Title: 'strange' things that you often do in life
Post by: realbasedgod112 on May 08, 2022, 09:01:08 PM
use this thread to post about miscellaneous things you do in daily life that could be considered odd. onto me now:

hello SLAP. i am making this thread to tell you of an anecdote of my life. gather round, get a warm drink, take a seat.
in recent days i have developed a strange little quirk, that now comes to me unconsciously. it all started one night when i was rather squiffy, blitzed, ripped, jacked, turnt, trashed, etc. i was playing a sort of game with some friends, where we would try to throw a can and have it land upright and stay on the top of a tall, narrow shelf. while i was throwing it, i began to vocalise a sort of 'pscchwww' sound as if i were imitating a fast car.
this trait stayed with me, and only developed as time went on. i would go 'bah' if i was playfully hitting my cat, or 'whhiitt' if i was closing a door or doing any similar motion. it became second nature, and i didn't even think of it until today when someone looked at me rather incredulously, and almost in the patronising way that you would speak to a disabled person in.

anyway i thought that was pretty interesting. please write your stories or things! :)

Spend unhealthy amounts of time being pissed on the internet.

I made a tea but didn't have any sugar so I put two sour patch kids in it.
I'll sit in some weird position with my ankle completely flipped over or my hand completely bent and it's like in the back of my head I know it's hurting but for some reason I'm ignoring it then itl just snap to focus and I'll be like oh I just sprained my ankle while watching a movie lol

in england theres an old wivestale about magpies.  one for sorrow, two for joy.
so if i see a single magpie to counteract any bad luck i say 'fuck off magpie'

or getting almost sexually aroused at ploughed fields could be considered strange in some circles

Hahaha, no worries.

...Did you hear about the medieval siege where the attackers ran out of ammunition? So, they loaded a severed peasant’s head onto a trebuchet and fired it.

By sheer luck, it hit the King’s son and knocked him off the battle field.

Apparently it was the first ever serf face to heir missile.

OK, I'll stop... :-X

Whenever I get a song stuck in my head and I'm singing it to myself I gradually change the lyrics to make it as vulgar as possible.

Fuck these people are the worst. Literally had the same thing happen at an old job. Same thing time wise but I'd ride my bike for like twenty five mins before sunrise to get to work before everyone and load up trucks. That way when everyone else turned up shit was ready so they could go. Dickheads all complained because I got to leave early (even tho I too also always did a full day's work) so then I have to come in at 7 and all these dickheads sit around doing nothing while I load up the trucks.

How to mess with them? Have to figure out a way that makes them now waste time and have to be at work the extra half hour every day.

I'd leave at 2:15 and ask this guy to clock out for you at 3. That will piss him off for sure. And fart in the office before you leave.

Constant vocal/mouth noises ranging from gutteral yelps to frog sounds to high squeals (and anything else you could think of).
Like Michael Winslow having a stroke or a melted Bobby McFerrin tape.

Glad to know I'm not the only one here who goes about their day making strange/funny noises. I catch myself making goofy ass noises or doing impressions of different TV/movie characters all the time. Don't know when it started, but it hasn't slowed down as I've aged.
I also tend to drink my coffee on the toilet before leaving for work. Trying to kill two birds with one stone, but usually end up still leaving just a little behind schedule.

Really? That's dope! Care to share anything you've unearthed?

In the UK are there any hazards since there might be unexploded ordinance from WWII? Though I suppose more so in urban areas rather than in farmland?

The reason I ask is that I currently live in Tokyo and every few years they uncover unexploded bombs while doing construction excavation.

heard of bomb squad being called for unexploded ordnance many times.  only thing ive had is a surface to aeroplane bullet, was probably about 6 inched long, 2 inches of that being the bullet projectile.  i gave it my boss whos into guns, he seperated it somehow and drilled out the bullet for a keyring hanger.  luckily im very careful, want surgical incisions to find the target.  last thing i want to do is put my spade through  an ancient coin or a bomb.  find plenty of empty 303 shells and musket balls.

no, theyre from the internet, just included them as an interesting titbit.  i have thought about getting a drone and looking myself but cant really sensibly afford it.
i have found unknown stuff on google earth though, only visible on certain year layers and not on the other.  as the crop difference may only be visible for a week until the rest of the crop balances out.  not got permission to go check them out though.
i have found 4 unknown sites i have been on, one by a pottery and building stone scatter found fieldwalking.  2 by chance on land permissions i gained.  and the best one from studying the map, looking at land contours, sources of water, sun traps, nearby ancient trackways and pinpointing a field that looked promising.  thats where i found the bronze age gold.  none of those are visible in aerial photos but the proof is in the ground.  got nearly 400 bronze roman coins, all dug one at a time in about a ten mile radius of my house.  im luckily in the heart of roman villa hotspot here in uk, but its been inhabited since early stone age all through to modern day

Slap a NAMBLA bumper sticker on the back of their car.  They’ll be driving around for a week wondering why everyone else on the road is screaming at them in a blind rage all the sudden.

That reminds me of the time I had this pro bent over, and she was dry so I spit on my dick. She immediately stopped and complaining of bacteria grabbed a wet wipe and used it to clean off the condom before bending back over. She was deff lemon fresh between the legs after that.

When I'm asked about how I am feeling/enjoying things or how things are, I can't really every just be like great. I take the question serious and start assessing how I am feeling and usually can't give a clear non rambling answer.

Tidying up and organizing things that do not need to be cleaned or rearranged. Excessive laundry- washing clothes that don't really need washing. OCD is a bitch
That reminds me, counting to 12 or tapping or doing things 12 times. It's not a conscious thing, and I stop myself when I notice it. I developed ticks when I was younger but realized it could keep getting worse and forced myself to stop the behaviors. Only the 12 thing and weird tapping patterns when I'm not paying attention seem to linger.

