Thanks for the recommendation. At first I was interested but the trailer was just too american for me.
Glad to hear that it's still worth a watch

I just watched the trailer after watching and will say that Netflix did a really bad job with the trailer compared to the film as a whole.
It's definitely worth watching and I really enjoyed it. I had no idea their upbringing was so difficult and I'm glad they have a place to share their story.
-
It could barely hold my attention at first, I thought the first 20 mins or so were all over the place with the interviews (Neen Williams, eh ok?) and how they just jumped straight into the Olympic stuff, but then it became super engaging. Glad I watched it and learnt a thing or two. His mother is amazing.

Great documentary, not just for skateboarding but for identity, gender, inclusivity and doing things for what you want not for what others expect from you.
The part where you could see how shit Leo felt when barraged with constant wrong name/"female"/"woman" in the contests/olympics/school/etc. hit really deep.
Highly recommended watch.

No, she was in a car crash and got a traumatic brain injury, sadly she wakes up thinking everyday is the same day.

Watched this with my wife last night, we both loved it, what a story. Wishing him the all the best in a career of street skating - definitely looks good on a board.

I respect the skate nerdetry

It’s fucking crazy that this was filmed if from 2019. The whole mood feels different now. This was a really great personal story. It didn’t feel like some fluff peace like most skateboarding docs feel.
Non of that “Everything was so rad” junk.
-
I guess drew barrymore was one of the executive producers

One of the production company execs probably saw the doc at outfest film festival and bought it or partnered with it to get it distribution (which Mikey Alfred’s movie never had) which is how it’s prominently placed/on Netflix
-
this was very well done - as someone mentioned, this could have easily turned into a fluff piece but it wasn’t in the slightest. thankful there’s a genuinely well done piece covering such a heavy topic, especially for those struggling internally.

Great watch, now if Glue would make 8.75 or bigger board I'd kick down some money.
-
good quick watch at an hour and 12 minutes
-
I watched it, I enjoyed it. Everyone has a different path, it was interesting to hear Leo's.

the anti-capitalism comment coming from a contest skater that makes a living from Nike was weird, but it is cool that they are seemingly getting to the point of being comfortable and accepted

lol wiping coffee off my screen. thanks for the laugh.

It was pretty heartfelt, and really humanising in the way that it dealt with gender identity intersecting with the Olympics cause the focus around that has got really ugly lately. Shout out to Reda doing this and the BA doco, legit stuff.

I told my wife i wanted to watch this. Her reply was “was this put out by transworld” and then immediately apologized for such a tasteless joke.
Totally out of character for her and i thought it was hilarious.

when BA did the fs blunt I told my girl "that's hubba, we've been there". her reply was "oh yeah, they used to hide there to smoke crack, that's where the name comes from". I am pretty, pretty proud.

bumping this because i finally got around to watching. really great documentary and i’m super stoked for Leo. looking forward to more street footage! his style is so fire

Bumping cause I watched this last night. Pretty crazy to realize how much being a female is mentioned to females, his life kinda revolved around people acknowledging his gender in relation to his job. Something you don’t really think about as a male in a male dominated thing like skating.
It’s also crazy the relationship stuff, cause he has a girlfriend and they both acknowledge that after surgery she might not be into Leo, I assume because she’s a lesbian who is attracted to women. Never thought about it.
Def recommend seeing it if you missed it like I had.
