i had one back in middle school, and now i’m 26. should i regret not having a subscription the last 5 years?

It’s like, $20 for the entire year, absolutely worth it if you like photography. It’s a bit less hellride without Phelps at the helm and I ain’t mad about it.

Ditto. Worth it for the photos alone and every now and then there is a good interview. Also, since they've hit their 40-year and 500-issues milestones they've been publishing lots of older & unseen photos.

When i was 12 I went to Barnes n Noble and grabbed every skate mag off the shelf including one called Daily Bread that I didn’t realize was an aggressive inline skate mag until I got home. They call us “wood-riders” and all the submitted letters were from kids who were bummed that all their friends were quitting inlining to ride wood.

Whenever I have a skate friend whose birthday is coming up I buy them a year's subscription to Thrasher.
$17 bucks for the 12 issues and a free t-shirt. The gift that keeps on giving! Gotta support print media!

After one of you posted the upcoming King Louie cover, signed up for a subscription. Oddly, my first issue won’t arrive till September so will have to buy the Louie August issue. Don’t mind at all. Should have been subscribing all these years. Not gonna lie, excited for the shirt. And the monthly mag something to look forward to during our every day routines

It's such a pain in the ass to subscribe. It takes forever for your first issue to arrive, and they never remind you when your sub expires. I missed an issue with some homies in it and I got kinda annoyed by the process.

I finally bought an gaff so will subscribe, later this week. Local tabac (I'm losing my English lol, smoke shop honestly forget the word, store that sells newspapers and cigarettes) has Thrasher from time to time but is like three months behind North America.

I find it worth it. You get to see content that isn't published online yet such as videos announcements, ads for upcoming products, and more. They don't put in stickers in every mag though, just only once in a while.
Come to think of it, how come there isn't a Thrasher mag discussion thread, be it one or monthly?

That mag wasn't really that interesting though. It's basically a brochure for companies to be like "by our shit". There was a cool photo of Nick Matthews doing an Ollie though. Every once in a while there will be some interesting interviews but it's hard to relate to most skaters as an adult. Also its just genuinely not worth getting invested in them either, i got money i need to stack.

idk man, the “people i’ve known” sections are always so good. and the one article where it was forrest saying what he’d do if he ran the country or skate industry (can’t remember which one exactly) is gold

My partner got me a subscription for my birthday this year. Havent had one in a while. I usually wait for interviews to get posted online but thrasher site is dogawful to use. Print is nice

unsubbed because:
-phelps died, and I miss his content
-international is 75bucks steep
-lot of articles end up being on the site
-they have money from gear, dont feel the need to support them with subscription (although I might be very wrong here)
all in all, I still buy a particular issue if its special, like the 500th one.
Also I like shit like trash talk and quotes at the end of every issue, so I would definitely keep my subscription if it was 20$. Counting also the free shirt its definitely a good value

i have it, but this is my last year. i dont care about any of these new skaters anymore. i opened the last issue and realized i didnt know who tf a lot of these people were so i think that's when i realized it was it for me.
i still fw skate jawn and will continue to subscribe. literally only bc theyre the only mag with limosine ads

I have soooo many of those white tshirts. Most of the time I don't even open them. One year they sent me a gray one and I wore holes in it. I got a small for my wife once and it was black! The last one sent was white but the logo is purple.
I might go through a mag once and only read what I feel like and have no guilt. When I was in middle school I would read every article/caption/legal and ad cover to cover (big brother was always the most entertaining). At one point I had subs to Transworld, thrasher, slap, skateboarder, and the skateboard mag at the same time. Pre cellphone pooping material.
$17 no biggie. I currently have 4 sitting on the foyer table that I need to crack open.
In my shed I have 3 large tubs of old skate magazines/zines/catalogues. My wife thinks it's stupid. Maybe one day my kids will be into them, but I probably wouldn't let them see the big brothers. I'll arrange for them to be periodically sent to my old folks home and I will be stoked in my dementia.

Got a LC sub a few years ago and got the shirt and first mag but then kept getting over looked on the next 3 until I emailed them. Then they skipped me on the last 2 so I emailed multiple times and got ghosted. I like Rob and the mag but Christ! I paid for the mags and only got 4 out of 6. I finally gave up. I’ll give Confusion my $ from now on.

I used to, but I have a hard time justifying a monthly 100+ page magazine that I will probably skim through and throw it away. It's not about the money, it's about justifying the wastefulness of print media.
If there's a blurb or a pic from one of my buddies I'll usually try to get a copy though.

I got a subscription on a whim a few years ago, and I think it's great. It's cheap, I get a shirt, and most importantly I get something interesting but ephemeral to read which isn't the giant monitor I sit in front of all day or the phone I use to distract me from that.

