For whatever little it’s worth, I’ve been party to two different conversations from trans and femme skaters talking about their difficulty in dealing with Leo Baker.

I have no idea about any of that. I doubt Nike wants anything to do with selling decks for like a $5 margin, though. This was just skaters kvetching about one of their own who they had difficult getting along with, which makes me think that maybe people don’t want to be a part of Glue.

Part of me is disappointed Cher didnt appear in Ruining Skateboarding or Wick and Spit, and part of me is curious what happened with Leo and Stephen to break things off after such a promising start, but just happy Cher and There is a thing now. Need some new footy and the dimensions of that shaped board asap!

No - for the millionth time, Nike has no interest in hardgoods, but they pay their riders well enough that they can start brands of their own if they want.

That’s my guess too. I think she’s in like 3 bands rn. When leo was telling the story of glue starting on the mess podcast interview I believe Cher wasn’t mentioned as helping out, or mentioned at all, with the chaos of having an apartment full of boards and having to mail them out etc.
Part of chers appeal is she’s a badass punk rocker. Idk. In my view I’m down to turn punk musicians pro even if they don’t skate lol. But cher shreds and I’m stoked to see more from her.

Twompsax isn't actually horrible. It's pretty bad but not as bad as I thought. A lot of it is actually really good at times. There's this horrible this bike is a pipe bomb hickey worship sound. It's horrible. Onion flavored rings and sexy had some good songs. Some of this like even Nar and bananas sound at times. Laundromat punk. Early lookout comps definitely actually some good songs. As long as she's skating maintaining heelfips down 8 stairs. I can't keep up song off the demo tape is pretty good. There's a ton of people at those shows. I guess it's not a gimmick if people buy your boards and don't expect you to go hard. Nobody bought Rasa Libre boards cause they just sat around and smoked pot all day.

Do you mean gimmick or brand? Rasa Libre’s brand might’ve been weed, but Cher’s is being herself. She goes plenty hard, I think they were ripping on you because hating on a skater like Cher is kinda lame. Cher’s doing plenty for skating just by existing…
You're right her brand. I haven't looked her up in a few years. Her music is evolved quite a bit. Yeah I don't give a fuck as long as you're skating and the brands making money. But I can see why she got kicked off glue if she's putting more time in other projects. DLX is a better fit for sure. Seems like the glue doesn't stick very well over there. There are a shit ton of people at these twompsax shows.

also i remember watching that vid, it was really good. totally forgot about it tho cause i'm senile as fuck. yeah kinda sounded like glue had problems still, but glad it's alright then.

All good! I think the only two people who quit are Cher, who, in their short career, already quit CONS, working at Supreme and now Glue, and Sully Cormier who was hit up by Andrew Reynolds a day after getting on Glue to get on Baker.

cher posted something on instagram a few days ago about getting back on board after injury. if i remember correctly, it was a knee injury, so taking like 9 months off to heal makes total sense. she just has a wide swath of interests, so it probably just looks like she’s prioritizing music bc she isn’t just endlessly posting about rehabbing the injury

This is probably it. When vans did that colorway she couldn’t even get a few new clips and it was all clips from that supreme video. Good for her but someone should remind her to be a skateboarder you have to actually skate occasionally.

Yeah I think this is just a misunderstanding! I was just referring to There as a brand/team.
In other news, Cher's new board dropped on There's website with Chandler's new pro model too. There's only four new decks in total but they all have the sickest graphics. Definitely would cop one if my current There deck wears out anytime soon.

Someone doesn't have to be the outright "best" (whatever that means) skater to be sponsored and promoted. They're basically a way to represent and market a brand. Otherwise the most lucrative sponsorships would just go to the exact placings of every competition.

i like the graphics on glue way better, and cher was a great fit for their image in the earlier days, but i gotta assume the DLX check is a safer bet.
poor Leo is just stuck out on the east coast now trying to keep glue going without one of the original team members that made them seem cool =(

On one hand understanding and exposure on the other selling out to corporations and assimilating to consumer culture which is largely the means of navigating this world so can we really blame him. The nature of being pro is to sell products.
