Title: 180 manual tricks
Post by: ChuckRamone on April 28, 2022, 11:14:20 PM
These are very challenging. I'm trying to do bs half-cab manuals and I've landed one out of maybe a hundred or more tries. I'd like to learn some other ones too. I know each variation must have its own specific aspects to learn but I was wondering if there are any general tips for these.

Don't think about the 180, aim to reach a certain picture perfect position when you land on top of the pad regardless of the maneuver up (position as in whichever manny you want to lock into, for instance if you're going to halfcab nosewheelie then don't think about the halfcab, think about fakie ollieing up the pad into what you ideally want to then feel and control like a straight nosewheelie). The more you will focus over the 180 or whatever the trick in is, the more distracted you will be from your actual goal which is finding then holding the balance, not just spinning up the obstacle.

Thanks for that tip. I've been trying to focus on just the manual and that helps, as well as focusing on my momentum in the direction I'm rolling. I've also been trying to rotate faster so I don't do any of the rotation after landing. I know that goes against what you said about just picturing the manual but I think maybe my half-cabs in general could be smoother so this is a good chance to work on those too.

John Dilo talks about this on his nine Club episode he says he focuses on landing straight down into the manual

180 manual tricks are deceptively hard. I’ve been trying back 180 switch manny and can’t do it for the life of me, but it doesn’t seem too hard on paper.

I like the idea of trying to focus on landing into the right manual position and less on the 180 in. I’ll give that a try.

Won't bother with tips as many have already said good ones but just a good visual example is this guy. He does both the land-pivot-pump style and the whole 180 land solid style in many different varieties
