Title: Michelada recipe/appreciation thread
Post by: NORTHBYMIDWEST on April 09, 2022, 12:20:29 PM
If I had to pick a favorite drink outside of water it would be a michelada. I don't really dig the premade tall boy boy micheladas but if you're broke down and the boogie man is chasing you one will work in a pinch, I recommend either the Budweiser picante or the red Modelo variety. There is a little sea food joint by my job that makes them with chamoy and a shrimp on the rim and they're fucking delicious. Over the past couple years i've been working on my own recipe and I think its pretty good, not as good as the aforementioned restaurant but pretty good.

Micheladas J.D. Style:

1 ice cold mexican beer (dark modelo separates the men from the boys)
2 tall shots clamato
1 1/2-ish oz lime juice (fresh)
1/4 tsp magi sauce
1/4 tsp Worcestershire (lea & perrins)
1/2 tsp valentina
liberal amount of tajin and old bay sprinkled on the top, sometimes I'll add a little hatch chili powder too

You mean “breakfast?” I can’t drink one after 12pm. Super chavela lunch.

I've only tried the ones already in a can.

No place near me I know serves these so I want to try to make my own with y'all's recipe.

Hell yeah dude! The only ingredient that’s tricky to find (in southwest Michigan anyway) is the maggi sauce but most Mexican grocery stores will have it. I’ve been tweaking it for a long time so the recipe is up for interpretation, especially when it comes to the lime and Worcestershire. I like mine extra limey and kinda light on the Worcestershire.

I make them super quick and dirty when I am in the garage.

Hearty splash of Clamato juice
Few big ass ice cubes
Tecate/Modelo
Old Bay shaken all over the top
Tablespoon Tapatio

Always wanted to try different ones but I am usually too lazy to get more ingredients.

I’ll have to check out those Estrella Jalisco tall boys, I haven’t tried one yet. I don’t think I ever even seen one in the wild, I live in southwest mi though so selection is sometimes limited.

Hell yeah, I make them like this sometimes too, especially once I’ve had a few haha. It’s a lot of work making them on a drink by drink basis, I need to cop a pitcher.

Idk about regional differences but I think that a proper michelada comes with ice cubes. I don’t use ice cubes because my ice cube maker is broken haha

I am desperately trying to find a Tecate Michelada.

I’ve driven around LA following up on internet search results but it’s nowhere to be found.
The Tecate website itself doesn’t even list it.
Am I shit out of luck?

Has anyone still seen a version of these on shelves?
