Title: What is it like to work in skateboard manufacturing?
Post by: sysiphusskate on June 13, 2022, 12:27:06 PM
Be it boards, trucks, wheels or nuts.

I'm a 24 yearold following the college route (took some time off), and I'm sort of trying to find out, what it is that I want.

I've always found decks beautiful. Cringy way to put it but thats how i felt idc.

So what's it like? Did working with skateboards make you eventually hate skateboards?

You should checkout where parts are being manufactured, the skillsets of employees (they might not even need traditional college), and try and figure out how exactly people get in on those jobs.

Just be aware of the "seeing how the sausage is made" effect.

Graphic design/fashion might be good too. You could design boards n clothes.

Best of luck with your career. Cheers!

NHS and DLX will post up back-office production roles on their Insta, like production planner or graphic designer type jobs. Could be worth checking out for an internship.

I think there's a reason they use prison labour. Way back in the skateboard com.au days I think the coretech guy told of how they got arthritis in their hands from shaping wheels. No doubt all aspects of skateboard production have you breathing in some toxic shit.
