal-Mart, I don't know what I was thinking. I'd really like to try a Brazilian churrasqueira or Argentinian steakhouse, the green chimichurri sauce or whatever its called is so bomb.

How do you guys like your steaks cooked and what do you get on the side? I'm a medium rare guy and I love Santa Maria style BBQ Tri-Tip with chicken, garlic bread, Ranch beans and Macaroni salad.

get a ribeye, season with salt and pepper a good bit, you can use thyme if you want. cast iron skillet, cook it medium rare and while cooking baste it with butter. use oil to start, wait till it starts to sizzle before throwing steak on and instead of 3 mins each side, do about 1 and flip, then flip again and start to melt a good portion of butter over the steak. as it cooks and butter melts, keep using spoon to pick up butte spilling into pan and continue to pour it back on. flip after 2 mins then continue for the other 2, use more butter if you will. i like to use half portion for one side then half for the other. once it’s cooked 6 mins you’re ready to go. when not doing this method i like to make a mushroom sauce to pour over the steak. that’s honestly my favorite way but it’s a bit rich so i try to space it out.

It's one of those hilarious yet sad and disturbing indicators of the impending doom that is humanity.
OP I'm gonna give you some real advice here. Most of your posts are about flow/am/hyped skaters you've met in person that were weirded out by you. Try a different approach. Google the definition of "tact" and proceed from there. It's ok to tell someone you appreciate their skating, but do it in a way that doesn't make them uncomfortable. They have anxiety just like the rest of us. Or, just leave them alone and go skate or play video games or whatever.

Steak is so good.
Last week I went to a steakhouse nearby and had a Chianina Fiorentina. Basically a thick t-bone (3 fingers minimum by definition) from an ancient Roman breed of cow. Fucking delicious. It was cooked over a wood fire and they had the meat hanging in the center of restaurant on top of the bar in a glass case. The owner and boss hacked the meat up on a giant butcher block with a giant knife directly in front of the fire.
About a month ago I got an end cut Fiorentina which was over 4 fingers thick and weighed about 2.5 kilos. It was fucking enormous. I cooked it at home in cast iron with some butter. It was delicious.
I've eaten Kobe beef in Kobe. That was one of the best meals I've ever eaten in my life.
I've eaten several times at Peter Luger. The first time I ate there I was quite young and my father gave me a gift certificate for christmas. That was when I first understood how good steak could be.
I used to use my ex-girlfriend's bridge card to buy porterhouses at Easter Market in Detroit which we would take up north camping to cook over the fire. A real cowboy style steak.
Steak tartare is something I regularly go out with a friend to eat, maybe once a month.
It's always gotta be rare. If I'm eating steak that's not quality enough to eat rare, it's not worth the detriments to my health.

A nice, easy steak marinade (if yer tired of the ole salt and pepper) is to mix teriaki, soy sauce, olive oil, and brown sugar. Let that beautiful hunk of meat (porterhouse for me) sit in it for 24 hrs, grill to medium over charcoal, and eat.

This is more or less how I make steak and it's the best. Sometimes I put a lil rosemary on top and save the thyme for the butter and garlic basting.

Anybody ever sous vide a steak? It’s kinda a process but it turns out really good. Still gotta sear it after but you don’t have to worry as much about over cooking it.
Medium rare is the only way. And if you’re not butter basting that bitch you’re doing it wrong.

Since you are in NYC I recommend the classic Peter Luger but bring (a lot of) cash, they don't take cards! Also I think Keens is maaaaybe even better its somewhere in the 30s can't remember for sure. Cool old man steakhouse vibe with tons of pipes sticking into the ceiling, both spots are musts. At Peter Luger they won't fuck with well done you'll take what they give you and that's that. Also don't even bother with sides at either place, they don't care about them at all neither should you.

The two best steaks of my life were in Montevideo, Uruguay at the old town market, and a Brazilian place in Toronto. I can't seem to ever come close to either with my skills and it eats at my soul.
At the Montevideo spot it was traditional asado, so wood grilled with all the other cuts brought out on huge platters. They had one grilled red pepper as garnish for a table of 8 people...veggies it seemed were not that important.

in all seriousness, veganism is definitely not classist. vegan food (rice, noodles, beans, tofu, veggies, bread etc) is much cheaper than meat/dairy. i'm a college student who makes about 10-12k a year and i'm still vegan. i also see the "no ethical consumption under capitalism" argument quite a bit; ethically consuming things like plastic, gas etc is definitely tricky. however, you can (much more) ethically consume food simply by buying different (and cheaper) things at the grocery store. veganism is quite literally the easiest thing you can do overnight to improve the state of this planet; you minimize not only your negative environmental impact but you minimize animal abuse as well. if a huge part of leftism is about social equality, then why are we okay with the mass abuse of animals?