I do. It's mostly just for the Anti-Hero ads, but even those have even become much more tame and predictable over the years. There is occasionally some good stuff in it, but there are only so many two-page ads featuring rails/big gap that I can see without falling asleep.

I had the subscription this year but the international shipping is terrible, I always go 3 months behind so probably I will not renew. I got the april issue last week...

The price is pretty good too for international, about 6 euros per issue (it's 10,40€ in stores) and a free t-shirt.
Covid and rising costs for shipping have definitely had an effect thought, as before the newest issue arrived at about the same time as in US, like now the newest mag is August 2022, but I'm still waiting for the June issue...
But then again it's not faster to pick up the mag at the store either and most skateshops only carry the gear, not the mags.

What country are you living in? It the local tabac here in France, Thrasher is 8 euro but is always like two months behind.

I haven't had a subscription since... 1999? Although I kept buying Thrasher until probably 2007. Randomly buy a mag if it has old G's in it, but that is all.
I will say though... free t-shirt and a year of mags is a good deal

I subscribe every year. It's fun to get a physical piece of skateboarding media in the mail every month. I won't pretend it's any sort of brain busting literature but it's skateboarding and it's nice to read about it.

Had one about 10 years ago, now i have one again ever since i got my own place. price is a bit expensive for international but it's fine. sometimes it takes a while, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes i dont get anything at all, but it's fine since i dont really read them anyway.
only gripe i have is that the international subscription renewal doesn't offer a free shirt which is rather odd.
it's nice though, makes me feel young

I've got one. I love getting a new mag in the mail. Although I'll admit, that since Instagram came along, it takes me a few days to a week to get through the whole mag. (I've only had an insta for a couple years) Before that I'd read most of it the first day sometimes.
Over the years I've had subscriptions to most of them. Thrasher, TWS, Slap & Big Brother all getting delivered monthly when I was a teenager. When you grow up somewhere like the Midwest like I did, magazines were a connection to the culture of skating just as much as the tricks. But the internet seems to take care of that just fine nowadays.

I don't know how good or bad Thrashers Instagram page is... However I feel like the issue with me reading the shampoo bottles these days is that I would want to grab my phone to look up how fucked up all the chemicals in it are... Defeating the point of not being on my phone.
However, everytime I am on Slap I am apparently choosing this over Thrashers IG feed, for what it's worth.

I do since the price is great since I'm in the states. I give them to my nephew to try to get him stoked on skating. I check out the cover, flip to the end to read the sentences from fried dudes for a chuckle, and most often dont read any of it unless it is someone I am interested in. Being an adult kind of sucks, it is nice to check the mail and receive one thing that isn't a bill.
If it really is 75 bucks for international folks, I wouldn't.

I still subscribe to Thrasher, ever since I was a kid I have been amazed by skate photography and being a programer I love anything that does not involve looking at a screen outside of work. Usually when a new issue comes out, I grab a coffee and hang out a cafe and take in the skating. It is a nostalgic experience minus the coffee lol

That still a super good deal. Last issue I bought was the one with Tyshawn kickflipping the subway tracks and it cost me 11 euros iirc.

I just renewed after I missed a couple of months. Need to go to the shop and see what they have in the stack, try to catch up.
I have a bookcase in my garage with all of my mags from like the last 10 years or so. My own look back library. I wish I had the Slap and Transworld mags from when I was a kid. I subbed to Slap from like 95-04. I wish I had those Transworld Stance issues, so I could finally figure out if it's better to have a loud exhaust or subwoofers in my civic.

I buy a issue every now and then but I never had the year subscription. Being from Japan I have no idea how to do it and my English is not good enough for understanding the whole text. But having born in the 80s, having a real magazine on your hands feels really good. The same with photography books or zines.

In my last subscription they only sent me 9 mags instead of 12 it wasn't hard to not renew.

I said something similar here when this thread first showed up. It's great to get a piece of print media at my door once-per-month. It's an excellent excuse to do something other than look at your phone on the toilet.
My biggest complaint is that the cover gets "spoiled" like three and a half weeks before the issue arrives. Maybe I'm nostalgic for being a kid, when the mag was the only skate media you'd encounter all month, but it feels kind disrespectful to the people who literally pay for access to Thrasher aren't the first ones to see the cover.

It’s worth it. Better than scrolling, there’s an end. Shelf it and come back a year later, it’s a time capsule.
Take the the free shirt and give it to your mom.
My only criticism is the cheap ass stickers they put in there. Rather none or at least one quality stick that can go on a deck.

nowadays it's not uncommon to see a clip and totally forget about it, so it's actually kind rad seeing it again in a tour story or even vice versa ie. the louie cover.
it's not everyone's cup of tea but I actually like a lot of the thrasher content now, especially because I'm of the school that it used to suck, i.e. skateboarder, TWS, Slap was way better....
