When I was younger I thought the world industries team he was a part of was so sick (granted at the time all I knew about world was flame boy/wet Willy era), and this promo around that time was my all time fav.
Always a fan of that dude! Rest easy, Kurtis!

Damn. Local legend, I heard a lot about this dude growing up. Rest In Peace

Aside from horrendous sponsor choices at the end of his career, how come this dude never really blew up? He was early with the tats and skated tv contests, but didn’t have one “legit” sponsor m. Always figured he must have been a kook or something but apperently he was the homie. So what’s his story.
Rest In Peace regardless

he kinda did at his world times but then he never got hooked up properly, his last "relevant" times were around the infamous Famous stars and straps video from 2010... (was ever released?)
I remember being stoked on him before but then he went into that weird fit of tight/baggy jeans + bigtall shirt that makes everyone look like shit no matter the skills. He was damn good but faded in between the rest of the dudes of the time.
RIP dude, you killed it

Forgot who told the story, but somebody on Real was trying to get him on, he went on a tour with everybody and apparently just didn't fit. I kind of liked him being a weird fringe industry guy that ripped. Rest in peace.

Rip ❤️
-
Wasn't he a pal? Or maybe someone just joked about being him a long time ago.
RIP.

I think it was Darell. Him, Scott Kane, and Kurtis were always skating together at my local growing up. Always was super nice to everyone. I can see why so many are saying the same thing in the comments. RIP Kurtis.

r.i.p.
yeah he didn't have the coolest sponsors but he probably made a bag off skateboarding for a while, famous stars and straps and lexani rims
-
This is sad to hear. I still remember him as one of the ams on Monkey Stix back in the day.
RIP
-
Had a sequence of a shove it flip down the Santa Monica triple set in thrasher. That really stood out to me. RIP

I remember him in that Berry Atmosphere video with Romar and Scott Kane.

Saw there's a GoFundme setup for him to give him a proper burial and it looks to be somewhat time sensitive. I do know he's got children as well.

Good guy, met him when he was an up and coming kid in LBC and was getting hooked up by Girl. RIP

Around 2000ish, when I was 16 or so, I half ass made friends with the owner of the Warp skatepark in northern Illinois. He’d let me and the homies show up at close on the weekends and skate for free after hours, as well as drink and smoke weed in the park.
For some reason he had flown Kurtis out to stay with him and skate the park. He was relatively unknown at the time. The owner wanted us to show Kurtis a good time,ie smoke him out at the park. He was super chill and humble and rifling off tricks down the 7(?) stair and hubba. After a couple hours he was running out of tricks and asked me what to try. I suggested an inward heel since he hadn’t done one. He responded “nah, that trick is fuckin ugly.”
-
Saw him do the front blunt bs flip out down a handrail in a billabong ad and it blew my fucking mind. Rest in peace to the dude.

RIP

RIP to the homie.

RIP

In the very early 2000's I went to Kurtis's house to meet up and go shoot some photos. I didn't really know him but he was Grant Patterson's homie so I was down to roll. His mom met me at the door and invited me in. Within minutes of being there he got in a huge fight with her and dipped out of the house slamming the door behind him and leaving me sitting on the couch. I stayed for about twenty minutes until it was just too awkward and then went home.
He was a super nice kid and I'm sad to hear of his passing.

They're holding a celebration of life at eldo skatepark on 9/11 @ 10am

Always felt like Kurtis was slightly ahead of the curve of the pros of the time, never fully getting the shine he deserved based on his incredible skill level. To this day, I don't think I've seen another varial flip nosegrind 180 out (not that maybe it should be done), but nonetheless an insane trick, especially for the early 2000's. He took the blunt kickflip out on handrails to new heights, which in the context of the period, the only other person putting that down was Reynolds and a testament to where he was at that time.
RIP to another one, I really hate getting older sometimes...
-
RIP. He was definitely ahead of the curve, feel like if he had been 5 years earlier or later he would’ve blown up if that makes sense. Sounds like he was well liked in the LBC community as well. Hope his family gets through this.
-
RIP, condolences to his family and friends.
-
Although his sponsor choices were not the best I kinda liked the dude.
RIP Kurtis Colamonico

Was going through old photos and found this pic I took of Kurtis at Stoner Park a few years back. Just thought I would share. A lil blurry but whatevs.

I didn't even know he was sick.

Crazy how a super talented seemingly nice guy can just be shit on by the industry. Always a bummer to see a good one go.
