Post by: tonyhawksmanywives on September 21, 2022, 10:46:22 AM
For all my HVX-200 users what is your method for unloading the clips onto your computer? I never learned what the official way of transferring the clips while not having the files separated by audio and visual. i have always plugged in my camera to my PC opened the files on premiere pro exported them to my computer and then if i want to send it to my phone i put it in a google drive and download it from their. Anyone have any better methods?

So it sounds like you already have the P2 drivers but here are the links just in case––

Mac: https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/content/download/EN/ep2main/macp2driver_e.htm (https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/content/download/EN/ep2main/macp2driver_e.htm)
Windows: https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/content/download/EN/ep2main/pcdriver_e.htm (https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/content/download/EN/ep2main/pcdriver_e.htm)

Follow this procedure to connect to your computer via USB, then transfer the full contents of each card into its own folder on your hard drive. I usually name the card folders with the date in sequential order ("220921a", "220921b" etc):

To save space I recommend reviewing & deleting clips on the camera before making a transfer. You can also use the P2 viewer software to delete clips once they're on the hard drive but it's a pretty clunky interface:
https://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/software/p2viewerplus/ (https://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/software/p2viewerplus/)

When the transfer is done, just drag the folders with the P2 card contents into your Premiere project, and your clips will be in the "VIDEO" subfolders with multi-channel sound attached.

I typically use the "Log and Transfer" function in FCP7, but I'm not sure if everyone else is on FCP7.  You can set in and out points for logging each clip and name the clips in the program, which is convenient.

I also will typically record a second clip and have my hand marking the shot when I press record, this way you have a hand as the thumbnail and a make directly before it once you capture on a computer.  I know there is also the shot mark and label functions on the camera, but typically these were not shown once you bring it into software or in the finder.