Wow 2 weeks? The longest I have gone through without a shower were 6 days and I couldn't take it anymore

If I don't shower for like 2 weeks my balls start to smell like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

how do you not get dandruff

Wow 2 weeks? The longest I have gone through without a shower were 6 days and I couldn't take it anymore

Let's see who holds the record
I did wildland fire for a few years. I would regularly go for an entire 2 week assignment without showering. Thats 2 weeks of working hard labor in the sun without a shower. It got a bit ripe.

Also related, one of the guys I used to work with in the forest told me that one time after the season was over, he was talking to some girls at a bar and he inadvertently blew a snot rocket. Just completely forgot that he wasn't in the middle of nowhere with 20 other dudes.

Ohh shit that's a good one! How bad is the smell?

Maybe spray sometimes when he passes by so people think it's actually him farting lol

UPDATE:

he noticed the smell almost immediately, called maintenance to take his trash out

i think spraying it on the chair worked, he has been sniffling/coughing

i need more ideas

trying to not laugh at work

When I'm asked about how I am feeling/enjoying things or how things are, I can't really every just be like great. I take the question serious and start assessing how I am feeling and usually can't give a clear non rambling answer.

For my first summer job, I worked as a porter at a country club, hauling things around, sometimes cleaning the pool, setting up for events, etc. At the beginning of each day, my supervisor and I would walk the premises and discuss what needed to be done. Invariably, we'd run into a member who'd ask my supervisor how he was doing, or what was going on, and invariably he'd take the opportunity to tell them, in excruciating detail, how his life was going, or what he'd recently been up to. Then, at the end of the story, he'd turn the event into a teachable moment, admonishing the poor sap for asking the question in the first place: "You know _____, you shouldn't ask such personal questions if you don't really want to hear the answer..."

It was fucked.

Good on you. Went through some bullshit myself recently. Got a surprise visit from the RM and then my boss confronts me about my performance issues which had never been brought up to me to correct. All of the supposed issues were regular as fuck, and some happened over a year ago, corrected, not a big deal. I got pissed, this guy is so hard to work with and I have covered for his ass so much that I was in shock, like utter disbelief. I would bend over backwards to help make shit go smooth. Not to mention I have worked twice as hard to the point of danger and don't complain about how much the job sucks all day like he does because I actually want to be there and love it.
The big boss felt something was off and asked if just me and him could take a walk. I laid it out and just said everything he said is bullshit. I just laid it out clear, had proof for plenty of it and the RM was like, you aren't the first person to have an issue with him, but you are the first person willing to stand up to it, and that's what I need you to keep doing, because there have been issues with this dude for a while. He even apologized, followed up, visited me at home to talk (I have housing provided).
It might sound like overkill but there was talk about doubts for my future in there. And we work just the two of us so upper management has no idea what's actually going on here. They come up and visit a couple times a year. My RM is super cool and I spoke to him like I would any of my friends. I said that guys is a fucking asshole for that, I can work with him, but I have lost all trust and respect for him. And the RM totally understood. So this whole thing originally was about me and even HR was given a heads up in case, I don't know they fired me or something, but now all the focus is on the rat, and rightly so. You don't ask someone to watch your dogs for you and all these other dumb personal favors and then go tell that persons boss that you are unreliable and shitty. Why trust me with your fucking dogs if that's how I roll?

Some fools might remember my old job, I had the unions coming who then dropped the ball, covid happened, then I was able to quit for this job. But after I left I heard they made a bunch of changes which coincidentally had to do with what I said when I still worked there and reiterated in my exit interview sheet. They got rid of the lady I kind of went to war with, at least moved her elsewhere. I do not like doing that shit at all, it draws attention to you and I am very much someone who tries to avoid conflict, and never wants to be thought of as a complainer. But if someone is fucking with me or making up shit that could put my career at risk I don't give a fuck, that's too much and I get super motivated to make it twice as bad for them.

WHEW, sorry, that shit really fucked me up the last 2 months, but its better now.

Will the fart spray adventure go on when you come back?

How does it feel knowing the maintenance guys will have all that trouble trying to find the source of it?

Are you afraid of being caught?

I buy post it notes (there is a special kind I have to find) and fold them up, roll them up, and generally fuck around with them. I have one in my hand 70% of the day at least and always keep some in my pocket. It calms me down. Been doing it for 20 years probably

aiight so i have had to get creative

i think my coworker caught on and has been closing his door.

he goes to the bathroom frequently and its a one person stall (not many people in the building)

so i have been spraying the handles of the sink and the door knob, i can then hear him repeatedly spraying his hands with sanitizer and rubbing them to remove the smell

he knows its a stinky liquid but doesnt know who or what is causing it

need more harmless pranks

I don't like going through the front door of a home. It's from a habit I formed after years of squatting. It feels too formal, like too much of a statement. If there's a back or side entrance I'll always take it.

I sit in the back of any room or bus or whatever so that I can keep everything in front of me. If someone is behind me I'll try to angle myself so I can see them in my periphery. If I'm driving I'll back into a spot against a wall if possible. I did it before I was homeless but it definitely became something I focused on a lot more at that point.

This is a skate habit, but I've been told it's pretty strange. I much prefer to skate with something in my hand. Phone, skate tool, bookbag strap, cigarette, it doesn't really matter what it is there just has to be something there. At some point that became my norm and now I definitely notice if there's nothing there.

I had a period where I would often get electrocuted due to static charge when I’d grab door handles, my stove or anything else, so now when I feel I’ve been dragging my feet too much over the floor, I’ll lightly tap the object I’m grabbing to discharge before handling my business..