Yes. I’m working towards veganism and relying on vegetables, whole grains, tofu, etc is noticeably cheaper. it’s when it comes to all this processed meat substitutes like impossible meat when it becomes more classist. It’s so heavily marketed that people think of that as their option instead of meat, which is problematic and unsustainable

yeah, that shit is absurdly expensive. the problem there lies in the fact that people (my previous self included) have been socially conditioned to essentially rely on animal proteins being the main part of their dishes when they cook. so when people think about going vegan, they think that means buying beyond/impossible etc. nah you just gotta switch up the way you cook. it's kinda comparable to learning a new way to skate, like learning slappies or transition etc. it's really fun

thus it makes no sense to draw the line for others if they are leftist or not, just because they don't put the same emphasis on veganism as you. it's more a post-left thing, as in, if we'd alreadylive in an actual leftist society, which could be something like socialism, or communism, or some form of leftist syndicalism or whatever... then that would be something that would probably adressed wholesale. but on the other hand how would that be done without authoritarian mandates?
the reason i'm opposed to the idea of total veganism is that it's authoritarian in concept. veganism objectively is the best form of consumption imo, but what food you put in your body is a very subjective, personal thing. and before someone says "yo frank, you love vaccines so much, for sure you are for mandates, right?" no mfer stfu, i am pro-vax, but anti-mandate. for the same reason.
but that's not to say that veganism and animal rights can't be an important part for you and other leftists. the only way you could inherently connect it to leftism tho would be via economics. so the question would be in what way veganism empowers workers worldwide to liberate themselves. but many workers in the world, unfortunately, have to work in the meat industry. so as long as they still have to hustle for their bosses and can not decide themselves to dismantle the meatplant and start a greenhouse instead, it would not be a show of solidarity with those workers, but rather a fuck you. and those workers could be lost to fascists causes worst case. and even if these workers were all vegans themselves already, they might still have to partake in meatpacking or butchering out of economic necessity to earn a living wage.

I've tried multiple times to kill animals for their meat and I can't do it. I come from a midwest hunting fishing background. We were very poor when I was growing up and I loved thanksgiving because in my family it was the only time that I got to eat vegetables. When I was 16 over 30 years ago I asked my mom if it was okay that I didn't eat meat. She could care less at the time and I have happily never eaten meat since. I'm not one to judge do you but if it takes a shit I won't eat it

Facts. I'm sympathetic to veganism, but I'm certainly not an absolutist about it. I'd honestly prefer only eating stuff that i killed myself on a hunt, ya know that way there's a sporting chance and also that way you can fully accept the consequences of your meat consumption by taking a life and having to sit with that. But then again, nature itself is far from egalitarian, so although equality is a maxim to strive for as self aware creatures, we cannot pretend that we live in a fair and just world. We can only do our part and work together to try and make things better

get a ribeye, season with salt and pepper a good bit, you can use thyme if you want. cast iron skillet, cook it medium rare and while cooking baste it with butter. use oil to start, wait till it starts to sizzle before throwing steak on and instead of 3 mins each side, do about 1 and flip, then flip again and start to melt a good portion of butter over the steak. as it cooks and butter melts, keep using spoon to pick up butte spilling into pan and continue to pour it back on. flip after 2 mins then continue for the other 2, use more butter if you will. i like to use half portion for one side then half for the other. once it’s cooked 6 mins you’re ready to go. when not doing this method i like to make a mushroom sauce to pour over the steak. that’s honestly my favorite way but it’s a bit rich so i try to space it out.

These guys got it pretty much right. I’ve been cooking professionally for like 13 years or some shit and the spot I currently work at sells a shit ton of steaks. I do pretty much this method but your heat in the cast iron is important. I let it rip with vegetable oil until it just starts to smoke then knock my heat down to about medium low. That’s when I drop my steak in. This is a slow and low kind of approach but your going to build a killer crust this way. I flip only once as I’m trying to build that crust equally in both sides. Once I flip in goes the butter (a lot of it) rosemary thyme and a couple cloves of garlic. I crush the garlic under my knife right before I drop it in. Then yea baste the shit out of it. With those j.b.prince spoons if you got ‘em, they’re like 30 bucks but dope. Once you get the temp you want rest the fucker for god sakes. It will bleed everywhere and be a mess if you don’t. That’s why I always pull my steaks about 15 degrees under where I want them to end up.
And for the sous vide guy. I use this method with filet sometimes if it’s going to be a king hell night. I’ll put like 20 steaks neatly in a cryovac bag with rosemary thyme crushed garlic and butter (same shit I baste with) and set my sous vide to like 90 degrees. When you pull them out all you have to do is sear them and your ready to go with a rare steak. Anything over that I just use a hot oven to bring them up.
Tl;dr I cook a lot of steaks lol

I saw on some Food Network show a long time ago that there's a breakfast place in Colorado that does a huge like 5 or 6-egg Omelet with cut up chicken fried steak and gravy inside. Now that sounds fucking good

Back to steak though, who’s got the good recommend for tasty steak dinner on the cheap?
In Oregon, the bars are required to serve food as well, and I had the best damn $14 steak dinner in my life at some joint in Portland. Well cooked/seasoned beef, though not very large, or fancy a cut, complete w/ a couple sides. Tall draw of local suds was only another $4.
I went back there almost every night on that trip.
Sure wish I could remember the name of the place.
Or at least which street it was on.
Or much of anything about that trip beyond the cheap steak dinner I discovered but can no longer locate.

Chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy is delicious. I have had chicken fried steak sandwich as well it was like a big ass one cut up into sliders. So damn good.

My dad spent a lot of time in Tennessee and Mississippi for work in the late 70's and early 80's. Still talks about the chicken fried steak he would get down there.
