Title: Going to Mallorca / Majorca for something
Post by: BigManTing on April 07, 2022, 08:39:39 AM
Trying to organise a trip to Mallorca this year. Found some decent looking airbnb's, obvs there's tons of spots.

But what's the public transport system like over there. Had a look and found they've only got two metro lines and I don't fancy lugging loads of gear and trying to get a group to navigate buses. Should I just bite the bullet and rent a van?

Please pipe up about any over info, don't be shy

Hahah metro lol.

Nah mate that shit is basically useless there.

I'd say you if you're without a car (like me) and relying on public buses (they're totally fine) book something around Palma, like any area between Cala Major and Can Pastilla/Arenal. The first area being WAY nicer than the latter. The latter has more raves if that's what you're into tho.

I'd tho suggest to rent a car at least for a few days cos there's a bunch of stuff (beaches, spots) in the Alcudia / East area.
If you're stuck in Palma and surrounding it's cool as well, there's a skatepark, a DIY, that beautiful plaza from Thrasher Plazacation and it's a city, so there's spots. Kinda popping in the summer, it's fun.

Two precious advices:

Beware the heat if you're going in the summer, it's no joke mate.

Avoid Magaluf at ALL costs if you don't wanna spend your holiday in a Spanish Newcastle Upon Tyne or any twat ridden UK coastal town that they forgot to bomb come armageddon come.

Have fun!! Place is the shit!!

Playa Camp de Mar in Andratx is another good beach. Cala Major is great too.

To back up what @Mark Renton said, I visited Mallorca and stayed at a hotel right in the heart of Palma and had no issue getting around. Took the bus to a couple of beaches/touristy spots but otherwise walked most of the time. That being said, there's supposed to be some dope beaches on the other side of the island that you can really only get to if you rent a car.

And DEFINITELY stay away from Magaluf like they said (and Peguera, the German area) unless you're REALLY into wasted english people getting sunburnt...

Yeah I've been there. It's a bit of a bust that joint and not quiet as amazing as Tom and Rune made it look.

Take big some big wheels as the pavement can be rough.

Edit: People at Shine and Kingdom Skate shops are good people.

Paguera actually gets really good surf from time to time and Yes, some nice beaches (good surf too) in the north, but they don't hold a candle to Australian beaches...
