Digging this genre. Of low voice and loud beats. I fucks with
-
weird... this popped up in recommended the other day. I'll definitely have a listen.

Personally not really a fan of the modern age Phonk, but the stuff that got made around 2010-2015 when SpaceGhostPurrp started the whole Memphis-revival wave is sick. Blackland Radio 66.6 is a good place to start with his stuff, but all the old Raider Klan tapes deserve a spin tbh.

Also can't forget Memphis Rap, where the style got it's origins from. Guys like Tommy Wright III, old 3 6 Mafia and DJ Zirk were doing this type of music in the 90s.

If anyone would like any recommendations in either style, I could go on for days.

My favorite one right now, by eternal clique

Do I just get a lap top and buy one of these sound kits
https://www.traplifesounds.net/
Then boom dope vids and remixes otw
How do I go about this?
-
Yeah, just get an 808 drum sample kit, a DAW you like and start making beats.

I'm a huge DJ Smokey fan, was going to post him because he was a true innovator of the genre he started around 2014 w the raider klan wave and I first heard him on that chris Travis - Stay True track off of Codiene and Pizza mixtape
Same day I got those 2 15s! (before the amp caught fire from a gnarly pothole)
but I'm going to go with some even more lofi recommendations
Mack 187 - Pass Patrol is an amazing album, great for subwoofers

One of my favorites is Traphouse of horrors 3

I like his recent quarantine tape with Soudiere (who kinda carried the torch after DJ Smokey took a hiatus to get clean)

Nothing better than some Memphis OG Classics^^
I'm also not really into this new "Phonk" stuff, i'm down with all the 90'-2000 Memphis Rap shit.
But i found this lately and i kinda like it.
The OG sample is from Orange Juice Click..

I'm not that big of a fan of the 'drift' phonk stuff (LXST CXNTURY being the exception) but here is some phonk that I mess with:

I've been hooked on WAVY GENISIS' output lately. His stuff is pretty well rounded when it comes to genres.

I used DJ Akoza in a video once and sent him the video link on Sound Cloud and he wrote back to me and was super hyped. He sent me some unreleased tracks to use after and seemed like the homie.

thats badass! I wonder if he is a houston cat as well

Loud Lord prob not considered phonk although adjacent, I always liked his inverted bass waves
I would recommend his Kush Crazy series for high energy beats and his the Loudfather as well.
These are more trap instrumentals but figured they were close enough

Now here is Dom or Domsta
HE has some really cool flips on old samples that have been used as well. That and parts of other classic sampled songs w a lo-fi feel to it. A good mix of Southern/West Coast G-Funk
